Re: Anyone know what's up with Draconis?

Fair point, though I specifically meant using the .net framework instead of the VB6 runtime components. In either case it would require work but so does making a program designed to use the VB6 runtimes run happily on modern versions of Windows, in the long run the VB runtimes are a losing proposition and itll take increasing amounts of work with every new iteration of Windows to keep them running while introducing more and more problems like with VipMud and the insistence on keeping the script files in the program directory.

Im sure if you wrote an entry for a mud which qualified for a DB entry the DB maintainers would be happy to copy and paste it into the DB, usual caviats about whether the mud qualifies and the quality of english still applying of course.Hope I didnt just speak out of turn here since Im no longer involved in this, it just seems a simple matter to take a submission for a mud which needs an entry anyway from someone who has experience with the game.

The key to foraging is either forage everything or nothing, if you forage only the good stuff that means the bad stuff will remain and not be replaced so youll end up with a situation where only the bad stuff exists. This is extremely frustrating for other players. Also a nice little note, you have two extra options with trees. First up you can chop the large logs into rough split logs, then chop the split logs into blocks. These blocks can be carved into trinkets which you can sell at the market, and you can get a lot of blocks from a tree. I managed to get 8 split logs from one large log without using up the large log, I gave up at that point because these 8 split logs gave me 16 blocks in all and I wasnt going to sit around all day havi
ng my character chop away at these logs. The price you get for trinkets varies based on quality of course but even the worst quality ones give you 6 riln each, so those 16 blocks became 96 riln in my pocket. The other thing you can do is get a handsaw and saw flitches into planks, you only seem to get one plank per flitch though. The value of the flitches and planks I was working with was 30 riln for the bottom quality plank and 36 for the flitch so that is a loss, but it lets you practice your carpentry skill without losing too much money and higher quality planks are probably worth more than the flitch. Thats not counting the ability to then go on and produce your own furniture items either for your own use or for sale to other players. And remember the herbs which are especially valued for their use in poultices. Comfrey, Fraer root and Yora root are very rare and always in high demand while arnica and bloodwort are still well valued. Consider selling these over
ESP instead of to the markets.Oh and if you get a spider while logging please ask over ESP for help dealing with it, if not the spider will sit there and could ambush other players. I had a nasty run in with one a day or two ago on my way back from chapter house and nearly couldnt escape it because it kept webbing me.

I dont think its busy people so much as one busy person. Like most audio game companies Draconis is pretty much one guy, Josh de Lioncourt, in his spare time. Thats why the output of so many audio game devs has such an inconsistent release rate.Still at least unlike certain other devs, cough, Draconis arent clinging to massively outdated runtimes in order to make their games work.

Its a fighting game using characters from the DC comics like batman and superman, made by the same people as Mortal Kombat. I believe the accessibility mode just beeps when theres an interactible object in the background to let you know its there, these objects arent strictly speaking necessary to play the game but I believe they have special effects like doing extra damage by blowing up and damaging your opponent and so on.

Re: I Really Need A Gaming Headset

I just realised, I have one of the Turtle Beach DSS2 units and it can be used with pretty much any console and any standard 3.5mm headphones. It connects via optical toslink so it should work with pretty much any modern console out there whether it be the newer X bone and PS4 or the older X360 and PS3. It wont give you a headset microphone if you do it this way but you can use whatever headphones you already may have, or may buy in the future. It requires a USB port purely for power since it does signal processing and creates virtual surround as well as generally enhancing the audio, and yes it does make a difference even just listening to music, and it also gives you a USB pass through port for power in case your headphones use USB for a power boost. You could even get a toslink switch so you can swap the optical input source, and it has a 3.5mm auxiliary input if youd rather just plug your computer in with a 3.5mm male to male cable and swap between the sources with
the box, plus an old fashioned volume knob.

Depends what you want it for and what your standards are. My X12s worked pretty well as a general purpose headset, and at £40 I couldnt complain. The ability to throw in the DSS2 surround sound emulation box in later on was just a bonus, though it probably still wouldnt be up to the standards of an audiophile its pretty good for an average person and really quite affordable.

Dark, a very few muds do indeed not save your equipment. That was part of the reason I gave up on SWMud, the other part being that it was essentially just a grind fest. To compensate the games usually have equipment readily available but it isnt condusive to casual play and I like being able to customise my equipment so if like me you enjoy getting attached to your gear its irritating.

