Re: Battery life on an MBP with Bootcamp

Also, some tools like Visual Studio work better with fast SSD, a good amount of ram, and fast processor. I believe Mac book air uses mobile version of intell's processors. (I could be wrong on this though).

Re: Battery life on an MBP with Bootcamp

complex sessions in logic or ProTools will to regularly push my ram usage up over the 10 GB mark. The MacBook pros aren't just for fancy graphics things. Start making heavy use of instruments and plugins and you really start to apreciate the i7 and 16 GB of ram, especially with the iditional overhead of VoiceOver

Re: Battery life on an MBP with Bootcamp

I always thought it was simply Windows having less efficient power management. I've got a MacBook Air and my battery life is noticably decreased when I BootCamp. That's stupid that Apple's drivers only let you use the higher performance GPU in the MacBook Pro. Then again, why on earth do you need a MacBook Pro if you're blind? Why do you need anything greater than 8 GB of RAM? I seriously want to know. I've been using an AIr for the last 3 years and it works fine for my needs. The only reason I'd suggest a MacBook Pro or anything more powerful would be for graphic intensive tasks which you're not likely to be doing as a blind person. Then again, I could be wrong. Feel free to inform/correct me.

Re: Battery life on an MBP with Bootcamp

just a question: the macbook has a keyboard backlite, are you sure it's off?in windows, it has the tendancy to come after reboots I think, so hit f5 a couple of times to turn it off, that might increase your battery life massively.

Re: Battery life on an MBP with Bootcamp

in most cases this is down to graphics switching. Under Mac OS, the integrated HD graphics or irus  graphics is exposed for use as well as the discrete chip. Mac OS will use integrated graphics as much as possible for decreased heat and power usage, only switching to the discrete graphics if a program like logic pro requests it. Apple does this in the background, not notifying you and as a result you think mac OS equals better battery life. Under windows, however, It's a different story. Apple chooses not to expose the integrated graphics to bootcamped operating systems. The result? windows is forced onto discrete graphics the entire time, completely decimating batterylife and generating a ton of heat in the process. To further add to things,, you can't control the fans in windows and apple's default fan curve is terrible, only really kicking the fans into gear when temps inside get up to the 80 C mark. Then you've got the out of date graphics drivers, the
terrible trackpad drivers and the clunky software updater that attempts to hoist iTunes on you at every turn. Are apple really that insecure that they have to hobble other operating systems on their hardware just to make theirs look superior?

Re: Battery life on an MBP with Bootcamp

I usually get about 5 or 6 hours out of my mbp pro early 2015, and I tend to leave lo'ts of stuff open like my browser and lots of word documents. I currently have 20 tabs open on it.

Re: Battery life on an MBP with Bootcamp

With my Early 2013 15-inch macbook Pro I also get about 4 hours on Windows. But that's if I'm not doing anything. Usually, it's more like 2 and a half to 3 hours. It's really obvious that Windows is terrible at power managing the mac, as on Mac OS I usually get around 5 hours which I managed to stretch to 7 or even 8 if I had few apps open or turned off Wi-Fi. That's in addition to the fact that the computer generates a lot more heat while in Windows and the CPU usage seems to jump way up if I leave it unattended for a few minutes.

Re: Battery life on an MBP with Bootcamp

I've read that those Macs with both an integrated and a dedicated graphics card are unable to switch between the two automatically in bootcamped Windows and are always using the dedicated one, so that might be one reason for getting lower battery life in Windows than in Mac OS if your computer does in deed have two graphics cards. Also, have you tried fiddling around with your power management schemes in Windows? That might also possibly help you get a couple more hours out of your battery. Just an idea.Lukas

Re: Battery life on an MBP with Bootcamp

Hello there.Mine is a I5 early 2015 and 3.5 to 4 hours seems about what I manage to get on it,as well.I guess we have certain settings on/off that we shouldn't have on and hence are getting such low battery life or perhaps it is how it is and those 8 9 hours are just meh.grryf

Battery life on an MBP with Bootcamp

Hi all,I'm sure I've thoroughly annoyed you all with my questions concerning Macs, but I'm wondering if anybody has experience running Windows 10 on bootcamp.  In terms of battery life, how much juice do you get?  I usually get 3-4 hours depending on what I'm doing.  I have an MBPR late-2015.  I'm just curious if this is normal for this machine to only get this much battery, or if I should be getting more.  I read somewhere that someone was getting 8-9 hours doing graphic design with the screen brightness at 40%.  I have mine set down to 0%, battery saver on, and running only small apps.Any feedback would be cool.Luke
