[asterisk-users] Install Asterisk 1.4 and Asterisk 12.4 on the same machine
Hi, We have a server with asterisk 1.4. We are upgrading to asterisk 12.4. Is there a way to install 12.4 on the same machine? At any point we will only run either 1.4 or 12.4. You can install both versions and run them at the same time as long as you pick different ports for all services like SIP, IAX, AMI, RTP, etc. Not using default ports will mean that you have to modify all configurations for each endpoint you want to connect to the secondary Asterisk. Thank you for the response Carlos! We have done the testing on a VM. I want to deploy it on a production machine which already has 1.4 on it. I want to keep both so in case there is any issue with 12.4, I can quickly revert to 1.4. I can take care of configuring different ports for different services but will there be any issues due to upgradation of dependencies? Is there a way to install dependencies of asterisk 12.4 at different path so they don't conflict with 1.4 dependencies? Hi, I'm giving Adhearsion a try on a Debian Squeeze. I read here (https://github.com/adhearsion/adhearsion/wiki/Getting-Started) that the command sudo gem install adhearsion should automatically add the ahn command to your system. On mine I can't run ahn without specifying full path (/var/lib/gems/1.8/bin/ahn). Did I miss something ? I have installed Asterisk before w/ no issues but while trying today (1.6.2.13 and centors 5.4) I receive the following at the CLI: The configure script must be executed before running 'make'. Please run ./configure. Any tricks on getting through this? The requirement to run ./configure has been around since sometime in 1.4
And CentOS 5.5 is current. You might wan to update it first?

Hi. I've been working with Asterisk for a few month now with great results. I'm very happy with this product. I hope I can be of help in the future of this project. Right now I'm having some problems installing it in a new server. I wont bore you with details because finally the solution to my problem was clean and elegant and it came from a guy in a Linux mailing list. Here is my question. My first install experience was quit a headache. I downloaded the sources from Digium, make them and after that make install them. Before that, I had to install all the dependencies bison, ncurses, zlib,gcc...and all there devels packages. After that, libpri, dahdi and finally Asterisk. I did it the first time for a server with Fedora 12. Took a while but it is running now. Then I decided to install in a new server. My project is geting bigger so, why not ? This time, the server was up with Fedora 13. No problem. Well not so fast. Yes problem !!! I can not install it !!! But my new friend from Linux.org mailing list suggested: yum install Asterisk and voila There you have it, Sr. A new Asterisk up and running in 5 seconds. How come nowhere in the internet, nor in Digium.com docs, blogs, or whatever, anybody mention that yum install is available ? Why nobody ever make a small note telling that asterisk is available from repositories to install, and that is so easy ? Can anybody explain that to me ? The short answer from someone who sees Linux as a means to an end ( running Asterisk ) is the rpm install forces one to accept Asterisk as built for the rpm, whereas installing from source gives a much more flexible install regarding any options. Also, I would suggest next time use CentOS 5, rather than Fedora. Linux distros are always somewhat of a religious argument, but many fewer problems seem to be reported that with Fedora. and then there is the Debian camp! Tzafrir, I wasn't following one document. I read a lot and made my own tutorial following many tutorials found on the way. The version I was installed was 1.4 I have the sources so I tried to use the same version. So I followed the same procedure that worked for mi last time. Mi problem is not with Asterisk. A can not pass the first step: yum install kernel-devel. I'm having problems with my server. Some kernel version problems The thing is that FEDORA has Asterisk in repository and I run yum install asterisk and worked fine. I Hope I wont have troubles after that but so far, looks good. I think that if a fix my system problem, everything will work fine. But for now, the solution that I found is ok. Hi, We are trying compile dahdi on amazon vertual instance. When we are compiling dahdi we receieve following error. You do not appear to have the sources for the 2.6.21.7-2.fc8xen kernel installed. While working with Rhino hardware I was told by their technical support that no virtual machine software gives access to the PCI bus, so