Re: Clok Mud

You can check out most abilities on wiki.contrarium.net to see what each of the guilds do. Mercenaries get tasks to either kill X number of enemies in a set area, kill a particularly powerful enemy of a given type in a set area, or chase off a highwayman in a given area which involves wandering the roads in that region until you find the highwayman and either killing them or forcing them to flee. Mercenaries also interestingly get guild points for the act of fighting itself, which helps the rate of advancement, though unlike tasks this doesnt give you extra money. The first ability a mercenary will want is basic melee training which gives you an automatic bonus of 50 to each of melee, dodge and armour use, the next youll want is basic weapon training which gives you an automatic 50 to various weapon skills but this doesnt include all of them, you only get a bonus to chained, hafted, polearms and swords. You can also get armour mastery apprentice which gives you a
n automatic 100 to your armour use skill plus a ten percent reduction to encumberance, putting you at 150 armour use with basic melee training. Tactics mastery lets you change tactics type without a round time but its most useful as a requirement for other abilities further on, you can then take multi opponent combat which counteracts some of the penalty for fighting multiple enemies at once, the ability to do a spin attack to hit multiple enemies, the ability to do a shoulder charge to knock the enemy down, the ability to do a coup de mort to finish off an enemy and so on. The downside is they only have combat abilities and nothing else. The guild of thieves is one of those guilds you have to join through roleplay, unfortunately you cant just go up to an NPC and join like some of the guilds, you have to track down a member and convince them to tell you how to join or something. Just be aware that neither thieves nor Utasa are as heavily focussed on combat and both
rely on little or no armour, so like your Udemi theyll need to use the dodge skill to avoid being hit rather than using armour to minimise damage. Both thieves and Utasa I believe have tasks to break into homes, not player homes these ones seem specially generated for the tasks, the difference is the Utasa must copy down something on a piece of paper using a quill and parchment then put back the original and not disturb anything or else theyll be punished whereas thieves are told to steal a particular item and bring it back, they are then free to pilfer everything else in the place including any money lieing around. Its the difference between an espionage task for the Utasa where the victim cant know anything untoward has happened for fear that they might change their plans if they suspect that the information has become known, while the thieves get a straight up burglary task.In case you do decide to go Udemi Dark, their tasks will at least consist o
f finding a given amount of herbs to bring back to the taskmaster which may sometimes include grinding them first so check whether theyre asking for fresh or for a quality such as inferior average or potent, killing X number of infested in a given area which will be chosen based on your combat skills, or killing a single particularly problematic infested creature in a given area which again is dependent on your skills. For the latter you can just stand around in the same room so long as youre in the right area and the creature will eventually show up on its own, I normally hide as well so I can get a surprise attack in though you will have to be patient and wait a minute or two for it to show up. I dont know if Udemi get any other kinds of task, I would presume so given those three types are all shared with Utasa, in fact I dont think foraging makes sense for the Utasa branch given theyre meant to be focussed on urban areas but thats just my opini
on.In case you havent discovered it the following herbs are valuable because of their use in poulticesComfrey, extremely rareFraer root, extremely rareYora root, rare but less so than the previous twoBloodwort, not to be confused with bloodstem, less rare but still in limited supplyArnica, only grows in alpine areas which usually means mountain passes, it isnt the most rare but the areas it grows in are few and many of them are dangerous because of bandits.Bitterleaf is also used in poultices but its common enough it probably isnt all that valuable, though you could always try or else grind it up and sell off the potent stuff. Poultice list tells you what poultices are available to be made but you need 50 herbalism to see the list, the easiest poultice I find is the 105 which is two arnica, two bloodwort and 1 bitterleaf, the quality depends on the potency of the ingredients and you dont seem to make a test to
make them so you wont fail. That poultice will eventually heal any severity of wound, or for as long as the bandage holds out which is affected by your first aid

Joining a guild will only help you though dont feel you have to rush into tasks, and make sure you feel youve settled on who you want to join.Corpse retreivel is simple in concept, you find the corpse, drag it and take it to the nearest soul beacon which is usually a church, or player monks can sometimes be willing to resurrect them. To find the corpse you need to get a murky blue black crystal, available in the mummer camp two rooms south of the shoreside docks near Mistral Lake, and when someone looks at the bell you hear the death knell and see the room their corpse is in. The crystal must be attached to your ESP pendant, hold one in each hand and type attach. Id attach it to a permanant

If you have a permanant pendant already the temporary one has become worthless so you might as well swap them over and get the old one out of the way rather than it failing at an inconvenient moment, plus its one less item to worry about. You can type esp rescue to send a pulse responding to the death knell so they know youre on your way. Standard code is one rescue pulse means youre on route or looking for them, two means youve found them and are taking them to safety, three means their corpse is safe and is waiting to be revived. As a note some rooms offer soul retrieval instead of a soul beacon, this is where a rook NPC revives them instead of a monk. Some people may not find this acceptable because it involves sorcery, and even if theyre revived theyll have a
lingering sorcerous taint which theyll need to get a monk or templar to burn away with thaumaturgy within 24 hours or itll stick, and if it sticks theyll be harmed by thaumaturgy not healed by it.

You can join by going to the barracks in the northwest of Haiban. That said the need for bandages, healing and equipment repairs has meant my mercenary has taken a while to break even on tasks, even including money looted from the enemies. If you get tired just sit or lay for a little while and itll gradually let you recover, remember to check your hunger as well at this point.

Re: Clok Mud

Backpacks can hold larger items than your sack, theres a limit on the size of item each container can hold. I believe backpacks can go up to large while sacks or satchels only go up to medium. I mostly just use the sack for keeping the herbs seperated, because I want to keep the herbs I want to hold onto away from the ones I want to sell. That way I can just sell sack and everything in the sack gets sold. That said containers do have their own weight so you might want to check that, you can weigh item but its not always accurate so you will want to do it a few times and average it out, if you want to travel really lightly a backpack may or may not be the best bet depending on its weight compared to other containers. That said if you want to travel really, really light a lot of the cloaks but not all are containers so you can throw your rations and bandages in there.

Re: Clok Mud

Backpacks are shoulder, though you can keep your sack in it like I do, I use my sack specifically for foraging. You can also store items in banks, hold the item and appraise it and itll tell you how much the storage cost is, then type store item. Its a one time fee and you can type check vault to see what you have stored, then retrieve number to get it back. Rented rooms are 50 riln per night in Shadgarde but can vary in other places, and dont leave anything on the floor, there is furniture in the room description you can use to keep your items safe but anything left on the floor will disappear. You can pay rent for up to 14 days ahead, but if it runs out items will be put into the inns vault which works exactly like the bank vault except you have to pay to get items back out instead of paying to put them in.

