Re: ARS 7.5 and MidTier sharing the same hardware?

2010-06-14 Thread Steve McDonald
Thanks for the input. Since it's a resource issue and not a compatibility
issue I think I'll do same box for dev/qa the seperate for production so
that when v8 comes, I'll be ready as James suggested.

2010-06-09 Thread Joe D'Souza
Steve,

You can, but it only means that there is very little resource you would be
able to allocate your web server with - and you may run the risk of the web
server crashing regularly or at least more frequently. If you are on Tomcat,
it will be OutOfMemory kind of errors, if on IIS an error similar to that..

If you can live with having to restart your web server more frequently go
ahead and have them all on a single machine..

Steve,

As others mentioned, it's only a problem if your resources are limited and
both need too much memory..I run in this configuration in my Dev environment
without issue.

Re: ARS 7.5 and MidTier sharing the same hardware?

2010-06-09 Thread strauss
Based upon the incredible numbers of network connections that we have been
seeing between test servers with ARS 7.5 and the 7.6 apps, where mid-tier and
flashboards were ONLY installed on a separate server and were used for the
AtriumCore console, data visualization modules, and KPI flashboards by
specifying them in the web path, we have decided to install one mid-tier and
the flashboards server locally on the AR server (24 gb RAM and 16 cores)
specifically to serve those functions. There is still a dedicated mid-tier
server on a separate box for general use by support staff and customers, and
all publicized links and email notifications will lead them to that mid-tier.
The local mid-tier will just be part of the plumbing, to cut down on the
network connections.
