Re: C C++ using libraries. Create MUD games

This question is very hard to answer and really depends on your personal preference. And, to be honest (and blunt), it seems like your switching languages a lot and can't find a good language to settle down with. I know the feeling, but if your going to make anything big and major you can't really sprinkle lots of different languages in it because that makes the compiler (that is, the person who's building the project) need far more dependencies. For instance, if you mixed C#, C, C++, and Rust in a single project, you'd need .NET/.NET Core, all the packages (Nu or via assemblies) to satisfy .NET or .NET Core, a C compiler capable of compiling both C and C++, all the C and C++ libraries which you used, the Rust compiler, and all the crates you used when using Rust. This is a symptom known as 'dependency hell'. Dependency hell is a colloquial term for the frustration of some software users who have installed software packages which have dependencies on specific versions of other software packages.The dependency issue arises around shared packages or libraries on which several other packages have dependencies but where they depend on different and incompatible versions of the shared packages. If the shared package or library can only be installed in a single version, the user may need to address the problem by obtaining newer or older versions of the dependent packages. This, in turn, may break other dependencies and push the problem to another set of packages. Unlike the dependency hell described here where the user gets frustrated, the builder also runs into this problem; they have to build libraries, compilers, programs and tools, which may need other libraries, programs, tools, etc., and so on and so forth, until your building so much that you run out of disk space or you enter a dependency loop and go no further, which only causes a massive mess that you cannot recover from. I would highly advise that you find a language your comfortable with first, program in it for a few months, if not a few years, look up code examples, research it, and then start doing big projects in it. Only then will you alleviate this problem permanently. But if you interbreed multiple languages together, your *going* to run into dependency hell, whether you like it or not. .NET/.NET Core does not have this problem only because the different CLI/CLR languages can be safely mixed because assemblies are language-agnostic. You have clearly rejected C# in favor of others and, therefore, will not have this safety resolver.

Re: Most annoying game bug you have ever encountered?

Entombed.  Was messing around with the combine ability after observing it with a  wanerer.  The chaos blobs were fun to screw around with, and produce corpses for godly skeletons as despite dying, one just splits apart while leaving a corpse for the blob.   Well, it seems when it comes to multi-hit attacks like whirlwind or lightning, the game sort of has a panic attack, and continues to extend the number of hits far from what's considered necessary or normal.  There's nothing like having your entire party die from a lightning inflicting 3-8 damage per hit, for about 4 minutes of damage.  It tended to trigger while combined, but also when the blobs were raised as skeletons.  Even funnier when your party dies, the lightning revives them, and then kills the zombie again.

Re: Code Factory Eloquence reported as trojan by MS Security Essentials

to clarify, the only reason, why a anti virus app  may flag our software more is because, some of our software needs, more intimate access to the system then other apps out there. its merely doing what its designed to do, and sometimes gets over zelliss, the issue comes in ware the devs of the software cannot be bothered to actually test the false positives we submit, so hence we not seeing any improvement in it as time goes by, they'll only cater for main stream software or, apps that will impact allot of  users, and that is ware they'll reconsider false positives.although, i've never seen MSE act that way with the app mentioned in this post. then again, each system is unique, with unique settings and other apps we do not know of. here's a good old example. i have a app that can, retreave forgotten passwords. guess what? its flagged as a hacking tool. now, its not intended to hack, but to help. but, its actual nature is to find things in places no average smokie joe will go in to. so the antivirus rightfully flags it as bad. yet its what you intend to do with it, or what it intends to do, in conjunction with what its being used with, that matters.now, it has to let me know about this so called, bad app, because,  had I not willingly launched it, and, had, another app, launched this particular app that was wrapped in a known trusted app, it effectavely would be tricking me to think its safe. when it is not.so yep. sometimes, we got to think further, then just 1 instance of weather something is a false posetive or not.as for code factory? sadly I don't have that app. and cannot buy it, so there fore, cannot test/comment more thurrowly about it. as nice as it would have been to have. although I do believe my postulations and educated guesses  would be right on the money.

