Well it's not stable in the sense that any troops sent to fight in it don't return even for the winning side but if you go the extras menu and then to concept art, then enter 70. You have a simulator there where you can toy with the current combat update implementation.It's pretty basic at the moment but I'm working on it. Also there's currently a slight bug that pops up every now and then about the battle roll system breaking but I'm going to address that soon.All in all it's barebones and unfinished but the battle system does pretty much work if you want to check it out

@Firefly, Cheers for the kind words mate, always lovely to read.So the combat update is currently quite hard to estimate, I've given a sort of 'baseless' date in my head of about 3 months but I feel like it could be longer. Once I get the current batch of combat work out of the way, I'll be rewriting the combat update plans from scratch and planning this time exactly how I'll do everything and how long I estimate they will take. It's hard to estimate 100% as there can always be hitches and bugs and stuff but I'll have a better idea then I believe.Still It's progressing nicely, Tons more to go but I'm getting there

I owe a lot to the Audiogames community so any time I come across visually impaired gamers who aren't using it and have issues with Warsim I always direct them here. It's a super helpful place.I'm very grateful you invited me here so many years ago!@Niklas, The RPGification stuff will be coming separately, however there is a feature that links the two that I need to figure out. It would be cool if the player could lead an army, but this works best with RPGification so it may be a case of I leave a sort of template thing in the combat update code to allow me to expand it when I get to RPGification.I imagine when the combat update gets underway, I will eventually release an update with a sort of 'Lean combat update' that contains the core mechanics and some content, and then will add more content/tweaks/and fixes in subsequent updates.Still mountains more work to go though

Wasn't such a problem before but now with so many sound effects in Warsim it's annoying. I use the menu theme or the calm theme as the background as they are shorted loops so it's not a problem when they reset.@germanico, Hmm that's odd. is the screen reader blocking the rest of the text or something?

@Titan_of_War, in the full game there are mountains of ways to get gold, laws, upgrades, buying buildings, taking over locations, selling units etc@Arnold18, Glad you like the gnome insult system, I made it for a joke a while back and then was testing it and realised it could be better, we had a competition and got over 300 new insults and several bonus systems and I fucking love it now hahaAlso as for the double named thing, In that instance one of them is the winner and the other opponent must have had the same name because the loser also gets paid but a little less gold.@Titan_of_War, Your kingdom has lands and so do other factions, more lands is more recruits and income, you can invade to take land from others.In the full version of the game there are over 10'000 changes, maybe even 20'000... tons of new features, laws, locations, things to do, factions, content, tons of reworks.

I saw someone with over 1000 hours playtime on steam but I think personally for exploring the game minus playing again for randomly generated stuff, between 15-30 hours maybe. Really hard to call, there are lots of systems and features that aren't available everytime you play and are set by random generation such asMilitia leaders, state of the arena, state of darkdale, state of the blackmarket, enemy kingdom relations, independent factions and the features and situations they unlock and can do, unit prices and changes, etcI've personally played 1000s of hours via testing and it's certainly lost it's replayability for me mostly but sometimes when playing I like to go to certain areas like Goblinwood for the jamboree, or the gnome village for the insults and stuff, snail racing etc.

@omer, Interesting point for potential origins, perhaps it could be random, maybe in one world wizards are everywhere and they could be hired like normal staff, whereas in other games there might be only 2 or 3 wizards in the whole game world to discover.Lots of ways to do it and lots to think about

