Re: Help finding a Atari emulator.

@Cyco Ah, now you're talking classics. The arcade versions of those games were great! Frogger would be an interesting one to tackle. The game play is simple enough, but helping the player understand the speed and position of what is beside them, ahead of them and behind them would be a fascinating challenge.

Re: Help finding a Atari emulator.

@Cyco Strangely, going back to games you liked 30 years ago can be deflating. I spent hundreds of hours playing the Atari 2600 games, absolutely hooked by them. But, now, a handful at best will keep my attention for longer than 10 minutes. I realise I'm drawn to them now because of the nostalgia of them.Recreating audio versions would be tricky from an intellectual property perspective, but, even if you could, I'd suggest that it would be far better to create new, more interesting audio games than trying to recreate nostalgia that's wrapped up in more than just the game play and awesomely chunky sound effects.

Re: Help finding a Atari emulator.

@Cyco Really curious as to why you're interested in Atari 2600 games. I grew up on that console. In addition to emulation devices, there have been a number of Atari Flashback retro console remakes, collections on Xbox and PlayStation, including PSP, and a PC version of 100 Atari games (called Atari Vault, I think) released on Steam in 2016. As to how accessible they are, I doubt they're very accessible at all. While the game play in many is simple, I don't think they have the audio sophistication to convey where things are in the game space.

@ianhamilton_Love your thoughts on the idea. It's funny you should go down this path. We will be announcing Blind Sparrow Interactive's first development project on Monday. It's a small project, but currently in final QA.It's not this. But your line of thinking sounds very much like what ours was, in a slightly different direction.

Re: Munchkin

Wow, I am so glad I found this thread. In my time outside of the studio, I've been working on a tabletop game with a colleague and we've been discussing all kinds of ways to make the game blind accessible. We've been talking about ensuring each marker is of a different size or shape. But the use of QR codes - which we could incorporate into a card's print design - is genius, particularly when wanting to communicate several sentences of relevant text.I wonder if there have been any applications where a QR code like scanning app could be pointed over the top of a group of non-numerical dice and it could read out what is on the top-most face of each die. Using the game Zombie Dice as an example, could you roll the dice in a dice tray, then hold a phone over the top and it could tell you how many brains, shotgun blasts or feet were showing and what colour they were?

Re: are side scrollers being scrolled off to the side now/

@dark With regards to the acceleration and deceleration of Mario, would an ascending and descending audio cue be helpful? Or would you be able to quickly cue into a sped up or slowed down walk or run audio based on the sound of footsteps? If I remember correctly from the original Super Mario Brothers there's no sound of feet at all when moving. Above ground, there's just a pattering sound as part of the soundtrack, which is really disconcerting.

@dardar Are you mostly thinking about side scrolling platformers or side scrolling endless runners? I guess you'd call Feer a first person endless runner.

I can certainly vouch for Brandon. He's only done a couple of hours of consultancy for my studio, but it has been utterly invaluable. If we could afford it, I'd be getting him on board for weekly check-ups, rather than just at critical stages. He has a keen mind, a strong sense of worth, and a tenacity to succeed at the dream he holds in his heart. At the very least, go follow him on Twitter.