Re: A Hero's Call: an Accessible Fantasy RPG from Out of Sight Games

I think for the person who asked about multiplayer, Joseph already confirmed that is not going to happen, as this is supposed to be a single player game.  Honestly, one thing I really hate in a game is a shoe-horned multiplayer system thrown in, which was a huge problem with games from 2008-2014.  More times than not, the multiplayer aspect heavily detracts from the overall quality of the game, and you get the feeling the game could of been longer without the pointless multiplayer.  Also online battles with your party would just consist of who had the faster Cimian to one shot the entire party with 3 sneak attacks for 10k damage each.  Considering what one event I experienced in the game consist of, it's obvious the game wasn't quite balance to fighting your own party.

I really hope we get a walkthrough because there are some parts of the game I just get stuck on and sometimes I don't want to play because of it.  Agree with Jade and Blind Ninja - if someone likes to play with a walkthrough so they can use it when they get stuck, then that's how they enjoy playing and no one should be judged for that.  Gotta say I'm a new member here, and although I've seen a lot of good members spreading positivity and helping people out I'm not a huge fan of the negative, judgmental, snarky replies I see to some people who are earnestly asking a question when they're stuck in a game.  But I do hope a walkthrough pops up eventually, I'd like to finish the game and there are some downright unpleasant bits in quests I just can't get past no matter how hard I try.

Griff(slightspoilers)I said this before, but the duck and apple dials are related to tombstones up in the graveyard itself. Check near-ish the pond and orchard, respectively. You should find them. I can't and won't give exact coordinates, but I hope that helps.Part of my email to out-of-sight games included that issue, along with a bunch of others. I know Joseph and Ian and the team are working very hard to improve this game, but seriously, even in its current slightly shaky state, the game was very worthwhile at twenty bucks. I'd have paid thirty for it. Manamon was twice the price, and while it was much, much more stable, code-wise, it was also a much simpler game with far less attention to detail and nothing extremely new under the sun (maps/interactions borrowed straight from Paladin of the Sky and BGT in general, which is great and all, but not its own thing). I finished with Manamon in a month. I almost certainly won't be playing AHC religiously in a month, but that has to do with other commitments as well as the fact that I've already completed it once. Really, I won't feel like I've completed things properly until or unless I beat the game on hard.

Personally, I'd just spend $50 on a mixer. It's all wired so you'll have no lag. You can also purchase a microphone to attach to the mixer. I haven't done this so have to put up with hearing myself as I send the audio from a USB microphone to the mixer with the listen option in Windows or a program on macOS called Line In.If you don't want people to hear themselves in a VOIP application, set the audio output of the application to a different sound card. As far as I know, there is no way to get around this.

Yes. It is a shame that more programs don't have a way to change their output device, because, especially when demonstrating a game, when you need to route your entire computer's audio through VAC, you necessarily introduce a bit of lag. This makes you suck more at the game than you otherwise might, if said game depends on reaction times.

This is one of a whole slew of missing sound issues that have probably already been noted, and it's great that you found it - I did too - but putting it here isn't the right place to put it, especially not as the developer has asked multiple times where to put it. Sticking bug reports of this type in this thread just serves to inflate it even further - as does my response post, I suppose, but I'm trying to make a point here - and just generally detracts from  the thread IMHO. I dunno. I get tired of saying the same thing/seeing others have to because posters don't listen. It sorta smacks of futility.

Re: C C++ using libraries. Create MUD games

Let me answer your questions, and advise you, too.1. Use C++. C makes for very dirty implementations that are hard to use. Bad (or good?) thing is your going to be using it anyway.2. Yes, indeed there are a lot -- and I do mean a lot! -- of libraries available out there. On Linux you have your standard POSIX sockets implementation. Then there's Boost.Asio, Poco, Dlib, and much more. I'll post an example of a socket writer in C++ below, as an example, as I find that that is the easiest to get comfortable with. This sample uses Boost.Asio://compile with g++ srcfile.cpp -lboost_system -pthread

