Re: How do I do audio ducking in reaper?

@2 Yup, this is how i did it. Remember the good old days of when I used Audacity and i used the normaliser to bring audio down, and it would just immediately go way down, no fade. lol

Re: How do I do audio ducking in reaper?

Can't say about video, audio ducking is technically called side chaining. You need ReaComp on the track you want to have ducked, and you will want to hit I to make the track 4 channels in instead of 2. Once that's done, go to the second track, this one is the modulator because it's modulating the compressor. Hit I on that one and go to sends, make sure to not just arrow down but alt down then down arrow to the first track and hit enter. You do it this way because if you just arrow to it, and your project had more than two tracks, you'd be creating a send to each one of those; which isn't what you want. Now Where it says something about send to track bla, 4 channels delete, hit app key on that and go to audio channels, then send to 3/4. This is the second set of inputs, which is what you want, because you don't want the audio to literally show up on the compressor track. Now you go back up to that and configure the compressor. Thresh about -30, probably no more than 4 on the ratio, attack and release you'll have to mess with until you find the way you like. No make up gain, and minimal RMS.

Re: controll ducking in reaper.

That depends on how you're doing it... if your fade up is too long, shorten the release time... and increase the attack time if your fade down is too fast. this is, of course, assuming you are using compression.

Re: Ducking in reaper

The routing is all you have to do, if you've included the sends in your routing... using routing is the only way to get this to work.

Re: Ducking in reaper

Hi! I use Ducking for my jingles and commercials in my work. So here's what i did once and than saved it as project:In a track I inserted the music and a compressor as effect, in the other I do my recording. The track with the music has to have 4 channels. Then you build a send from the voice track to the music track and send it to channels 1-2.Now open the compressor you have on your music track. There are many options and parameters; your have to set the compressor to have 4 ins and 2 outs. You have to set the compressor again so that the detector input must be on auxiliary L+R.In this way when the voice goes throwgh the compressor, the music goes down.So try this settings and if they works you can save it eather as project or a project templates. I've also set a reverb in an other track and then created an other two sends from the voice track to hte reverb.Hope this help; let me know please! Bye for now!

Ducking in reaper

I'm at my wits end... I have read the manual and looked at tutorials. But most of them are using the routing matrix. Does someone know how to do this side chaning for ducking using the routing dialog?
