Re: [asterisk-users] Asterisk Upgrade

2009-01-17 Thread Torintino T

after doing that (erasing Asterisk 1.4 completely and installing Asterisk 1.2)
will this impact all of the trunks configurations that are existed in FreePBX
that i made before
i mean, will i need to make something to operate all these trunks
configurations as before?.

That will get you into trouble when it _does_ break.
I rather *test* new versions, fix any configuration problems and then
keep the live versions uptodate.
It can be quite a nightmare to skip lots of versions, particularly under
timepressure with a broken system at hand.

because I don't feel comfortable with the stability of later releases.

Re: [asterisk-users] asterisk upgrade

2006-10-16 Thread Mojo with Horan Company, LLC
I concur with Conrad. As I understand it, as long as you stick with
1.2.x versions, there should be no new 'features' to worry about
implementing, only bugfixes. So I'd recommend keeping up with them, and
the 'upgrade' should go smoothly because it's generally not too much of
an upgrade.

I'd recommend you stay away from 1.4.x until you've had ample time to
test it (and it's had ample time to be claimed mature enough for
production). I'm not claiming 1.4.x is not ready for production, I bet
there is a large number of peoples on the list using it happily in
production, but you rightly seem to desire as little trouble as possible
in the upgrade... and the implementation of a few features has changed
considerably in 1.4.

RE: [Asterisk-Users] Asterisk Upgrade to 1.2

2006-01-03 Thread Adam Vocks

Is it possible to adjust the timings of
how long asterisk listens before it trys to match or is there something else
that I should be looking for? It acts as though asterisk is seeing a match in
the dial plan for the very first dtmf tone.

Thanks

Adam

Hello all,

After upgrading to asterisk 1.2 or the current CVS HEAD, asterisk
doesnt receive all of the DID number that is calling in. I have a
T100P and a freshly installed version of Fedora.

Any ideas? If I install version 1.0 it works fine.

[Asterisk-Users] Asterisk Upgrade Path

2005-05-10 Thread Pablo Alsina
Hi

We have been experimenting with different versions of Asterisk, and
found that the path to switch from one version to onother (say 1.0.7
to CVS for example) is somewhat unelegant, at least what we did:
 make
 make install
and replace everything in your system.

When you have problems with one version and switch to another, you
start to wonder that maybe some leftover from a previous version of
Asterisk or/and zaptel libs is affecting the install.

How are you guys doing? We tried to install everything under a
separate directory tree (say /usr/local/asterisk/asterisk-v1.0.7,
etc), but then the asterisk does not see the zaptel cards, even if
everything seems to be up n'running.

It would be nice to have an asterisk.spec with each version, in order
to allow a fresh RPM build of each version, and use RPM as an
installer/deinstaller tool. Does somebody have these or tried this
way?

Regards.

[Asterisk-Users] Asterisk upgrade on production box

2004-05-21 Thread Nik Martin
What is the best way to upgrade a production asterisk box? make upgrade? I
don't want my configs messed with, and need the process to go as smooth as
possible. I fetched and built a new kernel last night, but haven't rebooted
into it. I'll do that tonight, and then want to quickly upgrade to the
latest asterisk (mainly for zttest.)

Does make upgrade fetch head?

An approach that has worked good in the past is to...
1. rename your /usr/src/asterisk (and others) to /usr/src/asterisk-may20
2. do a complete checkout/build/install as though building from scratch.

If you need to go back to a previous version, simply rename the directories
and reinstall. I've had problems with 'cvs update' in certain cases after
new files added to cvs or I've touched a local file for whatever reason.

2004-05-21 Thread Brian Cuthie
I'm sure there are better ways, but I usually do the following:
1) make sure my current source directory is named something else (see
step 3)

2) fetch cvs head
3) mv asterisk to something like asterisk_cvs_head_5_21. This keeps all
the old source trees around so that I can easily roll back to any
version I've installed previously.

4) cd to the new asterisk directory (whatever you called it in step 3)
5) make
7) asterisk -r
8) show channels to make sure nobody's using it
9) stop now
10) exit asterisk
11) make install
12) restart asterisk
Note that if you don't 'make samples' the stuff in /etc/asterisk won't
get torched. This should be fine, assuming that the new version doesn't
require any config changes. Naturally, you'll want to poke around in
asterisk/configs to see what kind of new options are available.

Is it normal for asterisk to have to be recompiled when you upgrade your
kernel? I fetched a new kernel yesterday, taking me from 2.4.25 to 2.4.26
I built yesterday, and rebooted this afternoon. After upgrading, none of the
asterisk modules would load. I assume they are dependent on the kernel they
were compiled against?

RE: [Asterisk-Users] Asterisk upgrade on production box

2004-05-21 Thread Nik Martin
I figured so, but searching for upgrade and kernel returned so many
irrelevant hits I threw in the towel.

Yes you will need to recompile zaptel also. This is comonly
talked about on the mailing list.

Is it normal for asterisk to have to be recompiled when you upgrade
your kernel? I fetched a new kernel yesterday, taking me
 from 2.4.25
to 2.4.26 I built yesterday, and rebooted this afternoon. After
  upgrading, none of
 the
asterisk modules would load. I assume they are dependent on the
  kernel
 they
  were compiled against?

I'm sure there are better ways, but I usually do the following:

   1) make sure my current source directory is named something else
   (see step 3)

   2) fetch cvs head

   3) mv asterisk to something like asterisk_cvs_head_5_21.
 This keeps
all the old source trees around so that I can easily roll back to
   any version I've installed previously.

   4) cd to the new asterisk directory (whatever you called
 it in step
   3)

   5) make

   7) asterisk -r

   8) show channels to make sure nobody's using it

   9) stop now

   10) exit asterisk

   11) make install

   12) restart asterisk

Note that if you don't 'make samples' the stuff in /etc/asterisk
won't get torched. This should be fine, assuming that the new
   version doesn't
require any config changes. Naturally, you'll want to
 poke around in
asterisk/configs to see what kind of new options are available.
