Re: Curiosity about Japanese Games

Seal and CAE have basically said everythig that has to be said. So Ill just echo their sentiments. Some people consider having to unscramble Google translations as a chore, but I think its quite doable even if you dont know the language... I speak fairly good Japanese which is why I dont usually have too much trouble. But if you liked paladin of the sky, then all the Japanese games are definitely worth having. Specifically, the Bokurano Daibouken series aka BK 1, 2 and 3, and Shadow Rine. Those four games are probably my top favorites, which all pretty much back up your criteria. lol Shadow Rine also backs the whole thing up with some beautiful music ranging from heart wrenching to epically ominous, and while the bosses are not that complicated, each one has enough differences to make them challenging and the game has a not-too-complicated, but very satisfying story, at least in my opinion. The rpgs from morokuma are good, but theyre more akin to cons
ole-based rpgs from the early 90s which were more menu driven and choice-based, but which still have good sound. But everything is done in turns and list boxes rather than ful 3d movement. But my personal recommendations are all the BK games and Shaadow Rine. Thatll keep you occupied a good long while... and if you need help or want to know more feel free to let me know.

Hi Tom. I dont think recriminations or chewing over the past multiple times will help too much here sinse we can debate the whys and wherefores of what did or did not get developed endlessly. All that being said, Im rather concerned with your decision to still work on raceway and what will be effectively montizumas return, not because I dont want to see those games finished or similar, but because Im not convinced on your own inthusiasm for the projects. Youve been hammering away at both in one form or another for goodness knows how many years now, and maintaining any interest in such is not easy (heck, believe me Ive been trying to complete a doctorate for 7 years). Because of your life circumstances being difficult, and programming not being easy, I do wonder if perhaps you should considder a project you could really get enthusiastic behin
 d. For example, earlier this year when we were talking about game mechanics you mentioned developing a port of another 80s atari game such as asteroids or berzerk, but with similar mechanics. Im not saying do that! but I do remember how interested in the idea you got, particularly with replicating game mechanics in audio in as addictive a form as the graphical versions. Sorry Ive got to run now so dont have time for a longer post, but such is my thought.

No, the wiki wouldnt be around the game itself. It basicly would be anything in the death match universe, be it your favorite spacecraft, planet, etc. I plan to finish off the story for death match project alpha in beta 4, and then focus on bug fixes and adding new things. But the games already quite long, last I checked it took me 2 hours to beat it, and thats with only dieing a few times. Personally I do think the series is worthy of a wiki.

Why do you expect it all should be free? If you want it free, screw those interfaces and scripts, and just use skype and Facebook without those! If I can do it, you can also learn to use it. Yes, I have complained the hell out of facebook a while ago, but they have really made a lot of awesome changes, and now, Facebook has become mostly totally usable! So, if you want it for free, then please catch up and drop those interfaces!

Im with Dark here. While your plan might work (I stress might), you have been envisioning grand plans for both of those games for a long long time, and it would be very difficult to create super simple games bearing those titles. The temptation would be to, just add 1 of the features youve thought about for years. Now 1 more, and 1 more. Pretty soon youre back to working on a larger scale project that gets hung up again. The titles Mysteries of the Ancients, and USA Raceway carry a lot of designers baggage, that you wouldnt have if you started on something new.Your post talked about the ups and downs as you switched languages and searched for the right API to build with, and this really makes me want to bring up my own philosophy for making games. For many years I have been saying this to people looking to develop a game. Build the game with what you already know. When you decide to create a
game, that is not the time to try to learn something new. While planning out a game you wish to create, plan out its construction using only the things you can already do (and do well). If you have no idea how to handle multiplayer (just an example), then dont plan out making a multiplayer game. If you have no idea how to add fancy echoing effects to your sounds, then dont include that as part of the game youre wanting to make. If we violate this rule, we can all sit and imagine the most amazing mind-blowing game that could ever exist. Anyone could! Holding an imagined game concept in your mind doesnt count for anything... what matters is what will actually exist.By limiting yourself to only what you currently know, you never have to go looking for new sound libraries or languages to make a game work. If the sound library you are using at this moment wont be supported down the road, who cares? Use
it anyway, because you know how to use it, it is already right here in front of you, and it does what it is supposed to do. Build the games of next year, next year, not today. Chasing what Will be cutting edge tomorrow is a losing battle. When you want to learn some new coding thingy, do it simply for the joy of learning something new, with no actual need for it. Later when starting on a new project you will have this new knowledge to use in the design, but when done in this order everything flows nicely. This is an approach to game design that you have very much disagreed with in the past, but it seems like a good time to at least run it past you again. Lots of people have thought I was crazy for doing things this way, but it results in insanely fast development times. I never get hung up trying to figure out how in the world Ill make feature X work, because if I didnt already know, I wouldnt have had it in my