#include

int main()
{
boost::asio::io_service io_service;
boost::asio::ip::tcp::socket sock(io_service);
boost::asio::ip::tcp::resolver resolver(io_service);
boost::asio::ip::tcp::resolver::query query("localhost", "4321");
boost::asio::connect(sock, resolver.resolve(query));
boost::asio::write(sock, boost::asio::buffer("Hello world socket\r\n"));
return 0;
}In C, this looks like:#include
#include
#include
#include
#include

int main() {
int i, sock, len, slen;

struct addrinfo hints, *addrs;
memset(, 0, sizeof(struct addrinfo));
hints.ai_family = AF_UNSPEC;
hints.ai_socktype = SOCK_STREAM;

   if (0 == getaddrinfo("localhost", "256", , )) {
sock = socket(addrs->ai_family, addrs->ai_socktype, addrs->ai_protocol);
if ( sock >= 0 ) {
if ( connect(sock, addrs->ai_addr, addrs->ai_addrlen) >= 0 ) {
const char *pm = "Hello world!";
do {
len = strlen(pm);
slen = send(sock, pm, len, 0);
pm += slen;
} while ((0 <= slen) && (slen < len));
}
close(sock);
}
freeaddrinfo(addrs);
}
}As personal preference, I do prefer Rust to C and C++:// Echo server, handles (perhaps) only one connection, don't really know
use std::net::*;

fn handle_client(stream: TcpStream) {
loop {
let mut text = String::new();
stream.read_to_string().expect("Failed to read TCP stream.");
stream.write (text.as_bytes());
}

fn main() {
let listener = net::TcpListener::bind("127.0.0.1:2500").expect ("Cannot bind to port 2500.");
for stream in listener.incoming() {
match stream {
Ok(s)=>handle_client(s),
Err(e)=>error!("IO Error: {}", e),
}

Re: How could you create a maze like the kind you get in entombed?

2018-01-05 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : Ethin via Audiogames-reflector

Re: How could you create a maze like the kind you get in entombed?

This is a process called 'procedural generation'. It's a method of creating data algorithmically as opposed to manually. In other words, its a way of generating data that's either random or systematic by using an algorithm instead of having to manually create everything. This could be done in quite a few different ways. In entombed, I believe that the floor sizes, internally at least, are always constant. What is not is the layout of those floors, the items they contain, the enemies they contain, the doors and passages, etc. The ways that you could do this are quite literally limitless. If you remove the floor size constant then that makes it even more limitless. One way is to do it like so:1. Generate a list of "possibilities." These possibilities could include walls, rooms, items, enemies, etc.2. Determine where that possibility is going to be. If your on a 2D axis, generate the X and Y coordinates, or something like it; if your on a 3D axis though, like entombed is, associate something to mean the floor. For example, while the overall dungeon could be a 3D grid, each Z being a floor, each floor could have it's own pare of X and Y coordinates (so a 2D grid inside a 3D grid, for instance).3. Determine the items attributes and property values. For example, if this possibility is a passage, answer the questions: How long is this passage? Will this passage contain anything? If so, what will it contain? If the item is a room, answer the questions of: How big is the room? How many doors will this room have? Where will these doors go? Will the room have anything in it? If so, what is it? And so on and so forth.And, finally:4. Place the possibility.This sounds way too complicated in an explanation like this, but it actually is quite easy. You would need to repeat that process for the entire dungeon (which could take some time, depending on the generated possibilities). You might also wish to add error checking to determine that nothing overlaps, nothing is placed at the same coordinates as something else is, etc. Otherwise your going to have one hell of a screwed up dungeon.As for implementing this, I can't answer that. I'm not sure if anyone else can either. We could give you little tidbits, but a true implementation is one all your own, and you'll have to implement it yourself. Don't copy-paste them either -- you won't understand the tidbits then. We can advise you, but implementing this is an entirely different matter.Just remember that procedural generation can extend to anything. You can generate small facts, random weather, planets, asteroids all the way up to entire universes. (And no, I'm not joking. The old game from the 80s, Elite, did just this -- generate an entire universe, with random planets, technological levels, economies, governments, populations, yields, radius', and names.) The possibilities of procedural generation are entirely limitless.As a final warning, I wouldn't start with something as complex as an entire dungeon in a game. Procedural generation is a concept that you start as a foundation and build upon it. Start with something small -- simple useless programs that generate basic data everyone knows, such as random math problems, random facts from the internet, news media, blogs, etc. as possible possibilities. Then build up to something more complex as you go. But don't try with something supermassively huge. You will quickly get overwhelmed. I know that BGT may be able to handle procedural generation, but remember that your in a single-threaded environment, which means no multiprocessor advantages. Be careful on what you generate and stop immediately if you feel your confused about something. Do research, and look up samples in other programming languages and theories to try to help you out if you do get stuck. This will take a lot of time to do and will not be easy. But once you have a working implementation, have fun with it -- you'll absolutely love it when your done!

