Yeah, I mostly keep the level indicator around so I don't stick my finger in someone else's coffee, less of a problem during covid.Electric kettles are the norm in Canada too, I don't think I've actually seen a non electric one in my life.

I know a lot of the fancier Keurigs have a hot water function, I'm just not sure why you wouldn't want to pour normally. It isn't that bad, if you don't want to use your finger to track how much you've poured you can get a level indicator for pretty cheep

Bluetooth audio receiver doesn't have that problem on my end, maybe try updating it? I'm also using Jaws so that might be why.I've not been able to figure out how to use Across. for one thing, unpairing my phone to repair it with across breaks bluetooth speaker, then once I have my phone paired I can't figure out how to switch to bluetooth keyboard mode.Ideally I'd want to be able to use both at the same time, although if I can only use one or the other, audio receiver wins.

I'd like to be able to connect my laptop to my phone via bluetooth, then rout sound to my laptop so that I can use my phone and laptop at the same time using the same pair of wired headphones plugged into my laptop. Is this possible?Relatedly, is there a way to connect a windows pc to an iphone as a bluetooth keyboard? If there aren't apps for this, could they theoretically be made?

Re: Anyone here dealt with Del's Max Audio Pro?

You verbally give them your team viewer info once you call them, they're pretty quick about it, they're usually connected in under 30 seconds. aside from the jaws offer, everyone gets free 5 minute calls every few hours.I have no idea how this would work with a sound system because I've never used one, but for me all I had to do was plug in my headphones, have them disable sound enhancements, disconnect them, and do the same with bluetooth audio. I assume there's a way to select inputs somewhere in there, but personally I didn't want to mess with it. I also specifically left it on for speaker audio, as on a laptop without it it gets really tinny. The particular popup I'm talking about is the one that appears when you plug something into the headphone port asking what device you've connected. If you don't want enhancements at all, your choice here shouldn't matter anyways so I had Aira just uncheck the don't show this box again thing.

Yes, I did mean the Max Audio Pro control panel, I should have been clearer on that.As defender said, Aira and team viewer is your best bet, they just have to click disable sound enhancements on the main window. Even if you can't get the jaws offer, you can likely get it done in the 5 minute free call. You can also get them to get rid of the popup that appears every time you plug in a new device.

Re: Anyone here dealt with Del's Max Audio Pro?

You should be able to disable sound enhancements with sighted help from the control panel, keep in mind that it's device specific so you'll have to do it for each separate thing you plug in. I've never tried it with a sound system but assume you can still do this.  You could then use a program to loop silence so that you don't constantly lose the first second of speech.I have no idea how to get rid of it, it auto installs even after a clean install of windows. The only way to get it to stop is to use the generic drivers, but as you've already discovered that has problems of its own.If you find a way to completely get rid of it do let us know.

Re: Accessible texting from laptop

I mean, clearly it is if Dell managed to pull it off. Their solution is to connect to the phone by bluetooth, and the limitation is that you can only see texts that you get while your phone and laptop are connected, but still.I'm wondering if it'd be possible to write a script to make it workable, even with the jaws curser I can't get it to read incoming messages or specific contact names in any way. The contacts thing is fixable because there's a search bar you can use. I don't know anything about programming though, so no clue if it's possible.Honestly though, just being able to use the laptop as a bluetooth keyboard for texting has already been a pretty decent middle ground fix. I just leave my phone unlocked near me and it'll read out incoming texts, I respond through the app. It's pretty useful for conversations with single people, it gets problematic when you try having more than one conversation at a time. The laptop also intercepts incoming calls now, which also isn't too bad of a feature. Shame I can't rout facetime video through my webcam, although I guess that'd be pushing it.

Re: Tips for my first Solo Journey Abroad.

