Re: Old Deathmatch Games

@23, I don't. I really wouldn't recommend setting this up purely because it suggests a (very) insecure configuration. Placing files like that into your web directory is never a good idea, but when Danny and I were developing this neither of us were exactly knowledgeable on cybersecurity and just did what was convenient and what worked. And like I said, I really wouldn't use the server anyway -- it causes massive CPU spikes because neither of us knew how to multithread properly. (In any case, both the game and the server were written in the worst-possible way, but hey, we were both young then.)

Re: mac virtual machine with voiceover

Moderation.@staticmaster: Per Apple's license, you cannot run a Mac virtual machine if you do not own the physical hardware. If you were to, for example, create installation media from your own mac and run it on your own time, then sure, but you cannot then go distributing it. Likewise, if you yourslef don't own the hardware, you also do not own a license for Mac OS. Short answer is no. This is a warning.@Queenslight: If I remember correctly, 9to5 Mac or some other news source picked up the Electron vm. A lot of them are doing that lately. Also, doesn't Apple release *some* historic Mac revisions anyhow? I'd venture to guess it's more of an acceptable grayarea, and considering it's hit the main tech news circles and Apple hasn't squealed, I imagine they probably don't have too much of a problem with it, otherwise they would've said something by you. You know how they are with c's.

Question about lexing

2020-10-30 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : Ethin via Audiogames-reflector

Question about lexing

So, I'm taking theoretical computer science at the moment and we're covering DFAs/NFAs, lexers, parsers and compilers. My professor wants us to develop a lexer to recognize the following code:program abc
integer a,b,c
real x
begin
b=6;
a=b+-4;
x=-5.63e002;
end
endAs a sort of reference, he gave us (invalid but readable) regular expressions. At first I thought about using something like the PEGTL to lex tokens for this assignment, but when I asked about it he said he wanted us to write the lexer completely by hand without using external libraries.The problem is that I've never written a lexer by hand. I've used parser/lexer generation tools like Flex, but I've only done manual tokenization once, and that was hacky (and I don't even remember what I was trying to do). At the time I used strtok, because what I was working with was in C. And I remember that what I did worked. I'm not really sure though how to recognize an IEEE floating-point number in scientific notation though, for example. I obviously could just throw together some regular expressions and then match on those, but I doubt that's actually what any modern lexers do, and I'd like to learn "modern" practices. I could use strspn, but that's a function that I've rarely ever used and I don't know if that would actually be applicable here. Am I overthinking the problem? What am I missing? I've tried to research the problem with not much luck.Edit: I'm wondering if I should post this to SO as well or not... hmmm.

I don't have any experience with it, but from what I know it isn't really worth it. The idea of the deep web has gained a really strange reputation, and I suppose a lot of creepypastas have something to do with it. The bottom line is that a lot of people try out something like tor only to be disappointed by the lack of interesting things. Anything you'd stumble across would either be a bitcoin related scam or something set up by law enforcement to catch people looking to make shady purchases. The horror stories aren't entirely fiction, but most of them are. Tor is mainly used in all seriousness by those living in countries with intense internet censorship.

Re: cheap cloud desktops

@Camlorn: Internet radio application, running Station Playlist Pro bundle on a Windows Server, client's audio collection is on the server as well because their residential internet is too intermittent. And there isn't an SPL or anything like it for Linux, both in terms of accessibility and good representation of how real hardware-based automation is supposed to run. That, as far as I'm concerned, is the only fully valid reason to justify a Windows Server. But I am just about done dealing with Wamp and permission inconsistencies, especially given I could roll a website (on either web server) in about 15 minutes give or take on a Linux server no problem. For what it's worth, the primary use case works decent, but ask me to run a stand-alone website and I will never roll a Wamp stack, for obvious reasons.

You can then make up your mind about what you wish to create / ask about. Just please, please, please do not make another FPS with poorly thought through mechanics, generic weapon names, and a half-baked storyline (Yes Revenge of the Undead, I am looking at you for all three of those).Hahahaha wow, you really don't like that game, do you?  I've never played it, but it sounds like audiogames have a lot of the same problems as videogames.  Yes, regardless of gameplay mechanics, quality is important.  I've seen games like the one you just described, and I get it.  Anyway, thanks for the link; I will definitely do as you suggest.  After all, I learned the differences between an FPS and an RPG by playing them; same goes here I think.  You basically just gave me an excuse to play some more audio games.  "For research" of course.

