Re: Let's talk about windows seven end of life...

I have to agree completely with Jayde on this one. I'm running the November 2019 update on a PC from 2012, and I haven't experienced any lag at all. Granted, this computer has 8 GB of RAM, an Intel I5-2320 CPU, and an SSD, but most newer computers should be able to run Windows 10 just fine. I also ran earlier versions of Windows 10 on a laptop with less RAM, a weaker CPU, and a traditional HDD with good results. The privacy concerns are well warranted, but most of the tracking settings can be disabled through the settings app or the registry if you wish. There's still a way to only create a local account if you don't want to log in with a Microsoft account, but I've heard Microsoft has made it harder to do in the last few updates. I wish they'd just leave it up to people what kind of account they want, but that probably isn't going to happen.I've been using Windows since 2002, and I feel like Windows 10 is the most stable and least error-prone iteration I've seen. Going off the top of my head, I can't recall a single major crash or error in the four years since I switched from 8 to 10. Windows 7 was much better than  8 for stability, but it still doesn't beat 10 in my opinion. Another point in Windows 10's favor is the fact that I can install it on my own using Narrator. The days of having to ask for sighted assistance or use a pre-installation environment are gone, and I couldn't be more happy about that.

Re: Accessible Shortwave Radio?

Okay, the advantage of an SDR is that with the right unit, you can basically go from DC all the way into the GHz range with no gaps in coverage. The down side is that any SDR with a lot of spectrum accessible at once is going to require a great deal of power to run. To give you an idea, my Airspy R2 with 10 MHz of spectrum can barely record on a desktop computer with 8 GB of RAM and an Intel I5-2320 CPU. For that reason, I don't take the Airspy on trips. That's what the PL-880 and the police scanner are for.On the other hand, you can connect certain programs like RDS Spy and DSD+ with Virtual Audio Cable to an SDR. RDS Spy allows you to decode and read RDS information for any FM radio station that has it. DSD+ allows you to decode lots of digital modes like P25, DMR, etc. With enough spectrum accessible at once, you can even listen to trunked systems, although I haven't messed with that too much.I really like the fact that I can record 10 MHz of the radio spectrum at once with my R2. I can then go back later and look through the recordings at my leisure. To do the same thing with regular radios would be pretty much impossible. As far as scrolling up and down with an SDR, it's fairly easy with HDSDR. All you have to do is press the applications key, select how far you want to scroll (1 kHz, 200 kHz, 1 MHz, etc). You can then scroll up and down with the ctrl-up arrow and ctrl-down arrow keys. I've heard it's possible to hook an SDR to a manual tuning knob, but I don't know much about that. You'd still need a computer to work with an SDR at any rate.

Re: Accessible Shortwave Radio?

Hello,I'm glad I could help. Anyway, the software I use on Windows is called HDSDR, and you can get it from hdsdr.de. You'll want the stable version, 2.76A, because the beta isn't as accessible. To control the program, you can use the keyboard. To enter a frequency, just start typing numbers. For example, to go to 5025 kHz, just type 5025k or 5.025m. If you need  to adjust the LO, or center frequency, type the letter l, then type  your frequency into the edit field that comes up. To find more keyboard shortcuts, press F1, select the button that says "keyboard shortcuts" with the arrow keys, and press enter. Most functions of HDSDR are accessible from the keyboard. If you're on linux, I've heard GQRX is accessible, but I don't know much about it.To get HDSDR to work with the HF+ Discovery, you'll need an extIO. An extIO is a DLL that allows the software to work with the SDR. You can get the one for the HF+ Discovery from the Airspy.com download page. You'll also need an antenna to connect to it. the Discovery has an SMA connector.Another option you might want to look into is the Airspy R2 or the RSP 2. These SDRs have a much wider frequency range, and they can record 10 and 6 MHz of spectrum at the same time. I personally  own the Airspy R2, and I love it for what I want to do. If you're only interested in shortwave, the  HF+ Discovery is going to be more sensitive in those bands. However, if you have any interests above 260 MHz, you'll need something else.

