I think it's something of a "how you learned to type" thing? When I put my hands on the keyboard, my left pinky always winds up on shift instead of A, but I'm pretty sure keyboarding classes have it as "home row, always."The errors I make if I'm in too big a hurry to proofread seem to involve Ts and Ss winding up in the wrong spots, spaces swapped with the last letter of words, and double-capitals at the start of sentences (especially if it starts with a "the" word.). I originally typed the "to" in the first sentence of this post as "ot". Haven't spotted any "hte"s yet. Those things are vicious.So, yeah, I think it's one of those ingrained habit type things.As for jobs? The available jobs compared to the education people are getting are kinda lopsided, and there's this culture clash between the long-time employers and the post-1980 generation, and gah. Suffice it 
 to say, everyone's getting the rough end of it, and being in a sticky place already does us no favors in the rat-race.

As I said I was just going by my observations of the OP's writing. I will point out however that it takes no time at all to capitalize the beginnings of sentences, and I'd hardly call that anything close to APA standards, I'm not sure where that comparison is coming from. The use of proper punctuation is generally taught to a person as they begin to write and should, IMHO, be second-nature. It seems to me like you'd have to make a deliberate effort not to capitalize I.

My biggest and most infuriating gripes are the loss of activities and hotspots in VoiceOver and the glitchy networking which means that one in every ten web page loads simply won't start. I've no doubt there are other issues too, but all I know about them is that I remember seeing them there in El Cap and being relieved when they weren't on Yosemite. Oh yeah, text editing in Safari and the way that web views don't load properly are others; just try opening the App Store to see that one.It's a shame but Apple's attention to detail just isn't there any more and I sincerely wish they'd stop with this creeping featuritis and get back to doing another Snow Leopard: all stability, no new features, and an earnest commitment to making the experience as smooth and delightful as they possibly can. Of course when iOS is selling ten times (and more) more units this is a faint hope. WWDC is nearly upon us and I shall be very interested to see what
  OS X--no, sorry, "macOS"--brings to the table.

Sure but this is also an audio games form. No offence this is not a university paper which I just wrote 2 in the last day, and so many that my head is starting to ache. When I am doing things for leisure you can bet the grammar is not up to par and the spelling for that matter to. Yeesh I hate grammar and spelling. To quote one of my friends. "If spelling was a currency I'd surely starve!" Still you are not likely to see anyone writing an APA formatted form post with citations. You didn't go that far but I'm just saying you can lighten up a bit.

First off, and I'm not trying to sound like a douche here, but your writing is not what I would consider professional quality. Before I go any further I'll say that I may be completely wrong about this and for whatever reason you may choose to write this way on this forum, but from what I've seen of your posts to this board and email lists we're both subscribed to in the past six years it looks like you write like this pretty consistently. If that's not the case feel free to skip past this block of text.The thing that stands out to me the most is your lack of capitalization; you're not capitalizing I (this is very obvious if you're using Eloquence) or proper names. If you look at my last sentence you will see that Eloquence is capitalized, as it should be. Similarly: Braille, Arch, Linux, Spanish, Windows Server. All of these are names of things you've used in your previous posts to this topic, thus they should be capitalized. I'
 ve also noticed you're sometimes not capitalizing the beginnings of your sentences and not ending them correctly, neither do you put commas where they should be. For example, in post 1 you write:"so what do you all think do you think there were more jobs back in the 1980s and before perhaps even into the 1990s yet"?Which should actually look more like this:"so what do you all think? Do you think there were more jobs back in the 1980s and before, perhaps even into the 1990s"?Look at and listen to that sentence, and make note of the changes I've made:1. "So what do you all think"? becomes its own sentence; I capitalized the first word and added a question mark. Having two sentences run together like this looks (and sounds) very unprofessional.2. A comma is added to the end of "before", indicating a pause. Your synth should reflect this now by correctly inflecting the question.3. Get rid of 
 the "yet", no idea what that was for.Pay attention to your synthesizer. Familiarize yourself with the way it speaks and how it reacts to punctuation. Examine the writing you see online every day. You should start to notice what is correct and what is not. I say all this not to try and sound superior (if I do please accept my apologies, improper punctuation and grammar are  pet peeves of mine) but because your style of writing is extremely unprofessional. If I were looking at the applications of prospective IT people to hire, I would immediately reject one that was written this way. This isn't just a consideration for visual readers either; using Eloquence I could immediately detect most of the problems with your writing without having to go back and look, excluding the lack of capitalization at the beginnings of sentences of course, and I have been blind from birth. Good writing is a skill everyone should have, and it becomes increasingly important with hi

