Re: Curious about the Book Port Plus / Plextalk Get a victor reader trek or stream second gen instead. The book Port plus was nice when it came out but now, it's rapidly going obsolete. The stream/trek can download books directly from online libraries at least in the US, they also have access to the iTunes podcast directory and OO-Tunes for web radio where in the book port and plex talk you have to manually download your podcast feeds as OPML files and your web radio stations as M3U. The book Port and Plex Talk run a version of Windows CE, so they're not going to be able to connect to mobile hot spots if you care about that. The victor reader as you know has a nice little feature called Other Books which is basically where you can resume a folder of audio files anytime without having to know what file you were in or what time in the file. Useful for ripped audio books from somewhere else or maybe downloaded audio described tv shows or anuything you want to listen to as a series. And also the book port and plex talk aren't getting updates anymore. They have a few nice features like making daisy books and the ability to type out text files in t9 but that's really the only advantage aside from the external stereo mic jack. I still believe it has it's place for the contrivercial fact that it's not a phone. Here me out here. You all know gps is a major battery drain on mobile devices, and most gps apps for both iOS and android don't have the ability to download maps to the device so you're stuck without navigation if your cellular craps out, and as for reading books on it, yeah it works, but pressing buttons is way faster than looking for them. I love my phone, it has it's uses, but I find the trek useful so the phone can take a back seat and be a phone. An example of why using the phone for gps being bad is that in certain parts of Louisiana, my aunt's house being one of them, I have no cell service at all. That'd mean I wouldn't be able to navigate, but sense the trek downloads maps, it's not an issue. Another example would be, what if you went to another country. As an example, when flicking between items pretty much anywhere, it can take between 500 ms to 5 seconds, no joke to actually hear VoiceOver speak after the sound has played, and I've not been able to get any use out of screen recognkition. It allows you to open files on mac without having to install software unlike vmware, you can send files to mac apps, unlike vmware, you get access to your home directory out of the box, there's no noticable latency at least on my machine. Sense it acts like mac apps VoiceOver tells you when a new windows app opens. When you first open it it will actually ask if you want to automatically download and install windows 10 automatically. You don't get that on vmware... Same for other operating systems, if you choose quick install you don't have to deal with windows setup, and it installs way faster anyway. Re: Victor reader Stream sucks after all alright. Here's my two cents. Yeah, the phone es great, but what ever happened to it being a phone? Gps apps on both iOS and android all drain the crap out of the battery. Not only that but they all require data as well as gps to give directions accept with nearby explorer, but the point is it still requires data for most things. Then you have to deal with swiping around for things instead of pressing a button. As for radio on the trek, It's not happening. I was and am involved with beta and quality control with humanware, and back in late 2019 we had to come to a decision about weather it would be worth trying to program the snap draggon that the trek uses to allow the receiver to work as it's not in the instruction set for the CPU and they would have to create custom drivers as well. Anyway, I still believe it's a good device to have. As for devices not getting updates, you don't complain when apple drops support for older devices, it's the same principal. Yes you can get an APK, but Google being stupid made it so that you can't make android install apps that aren't from the play store unless you allow certain apps to do so, and humanware's file manager isn't one of those apps you can allow. You can't just choose an app, I guess Google has some sort of pre-approval process, bloody stupid if you ask me. But as far as doing it on the touch plus, I had to copy the APK to google drive first, using my polaris sense that was what I was using before I upgraded, then open it from there. And honestly sense all licenses for eloquence are considered null and void I would say getting this isn't considered piracy as you can't even buy it anyway. Although in the future it won't be possible to run eloquence because if the roomers are correct Google might be going the way apple went and disable 32 bit apps. It'll be interesting to see what Freedom Scientific does with jaws now that it's not possible for a company to get eloquence. HIMS was ahead of the game by 3 years, as the polaris didn't get eloquence, it has vocalizer which in my opinion sucked because I'm honestly not a fan of