Re: Torrent Technology

Hi Chris,As I understand it, you can seed without your client's port open. Having the port closed just means any connections have to be started on your end. In other words, people can't connect to you, but you can connect to them if they have their ports open. Having your client's port open means you will be able to make connections with more peers, because people without open ports will be able to connect to you.As to your second question, a tracker is a server that helps peers find and connect to each other. With protocols like DHT, trackers aren't as important as they used to be, but they can allow you to discover peers more quickly.

Re: Accessible Shortwave Radio?

I don't know of any shortwave radios that talk, but I own a Tecsun PL-880, which is fairly sensitive in the SW bands. It has a keypad, so frequency entry is easy. On the rare occasion when I need to know what's on the screen, an app like SeeingAI or TapTapSee can be used without much trouble. It's portable, but you can still hook it up to an external antenna if the stock whip isn't enough. It covers longwave, AM, and all the way to 30 MHz. It also covers FM from 64 to 108 MHz. Unlike a lot of radios, it supports USB and LSB modes. Last time I looked, these radios were going for $159.Another option you could look into is the C. Crane radios. I've heard a lot of good things about them, but have never owned one.If you don't mind having to connect your radio to a computer, the Airspy HF+ Discovery is an SDR that has been compared favorably to receivers several times its price, and it was designed with performance in the HF bands as its main goal. It can also record up to 768 kHz of spectrum at once. The HF+ Discovery is available for around $170.

Re: taking care of technology

I second having never broken any of my electronics. I've been using iPhones since 2011 and haven't had any major drops, and I do use my phone while on the toilet. However, I use Bluetooth, which means I don't have my phone in my hand when I'm actually on the toilet or close enough to drop it in the water. When I'm walking around, my phone is in my pocket 99% of the time. As far as I'm concerned, it all comes down to being careful and not putting your devices in a position to be damaged. That being said, I always use cases on my phones. You can get a good case with a built-in screen protector for less than $20, and I'd rather spend a little for decent protection and not need it than have an accident, unlikely as that may be, and be out hundreds of dollars to get it fixed. As for cosmetic damage to the device itself, I don't care unless I can feel it. If there was a chip missing or some other damage that I could feel, it would drive me crazy and I wouldn't be able to leave it alone. The same goes for my case. The case I got with my latest phone was a piece of crap. I eventually had to find a better case online, because pieces started coming off the back of the old one.It doesn't really matter what other people think when they look at your devices. There are far more important things to worry about, and anybody who judges you on the state of your electronics has the bigger problem IMO.

Another idea would be to go with a Reddit clone like Raddle, Saidit, Voat, etc. I can see a similar situation to the one here playing out on Reddit, especially if people are requesting copyright-infringing material. Plus, a subreddit would need some serious moderation to keep people from posting direct links, as I think that's where most of the trouble lies. That's the approach other subs have taken, and they've still caught the attention of the admins.

Hi Daniel,I've tried several different pieces of software for SDRs over the years, and HDSDR is the best I've found as far as accessibility goes. The SDRplay website has a page where you can go to register your RSP1A and download the software you need. You can find it at https://www.sdrplay.com/start-here/. If you don't need support, you can just go to the downloads page directly. One of the links should let you download a version of HDSDR that will work with the RSP1A. Once you have HDSDR installed, you can hit F1 from within the program and choose "Keyboard Shortcuts" from the list that comes up.I use an Airspy R2, so the process I went through is a bit different, but those links should get you going. Duolingo is good for learning vocabulary, but not so much for grammar. For grammar, you might want to check out the Language Transfer Spanish course. You can find it on Youtube or at their website, languagetransfer.org. LT doesn't just hammer you with sentences an drills and expect you to memorize. The instructor actually explains why certain constructs work the way they do. It is an excellent course and I'd recommend giving it a try. The course primarily focuses on Latin American Spanish, with an occasional note early on if the Castilian pronunciation is different (E.G. words containing z's or c's).

For one, the links on the Audio Vault are Sendspace Pro links and will allow you to download far more quickly than Blind Mice. Also, if you're ever looking for TV shows, Blind Mice doesn't have them at all any more. Finally, the Audio Vault doesn't care where you're accessing the site from, so no VPN necessary.