You must talk to someone in their disability services office in person and advocate for yourself (god I sound like such a cliche, but it's true), letting them know you need electronic books. If they cannot or will not provide such materials, find a different college. If you have the skill for it, dupe your existing machine onto a backup drive and then try both upgrading and then clean-installing. A lot of reports seem to say that a clean install followed by a NVRAM reset is likely to give you the smoothest experience that can be had with El Crap--er, El Cap.

Hello.I think you mean project alpha dmnb has been gone for a long time. I don't remember the exact directions but just walk right you will find the navigation station it shouldn't be that far away from you you will usually hear a beeping sound when you get closed to something like that. When you get to it press the enter to activate it and continue on with the game.Hth.

OK, my Mac is mid 2012, eight GB of RAM, and a 256 GB SSD.  El Capitan will give you speed improvements if that's what you're looking for, but there are some really annoying bugs that I wish weren't there. It's not bad, but  it's not the most amazing experience I've ever seen on Mac OS.

also i wonder if in the year 2025 when my son is out of school if there will be more jobs? how the economy will be then? i think i can survive being bored for 9 more years. i just wish i could get paid to do what i got certified for, computer desktop repair and maintenance. or should i go the linux route? i'm not a programmer can't do python or c and stuff but i can install talking arch from scratch i did that before awhile back. so if i can install talking arch i should with training be able to admin a linux server. wonder how much that pays? if at all? or is windows server more popular? oh well I'm bored back to watching tv i guess for now.

@dark well I didn't mean that in a strict sense, but we have quite a huge number of games for ios coming out compared to android and windows, accept the ones which already are there since a long time, the recent ones being not so great as the old games were.I recall back in 2011 or so we used to have at least a major windows release almost every 2 months, that too buy main devs like blastbay, tdv, zero site among others. some newly created ones by other forum devs like death match or survive the wild or even arcade ones by oriol etc. are there, but then I don't find them as good as the others back then.also, if there is  a mention about games like tikonblue, psycho strike etc... again they are paid and I don't recall hearing very good opinions about those as well.so looks like more and more people are beginning to prefer playing games on their devices mostly ios and... those running windows may be left with limited options or a need to eventu

i applied for several jobs both work at home and otherwise and have had no luck at all around here. playing games and watching tv everyday can get quite boring. i find it amazing that if a sighted person wants a job whether they are divorced or not they can just go out and get one because sighted folks expect other sighted folks to work. the nfb is so into education and jobs and stuff so why don't we have teachers of visually impaired for college so i don't have to sit at a scanner and scan and scan books for hours on hours in the hopes i will be able to then read the book? i studdied spanish in college and failed. no braille material. in high school i could focus on the work and passing and getting good grades. the braille books were prepared before the schoolyear started. i wish it were the same after you graduate high school, through college and beyond. when the place in louisiana found out about the whole divorce and my wife being so sheltered they decided not to hir
 e me. i don't blame them though. i was required to just take two marriage counseling sessions that was all. it has been nearly five years now. five years of being bored. yes there's moments of fun, going to amusement parts taking my sighted son to local places here in town but i feel i aught to be working. i aught to be doing what other sighted folks do. working. making money. not barely existing on social security. sometimes i think about what it may have been like to work at the place in louisiana what would it be like to make $4 or so maybe more per year? my resume is 5 years out of date. my a plus and network plus computer certifications are expired. no good. i guess if i really wanted more money i could shut off the cable internet and phone. but i can't do that. then i'd be even more bored than i am now. i can reformat and maintain both windows and linux desktops. do all kinds of stuff regarding fixing computers their hardware and OS maintenance. but no 
 job for me. amazing i have all this ability but it just goes to waste oh well.

