Hi, A friend and I are working on a new kind of map/mod and in the process I'm trying to create an AI that is able to attack and build the necessary units, yet I'm having a few problems. I based my AI on the current ai.txt file, but I'm only increasing attacks and amounts of units, also instructing that the AI use abilities and acquire all the new buildings in the process. Yet all the AI does is to send a few attacks of a couple of units, then after a while a few peasants, then simply giving up entirely. Is there anything obvious I'm doing wrong? Also, @Soundmud, if you have the time it would be nice if you can update the documentation on AI creation as what's currently there is just a basic introduction.

@1228, this exact thing just happened to me, my guess is it tried to connect to the server, which may be down at the moment. Turning off wi-fi on my laptop fixed it and I could interact with the menu again. I'm confused though, I was under the impression that the only time you would need internet access is to register the game?

@SLJ, You turn on the communicator by pressing ctrl plus shift plus G, then you can tab around until you hear messages. They have different channels, for example channel 0 is global and some of the others for only a given place around you. If you want to send a message to the global channel, just type 0 to get to that channel, then press alt plus g to type your message and enter to send. HTH

I also found something strange, this was not in the beta. So I finished a task today; a rather long one (task 5-7). I got the "task completed successfully" message, went back into the game to play the next task, only for the very same task to appear again. Anyone else having issues with the tasks?

Hi, Firstly, I really like the game and the concepts so far, I'm really excited to see what more may be added in future. I do have a bug though. I'm on Pluto and trying to fight, but when I press space to fire my weapon, the game freezes and the following pops up: "Their was an error while attempting to run your last command. Please notify the administrators of what you were doing to cause the error." No keys I press afterwards seem to work.

@679, once you've landed a value would show if you press the letter K. This value would be around negative 800 if you are flying a category 1 aeroplane, so press K regularly to see how far the value goes up. I would suggest slowing the plane down round -400 or so, it is important that you time it so that you stop anywhere between the values of 0 and 100, not more or less than that or else it won't allow you to park. If by chance you made a mistake and stopped above 100, press control plus backspace to reverse the plane, then move back slowly until you reach a value below 100. I hope that helps.

So I got through that mission finally, not sure how. It gave the error a few times and next time it landed, all I did was to try and look at the things on my profile.dat file, but before that I made a copy, obviously my changes rendered the file unusable so I simply pasted in the original file again, though I doubt that actually solved it, maybe it was just a lucky stroke or something.

One more thing, I am having the bug people reported earlier when landing in mission 1.6 where it would give an error dialogue, but when I press okay nothing happens and I have no clue how to get past that. I've noticed people moving on to other missions, but I can't find any post with a solution. Surely I don't have to re-download the game in Slovak just to get passed that? Any help would be appreciated.I do have the latest version.

Hi, Thanks, I realised I didn't have the correct frequency and that's why I crashed. Now on to another question, I'm not sure if this has already been covered amongst the multitude of posts, but is it possible to fly with category 2 aeroplanes when doing free-flying if you're already doing missions on that level? I am now doing commercial flights and thought I would find some of the planes I've unlocked in the free-fly menu, but I'm not.

I managed to get the sounds working when I saved the character and logged in that way, it wouldn't work if you connect manually each time. I don't know how though, I'm new to VIPMUD so I'm just fumbling my way around everything as I figure things out.

Hi, Well, I know I posted earlier that you may be better off taking the game down until you can figure things out, and as much as I enjoy playing redspot, I'll have to stick to what I said. We all know that you're only one person so obviously working at two games at the same time is not easy, so perhaps keep it down for the moment, enjoy the time with your friend and get back to the game whenever you feel you have to. It's free, after all, so I don't think we can really complain all that much. The game has some issues that effect it's credibility and it needs a lot of work, but there is no time limit on that. So, enjoy the time away from it and I hope you can come back refreshed and with ideas at some later stage.

Hi, I don't usually complain about games, especially one like this one, but the cheating is becoming ridiculous to put it mildly. It is all but unplayable at this point, unfortunately. I know you are busy on STW and I can't even begin to imagine the pressures of working on these online games, but maybe you should consider some decisive action on this, as it unfortunately turns, what is a fantastic project, into a sad joke. My suggestion is that, if you can't work on Redspot at the moment, that you rather take the server offline until such time as you know what to do, only because this constant cheating is turning legitimate players away from the game and will sadly damage its overall credibility. Just my thoughts.

Hi, First of all, as this is the first time I'm posting here, I would just like to say what a great and addicting game this is, keep up the good work! Now, as I played yesterday and tracked players, I also got the random speed hack notification and got kicked out of the game. I hope you can sort out the items at some stage, as someone used milions of small projectiles to kill me yesterday. I shot down a fair few of them but eventually it just got too much and I died.