When I had no idea how to make a screen reader read text, I just self voiced stuff. Before I knew how to pan sounds (in my sighted games I never really used sound) I just made games that had no need for sound panning. Same for adjusting sound volumes. When I didnt know how to add JAWS support, screw Jaws, my games just didnt support it. When I was between games I would experiment, do a little reading, and figure out new stuff I could use down the road. Is BK more of a side-scroller or what? As I said, I like honest-to-god exploration, and a more sci-fi run-and-gun side-scroller probably isnt my thing.Listened to some of your Shadow Line lets play, and youre right...lovely music, and while Im not quite sure how spatial orientation and movement work in that game, it sounds like just my thing. Fairly hard, but not completely unforgiving (unforgiving would be instant death when you fell in a pit). This actually reminds me of Zelda, with much less item usage and much more character usage. Nothing horribly complex, but a world to get lost in. I know no Japanese whatsoever aside from a couple of basic phrases, so Id definitely have to use translation. Ive never played with NVDA before though, so perhaps this is my cue.

Re: Curiosity about Japanese Games

BK mixes it up a bit; the first game is an exploration RPG (keep in mind that navigation is trickier there; there was a while when it first came out when a lot of people couldnt find their way out of the house, but once you get going its fine); BK2 is more a fairly linear sidescroller (there are a few areas that subvert this, and there are secrets and puzzles throughout, but its mostly light on the exploration).BK3 combines all of this and some more navigation accessibility, and we have a 2D platformer where exploration and secrets are more involved, challenges get more complicated, and there are even levels in which you pilot an aircraft (I think that eventually these can get you to hidden places? I only made it to 14-4 and my save somehow got deleted, so everything after that is unknown to me.)

Okay, so Im just past the comedian fight in the helium lounge on my hard playthrough, and...uh, if anything, Im having an easier time than I did on normal. This is in part because of the extra two dice, but Im not finding that bosses hit any harder or anything. I might have been one or two levels higher when I fought the expert kidnapper, ditto the security guards in Berts Palace, but Bert himself was a piece of cake with Cecil at level 14, and all the other bosses seemed about the same. The otherworldly creature in the sanctuary might have hit just a little harder, but Maggie died in exactly three rounds. to Gabriel! No lie.Im guessing stuff is going to start getting harder later on? Because so far Im not noticing much difference.

Re: Site updates August 13th

Hi Tom.Maybe you should contact the Italian company and ask them how they make cross platform games? Im totally amazed how quickly they are able to make games. They have an awesome spaceship game in development which should be released this month, and Inquisitor adventure 3 for next month or in a few months. All their games are cross platform, works on Mac and Windows. Im not sure about Linux, and most of their games are also out for IOS. I have no idea on how they are making games that fast!regarding to my idea on making a game which others can expand, here are some other thoughts:Make an engine which have a map editor so people can make maps pretty easily. I dont know how complex it is to make this.Make a very simple scripting system like in Tactical battle, where people like me who nearly have given up on learning programming can learn to write things from scratch, in a simple text file.Make the possibility for others to co
de scripts, so they can make even more features in the game. One example is from Tactical battle. People wanted a feature where you could mount horses or other transportations. Well, someone just made an awesome script and made this awesome feature! In this way, you could make a very awesome game engine with endless features which people with different skills could keep working on if they feel like doing it. It might have some limitations, I dont know, but it would be awesome! Then, an online system could be designed, so people could upload their stuff, so you dont have to put lots of work into uploading stuff to a website.I have no idea on how much work it would take to make all this, but I could imagine it would require much less work than writing a big game from scratch.