it seems to me back in the 1980s and even growing up in the 90s more blind people had jobs than they do now. and here in the united states in elementary middle and high school i got equipment like braillers and computers screen readers and a braille embosser, notetakers with braille displays. but they don't tell you after you leave elementary middle school and high school all that goes away. you don't get the teacher of visually impaired to prepare your books for you in college and so i failed college but in college met my wife who is blind, had a kid, her family was real sheltering and i could not deal with that and that broke our relationship most of it anyway. so i had a job with a national industries for the blind partner, lost it due to various legal matters. and now I live on social security in the same small town i grew up in with no job. it seems like when you are blind and you go through the independence training and job training only to have your wife's fa
 mily or anyone for that matter rip it from under you its almost impossible to get back up to job and working status. so what do you all think do you think there were more jobs back in the 1980s and before perhaps even into the 1990s yet? I am really bored sitting at home with hardly any money.

I cloned my Windows 7 set up to another drive, then used that drive to upgrade to Windows 10. Now I have my free Windows 10 product key.I then went back to Windows 7 by reinstalling my SSD.I will eventually upgrade to Windows 10, but as long as this install of Windows 7 keeps working, I'll keep using it.When the time comes that I have to reinstall Windows, I'll upgrade to Windows 10 then.

Hello all,I've been having quite a lot of thought about this lately but definitely did not want to just go ahead and do this without feedback.The amount of audiogames on Steam is slowly increasing. Now, I know steam is not the most accessible of clients to use. It's not about adding every single game, either. It's about adding the games that are fully accessible, with screen reader support. It's the same with some browser games. Back in the day, this website also had a few games listed that were quite hard to get going properly, especially stuff like Demor and older games like Beautiful Ears. It also had a game for the xbox called In The Pit, and even a game I think for dreamcast called real sound kaise no regret.On Steam, so far we've got Skullgirls, Smuglers, and a bunch of text-based games from Choice of Games. This is not about adding Mortal Kombat, Naruto, or anything like that to the list, it's strictly about adding accessible 
 Steam games. Grail to the Thief and A Blind Legend are another two.Also, when I say Steam as a platform, I literally just mean, putting "steam" in the platform box along with windows, mac, etc. I don't really want to do anything crazily drastic with this because as we all know at the moment, Steam is not the most accessible of the clients. It's more just to let people with Steam know, this game's available for Steam.

It's iOS and I couldn't find the Android port, which I imagine is because these guys are iOS devs.Yes, the Lifeline games read, but there's less convenience because it's not self-voicing. It works, if you flick about.Apple wins the gaming crown on iOS, but not on Mac. Android has far fewer games, but Windows picks up the slack. On the other hand, contemporary games are far, far more likely to be mobile, and my personal experience finds me playing mobile a lot more than desktop nowadays, even with a Windows virtual machine on standby. It's just how things roll.

