@dardar, Well, I didn't exactly mean that you should rip the navigation right out of AppleVis, I just think it's useful, and I like it. Of course I am only one person, and that was only a suggestion. Feel free to do whatever you want with it. Regard it, disregard it, expand on it.

Re: Announcing: Now open for the public, The Software Archive

Hello! So I wanted to address the things brought up here, as they're very good points!@19 I wanted to grab yours first, because it was troubling me. I was like, "Garage band. I definitely, definitely remember that one being there, and yet I also remember it not being there." It's not, you're right. And I think I know why. During development stage, I executed a command in mysql that was intending to delete what I thought! was a duplicate category. It was, kind of. I think, though, that GB and L got lumped into the same category as Audacity and GoldWave, but with slightly different capitalisation. In that regard, they got deleted, rather than what I thought was a duplicate.I'll see if I can hunt out the submission emails for these and hopefully get them re-added as soon as I can. Certainly nothing personal!@17 So again, you raise some great points:•User ratings: I had originally penned this in and even went so far as allowing users to be able to leave reviews for products and things like that. Hell, originally I also penned in an entire platform around it, but then I came to a conclusion that took me a week to swallow. Rome wasn't built in a day. Maybe a month, sure, but not a day. So yes, user ratings are planned for the future, just not yet. Lets get the thing off the ground first. Get it well known, get people submitting to it, coming to it  and interested, then we can expand features •Separate instructions. My intention was to include this in the description section. In the submission form it hasw a field called "Additional information." where users can link to tutorials and such and for some programs, like Audacity, links are included. I want to make it better handle those sorts of links and I think once more pop up, I definitely will do so. It's a case with that one, demand over quantity. right now there are ,aybe 3 software with tutorials. In the future when, or if, more arise, I'll definitely expand the support base for it •NVDA's cursor in accessibility ratings: See, I had trouble with this myself. Being a frequent user of puTTY and the command line, using the virtual cursor for me is like using the normal cursor, it's just bread and butter! But that is not actually the case for others. My girlfriend, for instance, beautiful and amazing as she is, hates the virtual cursor with a passion. Fair Enough!•Separate platforms for separate accessibility. Interesting suggestion though here you face the problem of giving too much information. Quantity and quality, you know?@18You mention tabs and such like on AppleVis and certainly I think the archive could definitely benefit from a browse by OS section in the quick links. Pretty good idea!I just wanted to raise a small red flag, just a small one! Regarding the word "like". I really, really dislike, disapprove of I guess, idea steeling, even in the vaguest form. Anyone who plays cosmic Rage will know I have a reptuation for ripping out "overhaul!" something because somebody mentioned somewhere oh hey... This is like hand mining on that other mud.To that end while I admit they serve similar purposes in so far as croniling software, I'm trying to keep there interfaces as apart from each other as I can, while also attempting to try new grounds for accessibility. If everyone tried the same thing, after all, innovation would never happen!I hope these answered your questions, and there are definitely some great ideas for both long and short term changes.Primarily of course the goal for now is to get the word out, attract people to what is still a very new Archive and what not.but I see potential and I love it!

Re: Announcing: Now open for the public, The Software Archive

@defender, Yeah a section for accessibility and usage would be useful. A community rating system like Citra's community game rating system or AppleVises I think would also be useful. Perhaps each program should have it's own entry, but you would just choose what OS you'd like to view, perhaps from tabs at the top?I also recommended a feature for specifying accessibility and details for different update channels, such as canary, beta, public alpha ETC, just to put that out there.

Re: Announcing: Now open for the public, The Software Archive

@dardarThis is pretty cool, but I would really like to see a couple things added. If their could be a section where the submitter or a mod could put some extra instructions on how exactly to use the program effectively that would be helpful.A user rating system separate from the author rating system, where each vote has the date of entry next to it may also help as programs can change over time and people's experiences may be different from the submitter's.A bit of clarification on virtual cursor use in the ratings might be nice as well.  In NVDA for instance, I definitely wouldn't consider a program where I sometimes had to quickly use NVDA's review cursor to see extra info on a control to be a problem...  But maybe I'm in the minority? Also, I worry about how multiple platforms are listed for each program, but accessibility on those platforms may be unknown, or change separately from others.  It makes me wonder if having a separate listing for each OS even if programs are repeated would be good, or some kind of (verified to work with OS as of date) item in the entry would be good.

@DARDAR, perhaps instead of having the categories on seperate pages, when you click the link, example clocks, it expands the category, so you won't have to constantly be sifting and searching to find the programme you want to find lol