Personally, I've found using Aira at airports to be a bit of a gimmick, honestly wouldn't suggest it. It's great if you're sitting near your gate and want to find a coffee shop or something, but otherwise just use airport assistance, they exist for a reason. I've found that airport security and flight attendants both have no idea what to do with me if I walk up using Aira, which slows down the process significantly. Plus airports aren't the greatest for cell reception sometimes.Other than that all the advice here is great. Generally, if you're traveling in North America or Europe, you shouldn't have any issues, I've only ever been forgotten at airports in the middle east, and even then really rarely. Still, it's good to ask where the nearest counter is in relation to you whenever you're left anywhere, even if your assistant tells you it's only for a few seconds. My worst airport experience was probably the time I got placed on a bus to another terminal, got told by the guy assisting me that he'd just be sitting a few seats down, then the guy got off the bus for some reason. Took me 3 stops before it clicked that he'd vanished. But, generally, there will always be 50 million people around you in an airport who know English, and it's really rare that you'll ask a person for help finding the nearest staff member and they'll say no, even in social distancing times.Good luck on your trip.

Re: Air Pods max/me likey/kind of want

I honestly don't understand who these are aimed at, other than the real Apple fanboys. They're too expensive for your average consumer, audiophiles won't touch it because bluetooth audio is inherently worse and these don't even have a headphone jack (why don't these have a headphone jack?). They don't even fold down for travel, so the business execs who might have picked it up to make a statement while sitting in first class won't bother.Oh, and the case looks like a bra, a butt, or a really ugly purse, depending on who you ask, so there's that. It doesn't even protect the band, the most damageable part of the headphones.Honestly, the AirPods Max have been an amazing advertisement for the Sony XM4s, I'd never heard of them till a few days ago, but now if I ever need new headphones it's where I'm going to start. Did I mention they're $270? No way apple's headphones sound twice as good to justify twice the price.

Unless you already have a job offer in the country you're trying to move to, or are getting married, it's generally really unlikely that you'll manage to pull it off. there are all these random exceptions that you can use to try and make yourself qualify, but governments have a vested interest in keeping you out, so they will make your life hell. I mean, you do you, but thinking that brexit won't fuck you over is very short sighted and the entire reason the UK is in the mess it's in to begin with. The EU might be rather shitty, fully agree there, but you know what's even shittier? Having to have emergency stockpiles of food because you can't buy them from anyone once January roles around and Bojoh drops you guys out with no plan. The EU is not the most democratic organisation, and honestly as a leftist I fully understand how you can see it as the imbodyment of everything evil about capitalism, but just dropping out without a plan is not how you deal with any of that, and it was pretty clear even back in 2016 when the actual referendum happened that any deal you guys were going to get was going to be awful anyways. Much more effective to stay in and have at least some say in the regulations that affect your biggest trading partners (before you say the US will step in to fill that role might I suggest you get yourself a map and realize how much further away the US is).I think the UK election is another huge reminder though that calling the other side dumb racists is not how you win elections and only serves to mobalise the opposition. The day of the election my facebook feed was full of my UK friends making pro Labor memes and acting like they'd already won and thank god now we can finally fix the mess those idiot leave voters left us, then were shocked when they woke up with a Con majority. This you are wrong and racist and I won't dirty my hands by interacting with you instead I'll just make sure you can't express your opinions anywhere I can see it and pretend that means they went away attitude is how the world got Trump, how the UK got Brexit and now Bojoh, and it needs to stop. Some day we on the left will need to learn, and I just hope that day comes before it's too late.

can't delete a file on my computer

2019-08-14 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : rashad via Audiogames-reflector

can't delete a file on my computer

was trying to get rid of the cosmic rage soundpack that's been sitting in my dropbox for years for some reason, couldn't figure out how to remove it from dropbox itself, so instead cut and pasted the folder out of dropbox and into documents, thinking I'd just delete it there. Now I can't delete it, it asks for admin rights, I give them, and then everything fails. So, I went through the obvious stuff, went into properties and checked the ownership and permissions, as well as deleted and readded the different user group permissions, then tried to delete it from the command prompt, and still nothing. I'm stumped, and kind of want this off my hard drive now out of shear annoyance more than anything else. The internet suggested c cleaner, but I couldn't figure out how to target that particular file.It also suggested running a file scan through the command prompt, which discovered the problem with the folder in question but then failed to fix it.Anyone have any solutions?