Re: Curiosity about Japanese Games

Jade, if exploration is more your thing, then Shadow Rine would definitely be more your cup of tea since the world is much bigger. BK 1 is more exploration-heavy, as cae said, but I wouldnt necessarily say that BK 2 and 3 are just run and gun action games... BK 3 especially has some backtracking and some of the most challenging puzzles Ive ever seen in an audio game. SR is definitely more along the lines of Zelda games, with less complicated combat. And items are actually quite involved, especially at higher difficulties. The difference is that items are pretty passive in this game, meaning you collect them and the effect is automatically applied, since most of it is health recovery, health boosts, attack boosts and increases for your special skill points. Im still working on my lets play, but this summer has kept me so swamped I havent been able to continue for a bit. Planning to in the next week or so, hopefully.

2014-08-19 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Development room : camlorn via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Web development?

Yes, exactly. Except that the lengths of the corridors and whether they turn is considered unimportant. The only information youre interested in is that two intersections are connected by a corridor. In the most basic setup, nothing else is kept. And just that is enough to write a program that can solve the maze. Going further, you can actually represent really strange things as graphs, for example an in-progress checkers game, but thats a whole second discussion about AI programming and Im by no means an expert. I really should post my 15-puzzle solver one of these days.A Wysiwyg engine of sufficient complexity to actually do something at all has to have scripting. The problem is that, for those of us who know how one might go about doing it, its pointless to actually do it. We can already make whatever we want without such things. I kinda started down that road with audiogame_engine, at least as
far as the basic windowing and state transition stuff, but that doesnt even have talking menus yet. Nor will it be Wysiwyg-the point is to provide the smaller pieces that everyone duplicates themselves for everything, not to be a side-scroller or what have you. These engines cant come in two versions, and thats why Audiogame Engine (written in flash, if I recall correctly) failed. It tried to be so ridiculously nontechnical that actually doing anything complex was impossible. I said this back when I was using it in early high school and barely handling 50-lline programs; Id probably have much worse things to say now.Since this is already spiraling way, way off topic and I cant actually make it much worse, Im going to try to explain Libaudioverse a bit without using the word graph. I get the feeling my comments were misunderstood to some extent.Basically, its like having boxes and wires. You can
hook the input side of any box to the output side of any other box with a wire. Because were using special magical sockets, you can hook as many inputs from as many different boxes as you like to the same output--this allows feeding sources with the same file and controlling them all by controlling the playback time and speed of the file. The 3d simulation mostly hides this, save that a source is an object with one input that needs to be hooked to something--this enables doing things like making wind synthesizers or piping midi messages into your game world. But if you want, you can drop down and use the low-level pieces directly and make media players, for example. One of the C examples, as of yet not ported to Python because of laziness, does exactly this. A full command line media player in exactly 75 lines of C (dont you hate license comments, the 10-line macro thats needed because C doesnt have exceptions, and the inc
ludes?). I keep managing to get distracted by the fact that school started this week, already missed the promised date for releasing the preview, and consequently kind of want to port it so that its there in Python before I do anything. It shows off every feature of Libaudioverse save array properties, which are only used in one place anyway (speaker maps for the n-channel amplitude pannere).