Re: mixer problem

Hi.The most likely reason I can think of for everything to play in mono is that Windows likes to set new devices to one channel by default. To fix this, do the following:1. Press windows key + r. This will open the run dialog.2. type in mmsys.cpl. This will open your sound settings in control panel.3. Go to the recording tab in the sound dialog.4. Select your mixer in the list of devices.5. Tab  to and press the properties button.6. Go to the advanced tab in the properties dialog.7. There is a combo box in this dialog. You can set the number of channels, bit depth, and sampling rate from here. Change the number of channels from 1 to 2 and press enter to save your changes. If you've tried that and it didn't fix the problem, there may be an issue with the way the mixer is connected to the computer. If the computer is going into the mixer via USB, the above solution should allow you to hear and record in stereo. If you have the computer plugged into one of the channels on the mixer, you will need a y cable. One end should have a 3.5mm male connector, which goes into your computer's line out or headphone jack. The other end should have two quarter inch or RCA male connectors that plug into a stereo channel on your mixer.

Having tested a few of the different types of switches, I'm going for the clicky switches as well. A lot of people in the forums and on Reddit where I've been looking say the major brands like Corsair, Razer, Logitech, etc are good, but you can apparently get better quality for less. Does anyone here beg to differ? The brands that are commonly thrown around include Ducky, Filco, and Leopold. After looking at a bunch of reviews, I'm thinking about going for the Ducky One 2. This is in no way set in stone, so I'm also interested in hearing suggestions. The problem I see with a lot of mechs is that they have RGB lighting, which is completely useless to me and adds considerably to the price. @Ty: What exactly happened to your first mechanical keyboard?

Re: Program to change a set of file names all at once?

Command prompt would work in some instances, but from the research I've done, I don't think it's as powerful or flexible as PowerShell. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I do know that regular expressions don't work in command prompt when renaming files. The basic gist of the PowerShell command is this:get-ChildItem | rename-item -newname {$_.name -replace 'insert regular _expression_ here','string to replace any matches with'}Now I'll break it down piece by piece:get-ChildItem: lists all the files in a directory, just like cd in command prompt. If you want the command to list and/or operate on the current folder and all subfolders, add the -recurse switch. You can also do something like get-ChildItem *.mp3 if you only want to list files with the .mp3 extension.| (vertical bar): feeds the output of get-ChildItem to the next command.rename-item -newname: Takes all the files fed into it from get-ChildItem and changes them depending on the _expression_ that is given to the -newname switch.{$_.name: The left brace opens up a script block. The $_.name just says "do something to the name of each file that you receive."-replace: This is a PowerShell operator that allows you to replace part of a file name or list of file names with something else or nothing at all if you so choose.'insert regular _expression_ here': Regular expressions would take far too long to explain adequately, but there are lots of tutorials that are only a Google search away. I'll give a few examples of what you could do at the end.'string to replace any matches with': You can put some text here or an empty string, and the part of the file name(s) that match the regular _expression_ will be replaced with whatever you want.}: closes the script blockClarifying examples:get-ChildItem | rename-item -newname {$_.name -replace 'cat','dog'}: replaces all instances of cat with the string 'dog'get-ChildItem | rename-item -newname {$_.name -replace 'cat',''}: replaces all instances of cat with an empty string, which removes it from each file nameHere's where the power of regular expressions starts to come into play. For these examples, let's say you have an SFX library like an idiot and you want to remove the first part of each file name. You could do something like this:get-ChildItem | rename-item -newname {$_.name -replace '^.+? - ',''}: Says "only match at the beginning of each file name (^) and match one or more of any character (.+), followed by a space, a dash and another space. Replace any matches you find with an empty string." As for the question mark after the +, that just tells the regex engine to stop as soon as the pattern is matched rather than match as much as it can. This is called greedy vs lazy matching if you  want to find out more. For example, if we have a bunch of sound effects that are explosions, and they have the string "Explosions - " at the beginning of each file name, the regex engine will match on it and replace it with an empty string. We tell the engine to lazy match because if we didn't, the engine would keep going after the string " - ". If we had a file name like "Explosions - Vol. 1 - bomb.wav", the lazy match would stop after "Explosions - ", leaving us with "Vol. 1 - bomb.wav". If we left off the question mark, however, it would match on "Explosions - Vol. 1 - ", just leaving us with bomb.wav. Both types of matching have their uses and it's up to you whether to use one or the other.I hope this has been helpful. If you have any questions, let me know and I'll try to help you out. There is a lot to learn about regular expressions, and I barely scratched the surface here. I found that the tutorials at https://www.regular-expressions.info/tutorialcnt.html helped me increase my understanding of regular expressions.

