The Dashboard does indeed both use ram and yur internet connection, depending on wat widgets youre running.Press either f12 or choose Dashboard from your apps folder to open it.Then do VO f2 twice to switch between your widgets.To close them, I think its VO command f2 in Snowleopard, and VO command escape in Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks.Regarding the Dock, well, you can just try to remove the icons youre not using, restart your computer and see if it makes a difference. Remember that the curnel is Unix, which means the mac graphical interface doesnt always show whats running in the background. Im not a Unix geek, not at all, so I cant tell you how to check this. But when running a Teamtalk server in Unix and this doesnt show up in Activity monitor just tells me all. Exodus: Regarding VO usi ng ram, yeah thats true. The biggest issue as far as I know in Voiceover is that when it starts to say busy, busy, busy, busy, it sucks ram like crazy! So, go into keyboard preferences and turn off all the access routes to it, and youll be fine. Same for trackpad preferences. The Dock is a red herring; dont worry about it. Ive had nearly a hundred icons without issue, though I always prefer to tidy it up.As for the bugs, nope, they are very real. That some people dont encounter them in daily life is good fortune for them, but that column view bug is very confirmed and very pissing-me-off and very I-want-it-fixed-RIGHT-NOW!!!Chris, in fairness, I think that Mini is due an upgrade. Core Solo is 32-bit. Lion wasnt, and shedding an architecture does have performance benefits for the rest of us. Always has been, always will be. Its not in line with Apples visual design principles so its never going to materialise as a mainstream feature. Sorry to say, but how often are you adding things to the Dock? Whats the issue on pressing VO shift m on the Dock item and choose keep on Dock, just like the sighted users does?I havent seen the issue youre mentioning in Finder, and neither this issue when reading webpages. I do agree that the latest Safari is very, very bad, and it even makes some websites totally unusable. But Ill not go that far to say that people should wait if they wanna buy a Mac.Youre saying youre running a fresh copy of Mavericks. Have you turned off all running crab in the dashboard? Did you know that having lots of appps in your Dock also use up your machines ram as well? Do you remember to close all Finder windows youre not using? And lastly, how many gb of ram do you have?One thing I really like in Mavericks is how VO command spacebar has changed. Safari and VoiceOver havent played nice for a few OS X versions now. Ive been a Mac user since Leopard. I hate the column view bug if it is indeed true that it exists. I much prefer column view over the other two views.The keystroke to add items to the doc is not undocumented. If you have VoiceOver set to speak access keys after menu items (I dont remember how I got mine to do it,) the add to doc menu item says command+shift+t after reading said option. Just wait, folks! Downgrade if you want to. Apple was pushed to go free with this version? Interesting. Lion and Mountain Lion were both only $30 to upgrade. Not too shabby, in my opinion, considering a copy of Windows 7 from Amazon is still $128/$89 f or Home Premium and $179/$99 for Professional. I included the sale price along with Amazons price to illistrate just how awesome Amazon is because you save money! Haha. I am a prime member and will continue to be for as long as Amazon sticks to its level of customer support and prime features stay the same. Ive returned a couple things to them and got my money back in a timely manner and I didnt have to hastle them for it! Mavericks I think its time for we Mac users to be outraged. Im now using Mavericks on a fresh install. I didnt heed the warning in previous releases to avoid upgrading, but this time I dont have a choice. Now that Ive upgraded, Im disappointed. I think we know how much attention goes to iOS when compared to OS X, but Mavericks takes the biscuit.Is it just me, or is Finder now unusable in column view? Try browsing a folder with a large number of files in it using column view, and notice as VoiceOver completely seizes up.And what about list items on web pages? See how they are repeated twice? Worse, try searching to a spot within a list. Ugh!Then, of course, there is the rather large matter of iBooks. My God, what a mess.How about adding items to the dock? Youll find, if youre very unlucky, that drag-and-drop hotke ys dont quite work, and that the (undocumented) Cmd+Shift+T shortcut no longer works. The key turned out to have changed, but the docs havent.I dunno, theres probably more. But Im very unhappy. QA at Apple has been slowly but surely falling as less and less attention is given to their other product line, and it just makes me sad. Im sure itll eventually get fixed, but not before my shiny new MBP has sat on a shelf for the next month or two. Even in the Ios world though I cant say Ive been too pleased with Ios 7, since while I like the siri updates, ability to play/pause from the unlock screen and auto ap updating, the nasty freezing when unlocking my Iphone has been a little irritating.
