Hmm, I believe I would go for Technoshokc here, but there are good things about both. Shades seems a little more realistic, more spacious, and less difficult. Technoshock has things right in your fae most of the time. In fact you cant even hear most objects until they are about 15 to 20 steps away, where as with Shades, you can hear things 60 feet away or more. However there are things I dont like about both games. Ill go through my likes and dislikes of each one.Shades:I like that it is more open and is less chalenging most of the time. It generally plays and sounds smoother. However I dont like the low quality sounds, but I wont hold tat against it since everything is clearly distinguishable from everything else. I do hope that the update provides 3d sound back in, because in Rauls Shades walkthroughs, which sadly are not up as far as i can tell, had some nice 3d effects on some of the sounds. Something is always happening, and each level is invigorating and exciting. New challenges are introduced each level, and by the end, youre almost glad that its over, even though there are only 6 levels and each one is pretty short. However, I do not like the laginess of the game, and have experienced issues playing the game with certain versions of Windows and certain sound cards. it drives

more questions about Monkey Business

Hi all,I just installed and registered MOnkey Business on this machine again after a crash. It scares me just how much better I am at it now than I was a few years ago when I started. So here are my questions.On level 5, on easy difficulty, I get to the temple and am in the area with the statues and monkeys. On easy difficulty, I can catch all five monkeys and reveal the teleporter. However on medium, the fifth monkey is frozen underneath the teleporter, and only starts moving when the teleporter is revealed. He then summons the ghosts as was described in the manual. I havent tried insane but Id assume the behavior is the same. Is it normal for there to be no ghosts on easy, but to have ghosts on the higher difficulties? I wonder why the ghosts were removed on the easy difficulty. A second question about level 5, how do the ghosts attack? I know once they get close enough to you, they growl and start making this noise, but I cant tell what theyr
 e doing. Is it like the Dr. Wobble level where the robot shoots the rocket and if you run fast and far enough, the rocket will eventually give up the chase?Now, two more questions... on level 7, which is the beach, I remember a while ago, I caught the monkey on the ship first, so I wouldnt have to worry about cannons being shot at me, but I remember getting shot at anyway even after I caught the monkey. Is this a bug in the game or am I losing it? LOLAnd on level 8, where are all those stupid trees gathered? Is there an area i should confine myself to so I dont have to deal with them? I remember hearing that an older version of Monkey Business didnt have so many trees, though I doubt I would have it lying around. Id want to play with it thoughAnd this is the last one, I promise! On the bonus level, which I havent played with much, I know its a little difficult at times, but I also heard there is a bug which prevents the score fro

Is there a better way to keep track of what in the game youve unlocked except for achievements (things to put in the stage builder for example). I got a couple of enemies including the malicious batch and the registry killer, and some of the early ones, but I got no clue which ones I can unlock with stat totals, play time, difficulty mods or just other stuff, itd be nice if there was a better way to find that out. Something like your utility would be vary useful, and I might be able to find a use for it. Isnt there something close to it in linux. My small amount of playing on linux, something close to this is there for develipors, but I am most likely wrong. Anyway, severestormsteve swamp is great. Im playing cw on swamp. I got my account around a week ago. It turn out that I missed it. I played it some before it went payed, but when it went payed, I weighted until I had the extra cash to spair. Yesterday was interesting. I stepped out of the safe zone on map two and ran right into a crowd of zombies. Luckly for me, they were far enough apart that my glock 17 was enough to handle them. LOL. As for swamp, shift plus v is my friend. Of cource, the beacons help too. As for shades of doom, it is and was good for what it is. There is more sounds in SOD to keep you mostly from getting loss, but there is mostly one type of surfice That surfice appears to be stone wich is what you expect for the kind of building you are wondering around in SOD. Im playing swamp more lately. What can I say, I get to go out side in swamp and swamps game world seems bigger. LOL. I would like to see an upgrade to SOD, but Im not to sure that david have that much of a reason to upgrade it. Burak, he cant. It takes as long as it takes to do the updates, and if the system shuts down due to over heating then he needs to take it to a tech to try and fix it. Its obvious either one of his case fans or processor fans isnt cooling the system enough. The walkthrough seems to be dead yes. Perhaps Ill do one at some point, but it requires quite a bit of time and I mostly dont play it all at once so who knows.You can place a checkpoint by pressing m to change the tile, there should be a checkpoint option there.Ive now also unlocked a zip bomb enemy by getting to difficulty 7. Hadi you bring up an excellent point that I had not considered. Writing school papers is definitely something youd want backups of! I also remember times in the past where a computer crash would delete many pages of some school paper.When it comes to not remembering to safe often, I could easily add in options for a sound reminder Remember to save to be set at some time interval, or it could even just hit control+S for you every few minutes. If you were to buy one of them with out a contract, compared to the higher end phones, its the best way to go.The line of Nexus phones are actually really good, because they will be the phones to get the newest versions of Googles android OS. hMost memorable Interactive Fiction?