@102, see post 47 and 48 in regards to airplane exit rows.I'm trying to picture a non-foldable cane up to my nose being at all practical and failing. Just no. I said that I use a cane that comes up to my collarbone, in retrospect I over estimated. sternum is a lot more accurate.

Re: What is wrong with the NFB?

When people say long cane, how long are they talking. I've always been taught to use a cane that comes up to around the collarbone and I can't imagine using anything longer. I can't imagine a situation where that would be an advantage no matter where you're going. Also, what's the logic behind banning folding canes? Where are you supposed to put the thing. If you're in a car, are you supposed to just leave it awkwardly lying across the entire car where it'd be annoying for everyone else? With sleep shades, I get the logic, I just think it's dumb to expect people with stable vision to do it. It doesn't matter if 15 people have different levels of sight, you just work assuming the lowest level, and if people with more sight develop their own ways of doing the same task on top of what you're teaching them, then why are you discouraging them.

Sure, you might manage to strike down a couple laws (clearly unlikely) but in the meantime you'll be actively working to keep a system that prevents people from doing whatever the fuck they want  running smoothly.@45, sure blind people can open an exit hatch. But, most blind people aren't taught to open an exit hatch. A sighted person can read the instructions posted on the hatch, and thus open it even if they have no idea. in the mean time, a blind person would spend the time fumbling around like an idiot trying to find the latch while also having no clue what to do when they do. It's also about who gets out of the aircraft first. the first people out of the aircraft are required to help the next people out until the crew can get out, and a blind person cannot be expected to efficiently do that.

Re: What is wrong with the NFB?

The logic on display here still blows my mind. Using the same arguments, you could argue that any sort of test for anything is discriminatory because it is designed to prevent certain people from passing. Also, if you truly think that handing someone with extreme mental and learning disabilities an assault rifle is a great idea, well I guess there’s no arguing with you but anyways. For everyone else, it's like saying that a driving test is discrimanitory because it stops a blind person from getting a driving license. We all agree that blind people shouldn't be driving, yes? Also, blind people can’t sit in emergency exits on flights because they can’t operate the emergency exit doors, witch are visually signed. Placing them there not only puts them in danger, but puts everyone else on the flight in danger. I’m all for equal rights, but there comes a point when enforcing equal rights puts the lives of others in danger. As to the actual point of the topic, I’m with the majority here, the NFB very much falls into the same category as SJW’s, in that it’s fun to shit on them but without them we’d be in a lot worse of a situation.

2019-07-08 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : rashad via Audiogames-reflector

Re: applying in universities as a student with a disability?

@11, yeah, the Canadian system has it’s benefits and it’s drawbacks. On one hand, they’re very up front on who’s getting in and who isn’t, if you’re above the grade threshold then you’re in, if you’re not, then too bad. It’s great if you’re good at school. If you aren’t, tough luck. Their logic is that they’re here to help you achieve your academic potential, and you being good at sports or having been president of student council says nothing about your academic potential. As to scholarships, well first you need to be aware how much less tuition is in Canada. Using my example as a Canadian citizen, I’m paying 4k a year for my undergrad at a school that is ranked in the top 30 worldwide (not that rankings tell you anything but just to give you an idea of what the equivalent might be in the states). So part of the reason so many Canadians are successful is that they don’t end up in crippling debt after a single year. 12k for my entire degree vs 400k in the US.Even at the international level, tuition is significantly lower. I’ll use my school, McGill, as the example again just because I don’t really know the rates anywhere else but am assuming they’re comparable. You’re still only paying 20k a year, compared to the anywhere from 40 to 100k a year you’d be paying in the states. There’s just less emphasis on scholarships, especially for Canadians, because everything is a lot more affordable. That’s not to say there aren’t any, there definitely are, but a lot more of them are specifically targeted towards people with financial need rather than being for anyone and everyone who checks off a couple boxes, because most people can scrape together 4k a year.@1, basically everything I just said is at the undergrad level so take it with a grain of salt.@12, what are you getting a visa for, because it depends. If you’re a student with a letter of acceptance trying to get a student visa, you’ll have no issues. If you’re a tourist planning to come visit, then leave, again no issue. If you just want to show up for no reason and start living here you’ll have a harder time of it. But that goes for everyone, not just people with disabilities. No one is ever going to turn you down for a student visa just because you’re blind.

