Yep, that's because MidRadio Player didn't get an official English version, so this translation is unofficial and may habe errors.

Re: How can i convert .mmf and .imy files?

Use Yamaha MidRadio Player. It supports Mobile Audio (MA) sequences (mmf), but the MA-7 is unsupported, it also supports standard MIDI sequences. There's an English translation version here. Click on "Slow download for free". Wait 10 seconds and the file will start to download. You can associate the mmf extension with MidRadio Player, and it will play instanty. Here are some key shorcuts.Space is for pause/resume, up/down keys are for volume up/down, the period (.) key is for stop, ctrl+left and ctrl+right are for fast forward and rewind, page up and page down are for tempo up and tempo down. For changing the sequence's key (transposing) is ctrl+up and ctrl+down. Also, this player comes with a built-in MIDI synthesizer which is based on the XGlite specification, it's the Yamaha S-YXG2006LE.

Re: How to make music with out midi keyboard?

I'm using mml2mid just because my keyboard skills are dismal. I used to use MidiText by Aminiel (he did a topic about it 4 years ago IIRC) and it really was cool for me, since the syntax was very similar to MML. The coolest thing about it is that, depending on where the cursor was, with F5 you played the sequence from the cursor, and not from scratch doing a compilation. It is a shame, because I can no longer use it, since opening it gives me an error that the entry point cannot be found in the main executable.QWS and Reaper... Yeah, I also tried them to some extend only for fun, but I never did anything serious with them.

Basically, whenever I use sample-based plug-ins (Sound Canvas VA, S-YXG50, you name it) and import my own MIDIs or existent ones, for an unknown reason Reaper gives me stuck notes. I did a lot of researches, but factors and probabilities vary between different cases.

I personally use Polyphone 1.9. Starting from 2.x versions, the GUI is different and very awkward for screen reader users. There's SynthFont Viena, but I couldn't managed to use it. Polyphone lets you to connect a MIDI keyboard to test your sound while you're creating it. All my SoundFonts were created in Polyphone 1.9.

Re: A new SoundFont made by me: FPD98, a 90's Japanese soft synth

I've finished the FPD/FPD95 SoundFont, but honestly you don't miss a thing, since all the presets only have one sample. The advantage with it, is that maybe you can hear some similarities with SNES games (specially the acoustic piano) and say things like "oh, I've hear this sound maaany times!" . Download. You'll notice that some presets have the same instrument, well it's like the original thing. FPD for PC-98 computers has the same config file as FPD95 for Windows 95, so I managed to build the SoundFont from there. It has only one drumkit.BTW, since I mentioned the snare and clap used in Sonic 3 & Knuckles games, these come from the KORG 01/W. Good luck finding a drumkit sample pack.

The advantage with it, is that maybe you can hear some similarities with SNES games (specially the acoustic piano) and say things like "oh, I've hear this sound maaany times!" . Download. You'll notice that some presets have the same instrument, well it's like the original thing. FPD for PC-98 computers has the same config file as FPD95 for Windows 95, so I managed to build the SoundFont from there.BTW, since I mentioned the snare and clap used in the standard Sonic 3 & Knuckles games, these come from the KORG 01/W. Good luck finding a drumkit sample pack.

Re: Ruff conversion of GSPlayer GUS patches into a soundfont

Since Jake provided a Win 32 build of GSPlayer, I've started to fix all the instruments of the SoundFont (by ear), all of them have issues in decay, sustain and pan parameters (even there are some problems in the loop points of some piano samples, they sound different in the SoundFont). But as always with my things, I won't promise it will be finished.

I can upload it, but it is incomplete.Oh, and a brief story about FPD.Frostforest PCM Driver (also known as FPD for MS-DOS) is a freeware MIDI software synthesizer for NEC PC-98 computers made by Hideki Fujii (alias MKR, the representative of the doujin circle Frostforest), Akito Monden (alias Monden, a member of Frostforest) and Hisayasu Kuroda. It has the same features I descrived in post 1. It was shareware, but after some time, they decided to go further and in anticipation of Windows 95, they ported it to Windows, and it became freeware. The Windows 95/98/etc. versions would come being FPD95 (first Windows port, and equivalent to the original FPD for PC-98) after FPD97 (new set of PCM tone waveform data, which is the set used in FPD98 by default) and FPD98 which is the last in the series. Since FPD95, it's shareware until today (that's insane if you ask me).

Re: A new SoundFont made by me: FPD98, a 90's Japanese soft synth

I did a significant progress in the SoundFont, and I'd say it's pretty forgettable, I don't think it's worth to upload in Musical Artifacts; but maybe I later change my mind. The majoryty of the samples are in 44.1kHz, though.BTW, since FPD98 allows you to customize the envelopes of the FPV tone waveforms, you can do it in the SoundFont, for presets that (by default) don't have a decent envelope, i.e. some pads (the majority actually ). FPD98 only allows 2 layers to be used for MIDI programs (it's called multisample in the config file of the softsynth) for example the 2nd preset (Hammer Piano) has two instruments (layers). I hope someone has understood.

I personally don't recommend BASSMIDI Driver, as it is discontinued and it has some bugs. I recommend VirtualMIDISynth (it also uses the BASSMIDI library) but it is actively being developed.

Re: A new SoundFont made by me: FPD98, a 90's Japanese soft synth

Minor update released yesterday: The preset 020 "Positive" is one octave lower, according to the original softsynth. Oh, and in case someone didn't notice, the snare of the standard kit ("GM Kit", preset 128:000, key D in octave 4) is the snare used in Sonic the hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, the clap and even other drums were used in that game (clap is D# in octave 4). A great discovery. Of course these drum samples come from a KORG synth but I don't know for sure. Also, FPD98 has 2 folders with FPV tone waveforms, this SoundFonts is based in the waveforms that comes in the PCM97 folder. Old versions of this softsynth (called "Frostforest PCM Driver", or FPD95) has some different tone waveforms, they are still present in FPD98, they can be found in the PCM95 folder. I wonder if I should make a SoundFont of those too (I'm not quite sure, but it includes a single waveform for each preset) since I don't know how the tone waveforms are set (in terms of sample settings such as custom envelopes or even vibrato) in FPD95, or FPD for PC-98 computers, I'd have to do it by speculation.

Oh, and in case someone didn't notice, the snare of the standard kit ("GM Kit", preset 128:000, key D in octave 4) comes from the KORG Wavestation SR, and it also is the snare used in Sonic the hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, the clap and even other drums were used in that game (clap is D# in octave 4). A great discovery. I wonder if I should make a SoundFont of those too (I'm not quite sure, but it includes a single waveform for each preset, and various waveforms are different) since I don't know how the tone waveforms are set (in terms of sample settings such as custom envelopes or even vibrato) in FPD95, or FPD for PC-98 computers, I'd have to do it by speculation.

Minor update released yesterday: The preset 020 "Positive" is one octave lower, according to the original softsynth.