Re: Clok Mud

Dont bother with infested meat unless you want to become infested yourself, and thus be unable to enter towns without being attacked and likely have other players attack you. Whoever put the meat there was either new or trolling. That said the infested animals in and near Terueka are quite nice to practice on if you can handle the ambush attacks from the squirrels, and the occasional infested carrier.Dark, you need the target command. Something like tar squirrel, then fire or barrage to continually fire. The quiver will be used automatically, and you can gather arrow when done to get them back in your quiver. The target command is essential when hunting, which you do by going to a non road part of the wilderness typing hide then typing hunt. Be prepared to take quite a few attempts at the hunt command because its random whether you get something or not. As for encumbrance just type enc and itll give you a vague notion of how much weight youre carryin
g, and yes items in containers do count.Pick axes are indeed just a tool but logging axes also make decent weapons if you were going the axes route, Ive done over 100 damage on rare occasions with one. Both will fit in a haft frog, though as you say belt and shoulder slots are limited. I often find Im balancing the types of containers I carry, including ammo containers and the like, to make the most of my four belt and three shoulder slots. Unfortunately there are no shoulder worn containers for axes, only the swords have a choice in the form of a belt worn scabbard or a shoulder worn baldrick. If youre carrying an axe just to make a fire heres a few tips. First up you can forage for branches or for deadwood, deadwood is easier than finding branches but cant be carved and has a random chance of giving you a deadwood log instead. You can also forage for sticks. With either a logging axe, hand axe or great axe you can chop two large branches
of either kind into two medium branches, and a medium branch into two small branches. Chopping a small branch or a stick will give you kindling, you can also hold the branch or stick and type break if you dont have an axe. Carving a branch, though I dont know if this works with deadwood branches, removes the bark which falls to the ground as shavings, this is used as tinder so I usually carry some with me in multiples of 3, the stave you get as a result still counts as a branch of the relevant size for the purposes of the fire. A campfire as far as I recall requires 3 tinder, 4 kindling and at least 3 branches but the more branches you have the longer it will burn for, type campfire to see how much you have and need. Once you have enough campfire make will assemble the fire, then light teepee and you will attempt to use firestones to light it. You can also add item to campfire to keep it burning longer. I dont find I have to do it often but its good to know h
ow to do, and if you forage for sticks and break them into kindling you dont even need an axe though an axe can help chopping the bigger branches to size.

It can be, though this seems to ease a little with the armour use skill, unless thats just from my mercenary having armour mastery. In any event soft leather will give you a little encumbrance and hard leather a fair amount, though Id be tempted to leave the logging axe behind unless youre using it at the time. Those things are fairly weighty. Of course if youre not planning on fighting being somewhat encumbered wontn be that much of a problem.

The wagon in Keth, I think it was a wagon, is in the centre of the village, it could have been a cart or something similar.Dark, while you can use arrow heads you can also sharpen the arrow to just put a sharpened point on the end of the shaft instead of using an arrowhead. Also remember you can gather arrow to pick up any arrows when youre finished and put them back in your quiver. From what I can tell crafting arrows works as follows:Carve the arrow from a small bstave, that is a small branch with the shavings carved off. I like to carry some of the shavings in case I need tinder for a campfire but thats just me.Cut nock to put a nock in the arrowMeasure arrow, this requires you to have a bow with youcut end, this cuts the arrow to sizeFletch arrow, this requires you to have both feathers and sinew. Note the sinew has to be cut before use.Either attach the arrowhead or sharpen shaft to give it a point. All that s
aid shop bought arrows are only 5 riln so I wouldnt worry too much about fletching early on, just make sure you account for the number youll lose either from flying off into the distance or from getting stuck in enemies which run off. If you prefer slings are also available and the ammunition is free, you just go somewhere in the wilderness, somewhere near a river is best, and forage stone. You can also hurl these if you so wish. When I went to emleth I used the map from the crossroads and just worked it out from the coordinates, using map nearby. Ive not been back since I didnt see anything that interesting.Oh and Dark, dont necessarily rule out using other melee weapons. Your staffs skill wont help the other weapons but youll also have been building the generic melee skill which will, not to mention your dodge skill. In fact my Utasa is probably going to swap to an iron rapier so I might send you my old steel one.

The catch with crafting is the quality of the resulting item is dependent on how much grinding youve done. The iron bound staffs are available in Mistral and Haiban I believe but sadly not Shadgarde.I wasnt going to mention the route to chapter house since its supposedly secret but heres my route: From Haiban go southwest twice, go south till you find the dark clearing, then head due west until you hit the emberberry thicket, then go pass and follow it round, then once out in the wilderness go southwest and go hill.Another useful command is area which tells you what area youre in, especially handy when you get tasks asking you to go to a specific area. From the fork at the saucy templar north of shadgarde you can get to a hamlet called Keth really easily, just go northeast twice and north three times then go trail. In there is a wagon I believe which sells a huge variety of tools, including skinning knives which supposedly give a b
onus to skinning that I havent seen anywhere else. They also sell just about every other tool you could possibly want, including cooking equipment.

There are painted arrows? I guess its probably just for style.Ive had a look in the shadgarde graveyard at the nethrim and its quite a bit harder than before the reshuffle they did recently. There used to be infested squirrels and rats, now there are skeletons and phantoms and the phantoms are the incorporeal kind that take very little physical damage. Where Im doing 1 or 2 physical damage to them with my Utasa Id normally be doing more like 10 to 30 to a normal enemy. Thats why I advocate the use of really fast iron weapons against the nethrim, since the alchemical damage you do will outpace the physical damage and the amount of alchemical damage doesnt seem to be affected by the weapons own damage so you get just as much with a staff or dagger as with a greataxe.

