Hello,@Brad: thank you for letting me know; I'm glad someone noticed. I've just edited the posts in the places you've mentioned so they should be fine now. Other than the mistakes I'll probably continue to make, I hope you like it. We've just put up another recipe for stuffed pork loins so hopefully I've managed to sort this one out.@Nocturnus: I hope you like it! I'm glad you like the idea; myself and my friend have been thinking about doing this for a long time and are really glad that we've finally stopped being lazy and gotten around to it.Thank you to everyone else who has visited the website from the forum, we really appreciate it! Also, please feel free to make any suggestions for recipes that you'd like to be able to make or that you currently struggle with. We will be adding additional tips for those of us who are blind on the recipes such as tactile methods for determining whether or not meat is fully cooked ETC. Also, sometimes we have to learn to cook certain things differently to sighted individuals and if you enjoy cooking but are unsure of a way round a certain issue feel free to ask and we will try our best to help.

Re: texture sensitivity

Hello.I'm not very texture sensative myself but I find everyone's responses really interesting. The only texture I really can't stand is one that I luckily don't have to deal with any more. When we first moved into this house the bath, sink and toilet etc were already plummed in. We had a steal bath which I'm guessing was once coated in enamel but it had all been removed through the years. I absolutely hated using it because it was so rough and if I ever caught it with a finger nail or something it would make me cringe and want to jump out.Suffice it to say we got rid of that bath almost immediately and although it's been years I can still clearly remember the way that texture made me feel.

I tried just after I posted on here last night but I thought that perhaps the folder was still uploading so I tried again this morning with no luck. I'm using firefox with NVDA and when I go into the dropbox link a blank page appears without any way to download it. Does anyone know what could be going wrong? Knowing me it's probably something relatively simple that I've overlooked

@Dark, that's actually a really good idea (about using a jug and then pouring it into mugs), I can't believe I've never thought of it before. Thanks for the tip, that'll be really useful and as you said, it's better and quicker than doing separate ones in the microwave.@Pitermach, they actually don't cost that much; I think I paid around £40 for mine and it's rather large. Hi Aaron,I think it's great that you're trying to make independence more of a fun thing to learn, rather than a chore. My independence is pretty good, but it could always be better.I agree with everyone else on this thread that personally, debit cards work for me as I have no way of going into debt.@turtlepower17, I do exactly the same where remembering my debit card details is concerned. I too have memorised all of the numbers now and it really is great to do, but even if people struggle with that, writing it down in a secure place is really important. In terms of identifying money, I asked a long time ago to be shown each note and by now have memorised which is which. I think it's really cool that there are so many ways of identifying them.As far as other things that you can try to do, you're doing really well already to be honest. If you wanted to try some other simple and fun things, you could:Make a hot drink.. I know so
me people might not agree with my way of doing this, but I understand that some people really have a problem with using the kettle. I too used to have this problem and only recently have I used it without worrying. Before, however, when making hot chocolate (the only hot drink I really enjoy) I mixed the powder and milk together (I never use water) and put it in the microwave for about 45 seconds to a minute. In using this method however it is advisable to only fill the mug or glass about 3 quarters of the way as if you fill it any higher it might over flow. If you find that you do fill it too high however, don't worry as I tend to put a plate over the microwavable one which will catch any liquid that goes over the side. Another option that can help those who find the kettle difficult/annoying is to use something called a "hot water dispenser." I don't know if you can get these in other countries, but we do in the UK. They're kind of similar to a kettle, but
in stead of a spout, they have something similar to a tap that you place your mug under and they pour the liquid into the mug for you.I hope these tips help!

Seing as this topic doesn't seem to be very busy right now, I thought I'd post my own reply. So far, January's been a rather "interesting" month. I wouldn't say it's been the best ever, as whilst it's gone okay so far for me, there's been a lot going on in the world that hasn't made a good start to the New Year.Last week was a prime example of this; first David Bowie died, then Alan Rickman. Though I am sad about both, I feld worse about the latter as I've always thought Alan Rickman to be a great actor and known him to play roles in many things besides Snape in the Harry Potter series, all of which were (in my opinion) rather well played. In my own life though, I've had a rather boring start to the new year. So far, all I've really done is go back to college for one of the last times (I finish in June), do my mock exams, reply to a few university offers and get a horrible headcold.

I'm really pleased for you and hope it works out.As for me, I've also had a very busy few months, hense why I've not been on the forum as much as I would have liked. I've had a lovely Summer break, starting with a trip to Center Parcs in Sherwood, which was incredible! We rode tandems, went swimming, ate a lot of lovely food and just had a great time. After that, I didn't do too much to speak of a part from preparing for my last year of college before university, which is something else I'm really looking forward to. I got my results in August which, thankfully, were really quite good. That motivated me to work extra hard this year, which I've already started doing. I got back to college on the 6th of September, and so far it's been going rather smoothly.