Re: Curiosity about Japanese Games

Hi,[[wow]]. Guys, this post calls for a litle story of sorts, so bare with me please. But lets just say, I like these games a lot. Heres what happened for me last year:Honestly, last year in the audiogame scene, specifically winter, was, to put it in one word, insane, and in a very good way. Wed had many ChoiceScript games by this point, but not many Audiogames were here, come October. Then it all went nuts.BK3s build up was rediculous. Everyone was on about it, not much was really happening, no info, people kept asking.October 6, 2013 8 pm or so: Im on Teamtalk with forumight pitermach and a few others, and they tell me that a trailer got released. They gave me a link, I listened, and my excitement was there. Those who know me, probably have seen me go hyper when I get excited. Well it was like that. I was going nuts, reminising, talking about it, then all of a sudden I started to translate Yukios tweets.Imagine my
shock when I saw a date in one of the tweets. October 7. I was thinking to myself, oh my gosh, how can I sleep? the date was the day after the trailer was released.Well next day, I got up, went back to Teamtalk, and low and behold, it had happened. It had actually happened. I got very excited, robjoy had to carm me down by playing the bk3 menu music while I was waiting for my download, to distract me and also get me even more in the mood.A 400 mb download too, I think this is the largest Audiogame weve had in our history, accept perhaps Swamp, but even that grew over time. This was 400 mb right off the bat, which was unheard of in the Audiogame market, unless theres one that Im forgetting? So, everything was cool. We played that for quite some time, I was waiting for Papa Sangre II. Well, that cdame to the iOS scene a few weeks later. Then November came and someone discovered some sort of new update to Shadow Rine was on the way. And, here we
go again. I got really quite excited, kept listening to the stuff.December came and the trial for the fullvoice edition got released on the fourth. I played through that, even bringing a sighted person along for the ride at least for a while until they had to go. I beat it later that day.Christmas came and went, exciting time as ever. First thing I got was the update to tdv 2, and the frozen soundtrack, but I digress.I cant say I know the date when this happened, but I come onto the PC one day in 2014 and see a post in the old shadowrine topic from the developer, who until now hadnt shown up on this forum.I thought aah, this is nice, hes gonna say thank you and such. Well imagine my surprise when it was actually a full blown announcement of the fullvoice editions release, and I then took it upon myself to create a separate topic.Again, this one was around 380 mb in size.Im now left wondering, what will be next? Palad
in was great, but I also hope that something from the japanese devs will be coming this year, or whether itll be 2015 when we see something new.

Heroes, mages, priests and devils!

2014-08-19 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — AG-News room : aaron via Audiogames-reflector

Heroes, mages, priests and devils!

We have no less than four new games to report this time.It seems like the folks at Choice of Games (see database entry) have been at it again in full force with, it seems, no chance of slowing down anytime soon, and all four of these new adventures are from this one company! The first, Heroes Rise: HeroFall, is the conclusion of the heroes rise trilogy, and involves you going on one final mission to save not only Millenia City, but possibly the hole world or at least the futuristic United States. As to who this threat is, well, youll have to play to find out. Its recommended that you play Heroes Rise: The Prodigy and Heroes Rise: The Hero Project, as you can load stats from previous games and play the hole series as one hero. However, you can also dive into each game separately as well, as they feature previously on sections for new players. Even if you load your saved games, itl
l refresh you on what your character has done so you dont forget. The Heroes Rise games can all be found on the regular Choice of Games label. These next three games can all be found in the user-contributed games section, or by searching for Hosted Games on mobile devices. The first, Life of a Mobster, is created by the author of Life of a Wizard. It is set in the criminal underworld. Will you betray the mob, rule the city, or even become part of the FBI?The second, Fatehaven, sees you discover that you are a Mage, and you get caught up in a plot that youd rather not be part of.Last but not least, we have Path of Light. Become a priest, or cleric, if you will, and help heal and let villagers confess, and go on missions to smite or at least hinder dark creatures with the help of your soulmate. You might want to stay tuned to the Choice of Games blog, where they will announce new games as they
 become available.Happy adventuring!

Re: Vocaloid with JAWS?

I didnt know there was a difference in the lyrical arrangement of Scarborough Fair. What differs between the one that has been originally passed down and the one that has been modified? Yeah, the Vocaloid III voices have setups that can let you hear the language to which they sing, but the II ones dont. The Vocaloid I voices seem to be gone, as they are no longer available. Olivers voice is based off of a twelve or thirteen-year-old choirboy. Oliver isnt his real name though. Theres a Vocaloid Wiki that you could probably find more information on. Ive been interested to get Flinger which was used to sing Fraire Jacque, but I dont know what one will need.