Re: Audio Described Content

Legally, The difference between the audiovault and organisations like bookshare, the NLS/CNIB/RNIB is that in the official organisation's cases, the main reason copyright holders let them distribute material is because they check that their users are actually disabled. From a moral standpoint, TV and movies are a huge part of culture. Blind people are already left out of so much, suggesting that they be left out of popular media as well is insane to me. As someone who has subscriptions to 95 percent of the services that the Audiovault gets it's stuff from, I don't feel that I'm stealing in the slightest when I use it. But, for example, Take game of thrones. It's a show we can all agree would be very difficult to watch without AD. and yet, unless you live in the UK, there is no AD to be had. The day you show me a legal way to acquire AD for something like GOT is the day I stop thinking the vault is necessary. It's also really funny that people are being told to use VPN's. that's still illegal.

Re: applying in universities as a student with a disability?

@5, in Canada no one cares. Most universities don't even have you submit any essay of any sort at the undergraduate level. The only affirmative action type questions I was ever asked on a Canadian university application were whether or not I was native or had parents who went to the same school (does the second even count as affirmative action?). Sometimes they'll ask you if you have a disability, but the two universities that asked me both asked me only after I was accepted and specified that they were only doing so so that they could put me in contact with the disability office.@1, unfortunately I'm not a grad student so have never done a graduate application, but the answers for questions 1, and 3 are no, no one really cares. and the answer to 4 is probably, although it depends on what university you go to studying  in what field. As for 2, it's debatable. I also don't know how the graduate level application works, because at the undergraduate level you never need to provide any essays and I imagine that at least for some graduate programs it would be the same, but I'd be lying if I said I knew. Also, going to Quebec is a great excuse to pick up French and you don't need it to study if you stick to schools like McGill.

Re: Which staff member do you dislike the most?

While I think this topic was in extreme bad taste, what's done is done now, and we might as well examine the results. It would seem that in an extremely short amount of time, Jayde has managed to become the most unpopular moderator in this forums history. I feel confident in saying that at no point was Dark viewed this negatively, and it's not like it was because he was easier on the moderation trigger. It seems that Jayde just rubs people the wrong way, which makes me wonder: if the point of moderators is to reduce general drama and toxicity, is it not in the forum's best interest to replace the mod generating the most drama and toxicity? In the end, it doesn't come down to whether or not Jayde is a good moderator, or suited to the position, or whatever. It comes down to the fact that him continuing as a moderator directly undermines the stated purpose of having moderators in the first place.Again, my opinion of Jayde is irrelevant here, I actually like what the guy has to say most of the time, save for the little obsession he has with patting himself on the back in every single one of his posts. But if you hire a security guard to make people feel safer on a property, and said security guard is randomly attacked by random people on a regular basis, causing an increase in violence, it might be time to look into hiring a different security guard, not because the first security guard is bad, but just because he has a punchable face causing him to do the opposite of what you hired him to do.

Man, has the quality of this show dropped. There is so much wrong with the last few episodes that I just don't know where to start. Spoilers if you haven't gotten past EP 2.It really annoys me that their entire reasoning for having Aria kill the night king was it would be unexpected. They decided to do it two or three years ago, and you can tell. The way they had to reword the red woman's proficy to make it sound more related to the night king was very telling. It seems though that they just want to get rid of every aspect of magic as fast as possible in the show. the dead are gone, I wouldn't be surprised if the last of the dragons dies off soon.