General rule, if in doubt follow the roads, and maps can be helpful in a limited fashion since you need to be at a landmark to use them.Weapons shops tend to come in a couple of varieties. In Shadgarde you have the bowier just east from the room where you enter the gatehouse, though note they only sell copper arrows and Mistral or Haiban will sell you iron ones for the exact same price, and going southeast from there then east again gets you to the room with the blacksmiths shop but again youre better off going elsewhere to get iron or steel which are stronger aside from anything else. In Mistral from where you exit the docks onto waterside way head east twice, northwest, north, west and you should be able to find the geistbane weapons shop which sells all the different kinds of iron weapons you could want though I forget where the bowier is. Mistrals tanner is two east from the town square. To get to Haiban first go to the valerian crossroads as I mention
ed earlier, then head northwest until you cant go any further. There should be patrolmen coming in and out of a pass, join one and be ready to leave their group quickly when they exit to the wilderness at the other end, theyll not only guide you but fight off any nasties on the way. Dont bother trying to fight any mobs in there, just try to keep yourself out the way and let the guards handle it. If there arent any patrols, sometimes they get overwhelmed, you can go pass and follow it around in the same way as with the Shadgarde canyon but be very careful and do it as quickly as you can without loitering because there are bandits and wolves. Once out of the pass head northwest then north, go gate, then go arch to enter Haiban. Haibans weapons shop is north then east, and everythings under one roof but you have to use the custom ordering process to customise a lot of the weapons, this doesnt cost any more if you only get the basics and doesn

You can also get utility belts which can store tiny items, this includes herbs, fire stones and so on, and a lot of cloaks can store items as well. Keeping your money in a worn container will also prevent it from being dropped if you die.To be honest theres not much advantage to going over 70 with herbalism, you can make poultices at 50 but youll need a mortar and pestle along with some pieces of cloth that can be bought from infirmaries. Typing poultice list will show you the different kinds you can make if youre at that required level.

Itll take a fair few sessions but its definitely one of the less problematic skills to raise. If youre having trouble with the shades in the mines at Shadgarde just make sure youre using an iron pick not a copper one, iron ones are easily available from Mistral Lake, because the alchemical damage makes a lot of difference. Also try not to get too tired while mining, I usually stop as soon as I turn from winded to tired just in case something creeps up on me. The same thing can sometimes help with logging too, especially if you get a spider falling out of the tree which happens sometimes.

First up typing armor, note the american spelling, lets you see what armour slots you have and gives you a quick way to check on the condition of it all.Ill also add that you can wear up to three items on your shoulders, and that staffs can go into a pole harness which is worn on the shoulders. You can also get backpacks which are noticeably bigger than your starting sack will be. I only use my Parrens sack these days for foraging to keep things seperated.Lockpicking is restricted to certain guilds more or less and the Udemi arent one of them Im afraid so youll have to either use the NPC locksmiths orask around for someone to pick the boxes for you, the latter usually costs less.Oh and Dark, a word of warning. Try not to buy metal items from Shadgarde. Lanterns are fine but everything else is bad, for around the same price you can usually get an iron or steel version which is not only more durable but does alchemical damage to net
hrim. I usually manage to get around 12 alchemical damage from iron weapons and around 5 from steel, in addition to any damage the weapon may inflict naturally. Thats why I think one of the best ways to deal with nethrim is to go with really fast weapons, that way the ghost like incorporeal nethrim suffer repeated alchemical damage to make up for not taking physical damage. I think the ghosts in the shadgarde mine do take a small amount of physical damage at least though, and any spirits you find wandering around the world that are outdoors and not in a specific nethrim heavy area like a graveyard do tend to fade away.Oh and if ESP gets too much you can type tune gray to tune out the channel, again note the american spelling, but your starter pendant wont last long and youll eventually need to buy yourself a full one from a post office which is an eye watering 300 riln. At least its eye watering when youre just getting started.

Re: Clok Mud

The battle command should automatically attack when the timer hits, attack is used for a single attack like you describe and there is the barrage command which autofires ranged weapons or trance for autofiring spells. I agree about hand carts and mines being a pest, though you could always buy candles which are rather cheap so you could drop a few of them along the route you want to take. Just watch your firestones as well though because they eventually wear out.The Udemi are Cloks druidic rangers, they have a mix of druidry abilities combined with the usual stealth and bow related abilities and some survivalism stuff thrown in. The infested arent always that terrible once you get your skills up a bit, it all depends on which infested. The basic infested carriers that wander around near and in the Terueka environs arent too bad, though once you get to the infested labourers or guards in Terueka or the mobs in the infested village things get harder. I usual
ly find the Shadgarde graveyard a decent place to practice fighting, though I highly recommend you take an iron weapon and that includes iron banded staffs.Glad my tip about flitches was helpful. As your mining progresses and you start getting decent amounts of gems or ore you can refine them as well,n though they often require a different permit for each to use the relevant areas. Smelting ore is probably your best bet of the two, though dont accidentally mix metals in the furnace or you might end up with a load of slag. The room with the furnace usually has a sign with recipes for different metals like bronze or steel, getting the wrong ratio or wrong combination of metals will just give you the slag that is no use to anyone. Oh and sometimes players will ask on the ESP about certain resources such as flitches or metals, so it might be worth asking if anyones willing to give you a better price on your flitches.

