Re: A wonderful issue with Windows

Hey there,My dad found the reg file before I even saw these posts, coincidentally. Lol.Anyhow, Im taking ownership of these files, but they still say the access to the file is denied, and therefore I cannot delete them. Ill give it a shot later, but as far as I know its still giving me a hastle.Im really hoping this old thing works, its 6 years old with only a gig of RAM, but Im externally booting RAM with my USB flashdrive, so I hope that makes a difference.Best Regards,LukeURL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=144298#p144298

Re: A wonderful issue with Windows

Well that! is strange. Only thing I can suggest is that you get backblaze or any similar backup service get a trial of it and back up your hard drive if you can select not to back up certain files do that then back up the stuff and reformat your hard drive then download a back up again. Or if you cant be selective get bitcasa and Im afraid you have to purchase infinate space for 9 bucks for one month to do a real backup then back up the stuff you know arent system files then do a reformat then get your files back through bitcasa. It seems like those files might be password protected or something if you seriously are not allowed to do it and Im afraid reformatting is the only option if all the suggestions people have posted dont work. You cant even reinstall windows by powering on then holding down space until the bepp, cause really all that does is removes all the stuff you have then places it back on like nothing really happened, but it suppose
dly makes your computer faster.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=144393#p144393

Re: A wonderful issue with Windows

Im going to bet those backup files are old windows files that you can restore if you need something you havent backed up. But, since theyre not your files, go into disk cleanup, let it scan everything, then press the cleanup system files button. This should take care of the problem.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=144160#p144160

Re: A wonderful issue with Windows

Ive done this before. Reassigning ownership is the quickest way, though Im sure you can also nuke it via Linux if you have a live cd set up for that. Safe mode might work, but emphasis on might, and the super hidden super admin account (removed in 7 but still available in Vista) also fails. Im going to assume this is a Dell of some description at this point.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=144191#p144191

Re: A wonderful issue with Windows

Hi,A quick way to take ownership of files is to download a registry entry which puts a take ownership item in the context menu. It works on files and folders. It does all the complicated work for you and leaves you with full priveleges over the file. The system can do nothing to stop you at that point.I dont remember where to find this magic registry entry, but if you google take ownership registry it should easily find it. Just run the .reg file and it installs the take ownership option in the context menu. No rebooting required either. Also, you can uninstall the take ownership entry from the registry with another reg file, which you should find in the same place. Obviously it doesnt kill any rights you have over existing files, but it does remove the take ownership option from the context menu. There is also a way to reassign ownership back to the system, which I would recommend doing after youre done messing with
things, but its not as simple as a registry entry that does it all for you. I bet someone could make one for that, but for now, the way to get ownership back to the system is by reassigning the ownership. The ownership settings are under permissions in the properties dialog. Unfortunately, you have to remember the name of the service that protects system files. I cant remember what it is, but you have to type the name manually because it wont be in the list of owners. Ive only had to do it once, so I cant remember the exact steps, but Im sure instructions on how to do it are out there. I had to use instructions myself when I did it, so I know a bit of searching will guide you.I hope this helps... and good luck with the computer!URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=144240#p144240
