[asterisk-users] the-asterisk-book.com online (unstable version)
Hi, this is to inform everybody that the translation of my new book (unstable version) is online at http://www.the-asterisk-book.com The book is a GNU FDL project. So everybody who wants to participate is welcome to do so. Also, everybody who needs material for his own work, feel free to take it as long as the new material will become GNU FDL too. I am glad that Stephen Bosch (who you might know from this mailinglist) agreed to translate the beast. My German book has some 630 pages so that is quite a task and is going to take some more time. Of course it is not just a translation. It will contain many new stuff and you'll be able to follow the process on the webpage. The title is Practical Asterisk 1.4 and that is what I want to achieve. I am looking forward to receive your feedback. Now is the time for feedback and good ideas! Please contact me by PM. Right now I am heading to Canada to work with Stephen on this project. So give me some time for answering your e-mails. Being online while traveling is still a hassle. Which means that i can give the customer a standard product. All answers are about the Asterisk Business Edition. 2. Is there a GUI to manage asterisk? No. The Asterisk Business Edition is just as the normal Asterisk. 3. Can it be compared with Asterisk NOW? What do you mean by that? I guess your question is more: Will there be a Business Edition of AsteriskNOW? You have to ask Digium for that. 4. Is the CD a complete installation package? No or yes. Depending on what you mean. It is not a AsteriskNOW like installation including a linux distribution. 5. If im looking for hiring a server on a remote location how will i be able to install it? As you do the normal Asterisk. SSH is the key. PS: Why don't you just call Digiums Sales? I think they will be more than happy to provide you with all the answers you need about the Business Edition. [asterisk-users] German voiceprompts for 1.4 available
Hi, because many people contacted me about this the last couple of days and I guess most of them are on this list anyway: - Yes, our new German voiceprompts for Asterisk 1.4 are ready and can be downloaded at http://www.amooma.de/asterisk/service/deutsche- sprachprompts/ - Yes, we are in discussion with Digium about including them into the normal install process. I have no timeline but a GO from Digium. So it should be available pretty soon. Re: [asterisk-users] Re: Asterisk Faxing Support
Am 10.02.2007 um 14:06 schrieb Tzafrir Cohen: No. RedHat publish the full sources (as easily-rebuildable source packages) to all the packages in RHEL. This is why CentOS is possible. Digium may just as well *bundle* code of that sort in Asterisk (e.g: as a separate AGI script, or whatever). The pproblem is that linking such a code into Asterisk makes it (for the common interpertation of the copyrights laws) a part of Asterisk. So Digium cannot use exactly the same strategy as RedHat if it wants to allow people to link propietary modules with Asterisk. And this is the major difference. An other difference is that the dual license gives Digium the possibility to sell their code to other PBX vendors which might like to delete the word Asterisk or Digium out of their end product. MySQL does the same. Stefan -- amooma GmbH - Bachstr. 126 - 56566 Neuwied - http://www.amooma.de Let's use IT to solve problems and not to create new ones. I would like to know about it: test and practises questions examples, difficulty level,... I'll be very grateful if somebody sends me an exam model. The practical test is not too complicated but the 90 minutes for it are tough. Normally one has his set of tools to solve such problems at a client side (so you can simply cut and paste). In the exam you have nothing but a vi and the Asterisk. The exercise: You have to install and configure a PBX for a small company. In case you are doing Asterisk consulting as a daily business you shouldn't be in trouble at the practical test. But you can not afford to waste time in it ether. You have to know what you are doing. The 90 minutes theoretical test is IMO tough. Many questions about topics most people don't use to often in real live. Actually I don't see a good way to prepare for the theoretical test. Read a book about Asterisk and read the documentation of Asterisk. Rumor says that most people fail to pass the dCAP.