Re: Mud Quests Help Topic

From a guy whos been playing on and off for three years, part of the greatness of alter for me is that there arent very many quest guides out there, actually. Some of the fun lies in the frustration of having to figure things out, of having to get your hands dirty, dying a few times, losing some experience and slapping yourself silly for having done something you probably knew ahead of time you shouldnt have done but did anyway, and being able to laugh about it later. One of the dumbest things I did was try to breeze through a level 28 area because Im a powerful necromancer that can do anything and to the wolves with you if you dont believe me, because I have all these great minnions and an awesome tank and power and glory and shut up! The end result is that I got hit twice, very hard, by things my tank didnt protect me from because it couldnt get there fast enough, though I doubt it would have made much of a difference a
t any rate, given that necros are physically weak anyway, so getting hit at level 27 when your constitution is not exactly something youve been focusing on is a nightmare. The end result is that I lost close to a million XP, and to add insult to injury, my undead crew were all unharmed, and I had to sheepishly admit to myself that I probably know at least one 5 year old kid who wouldnt have done what I did. Thats still nothing though; I went into an area where I knew there was a killer mob with the ability to backstab for somewhere in between the 500 and 700 hitpoint range without armor, without a sanctuary spell, or anything else that truly provided any sort of protection. Did I survive? figure it out for yourself. There are a bunch of great players, but I doubt even they ever truly learn the ropes in a way that says Theres nothing left for me to rediscover. Every time I see level 36 players die, Im
reminded anew that this game is never truly won, never truly over, because Dentin. I blame him for the insanity Ive suffered and the sleepless nights of wondering if I went wrong once again and I should restart my char and focus on something else. I finally said whatever and progressed onward, figuring that if I messed up one more time, its part of life; you cant win em all.

@Chris,There are some you cant get anymore, like the watch. The watch is a bitch to get. You have to search all the cabins for a guy who gets mad and attacks you. Defeating him gets you the antique watch.Unfortunately I think at the point youre at, all the people have left their cabins. You cant obtain the coffee mug (ships control room), or the useless litter (the dining room where you had breakfast) anymore either. There is a treasure you missed in the drug hideout, four in lower chamber 4, one in the dinner time restaurant and the gateway and helium lounges. You might also have another character whos already equipped to take out the director as well.

These engines cant come in two versions, and thats why Audiogame Maker (written in flash, if I recall correctly) failed.
A full command line media player in exactly 75 lines of C (dont you hate license comments, the 10-line macro thats needed because C doesnt have exceptions, and the incl
udes?).

[...]/files/dark room (keyboard version).jar is the file to run.Sometimes, Windows messes with capitalization with java files, and that can break them (it does more often than not, using winzip, from what I can tell). You should run jarfiles with java or javaw. If installing Java didnt create the association, you may have to set this up manually. If you arent use to this sort of thing, it will probably be a little frustrating.

Re: Pure basic: has anyone ever heard of, or used it?

For most things there is python 2.x and 3.x.Most everything is running 2.x and there is most support for 2.x. 3.x is supported by most things now though, it is just a little more difficult to find tutorials for. The difference between the two is very small. Python 3.x has a few more advanced packages that have been created for it and it has some more concise syntaxinput(prompt)rather thanraw_input(prompt)and there is better support for more advanced operations, but Ive never hit the 2.7 limits and 3.x has not become worth the trouble to convert yet (although it is almost to that point). If you are willing to work with an evolving language, use 3.x, but if not, just use 2.7.8. Here is an FAQ on the differencesThere is also full unicode support in 3.x, so people whos languages are not in ascii
can write in their own language. That was the main reason for the change. Most 2.7 stuff will run on 3.x, but 3.x will not run on 2.x.

Re: Gwconnect's Dead. Thanks a ton, Window Eyes.

