At least half my friend's list would disappear.You know, once upon a time I really was proud of moderating this site... I told people about it... NO! NOt blind people; sighted people! I figured that if they ever decided they wanted to see the blind community in action for themselves they honestly could. If I were asked about it today, I honestly wouldn't even know where to begin how to explain half the behaviors I'm certain a fair amount of them would see as less than socially acceptible. Perhaps it's the fact that I grew up in mainstream schooling, that up until age 20 or there abouts I didn't really deal with blind people; no... I didn't ignore them either; I just didn't cross paths with many and didn't altogether seek them out to make myself feel better or in an attempt to find people I related to on a matter which, to me, does not deserve as much attention as it gets unless you're deliberately looking to stand out. This is not to say that blindness should be viewed as despicable or anything of the sort, but there's a difference between wanting to educate people on it and constantly acting it out.My question to every individual currently going around creating forums for this or that reason: why? Is it going to help us all in the end? Will it further your ability to better integrate into society? Can you honestly say that you're not simply creating a forum for the sake of fracturing what small communities are already in place? If sighted individual were to come here and read... How many topics are there on this subject alone already? Would you expect them to take you serious? Would you expect them to take you seriously if they were to find out that your forum was just a knockoff of something that's been around for almost 20 years? I don't know of a lot, hmm: Discus, and B2Evolution are the two that come to mind. B2Evolution is more of a CMS though., just with forum capabilities baked in. Showed PunBB to a few friends and their comments were well it's too plain or it's too basic. Again, I'd like to see better known forum software used. I'm just tired of the trend of PunBB/PanBB forums really. Just...try something else. Try SMF, Discourse, PHPBB 2 or 3, or even Tapatalk (as godawful as it is).Why would somebody outside of this community come to your forum when there's better known forums using bigger name softwares out there?
