Re: Why I am 100 percent against schools for the blind I started school in a public school which had a classroom specifically for the blind students in the area in side it. We got to go home every night, and we never really interacted with the sighted kids there at first. But as I entered 3rd grade, I started to mainstream slowly into lessons with sighted peers.They increased the amount of mainstream time until the end of 4th grade, when they thought I was ready for full time mainstreaming. I then went to public school from grade 5 on. Compared to some of you guys's experiences, I had on ok time.Public school, on the other hand, was a nightmare. People were always horrible to me. But I wouldn't have changed how it went, I would've never stood for being in the school for the blind full time. I couldn't handle the way they want to control every aspect of life. I am a rebel and probably would've been kicked out anyway if I had to deal with anything close to some of the things listed above.It's really interesting to read about everybody's experiences. They make me glad I never went to one full time. Re: Monthly chat december Just thought Id share a little in this topic as well.My year has been decent, it is the first year of my sons life where he has been cancer free and that has been such a huge weight lifted off of the shoulders of me and my wife. He was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma, tumors in the retinas of the eyes at five days old and it was an eighteen month fight. Thankfully we saved both of his eyeballs which wasnt the case when I had the same cancer which turned out to be genetic.As far as the prejudice of people goes, they constantly fought me and my wife because of my total blindness and her legal blindness, thinking we were incapable of taking care of a newborn baby going through chemotherapy. For the record we did just fine, gave him his shots ourselves and did maintenance on his pic line ourselves without any problems at all. Although the hospital tried to get him taken from us, CPS had nothing on us and left us alone.Now, however were preparing for a cancer free and peaceful Christmas, even though we are dealing with a toddler who is going through the most terrible twos.Having said that, we have done our best we can as parents and get constant compliments on how smart he is.Weve had to take most of our decorations off of our Christmas tree because the little guy couldnt contain himself from ripping them all down and throwing them and breaking them.All the same, there is no better feeling then being your little boys Santa Claus.@tom, being totally blind with a child I cant imagine the struggles you are going through, I wouldnt know whether Id want to cry or punch somebody, how degrading and demoralizing, I feel for you sir and sincerely hope things look up for you. Re: what I want Hi,I had my times, especially in high school where it got to me so bad Id just come home, lock myself away and cry because I couldnt make friends while my brother was really popular. It has turned me into not such a sociable person, I get along with people but am perfectly content being left well alone. It is tough at times especially now, being a husband and a father and not being able to work to support my family. I had to completely uninstall the driver for the DVD drive and note the exact name of the drive itself and search for its driver again online.