Re: A Hero's Call: an Accessible Fantasy RPG from Out of Sight Games

There are only 3-4 wolf dens. I spent awhile trying to find the last one this time, but I eventually got it. My problem is that I was on the wrong side of the river or whatever it is. I could hear the damn thing from both sides, but this is something they're going to try and fix if they can.My party this time is all around level 12. I've been sorta sampling each area doing side-quests but haven't actually dug down into any one area too deeply. I'm going to actually make a point of grinding a fair bit this time, if only so that when I switch to hard mode with a new game plus option, I'm already beastly strong and won't have to go through the headache of re-grinding.On the whole, I do like the scaling factor. Higher level enemies do different things. For instance, poultergeists are harder than ghosts and cast different spells...and did I hear someone mentioning a bone dragon? OMG!For the record, at level 12 I'm at approximately the 6-hour mark, and half an hour of that was trying to find bandits/goblins and also trying to get that last damn wolf den. Heh.Now I'm about to try the thing that seems to have hung everyone up before now. Bandit ambush points. Wish me luck. lol Has anyone actually completed this quest? Or is it bugged to an extent that makes it impossible? It sounds like it's just tricky and finicky, not impossible.

Re: Huboodle - Five games in one!

2018-01-05 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — New releases room : bookrage via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Huboodle - Five games in one!

hello, got Hubital and got some good things and bad things to say about it.First the good things. I like the game and I found Word Builder surprisingly addictive and really went to town on it. I think if I figured out how to get medals I'd go back to word war as well, but for some reason no matter how much I played the single player mode, I could never get one. And as far as I could tell I was actually pretty fast. So If you could tell me how you get medals and stuff, that would be great. and I figure it is a little different now that everything is connected and medals don't seem to be specifically connected to word war/battle cats alone.Second: the bad thing. I kept having trouble with the game freezing my system when I was playing Word builder. I found that if I left the app running and came back, it would work as though I was still playing but the image on the screen would still be frozen. it didn't interfere with gameplay though. I'm running the latest IOS and was playing on an Ipad pro as with word war, I found it easier to play the word searches on a larger screen. Also navigation is still a little clunky, but I'm probably going to try word war again, not a cat fan so probably not going to play that version, and might even step into the black jack room a bit. I also once thought that making my system sleep and coming back might correct the freeze, but it actually froze everything except Voiceover Seri. I could not enter my pass-number, could not play music, open other apps, or do anything other than talk to her. I had to do this crazy cold restart to fix it. Huboodle was still up band I got back to playing but it was a real scary 15 minutes while I wrestled with it. I got a couple of freezes in Word Builder and one on the main social screen.II suggested this on Applevis when you were working on word war way back when, but I was thinking something more like a virtual city/zoo/kingdom game like township or stuff like that might be cool. With add-ons both for game money and real money, you could make a killing, and as the blind are mostly unable to play these sorts of games on mobiles, you'd have the market cornered.Also perhaps a game where you can gather up memorable characters and battle/quest, again with periodic content updates both for real and fake money would also work. For an example of what this game is like, look at DC Legends, the upcoming Idle Champions of the realms, or many others like Eternal Frontier or idle heroes, or godlands RPG. That might be a little large for you guys but as there is nothing even remotely like it for the blind that is accessible and the games rock, you could go much smaller. Basically a game of some sort where the players collect and battle heroes in some sort of turn-based combat or something. I don't really care if it's superheroes, sci-fi, fantasy, or a whole bunch of stuff but I'd pay a lot of dough to get a game like that.Also perhaps a risk-like game, virtual checkers/chess, maybe with a silly alternate theme like the chess pieces make fantasy noise or are space vehicles or something. Maybe something that was a cross between a music game and space invaders, or something like madlibs..Just throwing stuff out there. If you do use any of that at all, I don't want or need anything, just wanted to tell you of some stuff I've seen do well in the general community. With that collectable hero game idea mentioned above. I love that one so much that I actually backseat game while someone else plays DC Legends for me. because it is so much fun getting stuff. If straight-up hero stuff is too hard, make a card game, ccgs are pretty neat.