Re: How do you build Your web sites/projects?

Not really. How do you build your websites and how do you build your projects (assuming web projects) are two different questions. The latter is python+flask or JS with React/Angular. The former is less complicated.Seconding Nikola. It's the way to go if you want a simple website (optionally with a blog) to customize and push to the world without a lot of extra thought. Right in between coding single pages of HTML by hand and spending more time than necessary preoccupied with visual aspects. Most users don't actually end up customizing their themes. If it's good enough for them, it'll be good enough for you.Try checking out a list of Nikola sites found in the wild and the handbook to see what can be done.

Re: yu gi oh mud tournament

The thing is, lots of decks are capable of one turn kills if the opponent doesn't take steps to prevent it or put up a decent enough defense. It's just that meta decks are good at preventing them, or pushing through non-meta defenses against an OTK. I mean, if we don't allow meta decks, I can go and otk everyone with fluffals. Fluffals are capable of outputting enough damage to otk someone who has 16000 lp in tag dual setups (I've done it before). But Fluffals aren't meta because they can be disrupted easily. So are a lot of non-meta decks. They can totally make your life short or painful, but can be easily disrupted if the opponent plans for disruption. I've said this before, and I say it every time someone suggests banning metadecks. The only thing that does is create a new meta, and new painful strategies to arise from the unleashed shackles of the other better decks.

So if I did a flame team, I guess it would be Blaizond, Ursinearator, Lantlare, Vultair, Garganchan, and, er, I'm missing something. Merembear maybe? I got a feeling Vultair is gonna drive me nuts having to sit on Embird until level 47 or 49 or something I think, either that or I miss out on some moves and get others later than I otherwise would have. Omg water types will be really fun with this team.

@6It's not a myth.  The rice is supposed to turn to mush.  I would dispute that it's super effective, but it's the same idea as those little dehydration packs you get in all the electronic appliances.  I wouldn't do it unless the device is otherwise shot because you risk getting rice stuck in it, which can be as bad as the water, but it can work.Ever cooked rice?  You do like 1 cup rice to 2 cups water and you get 3 cups rice because all the water goes into the rice.  It's the same as that.  Then you take the rice away, and the water stays in the rice, same as if you cooked it.

Re: cheap cloud desktops

Blame Apache for that, not Linux.  I don't know a single dev who uses Apache given a choice.  Nginx is much simpler.  And if you use a tool like certbot and you don't know what it's doing for you, yes, this kind of thing can happen.  You didn't find google results because the thing you needed to google for wasn't "certbot broke my apache", it was whatever Apache was logging at startup.  Also, smart sysadmins back up the server before running potentially dangerous commands.The right answer in a case like that is usually systemctl status apache to find the error, failing that you just stop it and run it in the foreground yourself to see why it won't start.You're using the thing you already said probably works worse on Windows as an example of why you don't like Linux.  SO I'm not sure what the point is.  Yeah, if you need to run Windows only software, Windows is probably easier, but this whole "Windows is my desktop and therefore I don't have to learn" thing is really harmful.  You will have to learn.  It will be worse, because when servers that are entirely GUI driven and also by Microsoft go wrong you are basically just screwed, especially as a blind person.  On Linux you've got journalctl for logs, which is a bit cryptic but okay, you can deal, and once you know a couple flags you can see logs for any service in realtime.  On Windows, you've got event viewer, which has a nasty habit of crashing screen readers and locking the machine just because you opened it and also you wanted a manual explaining what can be found there?  Why ever would you want that?  We're Microsoft, we don't believe in clear documentation.  But I'm sure it feels great at first, that you can just click a thing on the desktop--to be honest, that's probably how they got most of their customers, then it was too late.  Even Microsoft has sort of admitted that Windows on servers is lame.  They can't ever say it but "now all our stuff works on Linux" is a pretty big tell.

Yeah, see, that's pretty much just it. I don't have a problem with using wine, the issues start when stuff just doesn't work, or you need to debug runtime errors, or whatever, because no display, and that, whatever it's called, virtual display thing you can install, just didn't work for me, or at least auto it didn't like it.Speaking of debugging? A while ago, certbot managed to totally fuck up my apache install just by me deleting my certificates because I messed them up. We're talking, the service wouldn't start, absolutely nada. Uninstalling and reinstalling both apache and certbot didn't work, nothing worked. Google wasn't particularly helpful either, ended up just having to redeploy the server because that was all I could do at that point.

