Re: BrailleSense Polaris Vs. BrailleNoteTouch

Hi. Sorry for rebringing up this topic, but now that i got a brailesense polaris i can say some more stuff.I read mainly through post1. In this post the main point where problems with text editing and batteries, as well as some other smaller problems. Sinze i only got the thing 1 day, i can't say so much to the battery. But i am charging the thing right now and it charges at an avarage speed of for an example a new smartphone you buy for me. I haven't played with the spellchecker so much, but when i did it never did that scrambling thing for me. The only thing i have as well is the ling thingy sometimes. I mean the one with it moving the last word over to the next line. How ever it happened to me only once. I am not saying that your problems are totaly undue. I don't have these simply. Maybe they have been ixed with a firmware update or something like that. I only have 2 small problem, from which one isn't really that big of a problem and the other one relats to email which i don#t use so frequent. The first is that sometimes the braille display is not recognizing the letter @. This happens only in some aplications. It then for an example happens that i write @ and § or something comes out. The other thing is that it doesn't have aol mail in it's list.

I didn't read through the full topic, but here's a general thing about the battery problem that @1 mentioned.I had a problem that sounded the like this on an old iphone. It happened after i tried to make it load faster by using a foreighn powersuply to many times. But even if yo don't do that, my plextalk also has that problem. I think it's a battery draining problem. I wil get a polaris on 08.01.2020 and then i will see more.

Re: BrailleSense Polaris Vs. BrailleNoteTouch

There are some issues in here that do look a little absurd, but I'm not saying they are false. I'd like to point out to the battery whiners though, you're not putting your Polaris into a deep sleep, it helps with battery drainage. Locking your device only puts it in standby, so its still on, and it is still working. Open Polaris Settings.Select Polaris Global Options.Scroll down until you find Power WButton Operation. Press the SPACE key until you hear deep sleep, then press ENTER to save the changes. Now, when you press the power button, the device will put itself to sleep, and won't recieve any notifications or anything until it is awakened. Plus, it won't drain battery, because Internet has been disconnected, and the device is not active.I'd also like to point out that HIMS has confirmed an update is on its way set for January of 2020, so be expecting it.

honestly, half the issues people seem to have with the polaris I have never experienced. The battery seems to last quite a while for me, especially if I turn bluetooth and wifi off when i'm not using them. I've also had the polaris sitting for more than a day with full battery and it hasn't dropped that much. What I do is turn bluetooth and wifi off before I go to bed and only turn it on when I want to use it. Keep in mind that the polaris is like an Iphone or any other android phone in that it has to constantly search for notifications. That in and of itself can cause your battery to drain.

Re: BrailleSense Polaris Vs. BrailleNoteTouch

Hi guys. So, i purchased the polaris back in october 2017, and it worked fine. Then I started to notice that the bugs weren't beeing addressed in a timely manner.I was told on multiple occasions that Hims has quite a reputation for releasing the most broken software on the market, and then making a notetaker that would rival even the most sophisticated computers in terms of there productivity.I heard tail of an old notetaker called the U2, I heard how broken it was at launch and how Hims had literally raised it back from the dead like some twisted notetaker necromancer.I thaught that the polaris would be getting the same treatment as the others, but I havn't seen much change. We can't even use youtube on it anymore.Don't even get me started on the old android version that we're stuck with. I know that this was beeing addressed a while ago, but the content of the updates thus far has been nothing but small fixes or things that should have been included from before the devices inception. Also, I don't know if its just me, but doesn't the software feel like its in early beta or late alfa?Sorry for the rant.

Or, in emsil, i have to leave a message and go back again to make it allow me to read the message. I heard a roomer that there's supposed to be a big update coming for the polaris by either the end of 2019 or some time in early 2020. And by the way, to the person who said there's no eloquence, update your polaris. Eloquence isn't there by default but sense you can now use other voices than the default polaris vocalizer, which you still can't use as regular tts, you can use any android tts you want.