Re: Clok Mud

The staff is available in both Haiban and Mistral I believe, and the iron does alchemical damage to nethrim which are basically undead. A lot of the ghost like nethrim are almost immune to physical attacks so the alchemical damage becomes really important. The mining doesnt pay much for me either, Ive dabbled and mostly have only done it to practice up my skill. What I meant with candles is theyre only 3 riln each so you could line the tunnel with them ahead of time, itd eat up what little profit you get but as I said my goal wasnt to make profit so much as to get my skill level up. For money foraging is the simplest I find, I normally go southwest of Haiban where there are literally no mobs of any kind agressive or otherwise, or logging. I can get 600 riln or more with a good session of foraging but it depletes the area so it isnt repeatable, logging is more repeatable but sometimes a druidic type may complain youre overdoing it and
harming the gaia so keep the ESP tuned in just in case.My usual pattern for foraging is go to Haiban, go southwest once and forage there, go west once and forage there, head south foraging each square, head west once then south as far as I can and forage there and every square up north till I hit the road, west once and forage southward. It starts off funny because the first two columns are shorter than the rest but after that its just foraging lines north and south. One thing I like to do is drop into the infirmary and get some herbalism training then forage till that runs out, though bear in mind the increases in herbalism apparently level off at about 70 skill or so.Out of curiosity what race did you choose? I know it doesnt make a difference mechanically but Im curious thematically.

The basic training and armour mastery abilities are nice too, with basic melee training and basic weapon training you jump straight to 50 in most of the relevant abilities for a warrior type, and between armour mastery apprentice giving 100 in armour use and the 50 from basic melee training that gives you 150 armour use, going up to 300 with armour use journeyman which you only need to earn 50 more skill points to meet the requirements for. Also heres a tip Ive found, if you ever want to work on thrown weapons skill just forage for stones ahead of time and throw those at the enemies since theyre free. Re: Clok Mud

The RP very much depends on the individuals, some people are quite good while there are times someone tells me to chill and I die a little inside. As for skills and training they can be rather slow especially for crafting, how it works is when you buy training you receive one extra skill point in the skill then for the next 2.5 skill points you earn the game doubles it to represent you putting your tuition to practical use. This means you effectively get a total of 3.5 extra points compared to how much you normally get. The rolls such as for herbalism are between 0 and your skill plus a hundred, thus 30 herbalism gives you from 0 to 130 as your roll. Just as another note going above 50 herbalism lets you create poultices, though getting the ingredients can be tricky. The skills tend to go up by tiny amounts normally, maybe 0.05 per success increasing with the difficulty of the roll and they only go up on a success.A lot of the mobs are quite tricky and I find them difficult
myself, though you can get rid of starving animals by carrying around a couple bits of raw meat and dropping one on the floor which the animal will then run off with. The tools are indeed quite specific, though if you look at the information in the shop it tells you exactly what each tool can be used for. Carving branches also seems to take a hellishly long time.Heres some advice regarding combat commands. First up is position, your choices are avoid which means youre trying to stay out of a fight altogether and the enemy finds it difficult to get to you in melee, ranged where you can shoot spells or other weapons at them but they still have to make a test to advance on you though it may not be as hard as for avoid, and engaged which means youre in melee. Thats fairly self explanatory, and in some cases ranged weapons will automatically try to keep you at ranged while using barrage while if you use battle itll automatically try to move into enga
ged position. Think of it as being like short and medium ranges in smugglers 3. Next are tactics, none is the basic standard while offensive gives you a bonus to attack but a penalty to defence while dodge, parry or block give you a bonus to defence but a penalty to attack. These are basically stances. Dodge works best if youre not weighed down with armour but even with heavy armour you can still get some use out of it, block is for shields and parry is for parrying with your weapon and both of these depend on your weapon or shields ability to block or parry. Also of note is the health command which can not only tell you about your own injuries, but you can use health target to see how badly injured an opponent is. This works well in conjunction with the aim command, you can aim none or aim body part, you dont have any extra trouble hitting the opponent but the attack cool off is increased to 6 seconds and youre not guaranteed to hit the locatio
n you want. Eyes and neck are particularly difficult to hit. Any vital location that receives 100 damage will cause an instant kill, or 50 in the case of eyes, so specifically aiming for vital locations that have taken a decent amount of damage already can help take an enemy down faster. Vital areas are abdomen, chest, back, neck, eyes and head. Beware though because the same applies to player characters.Dont rush into guilds, get a feel for the game and which aspects you enjoy first. Theres nothing wrong with staying guildless even though itd take some work to make the character more interesting in my opinion. If you see Hidrin, Kharda or Nalsa drop me a tell and Ill see what help I cant give you, though unfortunately I havent got around to signing up with the BBS thus far so I cant help with that.

Re: Some tips for people trying to start out with game design

Aaron, to be honest one of the issues is people have sometimes seemed to think they have to release anything they produce. Sometimes its worth just throwing something small together like a guess the number game to see how the code works and just play around with it, then write it off as a learning experience and use it as a stepping stone to bigger and better things.