Problem, is the samnet socializer is not free, so yet again another facebook client thats paid! And I feel we have valid reasons to complain about socialize. Skype users can use skype talking just fine, I find it better anyway. But social eyes is yet another typical blindy ghetto scam, as is usually the case with products like screen readers. If facebook is free, then why should blind users have to pay? Sure, yu can get some accessibility under things like m.facebook.com, but those sites arent as fully featured as the full fb site. Call this overreacting, but me being a person to stand up to anything I am officially starting a complaint move. I will contact facebook and ask them to change the guidelines for paid clients. If the developer s want to make paid clients. There must be a free, trimmed down version or full version could be like a premium version with some extras, but the free version at least has the core functionality out of the network. If they fail to comp
ly with this, we will give you a warning, and if it happens again you shal pay a fine! Got it? Good! I hope they agree with me on that because these blindy ghetto scams are getting worse by the generation! If this plan goes how it should, sure, I might be hated by gw squared, but I dont care, itll be a good thing for the people I know that would like to have free fb accessibility!

Re: Curiosity about Japanese Games

Hmm, all right. The one main criteria Im after is quick translation. I dont want to be left guessing, and a quick keystroke to grab/translate dialogue or item stuff would be great.Incidentally, in Assault Freaks lets play I hear the main voice in the game, I hear a Japanese synth and then I hear an English synth...and a really hard-to-understand one, at that. As such, Im curious: is there any way to bypass the Japanese synth itself? I dont mind hearing voice-over stuff, its unavoidable I suppose, but I dont really want to hear more Japanese than I have to. I have nothing against the language, but hearing more speech might distract/annoy me more than it may be worth.Whats more: isnt there a way to get Eloquence onto NVDA? If so, Id really like to do that, since I prefer Eloquence over that horrid voice so many people favour when using NVDA. I know that latter is off-topic, but still.Als
o, Im sorry for all my questions and specs and whatnot. Shadow Line in particular ssonds like a game Id freaking love. When one of you gets a minute and can explain how sounds work in that game, Id appreciate it.For instance, in Assault Freaks LP, I notice that in boss fights he gets hit a hell of a lot. Every time hes close enough to the boss to hit it, the boss seems to be able to hit him. Its not as if the bosses attack slowly enough for you to hit and run, not really. I mean, he nearly died to the bat, and thats the first really big boss in the game. Does the game take into account which part of a large boss youre hitting, so you can, say, hit a dragons tail while its head, fairly far away from you, is shooting fire? Do attacks that have a range (llike lightning bolts or fireballs) pan in one direction or another so you can dodge on the fly?I ask all of this because at times, it seems like Shadow Line is sort of a
button-mash fest. hit the monster enough before it hits you, its down to luck. That being the case, I imagine therell be stuff later that gets downright vicious.

Re: Paladin of the Sky, new full length audio game RPG

FairlybigspoilersaheadHeres the thing with jason. Either slam him with physical attacks (probably a bad idea), or pick someone with two separate scrolls you can cast accurately. This person should also have an Embodiment type scroll, so Simons out, sorry. The second boss will two-shot Simon, and this is true of a couple of other bosses in the later area as well. I...dont know why.Anyway, heres what goes on. Hit Jason with first one spell, then the other. Do not screw up. And whatever you do, dont use the same spell twice in a row. Screwing up, on its own, just means you have less margin for error; if you ever hit Jasons immunity (as in, use the same spell twice), get ready for the lightning or poison. If either of those happens, youre probably dead.I personally like Shawna for this. Embodiment of Selflessness is probably the easiest Embodiment scroll to cast, and shes got another spell, Giga Cande
lla, or whatever its called, thats not too hard either. When you bring Jason to below 60 percent health, the possessed child attacks. Hes weak to your Embodiment scrolls, and doesnt hit viciously hard. I think he can stun, but its rare and only lasts a round or two. Think of it like that director fight from way earlier, minus the weird mechanic where you have to counter his big attack with a random scroll. Anyway, just plug away until the boss dies. Its tricky, but not impossible. If youre fairly well-prepared, doing this boss at level 75-80 should be possible, but youd better be hellishly accurate and youd better have a lot of upgrades from the statistics shop.spoilersendJust beat Gruff with Gabriel. I think Gruff hits harder than I remember, but with the ability to use potions that battle is still a joke. All of my characters are in the level 24-28 range (Ross is currently highest but only because I ove
rprepared for the fight with the comedian and wallopped him righteously. The ghost died in four hits from Shawna. Im hoping Jason is a bit more of a challenge.

