They might actually believe the things they say, even if they don't make any sense or are obviously untrue.It's also possible that we're talking about individuals, rather than a whole clique.But, point is, you're close enough for them to target, and an acceptable target by their own internalized social rules. Truth and fairness takes a backseat to that, for way more people than I ever want to meet.Alternatively: countersignalling. If you said stupid untrue insults right back at them, they would take it a sign that you are actually trying to be friends, because apparently there are people who never got out of the "beating people up means you like them" mentality. The trouble with these sorts is that they seem to genuinely fail to understand that they can poss ibly go too far, and will get offended if you try to defend yourself rather than play the game.But, personally, if they're that ridiculous, better to treat them as though they are the first group. If they're innocent-and-ignorant, they will either learn or find themselves kicked out of polite society. Re: Appology and other things @Nocturnus, despite the fact that I hold administrator status on this forum, and obviously spend a significant amount of time on here, I still get that feeling of disconnection myself. This Especially happens with issues like this one Ghostrider describes sinse they tend to occur as he said among a small subgroup of people over skype and on other places and then bleed onto the forum.This sense of being external to things does actually help as a moderator. @Ghostrider, Steve is correct here. Trolls say anything to get on your whick, no different to some immature kid in the playground saying "your mum has a big bottom" or something similarly infantile, such things just show the intelligence (or rather distinct lack there of), of the people involved. One question however. If this insulting business did not occur on the forum, why are you leaving the forum? I can assure you such insults if they occurred here would definitely not be aloud and you could rep ort them, whether by pm or by post, so even if the person who said such is still here, she/he couldn't do such again. Also, there are manifestly a couple of hundred regular posters here, so this forum isn't just the domain of said moron. As I said previously, leave if you wish and feel free to do so, just make sure your doing so for the right reasons and with the right information, sinse disturbing your life and getting you to stop frequenting places on the internet is exactly what those sorts of trolls want. As I see it, he's become something of an icon in the development community as of late, collaborating with Ultrocity audio. Other people who are not in the audiogames community have partook in saying things to me too. I received a skype message from someone that read, "Did you buy an engagement ring for your idiot girlfriend Erowyn?" For one, that isn't mature or kind in any circumstance whatsoever. Secondly, I am very defensive of her. I'm keeping my status as her hero because in many ways she's saved me. What I never could quite figure out is why can't they give me a good luck wish, a pat on the back and well wishes? Nope, they have to ridicule me, call me names, and take shots at my baby girl. Appology and other things Recently people have been expressing disagreement with my decision to leave the blind community, others have called me arrogant, others have taken shots at my baby girl. I'm sorry if I've hurt you in any way but I am not changing my decision. In other news if I come on here acting like a huge asshole and writing snippy comments at you, don't take it personal. I probably won't be on much anyway if at all. But I'm very scared of losing Erowyn and if I do I'm telling you now it's not something I'm going to get over.