Two steps from hell, thats from instead of to, are composers who make music which was originally designed for recutting to use in movie trailers but theyve since released them to the public, you can buy them on iTunes I dont know about anywhere else and most of their stuff is on youtube. The majority of it is the kind of thing youd get from a fantasy films soundtrack, especially more action oriented sequences, though theres a surprising variety including ones that are more gentle. I believe their stuff has even been used in trailers for Doctor Who on the TV in the past, I know I hear them in the background of an advert every so often. Like I said theyre orchestral but theyre not shy of mixing in other kinds of sound when it suits the theme theyre going for, theyre what you might call neo classical in that their style is different from traditional classical music while still using many of the same instruments.
Heres one of their tracks, Strength of a Thousand Men

Well if you havent tried two steps from hell I highly recommend them regardless of whether you intend to use it for games or not, theyre orchestral epic fantasy music. I can see your point about shifting environments but I tend to just go with a generic bunch of fantasy style music so theres at least something in the background, I find it oils my brain a little.

Re: is world of tanks playable?

Driving round doing nothing but shooting at other tanks? Having to deal with random groups where people may or may not have a clue about how to play, what tactics work for a particular objective or map, or simply not care and either drive round just shooting everything and ignoring the objectives or simply sit in the corner and do nothing to try and gain resources off the back of everyone elses efforts? Ill take a pass thanks. These kinds of purely PVP games would be the most difficult to handle in any case since reaction speed and ability to take in and process as much information as possible as quickly as possible are the keys, and even a slight hesitation will result in either an opponent taking advantage of an opening against you before you can prevent it or you missing an opening against an opponent. Im not saying we should be excluded from PVP games, Im just pointing out that action focussed PVP games in a full 3D environment are by far and away
the most difficult for us to even approach the same level of effectiveness as a sighted player and this being the internet people will take advantage of that ruthlessly.

Re: Looking for a free fantasy adventure game that I can play on my PC

If youre paying by the megabyte maybe youll want to consider if you can spare a few for mudding, if your allowance is in the gigabyte range mudding will struggle to make a dent though as Dentin mentioned the client and sounds can weigh in at quite a size. Also dont forget that you can set up your own sounds for muds to have as many or as few as you wish, and you can always have a media player in the background playing appropriately themed music on shuffle. Such groups as Midnight Syndicate or Two Steps from Hell work very well for fantasy games, as do some of the movie soundtracks, the soundtrack from the Children of Dune mini series has a big selection and its tone is suitable for a fantasy game as well in spite of Dune technically kinda sorta being sci fi. Thats dune as in sand dune, in case youre using eloquence which seems to make it sound like the famous first person shooter Doom or as in Shades of Doom for some reason.

As someone who studied C++ I took one look at the scripting in MushClient and thought, oh crap. Yes VIP is relatively expensive for what it is but it lets me concentrate on the game rather than the scripting which I value, and learning to script in VIP was lewss effort than learning LUA or similar for Mush and I just couldnt be bothered with that.Trek 2000 is indeed free. Final Conflict has some interesting changes compared with Trek 2000 but it actually omits a couple of features like the mines and self destruct functions of Trek 2000, theres also a few bugs in Final Conflict or at least were last thing I knew and an issue involving cloaked enemies where they wouldnt decloak to attack you if they only had one or two ships left so it was impossible to win. The big difference of course is that Final Conflict is in the era of the TNG movies with sovereign class ships, apart from the Defiant of course, while Trek 2000 is in the original series era with consti

Oh my Utasa has already visited chapter house Theres some very useful gear there.WP85, you can type trance to start automatically casting spells at a target just like battle in melee and barrage at range with a bow or similar. The chance of damage from your channeled magic is indeed nice but the freezing aura ability which gives you the ability to channel cryomancy I find does quite a few more things than just that extra damage. Using both together can do up to 60 damage in one hit, 40 cold and 20 nether, but [[wow]] does it drain your energy quickly so I tend not to do that if I can help it.

Re: Clok Mud

The Rook Parlours main building is in Mistral, they focus on cryomancy and sorcery which includes some element of utilising nethrim a little like necromancy in other settings. Theres also the Elemancy University which teaches more traditional mage abilities like control over air, water, fire and earth but requires a 5,000 riln fee to join, it can be found on the roads southeast of Mistral or northeast of Shadgarde. There are also other guilds which practice some amount of magic to varying degrees - Udemi can use druidry, Utasa get wave bending and so on.That said I like cryomancy because it also gives you a freezing aura when you channel it, meaning whenever you try to attack an enemy or they try to attack you theres a chance theyll suffer a penalty from being chilled and when you hit them with a melee attack theres a chance youll do some cold damage, combined with the fact that whatever form of cold damage you do it seems to drain an opp
onents energy quite effectively leaving them more tired than they normally would be and potentially vulnerable. Rooks work well in conjunction with weapons, whereas with an Elemancer youre reliant on your magic as your weapon more but they do get some quite powerful abilities.

I was playing my Rook hovering around Terueka and there was a spider hanging around outside the entrance to the thoroughfare, so I pulled out all the stops using both cryomancy and sorcery and hit it with everything I had. I had to retreat back into the thoroughfare a few times but I killed it, I think I got a couple of lucky hits on its abdomen with my cryosorcerous bolts and I managed to not only severely wound it but exhaust it to the point where it fell unconscious, yay for cold magic. I dont know whose logging left that spider there but at least I managed to deal with it, I can tell you I was not impressed when I went to go grinding in Terueka and found that damn thing sat outside.

Interest in mud soundpack repository/mirror?