Hi,Pleased you liked the game description, I’ve obviously read the full script for the game, although I can’t give any more details  at this stage, I can say as a huge RPG fan myself I think the game design team have done a fantastic job. Actually  the game description above mentions the Valelands, for anyone who remembers the song we posted  last year called The rose of the Vales, the name and lyrics may have a tiny bit more meaning now. The song was written and sung by our sound designer , although it is just a background song for an Inn  somewhere in Crimson Eclipse, the lyrics also ever so slightly hints to the listener as to the hardness of the Valelands and its people  through the inn song. Personally, I love little subtle additions like this in games in genral , that can be overlooked by just a casual listener, but also has a little meaning or purpose even if only very subtle to give more of a feel for the overall game world. I’ll put a link to the song below if anyone wants to take another listen. , Regarding release dates to answer James Potters question, we don’t have a release date for either Crimson Eclipse or Sable yet, but our intention is to release our game first, this will let us fully showcase Sable and what it is capable of, whilst at the same time demonstrating the types of games we as a games studio ourselves want to produce. it will also allow us to fully wroad test Sable and make any additions or apply any fine tuning adjustments needed to Sable. Anyway, thanks everyone for the positive comments on the game description, below is the link to the Crimson Eclipse Inn song for anyone who wants to take a listen:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvIjWpi … mp;index=3Paul LemEbon Sky Studiosemail: i...@ebonskystudios.comFacebook: https://m.facebook.com/ebonskystudios/Twitter: @ebonskystudios

Re: cheap cloud desktops

Linux is flat out easier on a server, unless you're running Windows-only software.  If you're deciding that Windows is easier on a server, you must be doing something very strange.Linux servers and Linux desktops are different beasts entirely.  The amount of resources poured into making Linux good for servers is around as much as Microsoft put into making Windows good for desktops, to put this in perspective.  Linux desktop isn't so great because it gets a tiny, tiny fraction of the Linux development pie.Explain Windows permissions for a really good example of what I mean.  Linux has some advanced stuff there but chown, chmod, and maybe one or two other commands are all you need to understand to do it.  Windows is like "open the policy manager and dig down through these 5 control panels, but only if you have defrombulated the admin frombulator" or whatever.Couple Windows server management being a special hell where sysadmins go to die with having to access it via a screen reader with the added inherent lag and by the way it's more expensive...how about no.

They must have seriously upped their game recently though, I had a vultr at the beginning of the year back when I was hosting bloodbath, $20 / month for, if memory serves, a gigabyte of ram and a single core. Pretty shitty if you ask me, I'm not surprised that stupid thing lagged to hell and back at the best of times, windows server was probably eating about 80% of that ram all on its own.As much as I like linux, there's no denying that it's just more of a pain in the ass to deal with in general. Of course there are certain exceptions such as web hosting, which from my experience is hyper complicated on windows even just getting apache, not to mention windows firewall just, seriously needs to go away. For ever. Besides that, though, if given the choice I'd almost always rather be working with windows.

Re: Backup Utilities for Windows?

Make sure you're selective when copying appdata. At minimum, exclude cache, microsoft, Microsoft_Corporation, temp and whatever else exists and looks to be unnecessary from Local and Roaming. The bulk of LocalLow can also probably go.Desktop, Favorites, Links, Searches and Tracing are probably redundant.Basically what I'm saying is copying/pasting your entire user folder probably won't be viable. Take what you need and fuck the rest. If you use the builtin refresh utility, which probably isn't the best idea for reasons outlined by others, you get a windows.old that tries it's best to exclude system files.

Not that it couldn't be done, I just don't know how to use the #action system in tt++.

Lol he couldn't really charge for extra voices or sounds or whatever, since they're all unencrypted and people could just pass them around. There are potential ways of mitigating this serverside, but it would be hacky as hell, you'd have to have the client return all of the voices or whatever, then check to make sure that player isn't using anything they shouldn't be using. Or perhaps I'm just overthinking this.

