Re: [Asterisk-Users] What is the best and easiest flavor to be used with Asterisk.
Any distro will work. Asking for what's the best distro is like asking the world's population what's the best religion or something. But then, here's my preferences: I use SuSE on the servers since IBM told me to. I'll recommend Debian or Gentoo, as they're free and non-commercial and very good. I'll recommend against Fedora, since it's a test-bed for RedHat (same stuff as Debian Testing or Unstable - not good for production). but again, that's just my prefs roy On Jan 12, 2005, at 4:58, Imran Sadiq wrote: x-tad-biggerCould anyone please advise me on the best flavor of Linux on which Asterisk is easiest to install./x-tad-bigger x-tad-bigger /x-tad-bigger x-tad-biggerI am currently using RH8.0, everything over the IP works fine but when I want to call a physical line I can only have conversation for about 3 sec and everything freezes after that./x-tad-bigger x-tad-bigger /x-tad-bigger x-tad-biggerI have to hard reset the machine to bring it back up. I use www.piebox.com (a Redhat AS Clone) which provides a good compromise between stability/release testing and cost - however I'm just using it on a test machine. RE: [Asterisk-Users] What is the best and easiest flavor to be used with Asterisk.
Never ever use Fedora if you want to use it for production. Not Fedora Core 1 ever, when the current version is Fedora Core 3. My experience with Fedora Core is not good. Seshu Kanuri On the contrary, I have over 30 FC1 machines in the field and they are running just fine. I build a lot of supplemental packages for the distribution so my installation is not pure Fedora. Since I don't change core packages I would imagine an out of the box FC1 is just as stable. I have seen many posts all over that FC1 is unstable. It has worked very well for us since day one but we use quality hardware in all our servers so maybe that is what makes the difference? -- Andrew McRory - President/CTO Linux Systems Engineers, Inc. - http://www.linuxsys.com Located in beautiful Tallahassee, Florida Office 850-224-5737 Office 850-575-7213 Mobile 850-294-7567 ___ Asterisk-Users mailing list Asterisk-Users@lists.digium.com http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users
