There are still the usual T, H, and B tables for 993, but NONE defined for

Both tables have the same nextId - 59161.

Which one do I set to 10 if I want to create test tickets in the

All:

We've had multiple customers wanting this same customization over past few
years, including the needs attention flag. I'd recommend against delaying
bug fixes to add these features :), but they should be high on the to-be-added
list. A form with records containing stop words would be nice also, so that
out-of-office replies aren't processed. And, if an end user sends an email to
a closed ticket, then a canned reply should be sent back to the sender. Both
these features should be enable-able or disable-able.

Not only would that be great as OOTB but I think the incident needs to be
flagged in some way as Needing Action as a result of an incoming work info
update.
I think this is needed as well for those Heads down service desk support

I'll second that. I've done this at 3 other places so far. It is trickier
than you might think, though. As I real we had to create the work info and then
go back and read the attachments from the Email attachments form.

Hi Phil,

Well, you can also add fields that are overlay, and in that case workflow
can be attached. This means that a lot can be attached to the overlay
schemaId.

My guess is that you get a copy of everything as soon as you create an
overlay form+view.

I have exported an overlay form, and you get two versions of the form. The
base, and a complete overlay copy with added fields etc.

They have probably put the complete copy of the form+view in the
application repository in the database. Everything except the T-, H, and
B-tables who are still kept together as one.

Handling return text from a web service

2011-04-22 Thread Angus Comber
Hello

I have created an active link on a regular form which pushes fields to a
display only form when a button is clicked.

A filter on submit on the display only form then calls a web service.

This is all working fine. I have mapped the responses from calling the web
service to fields in the display only form. But of course the user who clicked
the button to invoke the action cannot 'see' any response from the web service.
How would I take the response text posted into a field in the display only
form back up to a field in the 'calling' form?

Or is there another way to do this?

2011-04-22 Thread Murnane, Phil
Misi:

I just checked an export of some custom workflow, and even workflow attached to
custom fields on an overlay form+view reference the form name without the __o.

If we think of the features delivered by ARS as a stack, with higher-level
features dependent on lower-level features (similar to the OSI model), then I'm
guessing that the overlay feature was inserted fairly low in the stack, and
features above it are mostly unaware of its existence -- all they see is the
same old presentation/surface they would have seen in 7.6.03. This is just a
guess on my part, though.

FWIW,

If you are on ARS v7.1 or later I would use the Service action (of the Active
Link) instead of pushing to a Display Only form. The Service action allows you
to map both the inbound and outbound fields just like you do for window open of
a popup form.

You then change your filter type from submit to service.

Instead of having your AL do a Push, have it perform a Service action
(assuming you are on the proper version)..map the input in the same way you
mapped the push, but on the output, map the fields being set by the web
service to fields on the form with the button being pushed.this will get you
the response you are looking for.

7.6.04 - Load balancing

2011-04-22 Thread Chowdhury, Tauf
Has anyone set up Remedy 7.6.04 as a server group with a hardware load
balancer in between the mid tier and AR servers?

Has that gone well?

We set the enable lifespan option on the mid tiers and had the load
balancer clear the persistency flag and are seeing odd plugin errors.
Not sure if it's related. I have a ticket open with BMC but curious if
anyone experienced the issue.

Re: Handling return text from a web service

2011-04-22 Thread Chintan Shah

Why would you need a display only form? Wouldnt Set fields from Web-Service
on the actual form work for you?

You could use service action or see if this works

1. On regular form, create a GUID field and use Application-Generate-GUID to
generate GUID when form is opened for submission.
2. When you push to display only form, push the GUID with it.
3. Once data is returned from web-service on Display only form, Send it back to
parent form by doing push fields where 'GUID'=$GUID$.

I have not tested it but it should work although its not an efficient way to do
it.

Thanks
Chintan.

