Why not use something like github instead of... dropbox? Dropbox isnt exactly the optimal VCSURL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=162062#p162062

Re: Interesting muds:thoughts/rants/etc

Ive played both Aard and Disc. Aard isnt so bad if you dont mind the remort, and there are pretty good people on for small banter. It seems more like a mud you play from work where you can quickly close your window. There are a ton of areas and tasks, so if one were to remort you usually can find something new to check out or find. The equipment was pretty easy if you dont mind idling at level x to quest.I also played Disc as well. I loved the theme and read some of the books, but the mud sort of fell short of my expectations. As a lower level player, its a lot of fun, but many of the quests require you to look at a map to find areas of the town you wouldnt be able to find to easily. Ankh Morporkh is at least 500+ rooms, so navigating it isnt at all easy, even if you are the exploring type. Sans the quests though, once you get high enough level your exping opportunities are limited. one of the hardest problem, at least for me was fi
nding places to run while make money, which is insanely hard because there are a lot of cash sinks built into the game; most notably, the cost of leveling is pretty expensive. There were a few ways I found to make money, but the admins removed them (jewlelery making, for example). Youll also find that sometimes random items you can get sometimes and sell are no longer available or sell for way less. For example, I used to find an item that would sell for $20-$30 a pop (which isnt much). The next day it sold for $2. Along with the money though, running higher level areas, even if you can solo them is pretty hard because there are a couple groups of people who will rotate through areas called numberchasers. This makes it especially hard because while you might get a mob or two to yourself, they zoom through the area and wipe it out and you have to wait for a repop, which is when they return. There are very few areas (the casino, the guards in DJB etc), so they&
#039;re pretty populated and hard to actually get unless you can group. Grouping also isnt what it sounds like. While there are people that will group with you, many of the numberchasers are very very selective and will not run with you unless you have really really high skills and can lead (drag them around), etc.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=161794#p161794

Interesting muds:thoughts/rants/etc

Hello all:Ive played a ton of different muds in the past and wanted to kind of run things down for people looking for a new mud to play.I first started out on GWSE and really enjoyed the mud. It actually has to be one of my favorites until it went down. Also ran by the same people were SC (more later).Miriani: I was banned for something totally stupid, for the second time. The first was because another person with my name was attacking their servers and Parias insisted it was me. APart from the bad administration though, Ive found the griefing and attempts at rp pretty aweful. I also tend to like muds with more customization and eventually with miriani you have everything everyone else does and the difference is points and credits.Aard: Not an aweful mud, I didnt really care particularly for the syntax stuff sometimes. Even if you would read room descriptions carefully there was stuff missing that you couldnt figure out without as
king for help. Lashers rants about stabbing people with a fork were a bit sad, as well as the fact that decent equipment costed so much. If you dont mind questing at level 1 for a long time to get good eq and selling tp though, you can easily get a full set of quest eq and enchant eq for all the levels worth getting gear at by your second remort.Alter Aeon: I understand this is pretty popular, but I was driven away by a few factors. First I never really much cared for Dentins attitude toward people. I remember one time I complained about a player breaking a rule (it was starla or one of her alts) and his response was something along the lines of shes to stupid to punish. I liked some of the changes in the mud when I played and felt like others were just a dumbing down. There also seemed to be a lot of politics going on in terms of how you got builder--there were builders like Kroza that just had the char to test out weapons and learn more mechanics. My
other complaint was having to kill something 90 times to make an item load. While it wasnt so bad, I really really wouldve liked to see This mob might load x or something, because otherwise without running in huge groups and happening to see it load you had no clue. On the up side, some of the areas were pretty well designed and I loved the quests. I also liked the classless builds, though again there wasnt much room for customization.Project bob: Perhaps one of the best muds Ive played, it tends to go down sometimes. It is pretty much abandoned at this point, with the admins not really caring to do anything or fix anything. I know it could go down and stay down at any time, but I play because I love the insane amount of customizations available to me.Star Conquest: a bit more in depth from Miriani, the hosts can be a bit harsh sometimes. Some of the enforced RP just gives specific players ammo to rant and gain favor, but I do like
the rules in that they are different and it is much better managed from Miriani. There is also a lot more room for ship customization, if thats what youre into, which I really like. I also do like the RP aspect, though I havent really taken it to the point of buying 90 outfits and going to dinner; theres a point when it feels a bit to much like real life. The players are really cool for the most part, and I love the work the hosts put into creating events. My only real gripe, at least to a point is the zealous attitude they take toward the mention of skype or getting in touch with players out of game over oocsay. While I understand they dont want conglomerations of players on Skype like Miriani had simply because it shatters RP, it would be really nice to be able to talk to some of these people out of games. I feel like most people that care about RP wont go that route anyway.Godwars II:This again is one of the better games Ive
actually played. While KaVir doesnt add to it much and there are a lot of half finished projects, the depth of customization is again awesome. Griefing happens, so if you dont like getting killed I recommend avoiding it.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=161460#p161460