Re: Planning on Upgrading my Mac: How much performance improvements can I

Putting this out there as someone who had a mac for the longest time, I was extremely unsatisfied with it for school. I found it to be a real hassle to properly format anything when compared to word on windows, with everything being doable but taking much, much longer, and this was even before I started doing Powerpoint and excel assignments. Whenever I complained about the hassles of writing on a mac, I was told to use text edit, but text edit is not something you can use in an academic setting because of it's formatting options. To this day, I couldn't tell you how to do a hanging indent on a mac, or how to get footnotes working. Now, I don't know if this is just user error, so someone please correct me if I'm completely missing the mark. In the end I went ahead and bootcamped my mac, at which point it felt like a huge waste that I'd paid several thousand dollars for the thing. And this is even before we get into the new ones, which have the keyboard, which is awful, and the touch bar, which is worse.

It's literally just a message board with fancy titles and maybe a little money. You point out in your video that this organisation would not be recognized by any other real countries, and then go on to say that it would negotiate with all the countries of the world. Most countries don't make a habit of negotiating international policy with random people off the internet.British Empire: Which countries would unite, exactly? Not only have many of these countries had horrible experiences of British colonialism and so have a very strong cultural desire to have nothing to do with England, but many of them are not doing so well economically, and we've seen how Britten feels about propping up countries that it feels aren't doing as well economically, cough Brexit cough. This is not even getting into the logistics of something like this, like how you're going to convince countries that are doing just fine economically, places like Australia and Canada to join up. And we haven't gotten into the democratic disaster yet.

I live in Quebec, the French speaking part of Canada. You’ve probably come across Poutine (fries with cheese curds and gravy for those who don’t know), which was invented here, and if you speak French you’ve probably seen at least one sit com episode that jokes about how unlike normal French Quebec French sounds. It’s an interesting place, to say the least. Being the biggest non-English speaking area for several thousand KM in any direction creates some interesting oddities, as well as an intense determination to keep the culture and language going even with all the external push back. Quebec produces more French entertainment media than any other place on the planet, including France.

I'm looking for a headphone solution that is both wireless and also latency free, no idea if this exists or not. I need something that I can use comfortably in any environment, aka class, and that has as little latency as is humanly possible when paired with a windows pc. the Airpods are great, but when I tried a friends, they have an extremely noticeable lag when connected to a PC vs when connected to an iPhone. anyone have any ideas? multi device support would be a great plus, but not the end of the world if it doesn't have it. Context when I say as little latency as possible: used an app to measure the airpod delay, it was under 150 MS and was still driving me absolutely batty, I couldn't do anything because the slowness was just so distracting. I have my speech rate set to 100 percent with eliquence, so that 0.1 seconds  is huge. shame, too, because on the iPhone the Airpods work like a dream, I couldn't even tell I was using wireless headphones till I walked away with them in my ears.

Re: Terrible, Awful, No-good, Very Bad...spelling?

I think it’s worth noting that a lot of the judging here is going on based on what people write on a forum about gaming/how people write in chat rooms. I, for example, am a lot more willing to comb through my writing if it’s being judged academically or professionally than if it’s just something I’m writing to a friend. Sure, I might write engin vs engine in a chat room, but I’d never make that same mistake in a context where that mattered. The real problem is when you honestly can’t tell that you’re spelling something wrong, like writing baddle vs battle and not realizing that the first of those is absolutely wrong and no sighted person would ever know what you were talking about. As long as you’re aware when you misspell a word, you’re probably fine.

Re: Honest discussion, why pay for and use jaws over free screen readers?

What it eventually comes down to is support. I’m a student- I need access to the ability to quickly and efficiently format text in very specific ways including color and very specific spacing for cover pages and the like. I can’t be doing this in notepad- you cannot reasonably submit academic papers in notepad, and Jaws is just better at office support than NVDA, there’s no denying it. On top of that, Jaws has technical support during normal business hours, so if something goes wrong during an exam, or I need to prove that Jaws doesn’t support a particular application I’m being asked to work with (I had a teacher who wouldn’t let me just use a different, actually accessible stats package without a lot of back and forth), there’s a number I can provide to be like, here, talk to them, it’s not just me making things up here. And as previous posters mentioned, NVDA’s addons are a security risk. In the age of what sometimes feels like daily data breaches, are you seriously surprised that any company is worried about letting someone accidentally  leak confidential info? The problem isn’t the open sourceness of NVDA, it’s that you could write an addon that on the surface checks the weather, but secretly logs every keystroke and thereby collect a password or other confidential info.Honestly though, for me it’s a bit irrelevant. As long as I am either a student, actively seeking a job or employed, I get Jaws for free, at which point why not just use it? It’s faster and snappier in most cases. I have NVDA installed mainly for games, if I’m being honest though.

