I would re try that, and if it still doesn't work, from the menu bar choose update downlload engine, which will update Youtube DL to the latest version which often fixes download errors. No ads, works using Youtube DL but has a GUI for those not willing to learn it, as well as the ability to update Youtube DL from the program which is very important. It can convert to most formats, and works on Windows, Mac and Linux. You should be able to download playlists and channels as well, but just like is the case with Youtube DL for me too, sometimes this hangs and isn't so stable, but for smaller playlists or single video downloads it should be absolutely fine.