2014-08-19 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : assault_freak via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Curiosity about Japanese Games

First, to your synthesizer question. Quick translation doesnt depend on the game youre playing, thats a thing from NVDA... all the game does is output the text to the clipboard which allows you to translate on the fly rather than having to manually do it yourself. The keystroke for translation is in NVDA itself and is configurable. For anything related to that, check bladestorms guide. the reason you were hearing a blend of voiceacting and tts was me trying to translate things and relistening to certain dialog. However, when using the clipboard, I also have to press the any of the arrow keys to actually copy the text to the clipboard, kind of like a subtitle under the voice track. But yes, if you dont want to hear the double Japanese, you can indeed use eloquence and just translate the clipboard text into English, though if it accidentally reads Japanese text all you will get is a bunch of nonsense characters since thats how eloquence processes
foreign text. Now for the game itself... the reason I got hit so many times by that first boss is because its a small area, and it really does require a lot of concentration to not constantly fall off the edge of the platform. It might help if I describe the area Im fighting on... were in the ruins of some sort of building in the forest... so I picture it as a floor thats caved in in several different places near the walls, which just happen to be along all four edges. Its a small space, and that boss moves very fast, with all close range attacks. And the problem is at the moment, your character is barely starting out and doesnt have much reach or power in his sword, so it can be hard to hit the thing while keeping it out of range. At that point youre supposed to switch between the two characters you have at your disposal, with the fairy who moves quite a bit faster and can dodge around the boss to run and grab health items or to get s
ome breathing room. But part of the overall problem is just that I suck at doing that... especially while having to commentate at the same time.yes, later bossess projectile attacks do in fact pan in a certain direction so you can step out of the way. The game doesnt take into account which part youre hitting, at least not as specifically as youre mentioning... but it is indeed possible to run behind a boss and hit it while its back is turned. Some bosses AI actually get stuck doing that... so theyll keep attacking in one direction and you can just slash away at their backs until they die or until you move into their line of sight. But in SR, especially during boss fights, smart movement is more important than hitting a precise target especially those who take off a lot of health. While the strategy for all the bosses is generally the same... run around and look for opportunities to hit them, its not as button mashy as it sounds... si
nce if you get in too close and mash away youll get pummeled by the boss just as much as theyre getting hurt by you. And each character also has one specific character technique they can do with a weapon, and those are important to your strategy as well save for Lilia who doesnt have any sort of attack. But the upside to her is... hher jumps can now avoid enemy attacks. And in the developers words... that broadens the strategic value a lot.

You can not declare functions that are equal to an integer variable that way.The problematic code:int x=anumbers(int first, int second)A function call works like this. The function is called. You pass parameters to it, like your first and second example above. The function evaluates whatever, then, unless its a void, returns anything you want.int x=anumbers(int first, int second)The problem with this code is that int x will declare a variable to the left of the equals sign. So what that lines signifies is that your declaring a variable which will be equalled to the output of a function that doesnt exist yet.The correct code:int anumbers(int first, int second)This just declares a function with the return type being integer.

