Re: [Asterisk-Users] Linksys PAP2-NA
This is about big business. No ILEC is going to just sit idle and watch billions in revenue go out the window. It will be interesting to see if port blocking ever becomes an issue. Did I buy my Internet service with out without restrictions? H. Cisco sells to Telco's and Cable guys. Vonage has serious $ so I would expect serious business moves on their part. There is no way the excuse you were given is true. The real reason? Vonage probably went nuts and told Cisco to fix the problem. I know I would, how about the rest of you? There are other providers of hardware starting to gear up for mass production of terminal adapters. It will all happen before the end of the year. Re: [Asterisk-Users] Linksys PAP2-NA Update
Ok guys here is the deal. Someone decided that the boxes were shipped to soon. Alright, whatever. Now we are told that Linksys will have a program where you must be certifed as an ISP or VOIP company in order to purchase the box. Call as many dist. as you like but, selling the box after being told not to; will only get the dist. in trouble. So Linksys / Cisco now decides who is an Internet Service Provider? Speaking for myself this is real bullshit. As to why its being down? Power Control. Cisco seems to forget just who the hell made them as big as they are. Our company has made it clear to Cisco, not Linksys that there will always be other suppliers. Many of you will remember when SCO wanted you to get certified on Unix just because they needed extra cash. Or when Compaq wanted people approved and so on. the market demands this type of item. Others besides Linksys will build it. Leadtek offers a unit we use and the support is excellent. Its more money but I doubt that Leadtek or others will just sit by. The cash is there, the boom is on... Let the band play! Re: [Asterisk-Users] Re: Linksys PAP2-NA
What you said was true. I was trying to keep it simple. We are going to be doing all our own support and are not dealing with the dist companies you mentioned. Right now we are happy to be able to offer the low cost product. Brandon This is part of the Vonage deal. Vonage gets to deal with the unwashed hordes and has a financial incentive for helping them to get the ATA going. The reduced support costs are worth something to Linksys. They want to do the same thing with the unlocked version. If the reseller has an incentive (and the know-how) to provide first-level support, the box costs less. ___ Asterisk-Users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users

A suggestion here. For people wanting to use an area code it might be a good idea to pick one that is not used. Here is an example: I will pick northern Alberta, in Canada. Re: [Asterisk-Users] No Caller Name sent from Asterisk over Nationalor DMS100 PRI to a Norstar MICS?
The owner of the connection to the PSTN (Telco) must insert the NAME portion for Call Display. There is no way around that since its their database the NAME is located in. Someone correct me if I am wrong . Brandon For instance, it is possible to set your Caller ID Number on an outbound PRI call to 202-456-1414; on the callee's caller ID Display, the name and number will read THE WHITE HOUSE 202-456-1414. However, I do not recommend doing this. Re: [Asterisk-Users] Sending Caller ID info in MD/USA
Whom ever sells you your pstn connection would have to insert the name from their database. Only the number is passed with the call -pstn is as pstn does. I believe Asterisk will let me specify a name and number that is sent to the PSTN (Verizon) of outgoing calls. For instance, if I have a client, First Bank, and their toll free number is 888-555-1234, I could send that name and number. Verizon is telling me that they will forward the number I send them, but the name will be my company's name. I can't get an answer from them if this is a technical problem due to old equipment at their switching office; or if it is just a policy/law issue; or they just plain don't want to. Does anyone have any answers to this? Any responses or comments are welcome. Thanks, Bill Bill: Who "owns" the telephone number that the callerid number is being setto (you or the customer)? Are the outbound calls being sent over PRI or via IAX or SIP? I have a similar issue where I send outbound calls to a termination provider over IAX. I set the callerid number and name to my company's telephone number and name. Unfortunately my business isn't the customer on record with Qwest for that telephone number, so Qwest allows me to set the outbound callerid number but ignores my attempts to set the callerid name. Instead they replace the name with whatever name is actually on the account for that telephone number. (Hope I'm being clear...) If I terminate calls directly to the PSTN via my X100P I can't do anything of courseneed a PRI for that I suppose. Re: [Asterisk-Users] Sending Caller ID info in MD/USA
Mark a wise man pointed out that even today. modern switches and all... most Telco work is done by hand. The database you would need access to is not one a Telco would allow. Great idea - wrong century. If Telco's were smart this would be allowed and a small fee collected. VOIP exists because Telco's are not that smart. Hmmm BTN, may be I should tell that to my E1 provider, they use my CallerID as the BTN, additionnaly whenever I don't provide a number which matches the one configured on my PRI the set a default CallerID!!! So that's also the reason why they cannot provide me with such a service like send-any-callerid-you-like!!! Too bad!!!