Joseph, my experiences won't necessarily match those of others, but I'll share what I can.  My experiences apply to the USA only, and I have no idea what differences there would be in other countries.  I myself live in Michigan, but I've heard that other states are either identical or extremely similar so this should still be useful.I'll use the word "you", when I'm actually writing this generically for anyone who wants to know.When you decide to set up an LLC for your personal business, find the website for your state's "Department of licensing and regulatory affairs bureau of commercial services".  There will be a form you use when forming a new LLC, and you send in the filled out form along with, I believe $40.  The initial set-up costs $40 and each year you are billed $25 to renew everything.  The form will ask for the name you want to use for the company (must end in L.L.C.), and to descri
 be the "purpose" of the company.  If you only plan to produce computer games, then that's all you'd need to write.  I included a few extra things, such as selling custom computer devices, so that I would be free to sell any custom hardware devices as well.  Each new thing you add here has to be approved, so that's what prevents people from just listing a ton of crap they're unlikely to ever actually do.  I sadly forgot to include selling card and board games, so one of these days I'm going to have to spend money and send in forms to add those things to my company's "purpose".  So don't add too much more than you need, but also don't screw up like me and forget stuff you will do!  Somewhere on the site you apply for an "EIN", which I think stands for employer identification 
 number.  The number they assign your new business will be required on future forms.Your very first year of making money with your new business is pretty straight forward.  Keep records of what money you made separate from money you have coming in from things that are not your new business.  When it comes time to do your taxes, they'll want all business related stuff separate from other jobs and income.When you file your taxes I am going to assume you'll go and have them done by a tax professional.  H & R block, or whatever.  I used to do my own taxes but not since starting my LLC, so I can't specifically explain how to do that stuff yourself.  The money your business makes in the first year is almost certainly non-taxed income.  You wouldn't have had anything special in place to get taxes removed from your earnings... don't worry, not a problem!  There is normally only a problem if you Should have had
  over $1000 in taxes taken out.  The United states government gives people a 1-time pass for their first year of going over that $1000 mark.  You'll still have to pay it, of course, but there are no fees.  From that point on if your taxes ever owe more than $1000 at tax time, you will be fined an extra 12%.While you're having your taxes done on your business' first year, that's when they can set you up with a quarterly payment plan.  Based on your first year's profits, they'll set up a mandatory tax bill that arrives 4 times during the year.  You'll pay that amount, and it counts towards the taxes for your business for the next year.  Once your second year rolls around and taxes are due, you won't owe much/anything unless your profits went way up compared to the first year.  Each year you can have the quarterly taxes adjusted up or down, so they'll more closely match what you're expected to m
 ake over the following year.I hope this helps a bit.  For me this tax stuff actually screwed me royally last year.  My first year made a lot of money, but the money almost completely stopped on year 2.  The way this screwed me was that I owed thousands of dollars on the first year, and I planned on using profits from the next year to help me pay them off.  Well that didn't happen as planned, and this quarterly tax thing was something I didn't know about before then.  I believe it was a $700 tax bill that arrived every 3 months, which was an absolute killer!  My business wasn't making nearly that much, but the tax amounts are based on the profits from the previous year.  So I guess the moral of the story is to make more every year from your business, instead of going backwards and making less money, ROFL!

I personally advise against it. There are still some maddening bugs which are clearly never going to get fixed, and although there are substantial improvements too, the only one you're really going to notice is responsiveness. Certainly, if you use activities, do not upgrade.

If it's called "Bundle" rather than "Library" then Sam has probably simply upgraded you to a version that's contemporary, which means you haven't lost your investment. So, if nothing else, congratulate yourself on having got the content at a substantial discount. However, the only store listing for Delight Games now is this monster app, and Wiz Choice.Anyway, I'm really glad we've got these now.

Cannot install jaws on windows 10,(The strangest issue ever)

Hello everyone,Today I upgraded from windows 8.1 to windows 10. The process took some time, and when the new windows came on, I couldn't manage to start jaws. I headed over to my USB drive where I had the jaws setup file in hopes of repairing it, but no success. Then, I uninstalled jaws, but it didn't want to go away completely. After many attempts, I ended up using a third-party uninstaller to forcely remove jaws and its components. Well done! It got removed from everywhere where freedom scientific placed files. But here is where the weirdness takes place. I tried to run Jaws setup package and it went up to 50%, then, a message popped up saying that "a DLL component is missing. The setup will now close." No further explanation was given. I attempted to instal both jaws 16 and 17, but I couldn't find the way to do it. Note that this is a legal setup package downloaded from freedom scientific and not a pirated one. On the other hand, NVDA works hopefu
 lly well, but I cannot put up with its slowness on both windows explorer and microsoft word.If anyone of you could take a little time to help me on this vastly strange issue, I would wholeheartedly appreciate it. Is there anything I should install like any update or driver that is missing?Cheers!

I use C# and .NET for all my game projects and am very happy with it.My new games are using OpenAL Soft for the audio library, though Tactical Battle still uses DirectX.AudioVideoPlayback..NET can be cross platform using mono on linux and Mac, and Xamarin on iOS and Android.Xamarin used to cost an extra fee but is now free, like mono.I saw this thread but did not post because discussions of which programming language to use often deteriorate into heated arguments.If you have any specific questions about game development in C# feel free to ask.