So, I was in an old-style mood and felt like playing IF stories again, swimming through the archive of stories on the ifarchive. it got me thinking of all the old games I played on my keynote.   Two I remember playing were Curses and Jigsaw that were on a thumbsdrive that someone gave me with some games on it. both were long and provided a lot of puzzles to blunder through or use the packaged walkthrough . As well, I remember playing one that I believe was called the Inside Woman...a spy story that had a lot of twists while blundering through the many puzzles which involved knowing which set of items to bring and not horribly get killed.   And right now I downloaded enemies, and having a good time with it, though some of the puzzles kind of made me feel stupid when I realize I found out wht to do. Still ba

It really depends whether you want something out of the box or you are happy to load the original android rom onto the phone. The Motorola G and Motorola E are fairly cheap phones and from what I hear they are very good too. They may of course come with a custom firmware, since google no longer owns Motorola. Aaaagh! puzzles! thats why I dont play tradditional interactive fiction anymore, sinse I really disliked well written games that killed me for not realizing I had to sniff the dwarf to find out there was sulphur in his trousers which I could then use with the hollow rubber duck to make a bomb to blow the safe open . I might be exaggerated here, but probably not by much . these days I prefer limited parza text adventure games like eamon or come to that like Inquisitor.I can say though i had some distinct favourite If games back when I played If, Ill mention my top 5: 5: Pythos mask by Emily short. This I loved for the conversation, and the fact that all the so called puzzles in the game just involved talking to the right characte
 rs about things, I never needed a walkthru or a hint everything in the game just flowed from what you found in the environment people told you which is my best recommendation of If. The world was also wonderfully artistic, with each character being distinct, there were even some awsome little side turnings including about 5 different endings each corresponding to a certain character. The reason i rank this 5 and not more highly is firstly its a short game (no puns on the authors name intended), and secondly while there were several endings which it was fun to figure out it was pretty obvious the author had one particular ending in mind sinse all the others ended with one paragraph while one ended with a couple of pages worth,  particularly irritating sinse the ending I wanted most was the romantic happy mariage ending which just ended with so it begins . 4: Wearing the claw by Paul Obrian. Again a short game hence my placing it here, and a much more tradditional If in terms of you being tasked to get rid of an evil wizard, however I can say this one again all the puzzles were wonderfully obvious, particularly sinse you got a little pointer in the right direction should you head off the wrong trakc. I also liked the fact that towards the end you have an npc who can freely identify items which was fun. 3: Lash by Paul Obrian. This one I did need the hints for because it is a big and rather complex game, and has a number of side turnings and puzzles, heck there are some puzzles I didnt solve myself. what I liked however was the fact that though the game started as sort of a post appocalyptic treasurehunt, it soon became something else, something quite historical and fun. I also loved the way the second person interface was made part of the game by suggesting you write commands to an intelligent robot, thi
 s also carried on the theme of slavery in the game. There were also some scenes that frankly made me cringe as well in this one, which you probably would regard as good or bad depending upon your sensabilities. 2: Dreamhold by Andrew Plotkin. I probably rank this one a little highly because it was the first propper full length if game I ever finished, also as a basic intro to if it has a lot of hints and logical puzzles. That being said, the setting, writing and puzzles to explore were lovely, I particularly liked the plot and backstory surrounding the game and the fact that playing an amnesiac wizard was made part of the plot, especially via little scenes you can interact with. I nearly added the game Babel by Ian Finlley to this list which seems very enspired by Dreamhold, amnesiac discovering past, objects you can touch for past scenes, even the climax being to make a potion recipe, but it lost out for a rather generic science love affair plot and a couple of pupzzles wher

