[Arches] Arches Community Forum launch scheduled for June 1st

2021-05-13 Thread Lindsey Gant

Hi everyone!

We were so excited to see so many of you on today's community call. It's
also great to see that many of you are signing up to our new forum, which
is found here: https://community.archesproject.org

If you were unable to attend today's meeting, we will have a recording
available by early next week.

Please note that we will officially launch this new forum on June 1st,
2021. At that point, we will freeze this Google Group and all new posts
should be directed to the Arches Community Forum
hosted by Discourse. If you need
help registering, please review our Getting Started page

here.

We would love for you all to head over to our new forum and introduce
yourself to the rest of us in the Arches Community. You can find the
introductions thread here
.

We thought it would also be fun for everyone to share some of the heritage
sites or places you would like to visit once we are out of lock down. You
can join in on that conversation here

.
Let's give a shout-out to Ed Lee who kick-started the amazing Signing In
thread

we've had here on the Google Groups forum since 2013! Ed, we are happy you
continue to be a member of the Arches Community and we welcome you to
sign-in on our newest introductions thread
, as well!

[Arches] Re: Touchscreen enabling to click points on Map?

2021-05-05 Thread Lindsey Gant

Hi Jude,

At the moment, this feature is not in the works. However if this is an
enhancement you would like to see in the future, you are welcome to log a
ticket on GitHub with an 'Enhancement' label
 so
it can be something we can review in the future for the development roadmap.

That said, for this and any other features currently not on our roadmap, we
welcome additional development of the Arches core code for those able to
find outside funding for that work. We only request that any enhancements
or modifications be shared back with the community, per the Arches Open
Source Community Guidelines .

As a note, a touchscreen map is a feature available through the current
version of Arches Collector as well as the version soon to be released.
However, that mobile application is more for data collection rather than
interacting with the data such as through the browser-based web application.

Thanks!

[Arches] Re: v5.1 Manage Permissions - how to hide resource from predictive hit list?

2021-04-08 Thread Lindsey Gant
Hi Jude,

Thanks for your message! Would you mind offering a bit of clarification for
the problem you are having? As I understand it, you would like there to be
an indication that resources exist to the public user even though that
resource is hidden, is that correct?

With your clarification, I can help guide someone to assist.

Thanks!

Hi Hien,

My apologies, it looks like I misread the documentation. It is recommended
that your macOS version is 3.6.1 when installing GDAL, as the later version
has caused trouble. If you are on that version of macOS, I can see if I can
find someone in our community to help troubleshoot your issue.

[Arches] Re: Report - text align right

2020-12-09 Thread Lindsey Gant

Hi Elishai,

Thank you for your message and apologies for the delay in response.

Generally speaking, reports can be customized via programming and perhaps
others may have some input on how to change the orientation of the text in
reports, but your question probably speaks more to the need for more
integrated internationalization of the Arches interface to allow for
enhanced handling of multilingual interfaces, including those that feature
right to left languages. The Arches v5.1 code allows for text
translations, but there are several members of our community who are in
conversation about more integrated and enhanced internationalization of the
Arches interface and database, which could include support for what you are
seeking to do with your reports and more. We are currently looking for
funding contributions towards this important development work.

One organization you should keep an eye on is EAMENA (Endangered
Archaeology in the Middle East and North Africa). They have been working on
translations for their Arches v3 implementation (which is bilingual in both
English and Arabic), so they may have some helpful points of information
for you. EAMENA is also one of the contributors in our community that is
part of the discussion around more robust internationalization of Arches.
They are currently in the process of upgrading to Arches v5.

Here is a link to an article for more information about their process:
https://eamena.org/article/translating-eamenas-platform-arabic-challenges-and-solutions

We hope to have more information about these internationalization efforts
in the coming months. Otherwise, we would love to have your input on how
best Arches can suit these needs, and as always, welcome contribution to
these efforts.

[Arches] Re: Need help with setting up arches on mac

2020-11-25 Thread Lindsey Gant
Hello Hien,

Welcome to the Arches Project Forum! We are happy to have you here and are
excited to see that you are beginning your own installation of Arches. If
you could take a moment to sign in on the forum
,
you can introduce yourself and share a bit about your interest in Arches.