Hey, so I wrote something about it fairly recently so I'll paste it here, it's a lot to summarise but basically* Will be able to send more than just one army per year, armies will have to be led by commanders, these could be your general, your favourite champion, a random knight, even yourself. The higher the skill of the general the better they command and the more men they can take with them.* Intro events before combat, ie a speech, some shouting, an early break of the lines* Battle runs in phases, so instead of one continuous unit smash, your army and the enemy one will clash and then troops will die, manuvers will be made etc* Random weather before a fight that can add random events, for example it could be a storm, this will show a stormy graphic above your battle scene and then random events could happen where a landslide happens and kills a mix of both sides men, or maybe just the enemies men or just your own* Random events, in battle perhaps a wild bear charges the field, perhaps a group of hunters pass by and launch a volley of arrows at the enemy line, who knows.So far battle phases work, the tracking of your remaining army, the background weather effects and several other things but it's still very basic compared to where it needs to be.There's also a dynamic battle approach system that is halfway done.I've also gotten concepts written up for rare weather events, waiting out weather, victory summary, what happens when you lose a battle, prisoner taking, post battle looting and loot division, upgrading units, and so on.This will be the biggest update in Warsim's history by far but it will also be affecting the earliest thing ever written into Warsim's code so I know that I'm going to be tearing a lot of things out and breaking a lot of systems before I can get something up and running.I'm concerned about how much work this will be as I have no earthly idea how much will need to be reworked, I estimate at best it will be 3-6 months of work but it is overdue.My current mindset is if I go in a look at the absolutely essential core elements of what this combat update should be and can just get that skeleton done, I can then push a release and start adding the extra bits in updates to follow. We'll see how that goes though.

You can then accept them into your army.@Darren, Once hired the steward will deal with any you've left behind at the end of the turn, beware of what speech they give when you hire them though, some stewards do different things than others.You can train your champions by finding the combat academy, take it over and then upgrade it to gain more training slots.

I think I agree with Omer on this one, a lot of people who don't come from the type of games where you type what you wish to do actually vastly prefer the simplicity of the system, myself included.You do a lot of stuff in Warsim and I think having to type each action out would make things almost irritatingly delayed when it's as easy as entering 1, 2 or 3 to do what you need to do in the current build.Warsim's sold over 24000 copies and I think overall the response would be negative if I were to change things to be more complicated to control. It's an interesting idea for sure but I can't imagine adding it in.

I wouldn't say the world is much bigger, but there are a few more locations, secret areas, and expansions on existing places. Lots of new features and stuff to try!Demons have also changed to be much tougher and aggressive when alive

@Dungeon Diver, There have definitely been some difficult parts but I've found generally things have gotten easier over time and now for the majority of things I want/need to add it's not difficult at all unless it's something very new or out of the box that I have to try and figure out how to code. Or if I'm having to return to old systems I wrote years ago to rework new stuff into them it can be a struggle.It's not a super hard thing to make overall though, just takes a lot of effort haha@Darrthscorrp, Hey Darth, lovely to see you back!So deeper consequences and reactions to things is definitely a good idea and something I have heard to some degree before, cheers for the write up and example. @Mata, Hope you enjoy my friend! @Defender, Yeah that's the problem with big updates, I can't release the little parts of it seperately so I need to wait until the big thing is out of the way. Glad it is released now though at least.Glad you like the custom report. We do have undead events that happen but those only happen via Necromancer races, we did have an event that used to be able to happen at the end of turn in the bit above the battle options but that sections was removed a while back.As for the goblin scourge stuff I saw it and just couldn't pass it, had to change it, it's always been over the top expensive. Yes it's each time there's an overflow event, so if the prison overflows yearly you'll have a yearly +1 bandit level which can quickly bleed into being a big issue, you could singlehandedly go from having no bandit gangs and bandit level exctint to having it infested within a few decades of prison mismanagement.There is potential for something like the guild selling that to be re-added, funny that you remember it. I can remember how long ago it was scrapped.That goblin staff event could be better explained, basically you get an event where tons of goblins join you from a goblin clan if you have the goblin god staff, the event now informs you exactly how many goblins you've gained so it's clearer.I'm glad you like the Demon horde changes, I was excited to see them work, the previous system made such little sense and made the demons only a threat if attacked which really sucks. That's a really good idea regarding weaker kingdoms being more likely to abandon lands. I'll look into it for sure.I think overall it's mildly better but in contrast I'd see other kingdoms recruit 20-30 units with their 5 lands when I'd just hired an army of 1000 men and it felt so inbalanced that anything to slightly push that helps. I understand the hesistation with the difficulty being made more difficult as it will increase the challenge however I have left the option in to play with the difficult starting resources without having any of the gameplay based difficulty changes.The plague stuff I'd forgot about but I knew since the plague was added tons of new areas with populations were added after it and not backwardsly coded to be affected by the plague, now it's nice that the new parts of the world will also feel the pinch. I've always wanted to add plague related world events and more visible problems so this is something I'll definitely consider later. Maybe there could be a change a rival ruler could buy it and open it to spite you.I feel you on the tournament stuff, it's the most commonly exploited area of the game by far. I think potentially a two pronged solution might be due, an odds system where payout is equal to odds, as well as a lower betting limit. I had trouble figuring out an odds system before but I think I could definitely tackle it again. Do you think it's worth having the ability for players to switch the betting system through cheats/debug codes to be the easy version it is now? Lots to think aboutYeah doing the wiki has made me properly re-evaluate and want to give better attention to all the npcs I cover, plenty more to come as well. @Dark, that's a fair point. The only other way to get slave soldiers is the slave training pen upgrade and then hiring slaves from one of the locations they can be found (Blackmarket mainly) or by enslaving your people.Also really nice to see you back Dark! @Niklas, Yeah I agree, And that's interesting, definitely am up for returning to rebellion stuff and fleshing it out more in the future.