This is, like Pythos mask a game which involves a heavy amount of surreal fantasy and story and one which takes place in a society very different from our own, but it also has a main character you really come to respect, or at least I did, for all her society was rather different. I loved the ability to enter objects and explore them psychically, I loved the puzzles, I loved some of the random tasks you could do in the game and the way that the games central environment only changed slightly throughout what was going on, apart from one trip elsewhere which has huge significance. People complained in the reviews of this one about the puzzles, but to be honest I found them all fairly easy going by experimentation and working out the environment, albeit you need to rather get behind a lot of the society and how the world works. my only miner d

Hi Kamochek.We cant give you a code for version 1.0 because the keys for all gma games are spacific to each computer. Its an unusual request but I think if you email gma games they could probably give you a key to version 1.0 since the process for getting product keys didnt change when version 1.2 came out. I dont know why youd want version 1.0 since compared to 1.2 its not that good. Hi Kamochek.Yes bgt is your best option. Even if you were able to get a copy of the gma engine Im sure you would have to pay for it. Apparently you can buy it but I dont know why youd want to especially since theres no demo of it and a new version is being written. Just try bgt as pelantas and scottf said if you just sit down and learn through the totorials and practice youd be surprised how easy it really is. I dont know what you guys have against Davids games. To me personally, although I have never purchased it (or used a pirated copy, as a matter of fact, Ive always played it just when I was visiting a friend), Shades of Doom as well as GMA Tank Commander are one of the most interesting, immersive and especially replayable audiogames released until this day. Sure, the audio quality could be better, although GTC is better than SOD in this regard, but these two games have a very friendly interface and just incredibly atmospheric gameplay, at least in my opinion. If the game has good gameplay, I am willing to forgive the arguablybad audio to a certain great extent and even forgetabout it altogether in some cases. I dont need perfectly modern, realistic and fancy huge explosions, blood spurts and I dont know what else to be able to imagine the creepy, gloomy, chilling atmosphere of the base where the game takes place. And SOD is certainly the one game that 
 makes the best and most extensive use of audio landmarks of allthe games Ive tried so far, at least off the top of my head. However, I certainly agree that even this could be done in a much better way in todays, lets say modern audiogames, and I would definitely love to see it in action. I also agree that Swamp is somewhat lacking in this aspect.I am definitely looking forward to the update though, and judging by what we saw in Time of Conflict 2.0, although not everyone is probably able to appreciate that, I think the list of changes is going to be pretty huge and impressive this time.Im not exactly sure what Seal meant by coordinate games either. Every FPS and sidescroller, and for the most part any action game that uses real-time movement, be it an audio or video game, uses coordinates, even if just internally. I think he was refering to games that do not expose this information to the player, those games where you have to rely only on auditor
 y and other cues to judge your current position in relation to the rest of the objects in the game world. As far as I can tell, the only game that has come as close to this as is possible in an audiogame until now is Perilous Hearts. A little digression, seeing this completed and released one day would be one of the best events that could ever happen to the audiogaming market. Even though this game is technically a sidescroller with only two dimensions, at least it does have true vertical movement along the y axis as well, or, speaking in terms of 3D games, Perilous Hearts actually has thex and z axes. Three-D Velocity and Lone Wolf are different in that they offer true 3D movement but they also provide many navigational aids and use only 2D audio as well.And last but not least, I know we all see what we want, and everyone is perfectly capable of talking about their imaginations and wishes very passionately, but can anyone of the posters in this topic actually go ahead and im
 plement these fabulous ideas in reality? I think only the programmers among us can truly appreciate the difficulty of implementing complex and realistic 3D audioin practice. I tend to believe that the most friendly solution to this that seems to be coming along slowly but nicely is Camlorn Audio. Hi Terminator.Well Ill just say read the manual. I agree it could be expanded a lot more to help beginners but it shouldnt be hard if you read the manual and practice at the same time. There are topics in the manual where it says if you dont understand a concept to practice it until you do then go on reading. You should do exactly that. Bgt is not difficult to work with once you get the hang of it but it is difficult to start out. As you learn you can ask people for small peaces of code to show you how to do something. The way I learn is when I want my program to do a spacific thing I try to write it out the way I think it should be and if the code comes out wrong I play with it until Ive got it right. Hi Ghost Rider.Okay sit back this is going to be a long post. First of all it is stupid for somebody to call you stupid just because they thought they were right so that makes them the stupid one so dont take it to heart. You might have been hurt when you were called stupid but people will do that sometimes when they are in the wrong. I have to tell you Ive been called worse and it doesnt bother me because I wont let it. For example when I was in high school I used to have to take the bus to school and then back home. On the ride home there was this girl that used to bother me. She would say hi nerd when she got on then when she got off she would say bye nerd. The first couple of times this happened I was really upset by it. But after a while it happened so often that I was able to shut her out completely.Now let me tell you something that Ive learned over the years. I do not believe that there are stupid people in the world. Even the most