Re: Creating a code free RPG using Sable(video 14), by Ebon Sky Studios

Hi,Pleased you liked the game description, I’ve obviously read the full script for the game, although I can’t give any more details  at this stage, I can say as a huge RPG fan myself I think the game design team have done a fantastic job. Actually  the game description above mentions the Valelands, for anyone who remembers the song we posted  last year called The rose of the Vales, the name and lyrics may have a tiny bit more meaning now. The song was written and sung by our sound designer , although it is just a song for an Inn  somewhere in Crimson Eclipse, the lyrics also ever so slightly hints to the listener as to the hardness of the Valelands and its people  through the inn song. Personally, I love little subtle additions like this in games in genral , that can be overlooked by just a casual listener, but also has a little meaning or purpose even if only very subtle to give more of a feel for the overall game world. I’ll put a link to the song below if anyone wants to take another listen. , Regarding release dates to answer James Potters question, we don’t have a release date for either Crimson Eclipse or Sable yet, but our intention is to release our game first, this will let us fully road test Sable and make any additions or apply any fine tuning adjustments needed to Sable.

This is so right it's not even funny except in a tragic kind of sense... lol. Swamp with extra voices wouldn't be surprising... it's a game that could probably do with a bit of dlc. Extra rep purchasable once a month, different voice packs, basic permanent gear loadouts maybe. The possibilities are endless... and one day Swamp won't even let you play ofline without an internet connection to track offline stats or something.

Simply speak the words and they’ll appear on-screen. Screen Reader provides blind and low vision users with options to hear on-screen textthis makes me wonder if they have made iit into something good, so that they can actually call it that. Aperently TTS and screen reader are not the same if you look at the top of the article.

If all else, send them into a repair shop, explain your position, and maybe if they're feeling generous they'll discount your repair. I imagine they're using electrit mics as any headset does, and those things are cheap as all hell and extremely sensitive. Be more careful with them than yo uwould a ribbon mic.

Re: Vast Horizon (new game)

OK, while far from complete, I feel that this has some of the basics in place and is ready for some early testing.Vast Horizons SOund Pack  for MUSHclientHere are some things of note.1. This assumes you have MUSH-Z, if so, just drop it in your worlds file.2. It assumes that you have the following plugins installed. These can either be done globally (via CTRL+ALT+G or ALT+F then G), or through the plugins list (CTRL+SHIFT+P or ALT+F then U). MUSH reader, output_functions, channel_history and lua audio.3. There is no user-friendly volume control, sorry about that, it's on the road map for sure. If you need to change the volume, enter this command \gv=n where n is in the range 1 to 100. There will also be separate volume controls for different things coming down the line.4. I made this to suit my needs, not anyone else's. I'm happy to accept well thought out suggestions, but if I don't like it, I ain't doing it. You're free to take this and use it as a base for your own if you like, so long as when you release it, you credit me somewhere pertinent, such as in a readme file or on a website.5. This will probably never be as rich a sound pack as others. I just really don't care about music and ambiance, and I'm too lazy to do them.6. I can't do things like automatic this, monitoring that and taking some action on your behalf like I do on other MUD packs, because the rules of Vast Horizon forbids it. In other words, I can't make a script that monitors your ship for damage and lets you know via an alarm when it is critical, nor can I make something similar to monitor your suit's oxygen supply and let you know when it is low.7. This pack was made such that it complies with the game's policies. I disclaim any and all responsibility over what folks might do with it once they have it in their hands. Similarly, I disclaim any and all responsibility should the pack destroy your computer or should some disaster befall you soon after downloading/opening the pack.All that being said, if you like it, let me know. Similarly, if you don't like a particular sound, let me know. I will fix it when I get a chance. But it will be on my time. Remember, this is for me first, and everyone else second.If you encounter any problems, or need help installing it let me know. probably the best way is through discord, or here in this topic. My discord is ironcross#8090. I don't use skype anymore, and rarely check emails, more rare still do I check the forum PM's.

How's this for an insect team: Centiplex, Bombusect, Sylphantom, Trumer, Rumblebee, and Symphonid. This is gonna be really iffy in some places. I thought about putting Daggeetle somewhere in there, but, this thing just looks meh. And Skirial was pretty much the way you bulled through the first stadium in the first game, but that was pretty much it. Has it gotten any better in this game? And my Bombusect got that critical hit thing where it gets its strength boosted. I kind of wanted parasitic but I guess this could work as long as it doesn't just die straight away.

Re: Accessible digital map solutions

Hm, an interesting problem in term's of spatialization. I know of a number of sources for tactile mapping systems, digging around however there are a few digital variants that may be promising. The first project is [Open Street Maps For The Blind], another few can be found [here], or Googles new navigation assistant features [here]. There's a few other tidbits [here] and [here].@2Are you referring to [gmaps]?

I feel like this game would be 10 times better without the racing. lol. Just play to your strength which is the point and click sections.
