Re: Experiences and descriptions of the different game consoles [[wow]], FamilyMario. Thanks a lot for the descriptions. To clear up any confusion: The reason for I said I can't see the images is not because I'm online, but simply because I'm blind, just as more than 90 procent of the other forum members. Re: [Audiogames-reflector] Experiences and descriptions of the different game consoles
Re: Experiences and descriptions of the different game consoles @SLJ: Yes, a TV is required to play NES and Famicom games. Let me describe the consoles, because when I was offline, I could see the images fine, but when I'm online, I can't see them. Ah well, let's get on to the descriptions, shall we?The Nintendo Entertainment System (or NES for short) is shaped like a rectangular box. It has a cartridge slot on its front, along with the power and reset buttons. This model of the NES is often called the "toaster" by retro gamers like myself. The NES included a chip that prevented unlicensed and pirated games from running. This chip is called the "Lockout Chip." Many developers found ways to circumvent this, though, leading to bad things happening. A second model of the NES, called the NES 2 or the "NES Toploader" was made available in the 90s. This version lacked the lockout chip and the cartridges were inserted from the top.The Family Computer (or Famicom for short) is the Japanese equ ivalent to the NES, in terms of technical specifications, but its design is different. While the NES is a rectangle, the Famicom is lighter in weight, and the controllers are hardwired to the system, which is going to be a problem when you import it from Japan, because you have to pull the system towards you if you want to play far away. They don't call it "Family Computer" for nothing! Unique about this is that it has an eject switch on its front so you can eject the cartridges, rather than pulling them at the cost of pins in the 60 pin port to break. An addon for the Famicom was released called the Famicom Disk System, which uses floppy disks instead of carts. It also has extra sound capabilities, adding either one or eight sound channels to the five NES channels. For comparison, here is the Title theme to Metroid on both systems:Original NES Version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-U3sVX2G3wFamic om Disk System version (note the use of an extra sound channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfj67J527LkHear the differences?URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=151368#p151368 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com http://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector
Re: [Audiogames-reflector] Experiences and descriptions of the different game consoles
Re: Experiences and descriptions of the different game consoles The mortal kombat triligy port for n64 was so so. I would say go for the playstation version, but that is just my view. Same for mk 4, just better sound quality in the playstation version.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=151296#p151296 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com http://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: Experiences and descriptions of the different game consoles FamilyMario: The images aren't links. Should they lead to any descriptions? Or what should I get by clicking on the links if there were any.If you mind doing it, I know that would take a very long time, I would like to know a phicically description of the consoles I've mentioned. Re: [Audiogames-reflector] Experiences and descriptions of the different game consoles
Re: Experiences and descriptions of the different game consoles Well, the Nintendo Entertainment System (Called the Famicom in the Japanese market), is an 8-bit console that has over 740 NES titles, that includes unlicensed and licensed games, not including homebrew games. The controller is a rectangle with the D-Pad on the left, Select and Start in the middle, and B and A on the right. The Famicom is identical to the NES, although in terms of its design, it's different. It's smaller and has a red and white color scheme, where as the NES had a grey and black color scheme. The image right there is a regulart FamicomThat is an NES console.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=151231#p151231< /p> ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com http://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector
