Re: Any open world game that is fully or partially playable?

Seal,You have a good ear; the folks from Swamp were kind enough to offer up their footstep library way back when we started this project, as well as a couple of other UI sounds like the radar bleep we're currently using. I don't know that we're recycling any other sounds, offhand. As for first-person vs. top-down for RPGs, I'm sure it's a matter of personal taste. What we like about the first-person perspective is that it allows you to listen to the world from the player's perspective, making ambient sounds (and the game overall) far more immersive. Since the idea of an RPG is to step into a character's shoes (to "play their role", so to speak) we feel like the immersiveness of first-person sound is the best way to handle this. But that's just our take. What is it about top-down RPGs that you find preferable?

Re: Any open world game that is fully or partially playable?

Well, I want to see something like castlevania or medroidvania style of games like Shadow complex for example. What about the Out of sight's title? hmm, hard to tell after hearing a exploration demo. The sounds from there I can recognise from many other places (Swamp for example regarding footsteps) rpg in form of FPS? I'm more in to the style of top down perspective than FPS if talking about RPG games.Anyway, for now japanese games are closest to perfection and noone achieved that. Shadow line with the half-open world have some medroidvania elements, BK series with ton of content to unlock, hidden things and really balanced mechanics (BK3)There aren't any open world video games. Reason? hard to see many things you need to interact with to progress.

Re: Any open world game that is fully or partially playable?

The devil may cry games are partially playable except for dmc 1 and 2. I've only tried dmc 3 and i've got to level 4 in the game. The first and the second level is very straight forward, you just have to kill the enemies in that level then it's done. On the third level, the first part is a battle, then the real exploration starts. In this part, you have to walk around and break some stuff. It's quite hard but eventually you will get on to another battle. Then, you have to explore again, break some stuff, and then you will fight with the first boss. The exploration mode in level is a bit tricky, so some patience are required. On the fourth level, the game starts to become unplayable. For dmc 4, it's only level 1 and level 2 that are playable. In the first level, you have a rival battle with the new character called nero. In the second level, you will fight an enemy and then it's starting to become unplayable. But the good thing in dmc 4 is th
e bloody palace mode.In this mode, you can choose your favorite character and in this mode you will fight against lots of enemies. There is one more devil may cry title called dmc: devil may cry, but i'm not sure how playable it is.

Re: Any open world game that is fully or partially playable?

I didn't reply to this topic sinse I wasn't exactly sure that by "open world" you didn't mean a mainstream game series which I wasn't familiar with, as opposed to a game that happened to have a fully open world with which you can interact. Survive the wild would fall into this category, also to some extent would Deathmatch project alpha, however if your really looking for something with that "explore, go and poke things, interact" type of ethos then muds are your best bet I think, particularly those muds with an emphasis on their environment setting and skills like Fluxworld, Avalon, Clok or discworld,  indeed discworld was so open I found it literally impossible to know where to start and just wound up wandering aroun the gigantic city wondering where to go or what to do.

I was wondering what he meant by open world too.  Muds can definitely be - Alter Aeon allows you to go anywhere you want, but if you're not powerful enough some places can be a death trap.

Re: Any open world game that is fully or partially playable?

At the risk of shamelessly plugging myself, Out of Sight Games' first title, slated for release in mid 2016, is an open world title, technically. It's broken up into multiple maps, but this is true of most mainstream open-world games as well. But if you're looking for something with non-linear exploration capabilities where you can just roam around a predefined world and discover what there may be to discover, then yeah, it fits the bill.

Re: Any open world game that is fully or partially playable?

Oh how I wish the Batman series of games, Arkham Asylum, and Arkham City were accessible. I played them before I lost my vision, they were open world in that you could go where ever you wanted to, for exploring, finding tokens, and solving puzzles. But for the game's story to progress you don't get very far unless you achieve the next goal the script needs. But still, the freedom to approach any puzzle or how you retrieve a token or solve a puzzle is up to you. Those games were tons of fun. They were some of the very few games that I played several times and planned to play again. Because of the freedom you had in those games, no two games played the same, that gave them replay value, even if you already knew how to solve the puzzles or where all the tokens were.

Re: Any open world game that is fully or partially playable?

have anyone tried a game called brutal legend? it's an open world game, combined with heavy metal stuff.it's a hack and slash, much like the devil may cry games. in the game, your weapon will be an axe and a guitar, which will make tones when you do a combo.

What's your definition of "open world"? I just know different people mean different things when they call a game open-world, so I want to understand more clearly what you mean before answering.