Hey guys,So I just wanted to say a big thank you to the Warsim community, I certainly never expected to be working full time making a text-based kingdom management game in 2020.Game development has been a dream job since early childhood and I never figured it actually possible just a nice idea. Now seeing all the comments, the reviews, the great ideas and reported bugs, I'm always humbled by it.For the longest time I couldn't believe people were interested in the game, it was released on itch.io for free in 2016 and a small number of people downloaded and played it. Occasionally I'd even get the odd donation from players which always blew my mind. Warsim was a much more primitive and unpolished game back then (You can play the 2015 version by going to your Warsim directory and finding the Extras folder and then the Warsim Classic Edition (2015) folder)After a few years it ended up on steam, since then the game has grown far beyond mine or probably anyone else's expectation with us recently passing 22'000 copies sold since late 2017 when the game was released.I can't thank you guys enough, I've put my heart and soul into this game but it's so filled with the help, feedback, and talent of many others who I owe a lot of gratitude to.So in summary, Thank you everyone. I love you guys and I will keep working to make this game the best it possibly can be as we approach a possible early access release in 2021. The game is selling enough copies that I can more or less sustain myself while I develop so I'm not rushing anything.Cheers everyone <3Huw

Cheers for the earlier discussion on the menu guys, just read it.I definitely think the throne room has to stay on the main menu, interesting idea about the laws being nested in though.@Caccio, I'm not sure actually where if anywhere a total bluetrii count is, there must be one somewhere. Where do you think would be a good place to include it?@Defender, No worries mate, and to be honest when I was out implementing the savage stuff I wasn't sure if it was for the wild north or the savages of wildwood cause they are similar. Could definitely be a thing.I see your point on it destroying your last land once you've already stepped up, would be a major fuck you moment in game though if you got that haha.

I just need to expand the system a bit more. All interesting ideas but I think I'll keep the gold fully in the kings control.@Niklas, Good ideas on follow up encounters.@Caccio, That's a very interesting idea, I'm not sure I could do it but would be interesting to see. And that's cool, hope you enjoy Darkdale@Niklas, The idea of combat in the throne room I've wanted for a while but I need to wait until the player has hitpoints and stuff. Also good ideas about the multiple reaction encounters.@Caccio, The loot boxes are discovered upon destroying some areas, more of them found in places with more riches. The loot inside is random though, could be really bad 1 gold item.@Niklas, Another interesting bunch of ideas cheers mate!@Aaron, yes I'm glad to say there is something that happens if you  keep giving youths coins. Over time more of them will visit your throne room as your relation with them rises. In time eventually children will love you and visit your court sometimes bearing gifts.
