I was again rather drunk, but not as drunk as my sighted (and much smaller) boyfriend, as we emerged from a bar. What followed was about a quarter mile of me walking down the street, pretty much carrying my boyfriend as he shouted directions at me: someone took objection to this rather unconventional method of sighted guiding and grabbed my arm. "Do you need any help?" he asked me, in a voice which indicated that I would struggle to understand his words. "Yes," I replied, "If you could help me carry the luggage (i.e. my boyfriend) that would be superb." The guy did end up helping me carry my boyfriend to his accommodation, he stayed and had a drink and he and my bf have been very good friends ever since. I feel that I am supporting the creators in the same way that a sighted person is, by buying these services: however when something is not available on UK Netflix, I have to download it from AV unless I feel like trying to find it in my region in dvd format (which I don't.) By far the oddest example was on a documentary film, in which there was no audio description track in English. There was, however, one in Polish; which doesn't make sense on British Netflix for which an audio description track is available. My argument isn't that blind people in any way deserve to get the same content for free or for less money than sighted people, indeed if the movie distributers wanted to make a service like audiovault, with the same levels (or more) of content I would gladly pay for it. The thing is however that, even in a country in which audio description is far more well-developed than in many others, they simply don't. There are films available on AV that are obviously audio described, but which for whatever reason the distributers have chosen not to make available with that feature in my country. The real question is: if they make it physically impossible for me to get it legally, what am I costing them by getting it illegally? I'm not a potential customer because they won't sell me the product. The fact that an unrelated forum has arisen does not negate the fact that this forum is at present not up and running: for one, the discussion has not yet moved to it, for another with the random and unannounced periods of downtime that like to occur on Masons other projects it does not seem like too much of a logical jump to assume that this might not be the most stable, long-standing forum that the internet has ever seen. Aaron's proposal is entirely reasonable in the regard that it fecilitates the moving of AV discussion from this forum to another purpose-built one without the need for a possibly crippling period of consusion where there is no effective place to discuss this. What is not reasonable however is the clear lack of professionalism that you have shown in this situation: admins and moderators need to agree on something to do, and act as a team in doing it. It is both unprofessional and unhelpful to have two wildly different moderation policies in effect on the same forum, and leads to confusion: if you feel that you cannot cooperate on a team led by Aaron then I feel you should consider your place as an admin. Publicly sniping at someone you have to work with is not how to go about this. However, since I only got my LLB last year, and my LPC this year (the lpc is the thing that lets you be a solicitor in the UK), no company has entered me onto a database since my contract doesn't start until September. The only way I could give any proof of my qualifications is to send a scanned copy of the physical certificate, which I wouldn't be comfortable doing with all of the PII present on that page. Moving to America is something I see in my near future (blind guy moves across the atlantic without family, this will be fun!) so that's why I have such an interest in American law. They might have had the right end of the stick on that one, particularly as I can imagine automation replacing more human workers with computers. In my opinion, the world requires a truly militant blind organisation, because in so many settings blind people are excluded from fundamental rights (the most glaring example in America being that most states won't give a blind person a concealed carry license.) Re: Audio Described Content I've been active on online forums, both as a user and an administrator, for over 10 years and I can say conclusively that Jayde's attitude to criticism is some of the worst I have ever witnessed from an administrator. As for the question, I'd recommend discord, as you can open tickets (good for requests to stop them cluttering up the chat), customise it, and have multiple discussion channels. Given the attitude of the audiogames.net moderators and administrators however it might be worth opening that discord group up to far more discussion than just audio described movies. broken external hard drive: anyone able to help? Hi, Whild downloading a large amount of data, my external hard drive gave up the ghost. It is recognised in divice manager (as 'working properly'), beeps when you plug it in, and gives the 'safely remove hardware' prompt, however can't be found in disk management or windows explorer. Is anyone able to help me work out what is going on, or even better how to get it going again?
