I would believe you get a single license, and that license is good for a single

Otherwise you'd see people installing 100s of VMs and installing a single FFA

That's actually what I thought as well, until I read the description on the
Product page on the digium site for the Free FFA (
http://store.digium.com/productview.php?product_code=804-7):

Free Fax For Asterisk is provided, one *per installation* of Asterisk, to
customers without charge.

The reason I ask is I've got a few different clients that want to test Fax
for Asterisk. I was planning on buying the Free FFA license using my
digium account, but I don't want to get locked out after installing it on my
first client's machine, and I was hoping to avoid creating multiple
digium.com user accounts if it was possible. Oh well, if it's not possible,
it's not a big deal to create the multiple accounts, even if I'm the only
one that will ever use them...

No, version 1.0.7 is the latest version of benchfax. The program takes
steps to handle the problems that occur when the tests cannot be
performed on a particular CPU, but apparently in this case those
measures are not triggered.

You say it has stopped at different points as you've run different
tests; can you verify that? If it always stops at 'nocona', that would
mean one particular type of problem, but if it stops at various
different places, then that would point to something very different.

Hello Kevin.

Thanks for the reply.

I have three examples that follow. The first I ended after 11 minutes.
I got as far as nocona, then the hang.

The next run had me down to c3 in 8 minutes, before hanging there. I
let it run for another 8 minutes or so.

Finally, I let the thing run for 24 minutes and only got to nocona again.

What is a reasonable time for this entire test suite to finish, if it
completed normally?

There are 15 CPU flavors being tested, and each one will take 3-5
seconds to complete; certainly no more than one minute, on an otherwise
idle system. As you can see from your 'time' output, the process really
didn't use very much CPU time at all, something must have gone wrong and
it is 'waiting' for something to complete... but I wouldn't be able to
guess what would be off the top of my head.

If you can, run it again under 'strace', capture the output, compress it
with gzip or bzip2 and email it to me directly; that may give us a clue
what it was doing.

Hi All,

Sorry to hijack this post but I am confused. What is the advantage of using
this Digium Fax For Asterisk product when you can use Asterisks' 1.6.x module
app_fax or Asterisks' 1.4.x agx-ast-addons with the app_txfax and app_rxfax
modules?

2009-05-13 Thread Markus Weiler
Hi,
it was was my fault, there is no retry ... sorry to bother you.

@David:
I wasn`t very conviced about Spandsp, after trying several versions it
worked, but not well.
We are sending faxes via SIP. When sending faxes from our 1.6 Asterisk
to our 1.4 Asterisk 50%+ Faxes failed.
T.38 worked once then stopped I never found the right
Asterisk-App_fax-Spandsp-dialplan setup again.
I event patched the app_fax, which contained errors, just to get it working.
Although I have to admit I installed it on our other Asterisk
1.4.17-BRIstuffed (Spandsp 0.0.4-test6) and it works just fine.

I just tried Digiums solution to test if it´s better and it is, all the
testfaxes went through.
T.38 worked instantly.
Configuration was pretty easy and well documented.
I think $50 per channel is not too much money either, just the
support...well there is none.

hope i could help

Markus

You already claimed that this isn't actually the case. I will tell you
that the hardware fax appliances I have used, commonly called fax
machines will retry a fax three times before giving up, at least if
they get a busy as opposed to a different kind of failure.

spandsp has been revised to the point that it's now at 0.0.6pre11,
released this month. I've had quite the opposite experience, that
newer versions are working better than previous versions for me.

We are sending faxes via SIP. When sending faxes from our 1.6 Asterisk
to our 1.4 Asterisk 50%+ Faxes failed.
T.38 worked once then stopped I never found the right

You don't say what any of the errors were, so it's hard to tell
whether you encountered bugs or just had configuration issues.

As to fax over SIP, you cannot use a compressed voip codec. It must be
G.711 and you must send faxes no faster than 9600bps. You should also
definitely turn off vad on any intervening voip appliances.

With the 1.6.0 series, regular app_fax, T.38, and the 0.0.6 SpanDSP
series I'm receiving near 99% faxes from real business customers.