We should also remember, in this early stage of the game, we have killers running around looking for targets, only because there isnt much to do yet, aside from building pots, bows and boats. When all these new things are added, like buildings, animals etc, Im sure we would all be occupied and killers would become fewer. I remember before the PK toggle, I would build the basic stuff, explore a bit, then simply go around looking for people to fight. I might be wrong, but that is how I see it turning out in the end.

Spawning in a random location on the island might also be a solution, but then I suggest you determine a set thirst and energy level to start with. Or else you might spawn in the north east part of the desert with 900 thirst and 100 energy, and would be left rather frustrated when having to die again, simply to re-spawn with better attributes.

Hi. I havent tried the latest version yet, but I thought of something with the sleep thing. From what Ive heard in a walkthrough, you sleep until something wakes you up, such as an alarm etc. This isnt entirely as realistic as I think you would like it to be. Im sure youll agree, when you fall asleep you do wake up by yourself after a certain amount of time; either 6 or 7 hours later; sometimes even earlier. The rising sun could also wake you, especially if youre sleeping outside near the stream or something.

Well, when they get to that mistrust stage they refuse to join missions, so if theyre bored its kind of their own fault haha! One guys loyalty went to 0 percent, he tried fighting me, but unfortunately for him only lasted a couple of seconds, if that long.

Agreed, its really not too hard to move away from arrows. And what are you going to do once wild animals are introduced and they come after you in similar fashion? As someone said earlier, its a survive in the wild type of game, not a walk peacefully in the woods game. And based on your suggestion that killers should be punished; it is realistic in a kind of civilization, not necessarily in the wild, in the middle of nowhere, where there are no law enforcements. Unless the entire community gang up on the killer. I should just reiterate that I, too, got killed quite a number of times, so I understand the frustrations you must feel to an extent. However, you learn from the experience in order to improve. Just my thoughts.

I wasnt initially going to say something, but I have to agree with darth scorp here. I just find it funny that people want to play a game that clearly revolves around survival, yet complain about getting killed. Now, of course, there are various aspects here to. Even if youre unarmed and a killer chases you, you can get away. Believe me, this has happened to me also. Later on you learn to defend yourself and normally Ive noticed people would run away once I shoot back. And getting killed really isnt all that bad. But perhaps Im just saying that because Im used to swamp where dying was a lot more costly. Either way, I dont get the idea of the disabling PK system, but I understand that this is Sams game and he should move it in the direction he sees fit; there are always other things to do/games to play if we dont like it. I think I tried doing this way back when I joined the forum, but with limited success. Perhaps we need a topic here in which we could arrange games and a good time to play. Normally when I play the game it is with a group of friends, so naturally we play on our own servers with our own maps. I would, however, like to play against more people as well.

Thing is, at this stage we cant gain energy; that hasnt yet been implemented. When you start, you start with a random amount of energy. Ive noticed many people go on suicide missions in that case, hoping to re-spawn with higher energy. What you say makes sense though, and for that I suggest that there should be some kind of small town where it would be safe to get supplies etc, a safezone-like environment where you cannot be killed. This will allow you to build up and get yourself armed before going out into the wild, where anything can happen to you. I believe Sam mentioned Bares at one stage, and from what I understand they will be fierce adversaries, who will do anything to get you killed. LOL I have a feeling people would wish regular PK back once those come after you.

During this, you cannot be attacked for a period of 15 minutes after re-spawning. That should be more than enough time to get water and a bow. I must just say, for me the lag was less today, so I played quite a bit. I love all the aspects, from chasing people around and fighting them to gathering things. I havent been this hooked on an audio game in a very, very long time!

A few things Ive noticed thus far, however: Observing games seems to be bugged, as you cant observe multiplayer games you played. The game would just close after selecting your game. And when you move Ive also noticed something strange. On a particular map, I was on a7 while the person I attacked was on k7. It seems as if my units moved right through the A-row to get to K, and not as they should through the rest of the map. Not sure if thats something with the map or the game itself.

I just found something. Playing with the orc race extensively, I realised the transport balls arent flying units. Is this meant to be so? If so, does it have some special purpose? Because the speed is 2 meters per second, while most ground units are either 1 or 1.5 MPS.

Hi. So, having played the mod for a while now, I find that the elves are especially weak as a race. I tried them against various races, and against anything that can attack adjacent squares they have almost no chance of survival. LOL, the grenade launchers from the technicals wipe an entire army out in a matter of seconds. Another thing Ive noticed is, during a huge fight, the game not just slows down dramatically, but it gets to a point where one player actually disconnects. I played with a friend; he was the darks and I the orcs, we had a huge fight which naturally slowed down the game, but then all of a sudden he just disconnected. It wasnt his internet, I think, because firstly I was with him on skype all the time, and secondly we played on his server, which stayed connected. I also recorded a little demonstration of the crazy mod I would like to share, so if anyones interested: htt

Thing with the portal ability is, no matter how many of the druids you have, they wont send your entire army in. And from my experience, what they sent couldnt win a fight against anyone strong.