Re: A Hero's Call: an Accessible Fantasy RPG from Out of Sight Games

Just an aside about gear:See, I actually have the opposite problem. I find all this heavy gear that will slow everyone except a warrior down horribly and heavily penalize magic use and whatnot. I played my first go-round with a warrior, so I was never short of gear, but if I wanted to kit out Simeon or Mathias, there were issues there. No, there is really no magical shopkeeper - try Ignatius though, for the closest equivalency - but magical characters are going to be more frail by nature than melee, that's just the way of it. Some of the lootable pieces from locked display cases are freaking amazing for magical characters, and in time I think you'll find that you're geared up just fine. Good luck equipping Mathias in such a way that he can use his healing magic though, whenever you get there.Just popped off a rather lengthy email to Out of Sight Games detailing bugs and a few other things I've found. Here's hoping it helps.Remember, folks, if you have speech logs/other proof of bugs that you suspect are unique, please email them instead of just slapping them all up here on the forum. It's fine to ask if such-and-such is a bug if you aren't sure, but if you're certain, and if it's not something that's been mentioned at least a couple of times before, please let them know. If we want this to be the game it deserves to be, then we need to essentially act as the final sweep that beta testers normally do in order to stomp out the last of these pernicious little bugs.I'll report one here now though, in case any of you find this by accident.slightspoilersIf you do Hope's quest, talk to Liam and then come back to Hope to finish the quest, don't talk to her again, whatever you do. You'll get into an empty dialogue box with no way out, and you'll have to close and restart. If you maybe hadn't saved in awhle, that's going to suck.spoilersend

Or just hit escape and skip the sounds and read the log, assuming you've got logs available. This is the downside of having atmospheric combat sounds though. Having a sound when a buff falls makes sense. If you buff-stack, then you're also going to get a lot of separate sounds when each of them falls.

@706 and there's Ah, that makes sense, it should not wait until battle to do that, and combine it into one effect if multiple buffs wear off at once. I will often have arcane aegis, stealth, favor of the divine, rest for the weary, etc. all wear off at once, because at the end of tough battles, I nail that sequence like bam bam bam bam bam bam bam.Another little issue is that if you had a move lined up, bu tone of your other party members killed the last enemy, that move is apt to be the first thing you do next battle. I don't like that, it should clear off any state from the previous battle, well, except buffs you've cast that still have time on them .But yeah back to that whooshing thing, man that's rough when you get a lot of those going on at once, they could do a thing like OK, if one buff is about to expire, let's check the queue, and if any more are gonna go off within 5 seconds of that one, play this longer, but singular sound, etc.

Re: Tips and tricks on using the command line.

For the person asking about ipconfig, there are a few useful switches.ipconfig /all gives you a detailed map of your connected devices. Useful if you need an IP address of a device and don't want to use other means to obtain it. This will generate a lot of content, so you might want to pipe it into a text file if you want to review the output.Release and renew are also good to know if you want to assign your device a new IP address, and for some reason don't want to power cycle your router to accomplish that.flushdns is also good, especially if you're changing the DNS server your computer is using. This will ensure that all your internet traffic is going through the new server. I'm a fan of open DNS myself, although Google's DNS is also a popular choice. In general, I'd recommend against using your ISP's DNS servers, because they tend to redirect you to their own landing pages if a website doesn't load. And who knows what they're trying to inject into that traffic, although, to be fair, using a trustworthy VPN will take care of that problem pretty fast too.Finally, I want to highlight a cool trick I read about recently. I'll let the linked article do the explaining, since it does require installing Python, but if you've ever wanted to do a speed test of your internet directly from the command line, you can do so pretty easily. No more inaccessible speed testing websites, which can only be a good thing.https://www.howtogeek.com/179016/how-to … mand-line/Enjoy, and I hope something I said here was helpful.

Re: setting up virtual audio cable

Ah okay, yeah sounds like what my  sound card can do kinda.  Altough technically I have 8 jacks on my PC, 6 in the rear, two in the front, I can assign them to whatever I like when I plug something in.    When I plug something in, it will simply just ask "what is this" and I'll tell it if it's a line, mic, or speakers or whatever.   That VAC may actually come in handy for someone I know though since he does a lot of stuff like this.  Myself, I use a physical mixer since I run a studio.  It's nice to know there are options like this and no, it doesn't sound confusig at all.    Basically look at it like a software mixer of sorts.

Re: Where I can accessible board games for the blind?

