Re: Android emulator

short answer get a cheep android tablet. long answer I would not recomend anyone trying to use an emulator specially if you are going to be doing a lot with it. You are going to be better off getting a real device that does work with touch based apps.

Re: Android emulator

I don't think there are any "accessible" android emulators perse, but that may partially be due to the fact they don't come with the Android Accessibility Suite pre-installed, which could be due to copyright issues. What you'd need to do is download your emulator of choice, then load in the Accessibility Suite APK file manually, you can find it [here], among other places.

Bluestacks never was and never will be accessible with NVDA, for anybody. The way you could previously use it is by installing Talkback, then enabling it from the emulator, but this is no longer easy, if possible at all.

Ok, with sighted help I managed to download and install the apps I planned, but they turned out to be just as totally unaccessible to me as the emulator itself. The apps themselves work perfectly on Bluestacks, but only for sighted ones, I cannot even perform a single action with them, just like how I couldn't with Bluestacks either. So now I suggest we try 2 things:1.If Bluestacks is accessible for you others with nvda and windows 10, (on desktop PC), let's try to determine, why it is totally unaccessible to me?2.If it became unaccessible to you others too, please suggest me some different, guaranteed accessible android emulator instead.

Re: a universal android emulator for PC?

Yeah, nevermind  my previous comments. Today I wanted to play around with Bluestacks again, and even what was possible with OCR is now completely broken. Well, not broken, but 10 times harder to do. However, even sighted people are complaining about it, as the entire settings app has apparently been removed so it is now impossible to configure things, including enabling Talkback. They are now primarily focused on running games and nothing else. The only thing about Bluestacks I can recommend is running an old version that isn't broken, though  you will be stuck on Android 5, so probably a virtual machine is the best option nowadays.

No, whenever I visit the store, regardless if I start my browser or Bluestacks 1st, it keeps saying how I have no device added, so now I must manually add some virtual device somehow it seems...Or is there a file in the Bluestacks directory for that?As if I remember I managed to do this in the past, and did add some Samsung or Nokia type virtual smart phone, but I cannot remember how I did it, was quite a long time ago...Edit:I managed to google out, how I am supposed to find the settings, and there some device profile option, there I can add a virtual device, the only problem is Bluestacks doesn't seem to be NVDA accessible at all, after it loads in, all I can do is trying to exit it with alt+f4, that is the only case I can hear the options "close" or "return" to Bluestacks, closing it won't work at all btw, I have to restart my whole system in order to get rid of the running emulator.Hell, I even tried to blindly move my mouse and click on some options I can hear, but even then they simply won't open, at all.I remember this was the case earlier too, (although I somehow managed to add a virtual device back then), so I actually wonder why you guys claim Bluestacks to be screen reader, especially NVDA accessible. Can it be my Windows 10 system causing this accessibility problem?

There might be, but I never did it that way. You don't need to run the Google play website in your browser, rather the play store app in the emulator itself. I found it pointless to do so from my browser since I'm on the PC anyway, it's a lot more useful when you do that for a real device.

Re: a universal android emulator for PC?

Well, you can enable Talkback fully using OCR, I did that a few months ago. You really should not need volume keys to toggle Talkback on an emulator, I don't see a good  usecase for that. If you are thinking of self voicing audiogames, you anyway can't play them since you don't have any touch screen gestures and rely on keyboard commands.

Yeah, but in terms of accessibility, you'll need sighted assistance to install and enable TB,so... Couple that with the fact that most keys are intercepted by BlueStacks kinda makes things a bit annoying to navigate. Also, good luck binding volume keys so you can quickly toggle TB.

Depends. What you may need to do is download and install the [android accessibility suite] in the emulator, as they may not come with it by default.

Re: it is possible to use tuchpad in android emulator?

Nope. Sorry. Touchpad emulation is near nonexistent with virtual machines. Even if you have a multitouch surface for your computer, i.e you can use touch gestures on windows 10. The only way you could is if there were a hyper-v-like equivalent for Android so that no mediator hardware drivers were needed and it could take advantage of raw resources. Spoiler Alert: this will never happen on any x86-based hardware. An arm-based pc would be able to duel boot arm-based Android and Windows, but Windows10Arm is nowhere near being an x86 replacement. Lol, good luck trying to convert JAWS's codebase to be arm-compatible, that's gonna be a wild ride.

@ashleygrobler04 Any games requiring touchscreen gestures will absolutely not work. Sorry, but not sorry. Newer budget Android phones do have a bit more to offer, so why not have a look at those. Even Feer won't work because it requires touchscreen gestures for the menu. An Android emulator has its uses for just about everything else though, so instead of fiddling with Bluestacks, why not download thisout of the box Android 9 virtual machine with Talkback running

Hi Diego.I don't think that is possible. I don't know too much about android studio, but I tried it out once, and although I didn't use it, it did have a built-in emulator. What exactly do you mean it doesn't work on your pc? You should be able to navigate to it and open it with your screen reader, then go to settings and activate talkback. It would help if you were a little more specific.

accessible android emulator?

accessible android emulator?

Hi, I asked this question in another topic but I want to ask it again because I didn't get any responses there. Is there an accessible android emulator that I can use that has talkback preconfigured? I looked at an older topic from march 2-13 where they had a link to an accessible android emulator with talkback preconfigured, because people were trying to play Droid flip. I followed the link but the site had apparently been taken down. Also, do I need any extra software for the emulator to work? A lot of people mentioned virtual box. If there is software I ened, I would also like to know.