I heard a few of the shows audio-described on blindy.tv a long time ago. I didn't find the descriptions distracting at all, but that's just me. I agree that most of the content of the show is self-explanatory, but audio description would be nice to have for the occasional scene or joke that relies on visual information.

Re: Program to change a set of file names all at once?

Can you be more specific about what the file names look like? Are the category names separated from the rest of the file names with spaces? With dashes? An example would be helpful. You should be able to use a regular _expression_ to replace the category portion of each file name with an empty string, giving you the files without the category names at the beginning. I can tell you exactly how to write it if I have an idea of what the file names look like.

I suppose it's possible that the fire was started by terrorists, and I admit that was one of the first things that came into my head. However, I'd think they'd be bragging about it by now if that was the case. There have been rumors that the fire was somehow connected with the renovations that were going on, but who knows. Re: what's the best way to learn an additional language

Hello,I have been working on getting better at my Spanish. If you are looking for a podcast to help you, might I suggest Language Transfer? Each lesson is around10 minutes, and they mostly teach grammar. They try to make the lessons memorable. English speakers have an advantage when trying to learn a language likeSpanish since English borrowed a lot of words from Latin, which Spanish descends from. They don't really teach you to memorize all the words. Instead, the instructor shows you how to go through the process to remember a word if you've forgotten it. They teach all the verb tenses and proper sentence structureas well. They start out with converting words from English, so they're not throwing you in the deep end right away. For example, the first lesson startsout by telling you that most words ending with -al can be directly converted to Spanish and have the same meaning. There are exceptions, of course, butthis generally holds true.Another idea is to use a spaced repetition system like Anki to study vocabulary. I recently created a couple decks, and I feel like they're helping me.I use AnkiWeb since the installed application isn't very accessible. To help me remember, I mainly use the close card type, which makes me fill in theword missing from a Spanish sentence. To help the words stick in my head, I try to keep my sentences short and memorable. If you're learning Spanish, spelling shouldn't be a big issue since it is a very phonetic language. For instance, the letter 'a' will always sound like 'ah' no matter what. The same goes for most other letters. A couple letters like g or c have two sounds, and the h is silent. However, there will never be deviations from those rules.French is a lot more tricky. The only thing I can suggest is to learn the spelling rules. Evena language like French has some method to the madness, or so I hear. There are websites where you can practice writing in your chosen language and get feedback from native speakers in return for money or correcting theirEnglish writing. However, I haven't used any of these websites so I can't really say much about them. Along the same line, there are websites where youcan talk to native speakers over Skype or other VoIP software. They will help you with your Spanish in exchange for help with their English. I've thoughtabout trying this once I improve my listening comprehension some more.

Re: what languages do you want to know?

I would recommend Language Transfer. Their website is https://www.languagetransfer.org. They also have a Youtube channel. They offer courses in French, Swahili, Italian, Greek, German, Turkish, Arabic, Spanish, and English for Spanish speakers. Some of their courses are works in progress, but I know the Spanish, Swahili, Greek, and German courses are complete. I listened to their Spanish course and was impressed. They don't just have you mindlessly memorizing and regurgitating words. I felt like I actually understood sentence structure and verb conjugations by the time I finished the course, and the instructor made it interesting. They emphasize learning grammar and structure over vocabulary, so you might want to use a website like Duolingo as a supplement. Don't get me wrong, you still learn plenty of vocabulary and the ability to figure out a lot of words based on English.I can't speak about any of their other courses since I haven't taken them, but the Spanish course is a winner in my opinion.

Re: Whatcha Eating?

