A linksys wrt54g flashed with the Tomato firmware provides the best
bang for the buck when it comes to QoS for voip. Installing the
firmware is now a very easy process that can be done via the linksys
web gui on the router. If you plan to use this method, I would set up
QoS rules for full priority to your trunking providers and your pbx
hostname. Then set all other traffic to 50% priority (as it's
cumulative calculation).

I heavily recommend this setup for the size of deployment.

I like the Qos functionality. Is that a linux based package available for
other distros?

You know, I'm not entirely sure. I've never thought about using it
outside the context of Tomato. Does anyone else know if that's a
standalone (and hopefully architecture independent) package?

Untangle is fantastic for this. Untangle.com. Not really an appliance,

I use a cheap Linksys router that lets me set port priority and set
the port to the Asterisk box at high priority and all the others at
the lowest priority and I've never had a problem.

Unfortunately there is sparse information I can find on line regarding
this device. The link as well as the 3 page PDF says little about it's
features.
Mac address clone on the Wan side?
Multi output on the LAN side?
Wireless output?
Power supply voltage to the box? ( not mains supply )
I am sure more will come to mind

A few of the developers for the Astlinux project ported some traffic
shaping tools into the Arno's IPtables firewall project. It's a set of
scripts and config files which make it easy to implement several
iptables related functions. The QOS has several features which are
geared specifically to optimizing VoIP traffic.

(perhaps a cleaner link)
http://freshmeat.net/projects/iptables-firewall/

Astlinux has used this firewall script for several years. Recent
versions include a nice web interface to access many of the features.