When you buy games from 64 Oz Games, they only supply you with the braille labels. You have to purchase the cards yourselves. If you buy a packet that is not the official packet, you run the risk of low-quality cards or not having the braille labels and cards match. I think that 64 Oz Games can advise on which versions are correct and match the braille labels.

Re: Where I can accessible board games for the blind?

Can someone who bought the Braille version of Cards Against Humanity speak to the quality? I seem to remember hearing something about how the cards themselves were made of flimsy paper, and the Braille itself was not good, spelling errors and such. I never knew whether that was an accurate assessment or not, seeing as how the source was less than credible, but if it is worth buying, that's something I really want to do. I've always played it in teams, so someone would read the cards to me. But I find it difficult to remember everything that way, so I would always defer to my teammate for their answer rather than struggle to keep up, which sucks. I love playing that on RS. I would have gladly Brailled the cards myself, but they seem a bit small to hold some of the phrases. Also, are any of the extra packs included in this Braille version you can buy, or is it just the standard cards? Or are there extra packs available for an additional fee?

Plus, IIRC they want to do something about cross region gifting.Also no, it'ss still not worth it. The 30 day free trial, no. You HAVE to use their site for listening to audiobooks, you can't easily download them to your computer at all, only phones and such, and they pester you with a lot of emails nagging you to use your 'credit'I had months when I should have got bonus credits as I paid for a subsription, no credits were given out at all.The sneaky thing is, and I seriously hope this is  abug on their endthey'll let you listen to a little bit of, say, Before I Fall, then it'll say free section over, if you hit buy it'll (and I dunno if this is a bug but this is what happened to me last year) apparently say the book isn't out in your region, and still take your credit. There used to be a loophole to get books that weren't in your region but IIRC they closed that one, I forgot exactly how to do it as there were multiple ways to get around that but none of them seem to work any more...EDIT: I meant books that are atually out in the EU on other sites not showing up on audiobooks.com and being geoblocked despite having deals in place for the whole of the EU and UK on competing sites that is.

Which makes sense since he's come to view the forest as home, and then his fellow rangers were killed and then you took him back to his home where his family died and made him relive old grief. So he's just very troubled and sad. And that makes sense. I just wanna give him a hug. I wish there was a "hug the party member" option.

Re: AHC endgame buggy for someone else as well?

I have to agree with Lucas. Maybe they could have waited to announce a release date until they'd done more testing, but that could still have created an unfavorable impression since even before the release date was announced there were people asking when they thought the game might come out. I should also point out that as the date drew nearer Joseph did warn everybody that because they didn't have as much time for testing as they might have preferred there were likely to be issues. I'm not saying this to be mean in any way, but I do feel that some people could do with that reminder. That being said I definitely feel the game lives up to what I was hoping for and will do so even more so when more of these problems are squashed.

Re: AHC endgame buggy for someone else as well?

Honk, thanks for your reply, and yeah, I should have probably expressed my point better as well, so I'm sorry about that.By reiterating that people should submit actual bug reports to the official support address, I was not targeting you personally, or specifically the post with which you started this topic, but rather the general tendency to mention bugs briefly just here that I seem to be noticing over the last few days. True, noone of us knows how many of the reports posted here have actually been submitted to the devs themselves via e-mail as well, but I tend to assume a great portion of the reports which could in fact probably turn out very useful to them have appeared just here, and thus could very easily be left unnoticed by the devs. Rather than yourself, to give an example in this very thread, I was directing that more towards Shadowlink in post 3, for instance. That does contain several interesting bugs, some of which I can't remember having heard of before or in other threads, and to me personally it seems as if most of these are actual, even though perhaps just rare bugs.So, let me put it a bit better: If you feel like posting a bug for the first time just here, probably because you are right here and right now and it feels easier and more comfortable to you that way at the very moment, let's try to remember that the devs are not right here right now, and don't probably have as much time to spend around here as most of us. So, let's discuss bugs, of course, but if you want to make sure the devs do get to know about it and can fix it, do as they asked and submit it officially at the support e-mail as well, besides talking about it here, because you never know if someone else has already reported it or not.I should probably have posted that to the game's main thread but that feels just too huge for me to check. I'd rather steer clear of that by a long shot. :-)Lukas

Sadly I wouldn't trust any antivirus program.Our software in general, bgt and other software seems to be targeted, some say its just coincidence however its happening to often to be that.I actually think they are targeting our stuff on purpose.Firstly, does your system have any other issues?If not, exclude all the folders, I usually exclude all blind games, screen readers and the like.Some go as far as excluding program directories and download folders but thats dangerous, I do do that with my backup drives which do not share the system unless I am doing stuff from those drives.I would run malwarebytes and see if there is any actual malware on there.