realistic voices like that unless I'm trying to make a tts skit, because eloquence and e-speak are light weight, and easy to understand at fast speeds. I don't need human like speech to browse the web. Maybe for reading something like a book or whatever, but the whole point of fast speech isn't to be realistic, it's to be able to keep up with the sighted world. I recently got into reddit, and figured that it would be nice on my BrailleNote touch plus, with the braille keyboard or even better on a computer. The reason why is that I hate typing on a touch screen for long periods of time because even with flicktype it's still slow, and flicktype has it's own issues where in multi line text fields if you have to manually touch type a word because it's not in the dictionary it puts a space after each character and won't let you delete them because it thinks it's the beginning of the document, and also puts crap tons of spaces in between words, like 10 spaces. It's rediculous. So I've been trying reddit apps for android, and evven old reddit, but there's issues. None of the apps bring subreddits up as seperate windows, so I have to scroll ⠏⠁⠌ all my subscribed subs to get to the content, and reddit both new and old is annoyingly slow to use because there are no headings. Also I feel like dystopia was trying to nickel and dime me by making me pay for mail notifications in a subscription, but I undersand that it's single dev, and didn't have to do it. If it was possible I'd pay to get dystopia on android, windows, and mac. That's how annoyed I'm at the rest of the reddit experience. A bar isn't where you go to drink alcohol or something you might run into because you weren't using your cane. A bar is the amount of notes which could be actual notes or hits of a part of a drum kit, say a snare. Now, you don't have to use an entire note, in the sense, go look at pretty much any rock song. Count the number of high hat hits per bar. You'll notice that it's 8. The reason why is because he or she is deviding it into eighth notes. Consequentually a sixteenth note is 1 sixteenth of a note out of a 4/4 bar. So let's think of a bar like a pizza. You only have 1 pizza, you will need to feed 8 people. You must devide it into 8 pieces. Same for eighth notes of a bar. You will play eight notes or hit something on a drum kit eight total times in the bar. That's the simple part. Yes, you can transition between these different devisions in a bar but in this explanation I won't go into that. The bottom note tells you how to devide your bar. So in 4/4 that means quarters of a bar equal your notes. I can already see you asking why then do drummers play 8th notes in a 4/4 bar if that bottom note means they should only be playing quarters. That's because it fits. Just because it says you should play quarters only it's just a suggestion on how to devide up the bar. The top number is more important because you can't get away with playing 5 notes for example in a 4 note per bar situation. Hope this helps. I don't know why they couldn't make it the same key combo for both but meh. Also the a series doesn't allow for navigation in organised manner. On the s series you can sort by vender and bank which you can't do on the a series. You can only navigate by product, type, character, etc, which if you have several libraries or you have a library that has several presets can be very slow to navigate around. So, yeah, there are a few differences with how it works, but the core idea is the same. Also, on the s series you have to use the joy stick to navigate through the product and preset page, unlike the a series where you turn the knobs to navigate, so that can be a little slow, especially if you have lots of libraries installed. The cool thing about GuideConnect is that it doesn't try to shove a screen reader down your throat, and is easy to use.. It has it's own web browser with all the things you'd expect as favorites, facebook, ebay, etc. It also walks you through setting up an internet connection, which for the target audience of these products could be a little overwelming. The idea of this is you use it and over time you sort of learn windows by using the app, then when you're ready you can upgrade to a screen reader like JAWS, NVDA, etc. They don't make it similar to any screen reader aside from the fact that the web browser commands like h for headings exist. It's also the only way to listen to NLS bard books on the pc for some reason. NLS has a software to down,load books but they can't be bothered to make a player. It also has access to NFB newsline, and pretty much everything else from EasyReader. The one thing that's bad about it, the price. It's 795 dollars US. Mind you you don't have to pay for updates like you do with JAWS and Leasey. On iOs, you have to double tap hold, and drag up or down to adjust tempo, and on android, just type. They do offer a watch type device that taps your wrist instead of clicks which is nice for live performance or rehearsals/jam sessions where there is no hearback, or you don't want to wear a headset.