Ive noticed for a long time a lot of the soundpacks out there are only available through dropbox or similar services so I thought Id ask, how much interest would there be in a site that acts as a central location for the hosting of soundpacks? Ill lay out a few ground rules and my intentions first.1, All soundpacks would be treated as the property of their author. They would be hosted/mirrored only with the authors express permission and would not be altered in any way other than updating the file to newer versions as the author may choose to make them available. My intention is to be game and platform agnostic, it would be my decision however as to whether a soundpack should be included or not based on any criteria I feel is appropriate and my decision would stand so long as no new updates or information comes to light. I wish to avoid arguments over the authorship of a soundpack so authors would need to expressly declare they are the valid ow
ner of the soundpack and have the consent of any contributors to the soundpack that it may be distributed freely.2, Soundpacks should wherever possible adhere to the rules for the game they are designed for, and while I understand many games allow strong language the soundpack itself should not include any offensive terminology. Additionally soundpacks must obviously be virus free and not include intentionally malicious script. I would be the one to make any decisions regarding these matters once they were brought to my attention.3, I would not accept support requests, bug reports, feature requests or general complaints regarding the soundpacks. Use of these soundpacks would be at the individuals own risk, while I will scan the soundpacks for viruses and would listen to concerns as I mentioned in 2 above I simply couldnt accept any kind of responsibility or provide warranty for the functionality or quality of the soundpacks. This is an important one to me.<

I applaud you for overcoming your addiction, Im sorry games caused you such problems but Im glad you have found a way out of them. As with alcohol addiction and smoking I understand that you need to avoid games in order to prevent a relapse. I just ask that you try to rationalise this in a positive light, that god wants you to stop playing games for your own well being and not because there is anything wrong with playing games in and of itself. It sounds like this is your opinion but its worth making sure.Ill also note that there are good and bad reasons to be agnostic or atheist, it very much sounds like you were atheist for the wrong reasons. Thats not a good thing, though perhaps less harmful than believing in a faith for the wrong reasons. So long as you have rationally considered the options and your beliefs dont stem from bitterness or anger as was the case with your atheism it seems then good for you.I may not be a believer
but I admire the conviction belief can give some people, just try to interpret gods will for yourself rather than letting people tell you what it is. The nature of certain humans has always been to leverage belief in order to gain power over others, I wont tell you what to do but I ask you do it with your eyes, your mind and your heart open.

The kind of religious addiction youre talking about seems closer to cults than mainstream faith based practice. In general Id say the moment you start telling other people what they should be believing you have a problem, short of that the only problem I could conceive of would be an extreme devotion to practices which directly involve worship or performing work that solely benefits the faith based organisation, in either case this being to the exclusion of your life. I dont see Bladestorm going down this route. The other major problem with organised worship is when people let their preachers tell them what god wants from them without forming their own opinions. Im not saying to question your faith, Im saying like I said earlier it is often wise to consider varying interpretations of scripture and your own feelings of gods will combined with an open mind and an open heart. Again Ill stress Im not a believer but it makes s
ense to me that if you believe that God guides you then he would do so through your own feelings and moral conscience. If that ends up differing from what you are being taught then you must make your own judgement but I ask merely that people do so with compassion and tolerance in mind.

I agree were lacking a good 4X game. Ive experienced some of these games before my sight loss and it really is surprising what they can achieve with a turn based game when compared to the ubiquitous RTS games, at least in the mainstream. Unfortunately this leads to complexity for both the developer and player, and while many of us want that complexity theres always those who complain the games are too difficult to grasp.CoolTurk, thats why I wish something like the mainstream game Skyrim was available to us as well. Its essentially a single player MMO in terms of openness but has a completely dynamic world that reacts to your actions while also continuing on its own merry way if you were to just sit around doing nothing.

I dont know if this will help in your situation but I usually find it necessary to turn off exclusive mode on your sound device, this helps in any case with a few bits of software potentially including media players like Foobar 2000 so its good practice to set regardless.Open your sound settings either from control panel or opening a context menu on the system tray volume control and choosing playback devices, make certain you are on the playback devices tab.Move to the list of sound devices, choose the one youre using, open a context menu on it and choose properties.Move to the advanced tab, move to the exclusive mode check box and uncheck it.Exclusive mode allows a piece of software to take total control of your sound card and prevents other software from using it, while most software doesnt do this a few media players can do this as do mainstream games. Also while youre in the list of devices you can make certain that the
device in question is set as the default sound device for your system.

Re: a game of star wars affordable?

I played SWMud for a while, thats the star wars mud. Its rather a grind fest, skills take a long time to level, but there are some good people on there. Only downside is youre not allowed to ask for help with quests or provide guides to quests since the admins feel that detracts from the experience of working it out for yourself.

Just type map nearby and itll provide both your present coordinates and nearby points of interest with their coordinates, just remember the map only works when youre currently at one of the points of interest so your character has a landmark to judge from.Heres what Ive been able to judge so far about the weapons, correct me if Im at all wrong.Staffs I heard recommended to new players, they have excellent ability to parry and can make a maximum of four attacks at a time making them very fast.Swords have a decent balance between offensive ability and ability to parry, with number of attacks varying depending on type. The rapier however has an excellent ability to parry with a lot of attacks.Axes do a lot of damage but tend to have relatively few attacks and little ability to parry.Polearms have very few attacks, usually only one so far as Ive seen, but have excellent ability to parry and seem to have some kind o
f bonus that makes it harder for enemies to do something to do with melee. My best interpretation of this bonus is that it makes it harder for enemies to change position to engaged, if this is the case it could make polearms well suited to a spellcaster or to someone attempting to avoid a fight.

I dont think pick axes can cut trees but any normal two handed axe can do that. You should be able to find a weapons shop somewhere that will sell swords and axes, but dont expect to be able to fight the canim in the ruins near mistral any time soon. Thats what the sentries are for, you can join them and theyll give you an escort through the ruins but youll need to leave their group when you get to the other end. They also dont guarantee you wont get hurt in the opening hits, but they should take over fully after that.