From the few times I've had kalamari, I don't remember it having much of a flavor at all. I didn't really care for it. On the other hand, I could eat crayfish and shrimp all the time. I also had some flame grilled oysters once when I was in New Orleans for Mardi Gras. They were delicious. They were like eating very tender pieces of steak, and they had that strong seafood taste.Spiciness for its own sake doesn't impress me. I will happily scarf down something that makes my eyes water and my nose run, but not if it has no flavor to back up the heat. That's the main reason I never get the blazin wings from B-Dubbs. They just tasted like pain the one time I had them. To me, the mango habanero wings strike a nice balance between heat and flavor. As for Ass in the Tub, the name by itself would make that a no go for me. The spicy stuff on vat19 looks awesome, but it may be above my tolerance level. I may have to bite the bullet some time and find out.@45: That dinner sounds amazing except for the peas. I'm not a big fan of peas either.

I love spicy food. Speaking of which, I had a foot long chicken, bacon and ranch sub with provolone cheese, spinach, onions, pickles, and lots of jalapenos on Italian herb and cheese bread for dinner tonight. The night before, I had grilled barbecue ribs, potatoes and green beans. I usually stick with either water or tea to drink, but I will occasionally indulge in a soda.We have a Thai restaurant here in town where I like to eat from time to time. Thai food is awesome, especially the curries. My favorites are the green and panang curries. They occasionally serve this papaya salad called som tam that tastes amazing. However, I can't eat it and be around people because it apparently makes my breath smell terrible. Must be all the fish sauce they put in it. I've only been brave enough to get four stars out of five on the som tam, and even that's super spicy.I am also a fan of Buffalo Wild Wings. My favorite wings from there are mango habanero, Asian zing, Caribbean jerk, and garlic parmesan. I tried the blazin a few years ago and they were a bit too hot for me. I'm pretty sure they've reformulated them to be even hotter than they used to be.

I own an Airspy-R2. I got it for FM DXing a couple years ago. In my experience, the best software to use with SDRs is HDSDR. Most of the functions have keyboard shortcuts. If you pair an SDR with a programlike DSD+, you can decode DMR along with many other digital modes. Unfortunately, HDSDR doesn't have any way to scan a range of frequencies as far as I know. There is a plugin for SDR# that will, but that program is mostly inaccessible. There are a couple programs that have trunking features if your SDR has the spectrum, but I haven't had much luck with them. Granted, I haven't messed with them much either.

Re: iPhone X/xr?

Hi.I wouldn't recommend upgrading from the 8 as long as it hasn't slowed down too much and can handle everything you are throwing at it. I'm still happy with my 8 Plus and plan to keep it for at least another two years. That being said, the X and XR do have some benefits over the 8.Both the X and XR have 3 GB of RAM instead of the 2 GB in the 8, so having the extra RAM may help if you're experiencing slowdowns when multitasking or playing games. The X has the same A11 Bionic CPU as the 8 and the 8 Plus. The XR has the new A12 Bionic which is supposed to be slightly faster, but chances are you wouldn't even notice the difference in the real world. You do get a larger capacity battery with the X and XR. Upgrading to the X would give you a 2,716mAh battery as opposed to the 1,821mAh you have with the 8. The XR has the best battery life of the three with a capacity of 2,942mAh.I don't know how you feel about bigger screens, but the screens of the X and XR are both quite a bit larger than the 8. The 8 has a 4.7 inch display, the X has a 5.8 inch display, and the XR has a 6.1 inch display. I personally like a bigger screen since it gives my fingers more room to spread out. When I upgraded from the iPhone 6 to the 8 Plus, I thought I might not like the larger screen, but I was used to it within ten minutes and haven't looked back. Now when I have to use someone's older iPhone, my fingers feel cramped by the smaller screen. As for the camera, the 8 and the XR have the same single rear facing lense setup. However, the XR is supposed to take sharper and more detailed photos due to its improved processor. The X has a dual lense setup. In addition to the camera you get on the 8 and XR, you also get a telephoto lense, which is supposed to help in situations withlow lighting.I hope this helps you come to a decision.

Re: I just got back from the movies and...