Re: How do you all handle public gyms?

I'd suggest going in at a quieter time the first time,  a Tuesday at 11 ETC, with a friend and just walking around a bit, paying particular attention to head height obstacles (just last week I almost lost an eye by walking in to a pull down bar that was just floating around in the middle of nowhere ).With machines, it really varies. I've been in gyms where all the machines are the same and so if you know how to use one treadmill you know how to use all of them, and some where literally nothing is the same, so it really comes down to luck.Generally though, just make sure you know where the quick start and resistance/speed/inclination/emergency stop (depending on the machine) buttons are. If your gym has spinning bikes (the ones where you control the resistance with a nob), I tend to prefer those because then you don't need to deal with a screen at all.Free weights, dumbbells barbells etc, tend to be a bit of a challenge, just because you can't grab a couple and just keep them for more than 5 minutes without seeming like an utter jerk unless it's a super big gym or it's just very empty. For those I'd really suggest finding a gym buddy, in your case your sister, because while dumbbells are pretty straight forward, it can sometimes be a pain to find other types of weights if you're looking for something specific. Plus, blind person alone with heavy weights and no cane walking around a generally semi crowded area which is how weight racks tend to be is just asking for something to go wrong. Also handy to have a spotter instead of asking a random person. I just take a friend along and ask them to hand me my weights while they're grabbing theirs. When changing weights on machines, make sure no one else is using a nearby machine before reaching for the weights, sometimes machines are connected and the weights they use are close to each other, so you can get your fingers nicely crushed if you're doing it for the first time and aren't sure which plates you need. I tend to just ask someone to show me the first two or three times just to be safe, unless the machine is completely not connected to anything else.Someone feel free to correct me if I missed something/if you disagree.

Re: What do You Guys Want to See in an Independence Training Center

Realistically though, are services for the blind really that bad in the states that people are having to go private? Here, if I need something taught to me such as O, free help is just a phone call or email away, and I can be assured of something being set up within the next week or two max depending on the urgency of the request. Yes, it's true I live in the second biggest city in this country so that might be part of it, but at the same time I know of people who have had O instructors, occupational therapists, etc flown to them while living in a remote community in middle of nowhere northern Quebec. And this is keeping in mind that other Canadians tell me that Quebec is the complete worst at providing anything compared to what's available to them.So is it really that bad? If so, in what way? does it just not exist, is it not timely, is it ineffective. Keep in mind I spent the majority of my childhood in Saudi Arabia, so I get what it's like to not have services and to have to make do with what you've got. But even there, organisations for the blind exist and provide some training in the basics of at least O and braille usage (not the best training, mind you, but still better than nothing, enough that people were comfortably continuing into college). Are you telling me that America is worse?Or is it that the crazy NFB fundamentalists have wormed their way into services, convincing people that it's better to fall off a cliff and die than to ask a sighted person for directions (that NFB drop thing is not sitting well with me anymore).