Most general stores seem to sell satchels and backpacks and may also sell belt pouches. Depending on where you are either a weapon shop or tanner will likely sell a variety of sheaths you can store weapons in, daggers need a dagger sheath while an axe will need a haft frog. You should also have started the game with a container of some description, type the letter I to check your inventory.Im not sure about loans, do they exist in Clok? All Ive used banks for is keeping money safe that I dont want to carry with me and storing items I dont use much but dont want to get rid of. The simplest way to earn riln early on really is foraging, in fact with some patience I can get 600 riln from a session of foraging. As Vinz pointed out money isnt everything, but it is obviously important to get some together as a new player so you can sort out your basic equipment and pay for any ongoing expenses like food and bandages. Ive decide
d Im not really bothered about horses, aside from the ability to carry wagons which I dont feel Id use much right now Im happy walking.

Re: Clok Mud

The Shadgarde graveyard is good. Before you set off make sure you have enough rations and bandages though, the bandages will help heal any scrapes you get.To get there head out of the town into the wilderness, in case you dont know go to the entrance area and go arch then wander. From there go south then southeast, then join a patrolman as they come through. Theyll escort you to the other side of the pass where you can leave their group and from there just head southeast/east until you get to a fork where the road heads south and follow that all the way down until you cant go any further, for now therell be some pumpkin lanterns there as a useful landmark. From there go northwest, west, go trail, go gate.Remember you will need to eat your rations as you go along, use status to check your fatigue and hunger and if youre hungry go ahead and eat one. You dont need to eat at slightly hungry unless you dont think youll have
much chance in the near future, like if you know youre heading into a fight.

Like I said pine trees are worth peanuts, many tree types such as spruce, oak and birch will get you around 120 riln just for the logs and closer to 400 for the flitches. And yeah, trees landing on yous always a risk. You may find armour helpful, at least in vital areas like head and body. If you dont have guild abilities that are impacted by armour such as magic then Id seriously suggest at least a helmet of some kind and a cuirass even without logging.

Re: Clok Mud

Axes including logging axes can fit in a haft frog used as a sheath. As for logs, dont chop the logs up keep them as large logs and either sell them in a market like with foraging or buy a permit for the local mill, use the mill to turn them first into cants then flitches and sell the flitches at a market which gets you a better price. Hand carts are very useful for this. Just dont bother with pine trees, theyre worth peanuts. Oh and beware spiders falling out of the trees youre logging. The branches you get from logging can either be used to grind up your woodworking skill, if you carve arrows you can also increase your fletching skill at the same time, or you can just toss them. You could also keep some bark shavings, gained from carving the branches for the first time to strip it off, to use as kindling for fires and some kindling, made by chopping a small branch or small stave, in case you need to make a fire and dont have an axe handy for m
aking the kindling. A campfire requires 3 tinder which is the shavings, 4 kindling, and at least 4 branches but you can forage for branches or for deadwood if youre in a wooded area.

Sounds like youre in Haiban, not quite Haven but an easy mistake. Id also suggest you find a general store and make sure you have at least 5 or so travel rations with you, then you can pretty much do whatever you like. There isnt a starting quest.A good way to start out is to go foraging, remove a container so youre not wearing it and type forage while youre in the wilderness. Youll automatically put anything you forage into a held but not worn container, then you can take it to a market and sell container which doesnt sell the container but does sell any commodity items within such as berries and herbs.People are pretty good so if youre ever unsure ask on the question channel.

Whew 2700 is a lot for foraging, you must go through quite a lot of rooms to fill that up.Grryf, it all depends whether you want pure combat or some magical abilities as well. The mercs get hands down the best weapon bonuses while the knights Templar seem to get some decent magical abilities to support them, with the ability to heal scrapes but only scrapes, and both get the armour mastery ability which helps with armour encumberance among other things. Brotherhood of the Fist are brawlers, no armour or weapons just hand to hand.Id thought about various guilds but after playing for a while mercs just felt right. I dont know how much is character concept and how much is play style but I got to a point where I pretty much knew that was where I was going. Just as a note though marksmanship is a general ranged skill that gives a boost to all ranged weapon attacks, similarly melee works for melee attacks so Id separate them out from the usual weapon skills.Ive been using a glaive but Im thinking of switching to swords, the idea appeals to me that I can swap between a large double handed sword and a single handed sword plus a torch or shield should I ever need to.

Ah, so that was you.Ive tried hunting but without decent skinning skill you just dont get much pay, plus you tend to get a lot of minor injuries from it and a lot of the time your prey escapes before you can kill them.Logging can work quite well if you have a saw mill nearby. I had been getting 120 riln per spruce tree near Shadgarde which is fairly meh for the large amount of time it takes to clear the branches off the felled tree, but when I found a birch tree a little way out from Haiban then used the watermill to saw it up into flitches I got 416 riln for a single tree. Nice thing about logging too is it gives you plenty of branches to start a fire if you need to or to work on your woodworking skill if you dont. Just bear in mind you will occasionally get a tree landing on you. From what I gather when youve learned a skill from a trainer they give you 1 point in the skill then for 24 hours your skill increase in that skill is d
oubled, up to a maximum of an extra 2.5 skill. You can only have 3 skills doubling in this way but they clear out after you hit either limit, so if you earn 5 total points in the skill thats done and you can train it again or train something else.I also believe you can get lessons from other players but Im not sure how this works.
