[asterisk-users] Cisco phones with Asterisk

2007-10-17 Thread Anciso, Roy
Hello List,

For those of you using Cisco phones, did you have to purchase a 'SIP
license' for each phone?

Thanks

Why is it drug addicts and computer afficionados are both called users?

The 7940/7960 series phones, the option is under SIP Configuration,
Messages URI. I enter the voice mail extension here.

Also when there is a message the Phone doesnt light to give a notice
to the User of the phone ..

Any solution ?
Make sure you have an entry in your sip.conf. My phones come in from the
context from-sip, so in my sip.conf I have:

mailbox = [EMAIL PROTECTED]
In my case, extension 3501 would look like:
mailbox = [EMAIL PROTECTED]

 don't do that. my employer wouldn't like me for poking fun at their
 products.  :-P

 actually, i'm planning an asterisk-based voip network and was thinking
 of using the 7940/7920 phones for the end stations. i've heard both
 good and bad things from word-of-mouth, so now i pose the question
 here.  good idea to do?

Non-technical end users love the 7960/7940 phones, and they work very
well if properly configured, etc. No experience with the 7920, but
would guess they are about the same.

If you dig around, you should be able to buy these new from any of
several cisco resellers for about the same price as what several
folks are trying to sell them for as used. Also, insist that whoever
you buy the phones from provide an annual maintenance contract ($8/yr
US) in the deal. Nothing less.

Make sure not to buy any 7910 if you want an all SIP network. I dont
see any advantages for it specially if you are in a planning stage.

I also have seen tons of posts sayin that the 7920's are a pain to get
'em working.

 My 7940 works flawlessly.  It's running 6.3.