Keep in mind though that I do think that the term could be phrased better.Case in point, the Esquire article that's blown up the internet the past few days. personally, I see nothing wrong with it, other than perhaps the fact that it was put out during black history month, but that's not what has everyone up in arms. I feel that the danger of a term like "white privilege" is that it creates an echo chamber. it makes it too easy to minimize the experiences of straight white males, who have to deal with the same human struggles as everyone else. it makes it too easy for any of us people of color to blame everything that has ever gone wrong in our lives on racism, rather than being self reflective. it turns everything into a race/sex/sexuality issue, when sometimes it's just a "you're completely unqualified to be here" issue. I'm not saying this is what happens always, mind you, I'm just saying this is the inherent danger of a catch all term phrased to minimize everyone who identifies as one particular group. It also completely kills any conversations about class, which, especially when it comes to something like higher education, I'd argue is the bigger deal, and especially in here in North America, is not given nearly as much attention as it deserves.

also.@ironcross: I'm not particularly a fan of the phrasing of the term, but if you admit the phenomenon of white privilege  doesn't exist then you're delusional. I'm not going to paste the straight white male privilege checklist here, because I'm sure you've seen it, so I'll leave it at this.I look very clearly Arabic. My middle name on my passport is Mohammad. I will guarantee you that I have been held up at airports significantly more often than you have simply for this fact. That is white privilege. It is not your fault, and very few people are saying that it is, although it is true that those very few tend to be very loud. The idea behind accepting white privilege is recognising that a problem exists to be able to solve it. it is not intended to assign blame to any one person or group of people, but rather to shed light on the fact that society as a whole focuses very heavily on race, gender and sexuality when making decisions and being a straight white male tends to get you the more favorable treatment. That is all. Also, about trans gender people, if you will not support them for their own sake, then to quote John Oliver, "at least do it for your own. because we've been through this before, we know how it ends. if you take the anti civil rights side, and deny people access to something they're entitled to, history is not going to be kind to you."

@24 the reason you reinstall the drivers is usually to get rid of the audio enhancements that ship with the machine. they tend to mess up how a screen reader sounds, especially through headphones.

Re: suggestions needed for good quality laptop

I have a dell XPS13 9370 with an eighth gen I7, 16 gigs of ram and a 512 gig SSD with the intention of making it last the next five or six years at least.I've gotta say I'm pretty happy with it. Other than the annoying dell checkup software which is only meh accessible half the time, and the waves max audio pro thing which is disabled with a reinstall of the audio drivers.I've had it for about six months now, and the fan has only been really loud maybe twice during that time. Usually it's not on at all, or if it is it's not particularly loud. Also, the touchscreen is handy, particularly when asking for sighted help finding a particular control ETC.

Re: Absolute truth, the testament of truth.

What about the first person who was ever murdered. Or the first person who was ever raped. What did they do in their past lives. Your belief is circular, and thus cannot account for a beginning.

Re: Weird Siri Behaviour

I have an iPhone 8.The closest I get to this behavior is Siri occasionally glitching, causing me to have to press the home button multiple times to get out of the siri screen and try again. It's never stopped working completely, though.Have you checked the siri volume, maybe? it's separate from the main system volume, so possibly that's what's been happening?

Re: Traveling (abroad) and getting independent: let's share some experienc

Curious, have any of you ever traveled alone completely as a tourist, without knowing anyone at your destination? As in, just to experience a different country, not for any particular purpose other than as a vacation. If so, what kinds of things have you done?Just curious, because many of the more touristy attractions don't seem like they'd be particularly accessible (or particularly fun even if you could make them work) as a blind person. Like, I'm sure you could walk through the Uffizi, but how much would you really get out of it with no sight. And unless private tours are financially viable for you, how could you safely participate in tours without being accidentally  abandoned in some random area in a foreign country where you don't speak the language and can't sign at people?Don't get me wrong, I've traveled  independently before, I've just always either met up with friends at my destination or had been traveling to atend a particular event.

Re: Off topic, Media Extra

You know what they say: If it looks like shit, smells like shit, and tastes like shit, then, well. Not sure what the huge fuss is though. if people feel like downloading it and maybe infecting their systems, all power to them. it's their system, not yours. not so sure why people are so heated about it, I'd think a warning would have been enough.I'll definitely be giving this one a pass, though, considering the guy's literally been caught out at distributing malware before and his response was to then frantically say he'd abandon the project, not abandon the project, abandon the project, and subsequently  delete a shit tun of posts off his website, which in my book is not particularly confidence boosting.
