Re: Listening to other people talk

I think people are also scared of being wrong. Humans love to be right and it gives them immense pleasure when they find out they were indeed right. Maybe a certain sense of superiority. Thusly, some people can't let go easily and will hold on to what duct tapes their world or view together in a coherent manner, at least for them. Because we also don't like it when something we believed to have known for years suddenly turns out to be wrong.I tend not to have too many issues with that personally, I know I'm wrong on many levels and I might even just be rambling on and adding nothing to this conversation, but a lot of people need to learn to appreciate learning itself and not defend their point with claws and teeth unless they can back up their reasoning. That said, I think one of my problems is being quite heated during arguments so I just try to avoid them at all costs.

Re: Your computer's specifications

I have two main computers. My main daily driver is a MacBook Air 13 inch 2017. Intel Core I5  5350, 8 GB of RAM, nothing fancy but for what I do it's enough. Music production works, game coding and coding in general works fine, it runs well and the batteries last for a while. My gaming PC is pretty old by modern standards but I haven't run into problems with it yet. Some Gigabyte motherboard, I think it's the Z87? Still has 8 GB of RAM, it used to have 16 but one stick died and I just didn't see the need to replace it, an Intel I7 4770 and a Nvidia GTX 660.I tend to not push my systems too hard. I'm more of a productive person when I get idle time, so I'd rather spend my time creating stuff rather than trying to play games that I can't fully enjoy, and the games that I love playing run on my laptop, and the games I need more power for run on my desktop just fine.  And since I don't develop games that are heavy on the GPU I haven't run into issues yet, even with my weak mobile setup. Even complex projects run in Logic without underruns  so I'm not worried.  It's what you do with the power that you have, rather than having the power you never use. I guess. Maybe I'm just trying to justify my setup. I really shouldn't.

Hi,that unclickable buttons thing has only happened to me on Samsung phones. No other Android device I've had.But I decided to switch to iOS for the same reasons listed above. Android is great and awesome but the accessibility just feels a lot more smoothe and intuitive on iOS. I was against getting an iPhone for the longest time but I did and now I'm writing this on a MacBook Air. Go figure...

I just updated CHARM.It's a bit tedious, but it has global hotkeys now. You can edit them in the settings, I'll still make this more meaningful. Also, CHARM x86 works too now, I hope. It'll also try to fix any possible errors itself, so more people should be able to run it now.Let's see how this goes.

The X86 executable is broken, yeah. If you look at the size it's 14 kb. That's definitely not right, considering the x64 one is, like, 300?Not sure what happened there. If you get the program stopped working dialog, probably some directX component or what not isn't working right. Although you're the first one who seems to have this issue.

Haha. I should do that. The BMP is the icon the program associates with the system tray.If you get the errors, it means your PDH is broken. I'm at this moment unsure how to fix this problem, but I'm tracing it.Some updates as to what's been happening. The program now saves and loads your settings. However, there is still a problem with loading soundpacks, where values will stop updating after you select a new pack, that's the main reason I didn't update the files yet. I need to figure that out.I'm thinking of having the announcement messages self voicing for percentage of cores, disk and RAM. This might make it more universal. I'll also add SAPI and screen reader support.I'm having trouble registering global hotkeys, but I think I can get around this as well.I'm also adding a per core sound option, so you can have individual files for each core. This might be a bit messy, and I'm not sure
what to do if you have more cores than sounds. I think what I'll go for now is to simply wrap around.Oh and of course an update notification.Once all of this is working I'll release the update. But as long as I can't figure out why the values stop updating after you select a soundpack we'll have to wait. LOL. Stupid PDH...Update: I got keys to work! So that's one problem less. LOL

So yup expect to see that.3. I thought of that already. I originally wanted to use SAPI to be able to pan the voice to the core it's announcing, but I'm not sure if that might get too confusing, so reporting it to a sr would probably be the easier option. Thanks for the feedback! CHARM - Customizable, Helpful Audio Resource Monitor

First of all, thanks Pitermach for the name. Haha! No, sorry, it's not a new game. Yet. But it is a fun tool that the odd one or another might enjoy. I certainly do.CHARM is a tool that turns your computer's usage into sound. Either each individual core, hard panned from left, first core, to right, last core, or just an average of all cores, your RAM and disk usage all shape the sound you hear. It's nothing too special, but if you were ever curious as to what was going on in your computer in realtime and couldn't see any of the fancy HUD's that are available, this might be something to try. And hey, you can make your own packs!I'm not going to say too much more and let the page speak for itself. It's a pretty dirty documentation, but you should read it before getting started. You can also download the program from there. If you find any bugs or have any sugge
stions, let me know! And yeah I'm still making games. Yeah RTR's gonna get an update here soon-ish. I would talk more but hey, don't wanna steal CHARM the stage!<3

Get a pair of Andrea SB205's, 20 bucks or so, they come with a USB dongle. Get an OTG cable for plugging normal USB into your phone. Done. For the price the quality is absolutely excellent. And you can plug anything standard into a droid and it'll work. At least everything I've tried, including mice, keyboards, hard drives, sound cards, midi compatible devices, joysticks, etc.

So third parties steal videos from content creators on YouTube, upload them to THW, and let you watch them for 10hours to send you a bit of the money they make from advertisements on said videos? Huh?Or do they embed the YouTube videos on their page and just plaster the rest of it with ads, ads and more ads? So it's like a container for YouTube surrounded by ads?Come watch ads, with occasional YouTube breaks in between! LOL

Re: An accessible live chat for my website, any recomendations?