As for your errors above, no need to worry about the settings_local errors
(first four lines) at the top. Those specific errors will be removed along
with the v5.1.1 update
 in
the future.

For your other errors, I would reactivate your virtualenv and make sure
that all your dependencies are installed
.

Can you confirm that your GDAL is at version 3.6.1? If so, you may want to
open your settings.py file and update the path to your GDAL library. Here
are additional instructions in the documentation

about setting up GDAL.

Feel free to update us on your progress and see if we can get some
additional help from the rest of the community if you continue to run into
these errors.

Best,

Lindsey

[Arches] Testing Windows 10 Development Installation

2019-12-18 Thread Lindsey Gant

Hi everyone,

I have compiled a list of steps that I took to successfully complete a
developer installation of Arches 4.4.3 locally on my Windows 10 laptop.
Please note that these are not the recommended steps for installation;
these are the troubleshooting steps that I took to test the documented
developer installation steps, without fully deploying an Arches instance.
If you are using Windows OS, it is generally recommended to deploy
utilizing a Linux system. That said, these steps may be of assistance to
someone troubleshooting their own local test installation. If you encounter
other installation errors, be sure to post them to the Arches forum for
assistance from the community.

For reference, the original developer installation documentation can be
found here.

[Arches] Re: Arches developer install Windows 10- Django / GDAL error (updated)

2019-11-27 Thread Lindsey Gant
Hi Andy- Thanks for the ideas. My sys variables and PATH are up to date and
I tried reinstalling requirements.txt and requirements_dev.txt but it only
indicated that the requirements were already satisfied.

Just to note- I went home last night and attempted the install on my
personal PC and ran into the same errors.

Thanks!

[Arches] Re: Arches developer install Windows 10- Django / GDAL error (updated)

2019-11-26 Thread Lindsey Gant
I fixed the above error by adding "gdal204' to the list of lib_path strings
and changing settings to settings_local (where I stored my
GDAL_LIBRARY_PATH.

I am now getting this error:

File "C:\Users\LGant\arches_clean\ENV\lib\site-packages\django\db\utils.py",
line 134, in load_backend
raise ImproperlyConfigured(error_msg)
django.core.exceptions.ImproperlyConfigured:
'django.contrib.gis.db.backends.postgis' isn't an available database
backend.
Try using 'django.db.backends.XXX', where XXX is one of:
'mysql', 'oracle', 'postgresql', 'sqlite3'
Error was: cannot import name _lazy_re_compile

[Arches] Arches developer install Windows 10- GDAL error

2019-11-25 Thread Lindsey Gant
Hi all,

I am having trouble with GDAL for my Arches installation on Windows 10. I
am experiencing similar results to a previous issue

 however,
I am not sure how to fix it.

I am at the part of the developer installation

where I am creating a new package. I get this error on the command line:

 File
"C:\Users\LGant\arches_clean\ENV\lib\site-packages\django\contrib\gis\gdal\libgdal.py"
, line 49, in
lgdal = CDLL(lib_path)
File "c:\python27\Lib\ctypes\__init__.py", line 362, in __init__
self._handle = _dlopen(self._name, mode)
WindowsError: [Error 126] The specified module could not be found

I confirmed that I downloaded and installed the 64 bit GDAL from this site
and set my settings_local.py to include
the valid path:

GDAL_LIBRARY_PATH = "c:/OSGeo4W64/bin/gdal204.dll"

I am on branch 4.4.2 and am using 64-bit Python 2.7.13. I have reinstalled
GDAL multiple times but am unable to bypass this error. Any assistance
would be appreciated!!

Thanks,

Lindsey

[Arches] Re: Signing in

2019-06-24 Thread Lindsey Gant
Hello everyone!

My name is Lindsey Gant and I am the newest member of the Arches Project
team at the GCI. As the Data Specialist for Arches, I plan to be actively
involved with the Open Source community and look forward to learning and
implementing Arches alongside those in the cultural heritage and
conservation science fields. I am especially excited to expand upon Arches
with the development of DISCO
<https://www.getty.edu/conservation/our_projects/science/integrating_data/>
in the coming years. As a member of the GCI, I am happy to say I have a
beautiful scenic view outside my window at the Getty in Los Angeles, while
surrounded by many fascinating people devoted to the protection and
management of cultural resources.
