As for providing direction for doing the work yourself - this is not something that anyone has looked into or planned so there's no real direction to give. You have to pick somewhere to start, dig, and figure out what needs to be done. If you have specific questions then the asterisk-dev mailing list would be the best place to discuss such things since that is where developer talk occurs. Beyond that, what makes you think forcing asterisk not to proxy RTP would be the best way forward for all that use asterisk? My company DEPENDS on it, and direct RTP would simply not function in our environment. Please don't do that.