IRC servers can only be set up on a box that you have root level access to. If you do not have this, you might wanna look into something like AJAX Chat by BlueImp. It does not have auto reading of messages by default, however it can be enabled if you put Aria tags where they belong. This requires you to know your _javascript_ and HTML.There are thousands of web IRC clients, so it's just a matter of choosing one you like. You also do not need your own IRC server, you can simply use freenode or TDRealms.

Re: Security: what are you using?

I've been using Sophos ever since it got it's home free license a while ago and I've been happy with it ever since. The interface is nice, clean and simple, and the HTML aspects of it make it accessible to a high degree at least with NVDA. The cloud aspect lets me control multiple computers at once so that's also quite nice. Yeah yeah, I know, cloud and all your data and the NSA and whatever, but it's got auto scan and thread detection and everything, it's light and unintrusive, makes use of normal windows notifications for threats, and it works well. Don't think I'm switching from it anytime soon.

Re: Question for computer programmers

With practice you will get an idea about what you're doing wrong. You will learn yourself, you will learn your language, and your tools. The compiler will tell you something and you might already get an idea what the problem is.If my boss told me to write a project I would definitely not write it on a trial and error basis. I sit down with coworkers on that project, we come up with plans, design documents, blah blah blah. We spend a lot of time not actually doing any coding but thinking about how we're gonna do it, how we're gonna distribute the different tasks among ourselves, etc.So we go into the whole thing with distinct ideas about what needs to happen realistically.Debugging is a lot more trial and error than the programming itself. But even then I sometimes lean back for 5 minutes and think what the problem could be. Or look over my code really quick. The compiler gives you an idea about where the error happened and usually it's accurat
e enough for me to find the error pretty quick. And hey. If everything else fails, Google can fix your code. Or Stack Overflow can.To answer your question, in my experience your supervisor will ask you why you wrote certain code a certain way, especially at first or during application. So be prepared for that.

In regards to REAPER,the best accessibility sollution we have for it at the moment is OSARA, made by the people behind NVDA:http://github.com/nvaccess/osaraThere is a readme on the page, however I'm not sure how helpful that is to getting started with the thing. ReaAccess is outdated and the main developer disappeared. And since he didn't share his code... Yeah.

If you like the wrapping feature, suggest it to an NVDA developer, and if many people vote for it, its almost certain it will get added. If not, someone will write a plugin for it.Try that with FS. Tell them somethings broken and they will trace it back to you. Somehow. No matter what. Youre at fault for causing the problem to occur in the first place, not them for overlooking something.Im not even telling anyone to switch to NVDA. If you want to use JFW, then thats totally fine. Yet I must remind you that this topic is called nvda: its achievements over the years and its drawbacks, not I use this screen reader because x y z. Because I do believe there exist such topics in the mass.

Hi,As far as Im aware, they are doing hard work on Narrator. With every windows version Ive seen, its gotten better and better. In fact, I would say that, while not a main sollution, Narrator is quite usable. It allows for browsing the web, use chat applications, check and reply to email, this also includes Mozilla Thunderbird, Mozilla Firefox, Skype, etc. So I think this might be quite overkill.

Re: lets erge microsoft to develop a fully functional screen reader!

I know that the Windows 8 Narrator did not support iAccessible2, however I cannot tell with the one present in Windows 10 preview. However, firefox and Thunderbird do work to the point where I can read and reply to emails and browse the web...Of course, no quick navigation for headings, links and so on.The main reason why I couldnt stand using it anymore is the simple fact that it seems to lag behind quite a bit. Compared to NVDA, Narrator still seems like a very slow reacting screen reader, especially with the default David voice. It still lacks a lot of features though. No indentation reporting, no quick navigation in web elements, etc. Its quite stable though. And the fact you can toggle it with Win+Enter seems quite handy, especially since it seems to have higher priority, so itll actually run when most things dont anymore.

The reason I say this is because Ive tried the preview on Windows 10, and actually didnt feel the need to install NVDA until quite a while later. Narrator suited me fine for testing purposes. Yes, it could of course be miles better, but its definitely getting there.

Icebucket Challenge!

For those of you who totally missed the icebucket challenge craze, its basically to raise awareness for ALS. ALS is a pretty terrible disease that will first have a huge impact in your muscles. You will be able to use them less and less. This goes so far that the person who has this disease will most likely end up passing away. There is no cure for this disease, so people have invented this icebucket challenge to raise peoples awareness for this, getting people to donate. So i have been challenged. What happens is basically you get nominated, and within the timespan of 24 hours you have to either dump a bucket full of ice-cube filled water over your head, or, if you fail to do it, donate $100 to the ALS foundation at alsa.org.I took it upon myself to do the challenge. Not only did I do the challenge, but I also donated to the project since I have a friend with this disease and what hes going through is unimaginable. So, I challenged, among
other people, Aprone. I never thought he would do it, but it turns out that he did, and now, three more audio game developers are on the list to do it!The links to our challenges:Mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W858ZBzj1kYAprones: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4XslcysooISo who gets to do it next?Watch Aprones video to find out!

Re: How much does spelling matter

Just to quickly encourage people, there are more than enough sighted people out there that dont know/dont care how to spell, so sometimes, their forum posts do seem just like some of the ones I see here. And while mine definitely isnt perfect, I try to keep it at the most perfect level I can keep it. Anyway, youre not the only one, so make them look up at you by being better than them!