Right but at least here, I dunno if it's my computer, browser or whatever but hitting next button doesn't do anything, it just cycles through the poll fields over and over until I hammer escape to get it out of that. I'd just like the poll stuff spun off into its own new poll stuff, which'd be a new topic with poll stuff, and the existing new topic to just be the stuff before the poll, and the submit/preview buttons.Or a handy keyboard shortcut, on other sites it's alt+shift+S on Jcink, Vbulltin has a similar system, I believe phpbb has a similar hotkey too

Re: A Hero's Call: an Accessible Fantasy RPG from Out of Sight Games

The whooshing sound is usually the sound of buffs wearing off. Liam had that sound, or one very like it, looping at the end of his live stream. I don't know how he got it, but it persisted even through the credits (which themselves are throwing errors, btw).AssaultFreak, you nailed it with regard to Mathias's voice. I like that he's quiet, a bit guarded, that's all fine with me, but the whispering vs. mumbling thing...I dunno.If you parry and counter, you don't re-run back to your position to do it, you just strike. I had a warrior and she did it all the time. It was awesome. Fire Bolt could be a little quicker, but Fire Blast is a great gout of fire, I'm not surprised it takes a bit longer. And here I'll say that I actually like the sound of Lightning Bolt. There's more of an organic crackle than a more mechanized, standard electrocution sound. Electricity rarely sounds the way video games make it sound. lol AHC got it right in this regard, and the speed of the sound reminds me that lightning is very, very fast. It sounds wild and dangerous, at least to me. But I suppose everything is down to sound preference. I can't think of any sounds I dislike outright.That said, I think I may be in a small minority on one thing. If the position of the audio doesn't matter for strategy, I'm not really fussed about it one way or the other, so all the running and retreating and more running, to me at least, just slows things down. I'm a bit of a purist in this regard. Again, it doesn't mean this sort of thing is bad - it's not, not at all - but I'd enjoy combat even if units were static on the battlefield. I care more about the strategy than about the audio effects, I suppose, particularly if those audio effects make battles slower. I find myself hitting escape to skip them more often than not, then reading the log if I really want the details. Still means it's faster overall. Unfortunately, if I get too hasty about this, sometimes it results in a game-crashing error that's been reported a few times before already.

Re: This doesn't make sence, audible book not availible in south africa.

You'd be shocked. I know somebody who does audiobook recordings for a big publisher and actually they do not get paid that much for labor costs. I was told most of the money goes in terms of contracts and various fees to a publisher.F.ex. the audiobook may only costs $25 to make, but tack another $20 or $30 on in some cases for fees, royalties and such to publishers. Also, depending on who you ask, I've heard authors themselves say they get next to no royalties from audiobooks, I've heard of authors demanding their books don't get recorded until they get paid more.I'm not disputing audiobooks should cost more for the time to record them and such. I'm just asking why Amazon charges $10 for a paperback book, brand new...and 7 times that for the audio version. Oh and, on CD? It's even more, I've run into triple figure prices for CD based audiobooks in the past. How, exactly is that ethical anyhow? I'd much rather have a smaller price gap between physical and digital. Also, maybe it's just the Amazon site I use but holy hell the audiobooks there are expensive and then some. Still nothing on Australia mindor Denmark though, those guys pay a metric load of money for everything!

At 2265What your having trouble with is the clear burner.One of its attacks will make that kind of noise and kill you very quickly if you aren't standing on one of the platforms.Before the burner's attack starts, you'll hear a fire wall / burning sound ambience so as soon as you hear that you need to hook onto a platform and stay up there until it stops.

The reason I mentioned SAS is that they would have a very large supply of pilots, and perhaps they could find one who would want to speak to a blind aviation enthusiast. What can you lose just by asking? Also, if you spoke to a commercial pilot from any airline, you would probably not need to know Swedish aviation terminology because commercial pilots have to know English.