  uninformed uneducated people are smart in there own way. For example both of my grandfathers grew up during the depression. My grandfather on my mothers side had to leave school to help his family. He never had a traditional education but he loved to read and was very intelligent despite his lack of education.My paternal grandfather worked in construction his entire life and so did my father. My father never really enjoyed school but he has worked construction for years and is very good at what he does.Basically what Im trying to say with all this rambling is that you are not stupid because I do not believe stupidity exists. Other people might disagree with me but this is what I believe. So just remember when somebody says something like that to you dont give it a second thought. I use a Mac, and I wondered if there was a way to restart my Windows computer with an external start up disc. Just the other day, I discovered that you could restart your Mac with another hard drive from that Mac with a disc enclosure. So if I could use that Macs hard drive and told my windows computer to start up with that hard drive, would it work? Does VLC work with Mac? And, When it run up the volume in Quick Time and Hit play, nothing happens. Its like it doesnt want to play or anything.  loration of the environment, no actual problem-solving is needed. But when this author does do puzzles, he gets it right. The Earth And Sky series of games is some of the best in superhero gaming. Blue Lacuna: Unfortunately, youre going to have to adjust your screen readers settings to play this. All of the words you can type are indicated in various colours. But once you have report colour changes turned on, this is a well-written game, that even has the ability to adapt itself to your style of play. If you are one of the disappointingly legion parser haters, the pretty colours mean this is a game even you can enjoy. A Mind Forever Voyaging: one of the later Infocom games, so you might find it a little hard to get your hands on. But it was the first work of interactive fiction I ever played, so I will always have a soft spot for it. The Frenetic Five vs. Sturm und Drang: I spent hours hacking away at t
 his, because this game is hard! But not hard in a good way. It has puzzles that are obviously only there to force you to make use of the abilities of your team, some guess the verb problems, and if you dont grab one or two particular objects when they become available, the game can be made unwinnable. Thats what God made save files for, though. But never the less, I loved it. The NPCs felt alive, the writing was funny, and it felt far more comic-like to me than anything I had played previously. So I wouldnt rate it as one of the best games Ive ever played, but it was one of the most memorable. Chicks Dig Jerks: On the theme of memorable games, If you play this game, you will never, ever forget it. I promise! You will never forget the horrible Chauvinism, or the awful grave robbing scene, or the strange sex. For the rest of your life, you will remember the bug that forces you to plod through the sex scene a seco
 nd time. So if you want to make memories that will last a lifetime...these are not the memories you are looking for. If I talk about all of the interactive fiction I remember clearly, this post will never end. So, to shorten things, other games I have strong good memories of include: Dutch Dapper IV, Babel, Delusions, Ad Verbum, The PK Girl, Trapped in a One-Room Dilly, Dangerous Curves, YAGWAD, Tookies Song, Adventure, A Moment Of Hope, and Til Death Makes A Monk-Fish Out Of Me. Other games I have strong terrible memories of are: Travels in the Land of Erden, Sophies Adventure, Stick It To The Man, BOFH, and Stupid Kittens. Well I hope people enjoyed the podcast. I must admit Im getting very addicted to smugglers 5 invasion, its currently just after four in the morning and Im engaged in trying to get a battleship! which is quite an involved process, but well worth it, or at least I hope so. Hi Kamochek.Well I didnt have the full version 1.0 but from what I played it wasnt that much different from 1.2. I had the full version 1.2 and that was 10 times better. Like I said email gma games and ask to purchase a key. If you have the demo version of 1.0 then all you need is the user code. I am looking at the multiplayer server list at the moment. I see 3 servers up, aside from the default.Two of these are closed or behind firewalls. The other... Im not sure how to join a game. When I select this server, it lists my name and a second users name, followed by a multiplayer session, map name and a timestamp. You cant join a game that has already started. To create a new game, choose start game, the map, then the speed that you wand. Then if there are people who are on but not in a game you can invite you can invite them.@Aaron: how do you check the current speed of the game? Aprone, I seriously think the crash map feature should be disabled until the next version. I just spent 30 min walking 100 tiles and used 25 med kits. To be truthful this does nothing but ruin the game. I still didnt find the truck so I give up. That map with a broken leg is a complete waste of time. Could you plese get me off of that map?
