Re: Accessible Coffee Preparation
Re: Accessible Coffee Preparation @18Which model are you using? Also, what are the features of the machine that I should be looking for from an accessibility perspective?I basically wanted to know in general whether the steps to preparing an espresso are accessible or not. Based on some research and videos that I've watched, it generally involves the following:1. Fill the tank with water. Preheating the machine so that water is at the right temperature. I gather that having a machine that has an electrical thermostat that is able to do this for you would be useful2. Grind beans and tamp them, it sounds like this is a way of pressing it down into the brew basket? Then insert the brew basket3. Pull the shot, running water through the beans into a cup. I've seen guides on using the colour of the water coming out as a way of knowing when to stop the process so this part sounds inaccessible. But I've also seen that you can stop the process after a preset amount of time and weighing the amount of coffee to know how much was made.Do any of these steps cause any difficulty accessibility wise?Regarding frothing, is the frother a separate machine that you just pour milk in and it froths it for you? Finally, I've also heard that it could get messy. I've not used an espresso machine before but it sounds like coffee / beans could go all over the place somehow and create a mess in the kitchen if not done right? Re: accessible backup tools I've tested the The windows 10 64-bit PE image by Carlos which works like a charm; I was able to boot from a USB drive in UEFI mode. He has also made it easy to add your own programs to the environment, which I've done after some assistance from TeraByte support on which files need to be included for Image for Windows to work. I can go into more detail if anyone else's interested.I'm not sure about whether the recovery environment in post 14's link works, have not tried it.I'll report back again when I've tried SyncBackPro. Re: accessible backup tools
Re: accessible backup tools I just discovered something called SyncBackPro which looks like a very good solution for folder-level backup (about the only thing it doesn't do is image backup). Its very accessible, unlike most backup/synchronization software out there and is extremely configurable and feature-rich. There're 3 versions of SyncBack: the free edition, SE and Pro; the last 2 are paid but have free trials available. Will report back when I've actually ran backups with it. accessible backup tools
accessible backup tools I've been thinking about automating my backups, and am wondering if anyone here has any suggestions as to what things I could use that are accessible. I'd strongly prefer using something open source, compression and encryption would also be really nice to have.there're 3 types of backups that I need to do.1. I'd like to do automatic versioning for things like my folder where I store all my university-related work. For example, automatically creating snapshots at hourly intervals only for files that have changed in that period. Compression and encryption would be nice so i could have e.g, dropbox be one of the backup destinations.2. Synchronization: for folders where versioning isn't needed such as media, ebooks, etc. It needs to support synchronization of locked files using something like VSS. It would be nice if this supported automatic synchronization upon insersion of a USB device.3. Disk imaging: I've been searching for a tool that would allow me to independently restore my computer from an image for a long time. Re: Becoming a computer programmer
Re: Becoming a computer programmer I'll address the challenges you'll face doing CS.1. Accessible math. You'll need to be able to read mathematical content which requires the material to be prepared using MathML or the math expressions to be in latex. I find that fluency in latex helps tremendously not just for reading (latex is used a lot by professors) but also for writing. If you can't find a latex/MathML version, you'll need to hope that InftyReader is able to convert the math content for you. If you have a disability office that takes care of this for you, this would be a lot easier.2. Accessible diagrams. It's very difficult (if not impossible) to explain some concepts without use of diagrams such as binary search tree rotations, graphs, etc. You'll need some way of getting access to these.3. Accessible tools. You'll need to use things like integrated development environments, which accessibility range from OK to non-existent. How much trouble y ou have with this would depend on what tools your course requires you to use. There's always the command line if all else fails. Eclipse is the most accessible IDE i've used. Visual studio is tolerable with JAWS but unbearable with NVDA. Re: A Modern Day Comparison of JAWS and NVDA Its a real pain to get jaws to work properly with audiogames because of its intrusive keyboard hooks.I do like NVDA a lot more than jaws especially when dealing with large amount of content like a 1000 page book in a single html file. Jaws takes much, much longer to load the contents of the file into its virtual buffer, and even then navigation around the document is nothing short of agonizingly slow because of lag.Unfortunately, I am still forced to stik with jaws because of its better support for some applications like visual studio.