Hi,[[wow]], that sounds like it could be a really interesting thing to do. I know what you mean about feeling that you dont have the expertise and the right to give someone that level of punishment, but on the other hand it could give you some real life experience.Well, my lifes pretty boring at the moment. Ive finished all my exams for the year but unfortunately Ive had to stay on at college until this time next week as I am starting my A2 subjects (the final year of A Level for anyone who doesnt know). In the last few weeks Ive had a bit of work to do but not a lot; in between work Ive been reading a book in the Morganville Vampires series which Im finding very enjoyable, and spending a lot more time outside than I would usually. The weather in the UK has rather surprisingly been lovely over the past few weeks. Yesterday it even got to 32 degrees (something I thought would never happen).Tonight we have our leaver’s dinner or Prom as they call it in some places which Im rather looking forward to, however I hope it doesnt decide to thunder as its looking rather dark outside... On Saturday we have our annual speech day which should be quite boring as usual, but after that Ive not got much to do and Im leaving for home next Thursday. On the 13th Im heading to Sherwood Forest to go to Center Parcs and I cant wait! My whole family and a few family friends are going, so that should be really enjoyable.

Re: echo location?

Hi. I can imagine for those who have no sight at all it would be easier at night as the sound in some areas is indeed clearer, however like cinnamon I find it more difficult sometimes. I think this is because I have pretty good light perception, and therefore when its dark I automatically feel more blind... Its hard to explain.

Re: echo location?

Hi Dhruv,Yes, I also use this. The only sight I have is light perception and Ive used echo location since I was about 4. I can tell where barriers, doors, walls, fences, tables, cars and even curbs are and where the gaps are in them. I can also tell the difference between a wall, fence and hedge for example.

An update

Hi all,As some of you might have noticed, Ive not been around on here for quite a while now. its not that Ive decided to leave or moved onto better things, Ive just been rather busy. What with being in the second year of sixth form now (which for those of you in the UK or that dont know is basically the last year of school / college before University) and trying to keep up with doing 3 ALevels as well as just life in general, Ive been pretty busy for the last few months. But, for now at least, the pressures off for a while. Im currently on my half-term break before going back to college, and even afterwards, theres not so much work to be done now as the exams are in May and June. So for a while I should be able to come on here a lot more often. Since all of this has been going on, Ive not had the chance to check out all of the new games available but having checked the news and new releases room, Im now planning to start gaming again. Its nice to be back, and as I said before, Im planning to stick around for a while.

Hi.@Dark, yes, according to my family, its rather cold in Scarborough at the moment. We had a bit of ground frost a few days ago, but yeah, the weathers so unpredictable here. Down in Worcester, (where I go to sixth form) its slightly warmer, but I think the colder weathers finally setting in.)

Hi.@Dark, yeah, I do go there. I quite enjoy it, having gone through mainstream all my life, I thought Id try it to see if it was any better for me. The ILS and mobility is really useful, but I like both mainstreme and Worcester.@Welshwer, oh [[wow]]. Well, just in my opinion, Im certainly glad its not the RNIB college anymore. The RNIB are ok, but (or so Ive heard) ever since it stopped being an RNIB college, its improved. And I know what you mean; I enjoy mainstream, but its a good place to make friends.

Yeah, tbh the RNIB is pretty dodgy. Ive met a few people who used to go here back when it was still run by the RNIB and theyve said it seems a lot better now. But I can see where youre coming from.

Re: Monthly chat October

Hello.[[wow]], good topic!I too have noticed recently that a lot of the topics in this room are to do with technology, so I think its a good idea to just have somewhere to talk about a lot of other things.Well, as some of you might have noticed, Ive not been on the forum in a long while. This isnt because I dont enjoy coming on here anymore, or that Ive moved onto better things; its just Ive been so busy with so much recently. I often come on here to look at the topics and see if anything interestings happening, and today since Ive not got as much to do as I have had recently, I decided to log in again. Well, lets see. Since the beginning of September, Ive been back at college. Im pretty busy with a few assignments I need to get in at the end of the week, but like so many others, Im
terrible for procrastinating. I often find I work better when Ive not got all that much time to do it in anyway, since I know that I have no chois but to get on with it.Im also pretty excited; this weekend one of my friends from college who left last year is coming to visit us all again for the weekend. Its more than likely that well go out, have a meal and probably stay up half the night talking about completely random things. A part from this, Ive not been doing much else. I too am glad its autumn though; I love this time of year! Although actually, here in the UK it does seem unusually warm for the beginning of October, well, at least down south it does. I expect that back in Scarborough its pretty cold, but I look forward to going home for half term in two weeks.Well, thats it for now, but Ill check back at this
topic and be sure to make more posts.

Re: Free Youtube To MP3 Conferter

Hi,Personally, I find pontes media downloader really useful. Ive managed to download a lot with it and unlike some online converters, you dont have that annoying no vidio longer than 20 minutes is able to be converted notice. Also, as it is made with the blind in mind the accesibility features are obviously really good. Ive tried a few online ones and liked most of them but pontes beets them all, for me anyway.
