[asterisk-users] Obtaining callerid on a PRI for billing purposes (with non toll-free numbers)
I'm thinking of starting a partyline, where people call in and talk to other people. For record keeping and billing purposes, I'd like to go by the callers telephone number. This method works fine as long as the caller doesn't have callerid blocked, but what are my options if they do block their number? I know there must be a way to report it, because there is a service provider here in my area that if I call and block my number, they are still able to obtain it. I know that when dialing a toll-free number, that the number is reported regardless. But what about regular non-toll free numbers? Does anybody have any ideas how I can do this? Are there any providers out there that offer this service over PRI or some other method? Thank you in advance. ___ -- Bandwidth and Colocation Provided by http://www.api-digital.com -- asterisk-users mailing list To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users
[asterisk-users] Ideas on how to convert spoken name to text (or wav to text)..speech recognition software?

I wouldn't have a database to compare names to, each one would essentially be unique and unknown. It's sounding like this idea may be not possible...What high end options are available? I read about lumenvox, but I believe that compares to a known list of names (such as a directory, or Yes No, Digits, etc) Hum... There are solutions ranging from free to many thousands of dollars, with effectiveness ranging from nearly worthless to almost pretty good. A lot depends on your application. The most successful application would match an utterance from a known speaker to a known list of a couple dozen names. For example, if I say “Alfred Monticello,” the application can easily distinguish this from other list entries such as “Don Kelly” and “Robert Smith.” The least successful would attempt to convert an utterance from an unknown speaker to text (which is what your inquiry implies). Even if it clearly “understands” the speaker, the result could easily be “Alphret Mahntichelo.” --Don Don Kelly PCF Corp People Come First 651 842-1000 888 Don Kell(y) 651 842-1001 fax From:asterisk-users-boun...@lists.digium.com [mailto:asterisk-users-boun...@lists.digium.com] On Behalf Of Alfred Monticello Sent: Friday, January 30, 2009 9:25 PM To: asterisk-users@lists.digium.com Subject: [asterisk-users] Ideas on how to convert spoken name to text (orwav to text)..speech recognition software? Thanks. This has been useful, I've been toying with Sphinx4 but haven't gotten very far with it yet. Took a while to get my environment set up to compile all the java sources.. should have downloaded the binary distro...:-) From: Kurian Thayil kurianmtha...@gmail.com To: Asterisk Users Mailing List - Non-Commercial Discussion asterisk-users@lists.digium.com Sent: Friday, January 30, 2009 8:08:32 PM Subject: Re: [asterisk-users] Ideas on how to convert spoken name to text (orwav to text)..speech recognition software? Hi Alfred, There is a research project by Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) on a very versatile Speech Recognition Software. Its Sphinx http://cmusphinx.sourceforge.net/html/cmusphinx.php . This application is in raw state and the Version 2 of sphinx could be integrated with Asterisk. Festival (Text to Speech application) that is widely used in asterisk is by CMU. Refer http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Sphinx . I hope this gives a pretty good start. Sphinx needs to be trained with a language model. But since your requirement is just names it should not be complicated. Also have a look at http://www.speech.cs.cmu.edu/Communicator/ . Something I have not looked into much (and I don't know if it has anything to do with Asterisk). I hope this helps. Regards, Kurian Thayil. Re: [asterisk-users] Suggestions on how to create a hunt or huntlike (rollover, multi-line) group or where to get one?
Ideally, I'd like one number that can handle 5 calls or more. The provider I selected only offers 2 channels per number, and if I wanted more I'd have to switch my inbound unlimited plan to a metered plan which would end up costing too much. That's where I got the idea for a main huntgroup number that would go to each of the SIP lines I have that were not busy. Are there any providers that you or anybody knows of that offers decent rates for additional channels with an unlimited inbound plan? Thanks. This is puzzling. I would expect that your provider would be happy to present multiple calls to you. Maybe you have not expressed your requirement clearly to them. “Hunting,” in the classic sense, enables a call to a “pilot” number to be directed to the next available number in the group if the pilot number is busy. This implies that there are “lines” that each have a unique “number.” I wouldn’t think that you actually have “5 SIP lines”; you apparently have, or want to have, the ability to handle 5 concurrent calls. If you mean that you have 5 SIP numbers, you probably haven’t established the service you want. All that said, if your provider requires that each call comes to a different number and you’d like your callers to dial a single number, we can probably help with that. --Don Don Kelly PCF Corp We love technology, but People Come First. Re: [asterisk-users] Suggestions on how to create a hunt or hunt like (rollover, multi-line) group or where to get one?
Essentially, yes. The provider I chose offers 2 channels per number on an unmetered plan. To go with more channels I'd have to pay per minute on inbound which I'm afraid might end up costing too much! Do you know of any providers where I can up the channels, and stay with an unmetered plan at a reasonable rate? Usually a SIP DID provider will let you pay for extra ports for each DID number you have incoming (in fact a lot of them offer unlimited). Are you saying your provider is only allowing one call to your DID at a time with no option to increase it? There should be no reason to try and make a hunt out of multiple SIP DIDs. j On Wed, 21 Jan 2009, Alfred Monticello wrote: I'm still stuck with this problem..Would appreciate any ideas anyone might have on this one.
