I guess we are the only ones doing Data Import through a Java Plugin? No
one has responded, so I am starting to feel that ARSList doesn't have the
answers or just easy questions are answered. I will have to look elsewhere.

The xerces that BMC use is a million years old. Java has a much better
implementation so you are better off without it.

So you are able to save and open the armx

So now what bit is failing in the original java plugin? If this is your
code and you are not giving any indication on where it is failing, then
this could be why you haven't had many replies.

2014-11-14 Thread LJ LongWing
Gordon,
You said 'Java Plugin', is this a Java Plugin running in the Remedy Plugin
arena, or a plugin running on something like a Tomcat server...

When you say it's running the Data Import Tool, does that mean that it's
dropping to a command prompt and executing it in a similar manner to what
you would do manually from the server, or, as I have in the past, simply
consuming the JAR file and calling the Data Import Tool methods directly?

Re: Problem with a Java Plugin, .arxm file and xercesImpl.jar

2014-11-14 Thread Gordon Frank
It did work, but when I had to redo the .armx file, it stopped. It works
manually, but it was built to come a .arx file to a standard folder and run
into a staging form with the push of an Active Link button. The file gets
to the folder, but It doesn't load the data. The original fix was to add
the xerces file to a directory called enclosed.

https://community.oracle.com/thread/1312680?start=0

I haven't been able to get it to work since the .armx file was corrupted. I
can at least do it manually now, but this was set up for users to push a
button.

The error I get is:
ERROR [pool-4-thread-3] com.bmc.arsys.pluginsvr.plugins.ARPluginContext

Re: OT: What was the first ARS app you built?

2014-11-14 Thread Joe Castleman
I can't recall the first app that I built -- I inherited several on the
same system which I had already been using as a help desk agent.

Our call center signed up one ISP after another as clients, and they each
needed a Remedy app. (They weren't ISPs, per se -- this was back in
dial-up days and they were reselling ISP service as some MLM tool. Our
sales force apparently kept going after them.) After I had done 3 or 4 of
these, I finally made a boilerplate app, so when the project manager said
that we were supporting a new ISP starting tomorrow, I could make edits
directly in the DEF file and have a new app in an hour or less. (However,
it seemed that the urgency with which these needed to go into production
strongly correlated with the likelihood that the project never actually
went live at all.)

Weirdest app I built was so our call center could take calls from a wealthy
family, e.g. the children reporting that an appliance was broken. We'd log
a ticket and dispatch the household staff.

It was a bit of a culture shock when I changed companies, and went from
supporting corporate clients to government clients. When dealing with the
former there was very little (if anything) in the way of documentation or
change management.

Currently I work with an all-custom AR system -- and for that I am
extremely grateful. Although some of the schemas are 20 years old, which
means Remedy was still fairly new when they started.

Happy Friday,

Joe Castleman

off ok, the audit log shows that some of the forms have been updated like
AR System User Preference, but looking at Status it shows 55 Pending, I
have deleted the lock record and tried again but the same think happens.
Name change worked fine but the username change doesn’t. Any suggestions
 greatly appreciated.

In the following format (ex. Requested_Start_Date for Change)

urn:Requested_Start_Date2014-12-01T02:00:00-04:00/urn:Requested_Start_Date

GMT date/time plus the Timezone offset. I use it from SOAP-UI and it works
great.

AR license user license needed for Smart-IT

2014-11-14 Thread Richter, Howard (CEI - Atlanta)
All,

Does anyone know what AR license user license needed for Smart-IT. I just tried
to give access to a user (who has all kinds of incident licenses, as well as
others) and a floating AR user license and he had no access. All I did was give
him a fixed one and it worked great.

Any ideas?

BMC has a big collection of documents and videos at:

I used that to get started with setting up the product.

Hey Rick:

Sounds more like an issue with the join than with ARInside. Have you tried
opening the join form in Dev Studio and search for the field on the join.

Ciao

Ticket Data Migration from 7.5 to 8.1

2014-11-14 Thread Kiran Patil
Hi All,

We are doing upgrading customer Remedy 7.5 to 8.1
Here is background -
1. Customer has 750GB-800GB transnational data of Incident, Change, Problem.
2. We are not doing in-place or staged In-Place upgrade. We will
implementing new 8.1
system and migrating data from Remedy 7.5 to Remedy 8.1.
3. Core Req:
1 - Customer wants all historical data to be migrated into
Remedy 8.1 along with
work logs (with attachments), Related other tickets,
task, SLA, Approvals (For change), audit log.
2 - Customer wants to retain old ticket number in system and
dont want new
ticket Id to be generated during migration process.

Our Solution:
1. Using UDM we can import transaction data and disable new Id creation and
can
retain old ticket number however we cannot control on C1 to retain from
old system.
UDM approach has 64000 records limitation per batch so migrating 750GB
will take
months or may be years to migrate data.

Is anyone has migrated ticket data using this approach, I would like to
hear issues/challenges occurs during activity. As per BMC somehow they dont
recommend it.

Any suggestion or idea will be welcomed.

Thanks
Kiran Patil