New topic poll options. Scale 'em back

As it saysWhy does a new topic automatically come with a poll setting? I'd much rather have individual new topic and new poll buttons or functions like on most forums, as it's cluttered as anything and, ironically, not very accessible to have a giant wad of poll stuff at the bottom of a post new topic page. So, how bout removing the poll options and if possible moving the poll to a seperate post new poll link, I mean new topic's already there so why not. It'd also clean up the new topic page too.Lastly. Is there a handy keyboard shortcut to post without having to tab or scroll through the entire poll settings stuff, or a way to hide said poll settings if they don't get removed? It's just bugging me is all really. I dont get why I have to wade through a poll setting most never ever useso just get rid of it from the new topic stuff and move it over to a new poll page already, yanno

Re: This doesn't make sence, audible book not availible in south africa.

I griped about audiobooks last year on one of my first posts. Nice to see the issue still is a PITA. I've yet to find a reliable VPN.Also. Explain this to me. I can go to a store, buy a regular paperback book for $5 or $10, or £5 or £10 or so depending on if I'm Stateside or not. Yet I go onto any audiobook site...$30 and up for the exact same book. Or £35 and up. I have seen.get this. $79.99 on one particular website that will remain anonymous.However. @RTT: I found a workaround. Get a Kindle Paperwhite and get somebody  to both set up the Kindle's mailto email, then download regular ebooks, email them to your Kindle, turn on the voice view, and hey, it may not be perfect quality but when it works, it's pretty decent and easy to listen to. Just turn off wifi to save battery life.That's another workaround. I got given my Kindle a while back and got emailed a lot of books on it (the joys of knowing people at a publisher who aren't afraid to slip me books in emails). Total cost of Kindle? About £40 or $45-50 depending on exchange rate. Cost of emailing an ebook in the right format? Free. Cost of voiceview? Free. Hopefully that helps. Give it a go and if you don't like it, no loss

2018-01-05 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : lukas via Audiogames-reflector

Re: AHC endgame buggy for someone else as well?

I would just like to kindly remind everyone that there was a commitment to the Kickstarter backers. AFter the campaign was successfully funded, they couldn't have spent like another year or so fixing bugs. That would have created a far worse impression on the general public than they'd deserve. I helped test the game several months before the Kickstarter campaign even went alive, unfortunately I was not able to keep up to that commitment afterwards because of some serious real life changing events, but I have to tell you the game was definitely a lot less complete at the stage of launching the campaign than you could probably have imagined. Given that they were just two guys plus an external sound designer working on it for 5 whole years before launching the campaign, the time they had left as a result of the promised release date was really limited, considering how much they still had to manage to do. So yeah, once the promised date was out there, don't you all agree that it would have again created a much worse impression than deserved if they were not able to stick to it no matter what? These last few months must have been absolutely crazy and rushed in order to get everything playable and practically finished. Most of the bugs reported so far are in fact just tiny little oversights that seem reasonably quick and easy to fix. So, isn't it better to have a delivered promise and expect some much needed polishing for a while after that, than if they acted like many other well known developers around here? I just believe we do need to realize that and make it clear to ourselves what kind of behavior from developers we actually prefer. Besides, the guys mentioned it themselves several times here that they were well aware of the situation. Joseph said they were not able to test the final build as extensively as they would have liked, so this whole situation must be much more unpleasant and possibly embarrassing for themselves than for anyone of us players.I can't speak for the devs but I would personally recommend everyone to use the officially requested channel of communicating the bug reports. There have been several requests to use the official support address if you want to make sure your bug reports do get through, and from personal experience, I can definitely see how that must be a much better manageable way to keep track of everything for them than having to check these constantly growing threads. Besides, even if a bug gets reported like a dozen times, it can actually be an useful thing if you can ignore the possible frustration. This is again something I can confirm from experience. Someone provides more detailed information, someone else provides less of it or doesn't know what and how exactly to report, but combined together everyone's pieces of the puzzle can often help to form the overall picture that would otherwise have been impossible, or at least much more difficult and maybe even time-consuming.If they ever feel they need a more flexible bug tracking system than just e-mail, which would help them to better search and filter the results, archive them, assign priority or completion status to them, clear out duplicates and whatnot, they can do it any time, after all. So I would think until they instruct us to change the way of reporting the bugs, let's be decent enough to respect their wish and report the bugs in the way which is most comfortable to them, not us. It's the very least an end player of the finished product can do to help the devs to keep improving it.Sorry for the long rant. I hope you do get my point though. :-)Lukas
