Im still using xp, and I dam well hope the internet doesnt stop working in January, since that would be scummy. Yep, I probably could use windows 7,but why should I migrate to an os with an inconvenient interface Id have to spend time learningthat wont run a good part of my games and software? Ive still never heard any good reason to upgrade and frankly Im a litle pissed off with microsoft for not keeping at least something with the same interface as they did from windows 95 to xp.Yep, windows 7 and 8 might be more secure, have bigger amounts of this, more of that and larger numbers of the othe, but if they wont actually help me do anything better on my machine why should I care? When there are lots of things in a new os I want to do, and lots of things I want to run that require it, then! Ill considder switching not before, and frankly microsoft should understand this rather than force people to
  buy their newer os, with no backwards compatibility and their useless interface that you are forced to use because there is no alaternative.Oh, and no, Im not exactly pleased about this.btw, you actually can still use win 95 on the internet, since I have met people who do, albeit it doesnt work with a lot of modern sites, so Id be surprised if xp utterly stopps working .Its actually surprised me, a lot of sites Ive visited have recently been saying that ie8 is not supported bla bla expect lower functionality, but Ive not actually found anything I couldnt do. Btw, regarding security well Avg has solved that problem nicely for many years for me, so its not one anymore.I would considder getting a map with the xp boot camp thing, accept that Ive heard all macs now come with windows 7 virtual machines instead. Hello allI have fairly recently began development in a tower defence like game in BGT. But there is something that has me completely stumped. How do I get enemies to follow a specific path on a grid? The map is a 2d array, and what I’ve been thinking is somehow if the square equals a certain number, then the enemies would go to it. However since this is my first time creating artificial intelligence for a game, I don’t completely know the logic to code for that, or what is the best way to write it for that matter. Also just quickly, how would I make the first coordinate not to be said by the screen reader as a number, but as a letter? For the coordinate thing, what Id do is make a string or string array of letters, and refer to that. If you dont need double letters (say, if the grid is never bigger than 26 in the x direction), you could just put the alphabet in a string. Otherwise, put all the values in an array of strings.As for following the path, thats a little more complicated, and there are multiple possible solutions.One would be, if you have one of the commercial licenses, to use the pathfinder object, which is still kinda complicated, but still worth a look.Assuming you dont have access to the pathfinder, heres what Im thinking:- The enemies need to remember their previous position. If you have an enemy class, just add something like prev_x and prev_y as properties (or a vector, if you prefer).- How you find candidate tiles for the next move depends on whether or not they can move diagonally. (If they can, you might want to have the pre
 vious two positions saved, which seems a bit excessive.) If they can, two for loops to find candidates and compare them to the previous positions will do.- If diagonals arent possible, itd probably be easier to just check the possible moves individually. Id recommend a function for this, but I dont know which of your variables are global and which arent to know what you should send to it.Something like check_space(int x, int y), assuming it has access to the enemy and the map as a whole. Good morning all:Ive been getting errors when trying to set up bk3 to work with NVDAs translation plug in. Here are the steps as follows. Start the game, go through the update process. then the game goes in to this strange dialogue. afterwords I choose from 2 options the first of the 2. then I get the first super script error. Next I get in to the game and wait for the main menu to come up. I pick option 4 from the menu. then option 3 from the second menu then the last option from the third menu. that is when I get the second super script error and when I hit ok on that, the game dies. Would someone tell me whats going on and whether Im picking the right selections? microsoft wont magically switch off the internet for windows xp. As for the mac and bootcamp, you cant run xp that way yes, but the XP VM rout is still open to you. You wouldnt have to convert your documents either, text edit in OS X, as well as iWork opens all your microsoft stuff.. THe only good Ive noticed out of these crummy Windows updates are the narrator updates which I hope to God will contnue to get better.As for the mac, I think you can run XP under Bootcamp, though I would say get vmware fusion and run XP virtually. THis would let you use both the Mac OS and Windows at the same time.Yeah, I dont think the internet on XP is going away. As for windows 95, how does it still access the internet? Im not even able to access google services anymore. I was trying to install the kitkat launcher and google services under a 4.1.2 galaxy tablet because someone said it worked. The launcher worked fine but all google services crash. Now I have to wait on samsung to release 4.4 which will probably never happen as they are mean and want us to wait. They waste time modding their ai with the touchwhiz interface! They want people to think android is all samsung and give them all the credit. Thats arrogent. Screw it, they never cared about the blind