Re: ARS 7.6.04 Form Overlays - nextId increments

2011-04-22 Thread strauss
Agreed. The concept I keep questioning is which objects actually get changed
during an upgrade? The base form, obviously, but is the overlay changed as
well? My form overlays appear to retain the version information from their
creation - in my case 7.00.00 - but they also appear to have been modified
during the upgrade to 7.6.04. When I compare the CTM:People__o overlay created
by BPCU on the reference server (where it has not been upgraded to 7.6.04) to
the same overlay on the upgraded staging server, they are both still
BMCVer=7.00.00, but the one on the upgraded staging server has over a dozen
more new fields that were added in 7.6.04 (like Vendor Assignee Groups
(60900)), plus my four custom fields. I guess the overlay will always reflect
the version number from its original creation, but it is supposed to pick up
everything on the upgraded base form while retaining your customizations. In
this case, it also dropped at least one field from 7.00.00 - Locale (160) -
from both the base form and the overlay, when upgraded to 7.6.04.

I think I got confused about how this was _supposed_ to work since I had 6 new
Audit forms created by the 7.6.04 upgrade that were created as version 7.6.04,
but overlaid with 7.5.00 overlays (which I have since deleted). That had to be
an error.

I guess we'll have to see what really happens to overlay/overlaid object pairs
when 7.6.04.001 is applied.

Angus,

Instead of having your AL do a Push, have it perform a Service action
(assuming you are on the proper version)..map the input in the same way you
mapped the push, but on the output, map the fields being set by the web
service to fields on the form with the button being pushed.this will get you
the response you are looking for.

Define ‘odd plugin errors’ Tauf...

I have seen plugin errors with 7.6.03 that seem to be resolved in 7.6.04 that
are not related to load balancing but I suspect is related to the fact that
7.6.03 was not yet supporting 64 bit java at all points wherever Java was
required.. On 7.6.03 for eg, if you used 64 bit java wherever 64 bit is
supported and 32 wherever 64 bit was not (which is exactly what I had done) I
was unable to set the Server Ports and Queues using the plugin interface.
Changing values there would not result in any errors, not even in the plugin
logs when set to fine, but it just wouldn’t change the configuration. Close
that administration form and reopen it and those values would read the current
values (unchanged) from the config file, and your new values would not be seen.
Even from the timestamp on the ar.conf file it was clear that it was not even
touching the file..

Remedy support had recognized it as a bug.. It was resolved when I used 64 bit
java all round in 7.6.04 where areas where 64 bit java was not supported was
then supported.. Which is why I get that feeling it was because java versions
were mixed and matched in 7.6.03, it may have created that problem..

What is the nature of your problem?

2011-04-22 Thread Matt Reinfeldt
Folks,

I've had to migrate the RemedyUserGroups.com website to a new host, so I
took the opportunity to revamp the site a little bit... :-)

I've only gotten a few of the User Groups listed currently, but if there are
others out there who want more information about their groups posted, please
contact me and we'll get you all set up!

Additionally, I am 'feeling the waters' to see who'd be interested in
getting a MWRUG meeting together (see http://www.remedyusergroups.com !).
Please leave your thoughts/feedback on the site!

Thank you and have a great weekend!

Re: ARS 7.6.04 Form Overlays - nextId increments

2011-04-22 Thread strauss
Continuing the discussion... even though migrator reports that the fields in
the form overly were updated, the views were not. If you look at the same
CTM:People record (appadmin) on a 7.6.04 clean install server, versus the one
you upgraded with an overlay, the upgraded overlay does not display things like
the new Assignment tab, but instead shows the original fields from that tab in
their 7.00.00 locations on the General tab. The two new Knowledge Management
fields do not appear anywhere. The pure 7.6.04 version also sets a lot of the
fields to disabled/read only/grayed out/ or hidden that remain enabled/visible
on the 7.00.00 overlay.

This explains why one of the sites I was talking to on BMCDN was deleting the
BPCU-created form view overlays, creating new 7.6.04 view overlays, then adding
their customizations manually. This negates some of the value to be obtained
by fighting through the BPCU process. I've already had to do this with some
workflow as well, where the 7.6.04 version added a dozen fields to open and
close actions where I only had added one or two, and it was more efficient to
just delete and recreate the overlay in its 7.6.04 form and add my two fields.