Re: Site updates August 13th

Dark, I do see where you are coming from, and I dont really blame you for feeling the way you do. However, I dont think you see where I am coming from here.Yes, in certain respects I am sick to death of Mysteries of the Ancients and Raceway, but that is more to do with what they have become not what they could be. To explain I am upset with Raceway because I tried to create a cross-platform version of Nascar Thunder, clearly too much to do, and I think I could be quite satisfied and comfortable with writing a simple racing game like Poll Position. I am sick of Mysteries of the Ancients for similar reasons. I tried to write a clone of Tomb Raider, make it cross-platform, etc and Im tired of the Tomb Raider clone idea. If I went back to a simple 2d side-scroller like Montezumas Revenge I would be more than satisfied with that, and could get excited about that. Especially, if I started over with a new storyline, new sounds, new music, etc and it would e
ssentially be a new game but with the same name. Finally, there is another aspect to those games why I will not let them go. I paid money for both of those games. I preordered them, and want my money back or the games. Getting my money back is an impossibility so I want the games I paid for. Even if that means writing the games myself. In addition to the money I lost on the preorders I have spent hundreds on sounds, music, and game libraries. Not to mention the hundreds of man hours working on said games. I want a return on that investment so just quitting is not an option. If I give up on those games, write that time and money off as a loss, then I would have spent all that time and money on nothing. I suppose I can recoup the money I loss over time, but the hours and time I lost can never be recovered. So I might as well get what I bought and paid for.To put this in a university analogy it would be a bit like a man who went to university for several years, was g
oing for his doctorate, and deciding at the last moment not to write his doctoral thesis. Any sane person would ask that man why put all that time and effort into something to just quit when his or her goal was in reach. All he had to do was write and turn his doctoral thesis in, but he up and quit at the eleventh hour.In the same way not completing what I started would be on par with not turning in that doctoral thesis at the eleventh hour. I have literally thousands of lines of code I can reuse on these projects which would speed up the process of writing Raceway and Mysteries of the Ancients. I have purchased sounds and music for both which I can use over since I licensed them legally. I have purchased high quality TTS voices which I was planning on using for the games. It doesnt seem logical to me just to quit after purchasing all that content and spending hundreds of man hours on producing reusable code just to throw it all away for no reason. What you do not under
stand is that a rewrite of these games would not take years to complete. the entire point of writing the Evolution Engine was to have a way to produce games in the matter of a few months, and that is all it would take assuming I had the time to do so.Anyway, thats all I really have to say. Weather one agrees or disagrees with me my mind is made up. I will finish those games, and no sense trying to talk me out of it. What I will do though is go back to more what James North had in mind for the projects and complete them as originally intended. That should be easy enough to do, and wont take long once I get back into development.

So, Jason was a bit harder.slightspoilersI discovered something interesting. Maybe just a bug, maybe randomness, but if you hit his shield once, his damage goes down. Shawna was taking thirty-odd damage a round every time I fought him, and was thus getting outraced to a KO because I often got a red shield. Then, on impulse, I started trying to throw attacks at him on round 1. I failed pretty much every time, but suddenly Jason was doing half the damage he did before, thus making the fight much more manageable. I dont know if this is a hard-only thing, or if its a glitch, or if it exists in both the normal and hard fights and is intended, but it was what got me through.Just fought Mirror Ross. Neither he nor St. Peter were hard at all. The mirror image got me down to about 35 percent of my health, but I pegged every Avenging Spirit and he didnt stand a chance.I do feel like some random enemies got tougher. Sky Soldiers, for instance,
  are no longer free experience.

Re: Curiosity about Japanese Games

So wait. Im a bit unsure of something. Are you saying that if I use NVDA but get the driver that lets NVDA usse the Eloquence voice, Im going to run into problems? Thanks for the info about bosses and movement and such. I was just afraid that if you were in range of hitting a boss, it would also be in range of hitting you, and since they seem to run around attacking rhythmically, the law of averages would suggest youd just run into their flailing more often than not when trying to get in close.

You cant. You have to buy an apartment from the state agency.

Re: Paladin of the Sky, new full length audio game RPG

Hi.I wonder if its even worth looking for any treasures anymore.Anyway, I cant find the ear ring.I looked around the top wall of the dinner time restaurant but cant find anything except tables.Does this disappear like some other treasures? Is it hidden?I dont think its hidden, since I have the ability to hear hidden items thanks to killing all the shadows.