@ChrisIt appears the company behind MoviePass is on its last legs. Who knew offering unlimited movies for $9.95 a month wasn't a good business strategy when the studios were charging them $12-$14 for each ticket? Not the folks at MoviePass, apparently. They increased their subscription price from $9.95 to $14.95 a month and stopped allowing their subscribers to see the most popular films. I suppose that still isn't a bad deal if you go to the movies more than once a month. However, they have a bad reputation for making big changes on the fly without warning people first.Speaking of AMC, they have their own subscription service now. It costs anywhere from $20 to $24 a month depending on where you live. It was a flat $19.95 a month, but they were losing money hand over fist just like MoviePass. I have no idea how well MoviePass or AMC's offering works because I never go to the movies.I think movie theaters are poor value for the money. If I'm going to pay $10+ per ticket, I don't want to have to listen to ads and other assorted nonsense first. If you include the insanely high price for snacks and drinks, people talking through the entire movie, and babies crying, it doesn't make for a very pleasant experience. I'd rather save my money and wait for the movies I want to watch to appear on Netflix or the movie vault. D-BOX sounds really interesting though. I may have to go check it out some time.

Re: What is Everyone's Religious Beliefs

Okay, Jesus's sacrifice is another problem I have with the Bible. Let's assume for the sake of argument that everything in the Bible is true and Jesus sacrificed himself. Why was that necessary in the first place? Assuming God is all powerful, he could have just decided not to be such a dick, but no, the only thing that will satisfy him is to see his only begotten son tortured to death because humans aren't perfect. That imperfection, by the way, is by God's own design if you believe in the Bible. Acording to the Bible, Jesus rose from the dead three days later and was eventually taken into heaven, but that still doesn't answer the question of why his sacrifice was necessary.Jesus's sacrifice brings to mind the time when God tested Abraham. For anyone who may not be familiar with the story, God told Abraham to take his son Isaac and sacrifice him as an offering to the lord. Abraham was just about to kill him with a knife when the angel of God essentially said "hang on a minute, God just wanted to see if you'd do it." TO me, that doesn't sound like an all knowing, all powerful, benevolent deity. That sounds like a seriously insecure sociopath. With all that being said, I have no problem with people following whichever religion or belief system they choose. As long as they aren't hurting anyone, I say have at it. I do think telling children certain things should be discouraged, however. For example, scaring small children with hell and demons should not be allowed. Many children haven't developed the faculties to think critically about such issues, and they believe whatever they are told by the adults in their lives. I know a lot of people will say they're just teaching the children the faith, and they have only the best intentions. However, there's a very thin line between teaching them and using fear as a cudgel to get them to tell themselves they believe, even if they know deep down that none of it makes sense.

Re: What is Everyone's Religious Beliefs

Ever since I let my family know that I don't believe in God, they have either been worried that I'll burn in hell or they think I'll magically change my mind one day for no reason. Many of them can't even comprehend a life without belief in God.Supposing for one second that I'm wrong and there is a benevolent and all knowing god out there, he/she/it would accept me as I am, having created me and everything. If it turns out there is a god and he/she/it is a flaming asshole who would subject his/her/its creations to an eternity of burning in a lake of fire for any reason whatsoever, I would never worship such a deity in the first place and screw the consequences. Speaking of eternal torture, I feel that sort of punishment is overkill, even for the worst of humanity.I tell people who ask that if I was presented evidence that there is a god, I would be willing to change my mind. However, I would have to see some damn solid evidence first. Many times, they come back with something along the lines of "Well, you can't prove that God doesn't exist." My reply to that is that it is not my responsibility to prove the nonexistence of God. The people making the claims are responsible for proving them, and I haven't seen any proof at all yet. Until the day comes where I am proven wrong or I die, I will happily live my life under the assumption that there is no god, nor has there ever been a god.

Re: Does Anyone Still Do Jailbreaks, and is There a Guide

Hi.Sideloading just means getting an app on your phone without going through the official app store. Cydia Impactor is one way to sideload apps onto an iOS device. All you have to do is open it up, select the file to sideload, enter your Apple credentials, and off you go. There are four types of jailbreaks for iOS devices.Tethered jailbreaks are the least desirable because they require you to have access to the jailbreak tool on a computer every time you want to reboot your device. If you're out and about with no access to a computer and your device reboots or shuts down, you're simply out of luck.Semi-tethered jailbreaks are similar to tethered jailbreaks, but your device will still be able to boot to the non-jailbroken state. However, you still have to use a computer to re-jailbreak.Semi-untethered jailbreaks boot to the non-jailbroken state just like semi-tethered jailbreaks. However, they don't require a computer to re-jailbreak. A sideloaded app is usually used for this purpose instead. Most jailbreaks that have come out in the last couple years have been semi-untethered.Untethered jailbreaks are the most desirable because once you're jailbroken, you are set. Every time you boot your device, it automatically boots into the jailbroken state without you having to do anything. Jailbreaks like Absinthe and Evasi0n are untethered, but iOS 9.1 is the latest version with an untethered jailbreak available.