Joe,

One example off odd behavior is in SRM, if I try to view anything that
contains a data viz field like the PDT or Process Tab on an open

Both of these fields have AL's that trigger which perform Run process
functions. Also, when I submit a service request, it's not creating the
incident. I ran filter/api/sql logging to no avail. I was getting an
error stating Unable to connect to Ar System Plugin Server when I tried
submitting an incident (after marking yes to the option in Rules that
creates request on submit). A filter (don't have the name right now)
like SRM USM... failed and it looked like it was doing a run process as
well.

It may not be related to load balancing at all and a plugin
configuration error but I am lost right now...

7.6.04 - Load balancing

2011-04-22 Thread John Baker
Hello,

I'm referring to the load balancing document and I think there may be some
confusion.

The document states the sticky bit isn't required for the LB between MIdtier
and AR System server, but I can not see (and forgive me for not fully reading
the document in detail) any reference to the LB in front of the Midtiers and
the sticky bit. I therefore conclude that the LB in front of the Midtiers needs
the sticky bit set because the Midtiers do not cluster.

Further to that, the Midtier web.xml file doesn't contain:

distributable /

Which as you can see in this page:

http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/cluster-howto.html

(Under clustering basics)

needs to be included for Tomcat (and other servlet engines) to distribute
sessions.

Joe,

One example off odd behavior is in SRM, if I try to view anything that contains
a data viz field like the PDT or Process Tab on an open request, it’s either a
blank screen or it says “error loading document” Both of these fields have AL’s
that trigger which perform Run process functions. Also, when I submit a service
request, it’s not creating the incident. I ran filter/api/sql logging to no
avail. I was getting an error stating Unable to connect to Ar System Plugin
Server when I tried submitting an incident (after marking yes to the option in
Rules that creates request on submit). A filter (don’t have the name right now)
like SRM USM… failed and it looked like it was doing a run process as well.

It may not be related to load balancing at all and a plugin configuration error
but I am lost right now…

Tauf,

I’m in the middle of setting this exact config up. Two load balancers, one in
front of the web, another between web and app. The only issues we are
experiencing are related to session timeout problems, which is server
clustering related…still working on that one.

If you are getting plugin errors, ensure that in your armonitor.cfg file you
are starting your java plugin server connecting to your individual node alias,
and in the ar.cfg file, ensure that all of your java plugins are connecting to
the same node based name…

If you are by chance using Tomcat for your clustering, I would be willing to
accept config tips/files to help smooth my road J

Has anyone set up Remedy 7.6.04 as a server group with a hardware load balancer
in between the mid tier and AR servers?

Has that gone well?

We set the “enable lifespan” option on the mid tiers and had the load balancer
clear the persistency flag and are seeing odd plugin errors. Not sure if it’s
related. I have a ticket open with BMC but curious if anyone experienced the
issue.

I've had to migrate the RemedyUserGroups.com website to a new host, so I took
the opportunity to revamp the site a little bit... :-)

I've only gotten a few of the User Groups listed currently, but if there are

contact me and we'll get you all set up!

Additionally, I am 'feeling the waters' to see who'd be interested in getting a

Re: 7.6.04 - Load balancing

2011-04-22 Thread LJ LongWing
John,
On page 19, bout half way down it states

Load balancing between the clients and web servers without setting a sticky
bit

If the web servers in your AR System were installed in a cluster (with
fail-over enabled), then setting the sticky bit on the load balancer between
the clients and web servers is not needed.

This tells me directly that I can turn the sticky bit off on my web load
balancer if I cluster my web server.

Am I reading that wrong?yes, I may need to add the distributable
attribute to the mid-tier web.xml, but that shows as 'ok' to me based on the
above statement from BMC, right?

Hello,

I'm referring to the load balancing document and I think there may be some
confusion.

The document states the sticky bit isn't required for the LB between MIdtier
and AR System server, but I can not see (and forgive me for not fully
reading the document in detail) any reference to the LB in front of the
Midtiers and the sticky bit. I therefore conclude that the LB in front of
the Midtiers needs the sticky bit set because the Midtiers do not cluster.