Re: BrailleSense Polaris Vs. BrailleNoteTouch

Sorry for bringing this topic back, but here comes my list of Polaris issues. I've never used the Touch, but I've used the Apex sometimes and I think it's much better than the Polaris. The U 2, which came before the Polaris, was great. It never deleted any documents, and the Polaris deleted a lot.Open Notepad on the Polaris, and paste this part of a book that I'm working on in:Sparky: incorrect, you said we're playing Football Americano. Author: Football and Football Americano are the same game. Sparky: I pray to Jeremy Nasuti, that you'll stop messing with the original Football. Author: Sparky, you can't pray to him and have the prayers work because you're not a Nasutist and have never been one. Sparky: I just found diamonds, and it felt so good, Author: no! Minecraft! Aloud! During! Football! Sparky: oh, you don't like Minecraft? Author: since Trevor Pine likes Minecraft, I hate it. Also, I've never liked Minecraft anyway so that's that. Sparky, go get the ball. Now, add something to it and save the document. You'll notice that now, the document contains less text than it had before and it's randomly chosen what gets deleted. If you write 2 words, you lose 5 words. If you write 4 words, you lose 13 words and so on.That's how the book went from 15 chapters down to half a chapter. If this Polaris didn't belong to Perkins, it would either be on Amazon for 2 pennies or broken. The battery issue mentioned in post 1 is also there, but worse. If it's at 100 percent and you don't use it for 1 day, and goes down to "no battery". Yes, it thinks the battery just isn't in the machine. And the last and worst things, no Eloquence and no Pronunciation Dictionary! Eloquence is just a want, but the Pronunciation dictionary is something I need for reasons I'm not posting here. All I'm saying is that the entries have to do with people, numbers, trust and names to remember. Even the Braille Sense Classic had a Pronunciation Dictionary! I already talked to my MCB person, and he said that I can buy that Braille Note Touch for after Perkins.

Re: BrailleSense Polaris Vs. BrailleNoteTouch

Of course you could do it. But it would require them to make mods for different types of tablets, unless they did it specifically for google branded tablets. And the display cells are still what would drive the price up, unless they wanted to use lower quality components like the more recent budget displays. You'd still be looking at at least 3-4000 likely, as opposed to 8.

Only, it would have to have to have some slight physical mods in order for it to be a snug fit, and an actual Android firmware with their keysoft sweet. As for the Touch Plus, all the issues described are virtually nonexistent on the Touch Plus. HUmanware is really aiming for mainstream compatibility with this thing, and with the hardware and software, it's actually working.

But I think if I could find a good deal for the Polaris or some way to trade, I would seriously consider it. The original Braile Sense units were fantastic and I went with this one out of loyalty, but it seems Hims dropped the ball on this one, not the least problem of which is that they use old software on old hardware where the touch is aiming to be a legit tablet. I would also be curious to know people's experience with the tuch as well. The only thing that would keep me from going for it is the size. I love the form factor of the Polaris.

BrailleSense Polaris Vs. BrailleNoteTouch

So, I'm wondering if only I seem to have issues when it comes to Polaris. Let's start out with the fact that the machine loses battery extremely fast. Fast as in, I'm in my first class (08:15) and the battery is at 56%. I am in my third class (9:50) and the battery is at 26%. All I have been using is a notepad  and a word processor. Granted, I have a loaner right now and the battery is getting old, but seriously? That fast of a battery drain? My second issue is the time needed to charge. I plug the unit in at 10% (21:50) and unplug it in the morning (7:20). The battery goes from 10 to 56%. What's strange is that this issue occurs every once in a while. The third problem with the unit I have is the editing of documents. Sometimes, when I spellcheck an essay, part of it gets scrambled, I mean words like I like Math could become limamamamamamamamakethimama. This is random and is impossible to predict, the most recent example was me spellchecking an imitation speech and the unit scrambling the last 14 lines to the point where nobody was able to decipher what the original message was, lol.My third issue is something like this: Open your word processor and type the following:I like MathPress enter. Most of the time, you'll be fine, sometimes, however, you'll have something that looks like this:I like MathThe new line gets created with the last word on the old one, which is annoying.I have an even better bug for you, open up your word processor and type in I like math again. Position your cursor on the first letter, I, and press enter. More often than not, at least on my unit, a new line above the current one you are on gets created... and the contents of the current line will disappear, leaving a blank line in it's place. What a joy, right? The final issue I have with the unit is that the internet drops at random times. I mean, the unit promptly disconnects from the internet and you can't reconnect to it until you reset the machine. This also is random and I can't deduce why it's happening.HIMS knows about the bugs, I have alerted them multiple times about their continuous existence, and yet they do nothing to fix the problems. So, the questions I have for y'all are this:1: If you have a BrailleNoteTouch, how much, if any of the above issues have you experienced?2: If you have a Polaris, how much of the mentioned issues have you experienced?3: Why would you recommend Polaris over Touch?4: Why would you do the same for Touch over Polaris?

This is random and is impossible to predict, the most recent example was me spellchecking an imitation speech and the unit scrambling the last 14 lines to the point where nobody was able to decipher what the original message was, lol.My third issue is something like this: Open your word processor and type thisI like MathPress enter. So, the questions I have for y'all are this:1: If you have a BrailleNoteTouch, how much, if any of the above issues have you experienced?2: If you have a Polaris, how much of the mentioned issues have you experienced?