Re: What is Everyone's Religious Beliefs

I was raised Christian, but I have been an atheist for many years now. Organized religion just seems like a way to keep people in line. That being said, I have no problem with people practicing whatever religion they want as long as they aren't causing harm to others or using religion from a position of power to manipulate people for their own personal gain. The idea that there is an invisible being in the sky who watches everything you do and keeps a checklist never really made sense to me. Once we die, my belief is that we simply cease to exist. There is no reward or punishment after death. I don't believe there is any purpose in life other than the purpose we give it ourselves. There is still so much we don't know, but humanity is making progress. I have hope that in the distant future, we will have a much better grasp on the way the universe works. Many formerly unexplainable phenomena have been explained through scientific study. Science isn't perfect, but it is our best shot if we want to truly understand how the universe operates. To me, religions take all the mysteries of the universe and say, with no evidence to back it up, that "(insert random deity here) did it" instead of saying "We don't know why it happened, but hopefully we will some day."

Re: Does Anyone Still Do Jailbreaks, and is There a Guide

Hi.As far as I know, iOS 12 isn't jailbreakable yet, but there have been some promising advances in the last few weeks. When I jailbroke my iPhone 8 Plus on iOS 11.4 Beta 3, the first step was to sideload the ipa using Cydia Impactor. After that, at least on Electra, I had to turn on airplane mode, disable Siri, and a bunch of other crap to make it work properly. Even then, it had a decent chance of failing. It took me multiple tries to jailbreak successfully. As for the Electra app itself, VoiceOver has no trouble reading everything on the screen. Cydia Impactor is accessible on Windows. I also used it with no problems on a VM of High Sierra. There's apparently a project in development known as JailbreakMe Unified that would allow jailbreaking from a website in Safari. It should support iOS 4 through 12.0.1. If that falls through, the iOS 12 jailbreak may be similar to Electra and the like, but that's just speculation.I say that because jailbreak apps like Electra have been the status quo since iOS 10.

If you enter the page for a certain season, there will be a zip file with everything somewhere among the mp3s. Re: preserving the BMMV TV shows

I have American Dad as well. I noticed that the seasons were mislabeled. Season 3 was labeled as season 2 on BMMV, all the way to the end. Also, the link that purported to be season 1, but most likely held season 2, lead to a file deleted error. Season 1 wasn't there at all. If anyone has American Dad! seasons 1 or 2, please let me know.I could use seasons 2 and 4 of The Big Bang Theory as well.@Stevie-3I'll see what I can do about The Simpsons since I enjoy the show and will be downloading it anyway, time permitting. Which seasons do you need?

Re: Sad news regarding the blind mice movie vault

I bit the bullet and got a month of Sendspace Pro as well. I'm going to spend the next few days getting what I can off the Vault.I really wish Blind Mice had given this problem more thought rather than just throwing in the towel on their entire TV section. Surely there was a better way to handle the problem with Google Drive or another file hoster. Also, I just discovered that Jeff Rutkowski's Webpage has a TV shows page with a fairly large selection, though probably not as large as the Movie Vault. It can be found here. Perhaps Jeff would be willing to put up any shows we can salvage?

Re: Sad news regarding the blind mice movie vault

If what SirBadger said in post 15 is true, most of the Sendspace links should still be active even after they are taken down from the movie vault. Therefore, we should be able to copy the links to a text file and download them at our leisure. That's probably what I'll have to do since there's a lot of content I want to get off there and thanks to the blazingly fast 80 KBps download speed, it's going to take forever.

Re: Should Porn Be Banned On College Campuses?

I understand certain people not wanting to watch porn. That's their prerogative. However, it sounds to me like these people are trying to shove their views down everybody else's throats. Also, Chris made a good point. Those who care to can get around any filtering scheme with ease.People are going to watch porn regardless of any measures taken to stop them. All having filters would do is delay someone's porn watching by a minute or two and create lots of unnecessary work for the IT Department.
