Re: just got an Android phone

Hi.As far as i know, there is a big difference between android 4.1 and 4.2 when it comes to accessibility. So if you can get android 4.2 on the device or later versions, youll get nice gestures and better respons from Talkback. I dont think those gestures works in android 4.1, unless you update talkback to the latest version.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=158259#p158259

Re: just got an Android phone

You should be able to use nova launcher to get around touchwiz. But theres instructions all over the web on how to root a device. Theres a few mods I can think of; namely Cyanogen, Paranoid Android, A O S P, plus a few more that I cant think of right now.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=158263#p158263

Re: just got an Android phone

Hi James. as for the rom thing that depends on a number of factors. 1. if using rom manager to install roms, you need to have a flashable backup of your current rom. there is no clockwork backup for the device I have, samsung galaxy tab 3 7 inch, smt210r with android 4.1.2. 2. you need to find instructions about rooting that particular device. 3. You need to actually find a rom that is compatible with the device in question. I did research on syanogen and android open keng project, a o k p. both are incompatible with that device. are there any vanilla roms of at least 4.3 that are pretty close to vanilla android, for the samsung galaxy tab 3 7 inch? thanksURL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=158302#p158302

Re: just got an Android phone

Hi Wanderer. I think I can provide some help here. Though I havent used a tmobile lg whatever I can tell it does have some accessibility issues. However, I wouldve recommended you buy the google nexus 5 phone, it being vanilla android without any custom overlay. For example, my samsung galaxy tab, although android, has the rediculously stupid touchwhiz garbage that destroys a lot of te accessibility. For one, the touchwhiz home has an unlabeled button or two and most of the top of the screen is covered by an annoyg weather wigit. Plus the keyboard is just plain inaccessible. If you hold the keyboard for even a second and dont release in time, it will display a popup forcing you to type in a bunch of simbols ruining the whole thing. Sure, theres fleksy, but it requires you to turn off talkback so kind of defeats the purpose a bit. So you want something that is stock android as you can get. I only recommend the google nexus devices. As for roms, I dont
know about anything about roms for that device. Youd first need to find a rom for your device, find out how to root it, unlock the bootloader, and finally successfully flash the rom in question. If you are a nooby at this Id just suggest returning/selling your phone and geting a nexus 5 as some companies like scamsung and lg will never release something stock android.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=158235#p158235

[Audiogames-reflector] just got an Android phone

just got an Android phone

So, the other day I got the lg Lucid 2 running Android 4.1. So far I havent had much luck with using it, even though talkback is installed and explore by touch is enabled. I can do the finger-slide thing, but whenever Im over a button or icon talkback says image (number) unlabeled, and it gets annoying very fast. Ive also heard youre supposed to be able to scroll through lists and such using 2-finger flicks, however this doesnt seem to work much for me. So 1), coming from iOS, are there any similar gestures I could use, at least until Ive got a better grasp of the interface, 2) any other tips for getting started with Android, and 3) how does the touch keyboard work and is it different from iOS? Also, when the phone was on the initial setup screen I was unable to get talkback started by doing the rectangle gesture, so a sighted person downloaded it; unless that was an update Im assuming its not preinstalled on the phone. I
s there any way I would be able to set up the phone from a restore without sighted assistance? Im already looking into custom roms, rooting and the like, I suppose I could just install the apk file from a computer, assuming I have access to one. Does Cyanogenmod come with talkback preinstalled? Sorry if these are stupid questions, but Id like to get going with this phone as soon as possible and dont have a lot of time this week or next to mess around with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=158077#p158077

Re: just got an Android phone

Ive heard that older LG phones had some accessibility hiccups. They have since gotten better with this (The LG G2 has a tripple-click home feature added to it), but with older devices I remember hearing that people had issues with the soft buttons being unlabelled, ditto for the status bar. Androids openness is a blessing and a curse, if done right, a custom overlay can really be quite good, but if not, well, there you go. LG did figure it out later, but in your case going the custom root would probably improve things. Talkback is not installed in cyanogenmod directly. But then, neither are all the google apps like the Play store. But, not do worry as you will install them along with CM, and Talkback is included there. Keep in mind that rooting and flashing a new rom is going to void your warrantee. If you decide to stick to your stock firmware, you can improve your experience by installing a few things. First, make sure youre running the latest version of Talkba
ck. Sign i to a google account, then open the play store, and go to the my apps section and install any updates. The keyboard works just like on iOS. That is, if LG didnt break it. If they did, you can install another keyboard (google released theirs on the play store so you can look for that). There are also a few other good keyboard, like Nuances swipe which IMO gives a slightly better experience but youll need to pay for it. Also if the Homescreen is giving you issues, you can also replace it. Nova Launcher and Apex are the most popular with blind users. Id also install firefox, preferably the beta, for web browsing.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=158084#p158084

Ive also heard some bad stuff about the older lg phones, this one was released in April of this year though so hopefully wont suffer from it. As for building a custom rom, any tips to get started?URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=158097#p158097
