*Grasps Lua in one hand, Python in another, and slams them together, creating Luathon's Perpendicularity!*I couldn't resist. That's not even how that works, lol. Anyways, yeah this person is very computer illiterate, and I haven't really done the "convert Mush-Z into regular talking Mush-client" thing, so I'm uncomfortable with trying to walk them through it. Gosh maybe I should just have them play through freaking Telnet or something. They just need a simple, free MUD client that actually works well for what it does and is accessible, and doesn't lag like crazy and depend on old eSpeak.

Re: AxMud, a new Mud client with accessibility features

VIP is complete gross in my opinion. I started playing muds with it but right after I got used to mushclient I left VIP right away. And the free version you cant play more than 120 minutes before you get to  restart.  and and it's scripting language is complete disaster in my opinion. While I grasped lua  very quickly and easily

Re: AxMud, a new Mud client with accessibility features

VIP has this really stupid bug, I'm not going to say what it is here for obvious reasons, but those of you who've used it will know what I'm talking about. Basically, it takes a grand total of 0 effort to bypass the trial without paying, and I'd imagine that's what most people still using the thing are doing. I still do use it for miriani, but miriani is really the only mud I play, and even that I'm very rapidly drifting away from.

get mushz, problem solved. You just remove altar from the startup worlds and add globalize four plugins and you're golden. It's cake.

Re: AxMud, a new Mud client with accessibility features

Yeah, I mean I agree, but I have this person trying to bang their head against it and it's just s painful to watch! But Mush-client requires all kinds of pluggins, and VIP Mud is $30 or so if you don't want to restart every hour or so, you know. It'd just be good for a basic Mud client, I guess. I mean, I don't know what the author is looking for, but yeah.

Re: AxMud, a new Mud client with accessibility features

Looking at the documentation this client does support triggers, aliases, keys, and scripting, there is definitely a sound system but I have no idea how sophisticated it is. It is probably just letting you play sounds in the center of the field, no special audio features. The client does support many common mud protocols, including mxp/pueblo, msdp, mssp, and gmcp. There's two scripting types, ax basic scripting which is this pretty high level internal thing, and then tasks, which is a lower level thing where you can actually mess with the interface and add windows and things. The sad thing about the task language is that you have to use perl, which is one of the most hated languages out there because it's so hard to read. Also, intentional lack of support for jaws and NVDA when the dev can easily use something like tolk doesn't make any sense to me. Overall I'm giving this one a pass, though cross platform is nice if you actually do manage to figure out a way to make a soundpack, they can all use the same one.

Re: AxMud, a new Mud client with accessibility features

Took a look at the guide and I feel bad that so much work is being put into these kinds of projects. Reminds me of the effort triad city put into tts for there own browser client.Mush Client and (not a fan of) VIP can't really be beat, just the ability to review text makes a huge difference. Also, with NVDA everyone can afford a screen-reader so, hard to imagine using something like Axmud to replace Mush. This is only my opinion, cause not everyone thinks or understands the same way.I do hope that this benefits someone so that the work and effort isn't wasted.

Is it even still being supported? The most recent release is v1.2.041, released on 31 July, 2019.  Even mushclient isn't being supported I think but it has more functionality

Re: AxMud, a new Mud client with accessibility features

It would have to do a hell of a lot to get me to switch to it. First of all, while I don't mind a terminal client, it's going to have to give me the same functionality that MC does; which, by the way, is a lot. It'll have to have trigger and alias support and scripting as well as some sort of internal audio subsystem or a way to roll your own into it.Basically, the chances that I would use this are very low.

AxMud, a new Mud client with accessibility features

Hi all. Has anyone heard of Axmud? You can find it at:https://axmud.sourceforge.io/And documentation for blind users at:https://axmud.sourceforge.io/docs/guide/ch16.htmlAnd a topic I created where I discuss some... annoying things about it here:https://axmud.sourceforge.io/forum/view … =386Basically, it comes with eSpeak, can use five other speech engines, please read manual, I don't know anything about it because launching a game is painful in it right now because of TTS lag and process spawning and such. But, it does come with sounds, so maybe sound packs are already somewhat configured in the games. Hopefully. It could be a great solution, when bugs and problems are fixed, for those who want one place to go for Muds, instead of having different instances of Mush-client hanging around, and needing VIP Mud for a great Cosmic Rage experience because we just have to hold on to old stuff, and that kind of thing. Commands are a bit different, and remind me a bit of Tintin++, but are doable. But you do have to read a manual, so be very aware of that. I don't consider this completely ready for use by newbies to Muds and the command line, but I often underestimate people so maybe y'all will prove me wrong and use it perfectly fine and it'll be a hit like Retroarch has been.
