There are quite a few signalling protocols to choose from and quite a few 
transport protocls as well.

>From the point ov view of Asterisk the only difference is the number of 
time slots (channels). However, the most common upper level protocols are 
different for the two.

Most of the possible choises are listed in the sample configuration files 
for Asterisk/Zaptel.