Commercial Games - Tax Implications?

Hey everyone,Obviously I'm not looking for official financial advice here. Now, with that qualification out of the way, I'm interested to hear from those of you who have released commercial games, especially in the US. What have your experiences been like, navigating the murky waters of income taxes, in regards to your games' profits? Have any of you had to deal with game profits posing a problem with any income derived through SSI/SSDI? Any experience filing as a business or LLC versus just a hobbyist? I'm just curious, as this is something we don't discuss much, but is certainly something all commercial developers must have run into. Looking forward to hearing your horror stories!

Hey everyone,I've gotten a couple of emails asking about the progress of this game so I just wanted to apologize for our relative silence. We're getting things done...just nothing particularly exciting or worth reporting on. We're creeping ever closer, though, and the project is definitely still alive and well. Right now it's mostly a combination of bug fixing, implementing small features to make gameplay more rewarding, internal game balance tweaks, filling out secondary game content (more items, side quests, etc.), and the like; meanwhile our sound designer continues to churn out sounds for the game. Sorry again for the long silence; hopefully I'll have something more exciting to report next time...

Yes, I totally recommend the upgrade. I've been using El Capitan since beta stages, and it works great. Are you currently on Yosemite?  If so, El Capitan beets it by a long shot.  Of course it has bugs, that's to be expected with software. It's never going to be perfection

@Aprone I'm always amazed at most people with manual skills. Guardening, carpentry, cooking, sewing, knitting, all the things that take a rore amount of random guff and produce something hugely worthwhile. It actually makes me sorry I don't really have the necessary spacial coordination or practical patience to care. I don't mind generic manual tasks like most housework or moving furniture (though hoovering is the invention of satan sinse I can't read while I do it), but things that actually take a degree of knollidge and work and come up with something complete in the end. Speaking of which, had an amazing meal last night, albeit given my random friends' random proclivity  for randomness, it didn't happen until about 1-30, which was whacky and had today being very strange. Then again I've got my lady into the series being human and she's totally hooked, also got a most scary ptrans atlantic phone call from her local priest
  about weddings,  you know this wedding that is happening with me in it, which still seems rather unbelievable .@Nocturnus you should do something about that procrastination right now! . Glad your liking the monthly chat. I'm not experienced with alter but I can say druid mage rocks, and I'm having massive fun on the quests indeed I might go and investigate new thalos when I'm finished writing this, either that or I'll finish with Kay so i can start working on reviews.

@Sebby, I thought the lifeline games read absolutely fine with vo, or do I have that wrong?There are lots of games available for Windows, go and chek the db, however Ios probably has more newly released games these days, though people are still making games for windows as well. Android, much less I'm afraid.

As far as I know, empire mud and wayfar1444 are the only  muds that have you building and setting up entire colonies or empires yourself. I'd recommend wayfar1444, it is not like miriani   or those types of games.

One thing I realized is that avalon does so much differently to other games, I actually don't know if my dislike of pvp would be the same in avalon or not, that is why I wanted to try all the professions out first and see what I fancied.One of the major drawbacks with the novice school is that you can't actually try any! combat unless someone else is doing the messenger course at the same time your in the mud school, so I have no idea whether I'd enjoy combat or not. Heck, Other than obvious stuff like gathering herbs and using zoom commands I'm not really sure how the novice courses reflect avalon as a hole at all or what I'd actually spend my time in the game doing.