anyway because they tried to block Apple from including accessibility in their phones anyway, so we might as well say they want to stop blind people from using phones anyway. I knew I shouldve gotten a nexus 7 since the touchwhiz keyboard destroys half of the accessibility of android. Fleksy is still in beta. Eyes free keyboard barely works. Anyone have a stock rom? eurpod.net/vmware. Ok, I think the whole thing about hte internet not working was to intimidate people into upgrading to singing dancing windows7. Its a relief to know that internet will still work as a lot of the business world is still using xp. Typically, as long as the software needed to do the job is still functioning propperly, they wont upgrade unless they really need to. That includes the internet too. Who knows, maybe the xp not being supported will make this Robert Betz upgrade his games to work under win7? Who needs eloquence direct, eloquence is 1 dying out, really the only products that use it are the ghetto blindy devices such as the braillenote, and most other notetakers that exist before 2011. Well good to know about the internet, though as I siad itd be surprising. it was a while ago I admit perhaps two or three years but I did still hear of a windows 95 user. I dont know how she was managing, but apparently she did have E-mail and a basic net connection but didnt do that much online in way of websites since many didnt work. A mac with virtual xp might be where Id go if I were forced, though id have to try a mac first and decide if the mac was better than windows 7 and 8 for interface (which it likely is). The only thing that puts me off a mac are A, that there arent many games and other programs, and B, no winamp, or even foobar. (vlc is okay, but Itunes I actively dislike), I do also wonder about the mac file management especially with my large audio collection. Id also have to relearn mail programs and writing word documents, though again windows 7 and mac are eq
 ual there since silly microsoft removed Outlook express, the most popular mail program on xp and replaced it with the far stupider and less user friendly ms outlook,  and yes, outlook is usable but as with much of win windows 7, with significantly more hassle for no bennifit (Id miss my easily scrolling contacts list).. Im writing this from my sisters computer at our folks house, and the computer is running Windows Xp. At least it was a little bit ago. I am currently logged into my System Access Mobile Network account, and everythings working flawlessly with the exception of a couple hardware issues. But the speakers that are hooked up here were mine back in 1995,. I really liked Xp, and I think its unfortunate that Microsoft is pulling the plug on it. Say that 0 is left, 1 is right, 2 is up, 3 is down. Put them in a list. Pull the first off, move in the direction it specifies, and then repeat every so often depending on the speed. This is the simplest, but requires specifying the path in the level on a per-enemy basis.If all enemies are to have a shared path, put this path in a global list somewhere. have each enemy have an index representing their next move. Increment the index on the enemy, look up the next tile, and move there if empty. Repeat every so often. This would add an interesting dynamic in that slower enemie
 s might block faster ones, etc. All enemies have a path index of 0, and increment it after they move once. If theyve got a path index longer than the path, just dont do anything, or have them explode damaging the players tower, etc. If you want to be quick about this approach, you could just encode the path as the square the enemy is supposed to be at, and swap them there if empty--this eliminates some if statements, but isnt flexible for later. If coded right, such that you break it up into a get_next_direction and a do_move function, you could easily move them randomly by changing the get_next_direction function to return one of the random directions, which is worth the extra complexity IMO.Finally is non-determined paths, where you tell the enemy to get from point A to point B. This is called A* (A-Star, do note the star). The algorithm is too complex for me to go over here, and may be too complex for a new programmer; i
 t an be coded in 100 lines or so, but isnt the simplest thing. The idea is that you look at all adjacent squares recursively, looking at the most promising path. If implemented correctly, A* will always give the shortest path between any two points. It requires the use of a priority queue, at the least, and if your map does not meet certain conditions and is large, it can be inefficient (namely, if the heuristic is admissible and consistent, then you can only check each square once; if not, you need to continue checking squares over again according to the algorithm. I do not recall at the moment if Pythagorean theorem counts as consistent, but do not believe so. Yup! My next Windows VM, I have determined, will be XP. No need for anything newer, and in fact quite a few disadvantages. Sure XP is a backwater OS, but so what? I dunno. I think Apples accessibility is as good as its going to get on Doze; tab will get you to all the controls, even the LCD readout IIRC. And there are shortcuts for pretty much everything in the program, like in most Apple software. hi. Ok, im stuck on stage 1 level 2. I cannot seem to get out of the wearhouse after getting that rope weapon. If I try to go back through the same door I went in, the game crashes. I have tried everything, but cannot seem to find another exit out of the wearhouse. Also, what is the best way to kill those lamps? I can kill them sometimes, but I have no idea what im doing or how im doing it.