Further to that, the Midtier web.xml file doesn't contain:

distributable /

Which as you can see in this page:

http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/cluster-howto.html

(Under clustering basics)

needs to be included for Tomcat (and other servlet engines) to distribute
sessions.

Re: Service Action Type

2011-04-22 Thread LJ LongWing
Abdelaziz,

If you are familiar with standard OO Programming, you know about methods. A
method accepts x inputs, and provides y outputs. Think of the service
action in the same light. Build up a series of filters that do a function
you need done, have them fire on the 'Service' event. Then build an AL that
calls a service action and provides the necessary inputs, and maps the
outputs to where you need.

Viola, you have a service action. Think of it as a way to create code
modules that can be called repeatedly throughout your application and always
provide the right input, always getting the right output.

Can you please provide a detailed definition with scenarios on the user of
Service Action Type. (I. E. The use of input mappings, output mapping and
Request ID) The user guide does not seem to provide a clear and detailed
definition.

Thanks,

Moe

7.6.04 - Load balancing

2011-04-22 Thread John Baker
LJ,

That does suggest it should work without the sticky bit, but the web.xml file
is missing the distributable / element and hence Midtier won't (or rather,
should not) distribute sessions.

Friday Humor - Understanding Engineers

2011-04-22 Thread Robert Dalton
Is It possible to understand Engineers? Where there's a will, there's a way

Understanding Engineers #1
Two engineering students were biking across a university campus when one said,
Where did you get such a great bike? The second engineer replied, Well, I
was walking along yesterday, minding my own business, when a beautiful woman
rode up on this bike, threw it to the ground, took off all her clothes and
said, Take what you want.

The first engineer nodded approvingly and said, Good choice, The clothes
probably wouldn't have fit you anyway.

Understanding Engineers #2
To the optimist, the glass is half-full. To the pessimist, the glass is
half-empty. To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Understanding Engineers #3
A priest, an ophthalmologist, and an engineer were golfing one morning behind a
particularly slow group of golfers. The engineer fumed, What's with those
guys? We must have been waiting for fifteen minutes! The doctor chimed in, I
don't know, but I've never seen such inept golf! The priest said, Here comes
the greens keeper. Let's have a word with him.

He said, Hello, George. What's wrong with that group ahead of us?
They're rather slow, aren't they? The greens keeper replied, Oh, yes. That's
a group of blind firemen.
They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so we let
them play for free anytime.

The group fell silent for a moment. Then the priest said, That's so sad. I
think I'll say a special prayer for them. The ophthalmologist added, Good
idea. And maybe I could examine them to see if there's anything I can do for
them. They were silent for a moment. Then the engineer said, Why can't they
play at night?

Understanding Engineers #4
What is the difference between mechanical engineers and civil engineers?
Mechanical engineers build weapons.
Civil engineers build targets.

Understanding Engineers #5
The graduate with a science degree asks, Why does it work?
The graduate with an engineering degree asks, How does it work?
The graduate with accounting degree asks, How much will it cost?
The graduate with an arts degree asks, Do you want fries with that?

Understanding Engineers #6
Normal people believe that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Engineers believe that if it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

Understanding Engineers #7
An engineer was crossing a road one day, when a frog called out to him and
said, If you kiss me, I'll turn into a beautiful princess. He bent over,
picked up the frog, and put it in his pocket. The frog spoke up again and said,
If you kiss me, I'll turn back into a beautiful princess and stay with you for
one week. The engineer took the frog out of his pocket, smiled at it and
returned it to the pocket.

The frog then cried out, If you kiss me and turn me back into a princess, I'll
stay with you for one week and do anything you want. Again, the engineer took
the frog out, smiled at it and put it back into his pocket.

Finally, the frog asked, What is the matter? I've told you I'm a beautiful
princess and that I'll stay with you for one week and do anything you want. Why
won't you kiss me?

The engineer said, Look, I'm a busy engineer.
I don't have time for a girlfriend. But a talking frog, now that's cool!