using zaptel or dahdi is not an option over the virtual machines. Although somebody has said otherwise on this list but make sure you actually have access to the dahdi hardware from within your virutal machines before trying to compile these drivers. I have installed the pre-requisite versions asked for and successfully got AGX addons installed. Except it doesn't work. Failure to train remote modem at 2400 from the sending system. This suggests to me that it is trying to use VoIP communications. Is there a way to make this support T38 or do I just have to conclude that so far every option is lousy? I mean - how obvious is it to create something that works with T38? We don't all have cheap PRI circuits available. Hi, I've read README file in agx-ast-addons-1.4.17.5.tar.bz2 It says Install libTiff =3.8 and 4.0 Should you really use this agx-ast-addons to get app_rxfax and app-_txfax running with latest 1.4.22 ? If positive, should you take this libtiff warning into account ? If positive, where can you find such libtiff version as Debian repository (I didn't check alternate distrib) includes libtiff4 but no libtiff3 not libtiff. Except that FreePBX has problems with php5. I played with this a little with asterisk 1.4 and CentOS 5 and got it all working, I just have not had time to get the scripts finised. The other thing with CentOS vs Debian is that CentOS packages do not change every month or so. Debain seems to a little more on the bleeding edge of this, which is not the best thing for a production system. It is totally person preference and nothing else. I'm new to Linux, as I've been using Asterisk on FreeBSD via the ports collection. My question is simple - for using the release branch of Asterisk (1.2.13 for now), should I get in the habit of using svn to retrieve the source or should I just download the tarball? Is there a best practice or a recommended installation method? Hi Alvaro, MAGI did not make it into Asterisk, and AFAIK, is almost not used at all in the Asterisk community (I would like to know if somebody else is using it around here). Right now im in the middle of a development for the company I work, based on MAGI patch. Thanks! It works! (at first) I installed my deb from the given repository and I think it all went find. Asterisk starts up and I can get to the console. But... where are the drivers? updatedb / locate sees no zaptel drivers, and I've got none of the zapp tools on the system. Is that a separate download/install? If so, what's the name of the package I need to install? Just updated two fc3 systems running svn trunk. One updated, installed properly, and is working fine. The second box failed during the 'make install' process with: /usr/lib/libnetsnmp.a(parse.o)(.text+0x275a): In function `unload_module': : multiple definition of `unload_module' res_snmp.o(.text+0x310):/usr/src/asterisk/res/res_snmp.c:102: first defined here /usr/bin/ld: Warning: size of symbol `unload_module' changed from 66 in res_snmp.o to 284 in /usr/lib/libnetsnmp.a(parse.o) collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[1]: *** [res_snmp.so] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/asterisk/res' make: *** [subdirs] Error 1 I noticed in the res/Makefile includes the following: # NETsnmp has some difficulties on some platforms (conflict with unload_module) # Until we figure out if the collission is version-specific or what to do # we have disabled res_snmp on OS/X and *BSD The two fc3 boxes have different versions of the /usr/lib/libnetsnmp modules (since they are different sizes on the two boxes). My work around was to simply comment out the res/Makefile steps to compile the res_snmp module, and to use 'noload res_snmp.so'. Is this worthy of opening a bug assuming the above comment is still valid? Would the individual(s) maintaining res_snmp want to log into either of these internet accessible boxes to identify the root cause? The install instructions tell you to copy all of the files extracted under the 'html' directory to a subdirectory under your main web directory (in my case this is /var/www/html/panel/) and then the instructions talk about modifying the 'op_server.cfg' file but they do not tell you were to put this file. There is something wrong with the instructions??? English is not my first language, so the instructions might be hard to understand. If you are reading the README, it is because you already extracted the tarball. You can place all files wherever you want: a nice place is under /usr/local. I usually use /usr/local/fop. , the only thing that is mandatory is to move the html and swf files somewhere into your webroot for an obvious reason.