@theaboveposter: what was that. didn't make a great sense at first place but anyway.well the story is quite epic, hell I was planning to make my own drama after collecting relevant sound effects because I found some good music tracks lying around which may or may not make the story sound more... amusing, lol. but unfortunately, there's something called life. I can't technically get around creating an audio until the exams are done away with,  partly because I might need to learn the whole process before attempting to mix sounds etc.I suppose things could be quite confusing, some people say goldwave but I can't get it to load mp3 files failing which goldwave presents them in a crappy sounding mono file and no options to save to mp3 etc. audacity may sound easier to some but I'm confused with the controls, took an hour mixing 2 clips together once... a few things didn't work even after figuring them out, plus audacity doesn
 9;t seem to like whatever headphones I use, for some strange reason I already had 2 headphones giving up on their own after using audacity quite a few times. what used to happen is that just after starting audacity I would hear some disturbance to  the right, then left. so for example if jaws is on, the sound wil shift entirely to the right, then left, and then the normal, not to mention with a few clicks in the way. that took place a lot of times before the headphones gave up, same with other headphones. and I don't want to mess up the third, they being senheisor ones, although very good in performance but a bit expensive as well. so looks like I'm temporarily stuck with goldwave  instead. and no dam idea how does one record tts voices and put them in a separate wav file and so on. the idea sounds good, I can even think about adding some echoes and reverb to synthesized voices to make them sound more effective, but the rest remains to be seen when I actually ttr

@theaboveposter: what was that. didn't make a great sense at first place but anyway.well the story is quite epic, hell I was planning to make my own drama after collecting relevant sound effects because I found some good music tracks lying around which may or may not make the story sound more... amusing, lol. but unfortunately, there's something called life. I can't technically get around creating an audio until the exams are done away with,  partly because I might need to learn the whole process before attempting to mix sounds etc.I suppose things could be quite confusing, some people say goldwave but I can't get it to load mp3 files failing which goldwave presents them in a crappy sounding mono file and no options to save to mp3 etc. audacity may sound easier to some but I'm confused with the controls, took an hour mixing 2 clips together once... a few things didn't work even after figuring them out, plus audacity doesn
 9;t seem to like whatever headphones I use, for some strange reason I already had 2 headphones giving up on their own after using audacity quite a few times. what used to happen is that I would hear some disturbance to  the right, then left. so for example if jaws is on, the sound wil shift entirely to the right, then left, and then the normal, not to mention with a few clicks in the way. that took place a lot of times before the headphones gave up, same with other headphones. and I don't want to mess up the third, they being senheisor ones, although very good in performance but a bit expensive as well. so looks like I'm temporarily stuck with goldwave  instead. and no dam idea how does one record tts voices and put them in a separate wav file and so on. the idea sounds good, I can even think about adding some echoes and reverb to synthesized voices to make them sound more effective, but the rest remains to be seen when I actually ttry the same.any tips wi

hi,I remember getting that fx.rar, bloody hell of a pack that is, just about all categories of sounds one may possibly need for a game or project, but a lot of the sounds their are either not good enough or can be found in other games like alteraeon for most, and a few soundpacks and stuff. but still a great pack, one can't get so many sounds in one pack without paying for huge libraries I suppose.I've also collected my own sounds and included them in the same folder, so the whole fx.rar thingy is different now, some new sounds and some deleted too. unless the user uploads the pack again or someone else provides an alternative, I don't think the pack would be easily available. anyways, I visited freesound and overall a great sight, with a few good ambiences and other effects. afterall, not as bad as I previously thought. also found a blind contributer their by username omer alverado who seemed to have contributed a good amount of sounds both outs
 ide ambience and other indoor sounds, etc.I hope that site turns out to be just as good, if I plan to start sound editing at some point, that is.regards.

All of this is very true, and while I agree with you Aprone, the main reason why I'm not implementing accessibility first is because I want to draw in a large sighted audience and interest them with the fact that the game is also accessible. However, later in the game they will be forced into that accessible mode because of plot related issues.To a sighted player, it's essentially a goofy RPG that draws heavily from Golden Sun and Suikoden, that utilizes a lot of different weird parts of a computer that people don't normally think about (most notably text to speech) to express parts of the game.The story is primarily about colors, yes, but there are blind characters in the game and more importantly the story is about how a society surrounding color causes people who can experience color to essentially be controlled by it, while the blind are rejected for not understanding it, but are free from the binds of seeing life in color. Color is essentially a v
 ague analogy for various social differences. I kind of see the game as being a game about colors and blind people, lol.So yes, full accessibility will be implemented. However, I don't want to give out many more details because I want to take the world by surprise. Regardless of how the community acts about it it's a fundamental part of the game so it will be there, although I have no hard feelings since it seems like everyone was just jumping to conclusions.
