Re: Gaming on the mac

@potterspotter13: Which reminds me, I need to probably do a phone activation on this virtual machine of windows 10. The SSD upgrade and copying of the virtual machine rendered me deactivated, and hardware id switch on the vmx didn't help matters. *spoiler alert: Yes, this is an upgrade key based off an oem license of windows 7 installed to a vm.

The ultimate guide for gaming on a Mac using a virtual machine

2017-01-30 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Articles Room : SLJ via Audiogames-reflector

The ultimate guide for gaming on a Mac using a virtual machine

Introduction.Do you have a Mac? Do you wanna play audiogames because you are a gamer? Well, here you have a guide which explains everything on how to set it all up using a virtual machine in VmWare Fusion. Everything is fully accessible and you don't need sighted assistance at all. Some things in this guide might seem quite overwhelming and complicated to do, but it's not as complicated as it sounds like. I'll do my best to write step by step what to do, so you can follow the guide. However, programs might change in the future so you can't follow those steps. I'll do my best to keep the guide updated.Everything in this guide has been tested using VmWare Fusion 8.53 and Windows 10 Pro, and this is all fully accessible and doable by blind people. What you need. You need the following:Around 30 gb of free space or more. An external harddrive can also be used, but it might run slow if it's not a SSD drive.Windows 10 on dvd or as an image .ISO file, and the product key.VmWare Fusion.NVDA.Sharpkeys which can be downloaded from the following link:https://sharpkeys.codeplex.com/Installing VmWare Fusion.Installing Fusion is very strait forward. This is a standard .dmg file which includes an installer. Just follow the standard installer, enter your password multiple times when prompted and the program is installed. When launching Fusion for the first time, you need to enter your licens. Enter your name and licens key, and the program is registered.Installing Windows. Now your copy of Fusion has been registered, unless your trying the demo version, you're ready to install Windows. If you have your copy of Windows as a disk image, I'll highly recommend you to put the image on the internal harddrive for faster installing. If the new machine dialog doesn't automatically come up, go into the File menu and choose new...Now, click continue and select the Windows dvd if that's what you have, or locate the image file using a standard open dialog. At the next window, make sure "Use easy install" is checked. Enter your account name.Warning: Do not enter a password. If you do that, you'll get into trouble logging in when the install is complete. If you wish to set a password you can do that later on.Enter your Windows product key, choose what language of Windows you wanna install and finally choose what version of Windows you wanna install if available, and click continue. At the next screen, you need to choose if you wanna share Windows with the folders on your Mac. I prefer to choose more isolated and configure those options later on. This gives you more control and is more secure. At the next screen, all your settings is being reviewed, and you can click customize settings if you wants to. I'll highly recommend you to leave the default settings as they are and change them later on. I've tried a few times when customizing the settings before the machine is installed, the installer does not start automatically and you're stuck. If you leave the settings as default and change them laer on, the automatic installer will start for sure. When you press "Finish," a save dialog comes up and you can choose where to save your virtual machine. The standard folder is a sub folder called Virtual machines in your documents folder, which can be changed later on if you wish. Don't forget to give your virtual machine a name, especially if you plan to have multiple virtual machines. As soon as you press "Save," the new virtual machine will start and the installer will start automatically.Warning: Do not suspend the machine, shut it down or change the view to full screen until the install is complete. If you do that, the installer might brake or you might loose keyboard focus which means you can't interact with the machine to get speech. The installer takes between 12 and 30 minutes depending on your machine. There is no way to tell if the installer is in progress. Thanks to Microsoft, there is no sound in Windows 10 telling when the system is starting or shutting down. But don't panic, thanks to Microsoft, there is a workaround for that. When you think the installer is complete, you need to do exactly the following steps to avoid messing things up and get some speech so we know what we are doing. I'll explain it all later on, but now we just need to get some speech, so we know Windows is alive and working. 1: Press command tab until you reach Finder.2: Hold down command and press tab until you reach VmWare Fusion and release the command key.3: Press command tab again until you reach Finder. Each time you press command tab without holding down the command key, you should now switch between Finder and VmWare Fusion, which is very important.4: When your focus is on Finder, turn off Voiceover.5: Press command tab once to switch to VmWare Fusion.6: Press command return, and then Narrator should start talking. If you now get speech, your Windows 10 has been in

[Audiogames-reflector] Tips for gaming on a Mac in VM Ware Fusion

2014-05-11 Thread AudioGames.net Forum — Articles Room: SLJ

Tips for gaming on a Mac in VM Ware Fusion

Introduction:This article is written to give some tips on how to make gaming on a virtual Windows pc the best experience ever. Some people say you cant play Windows games effectively on a virtual machine on a Mac, but I tell you this is not true. There are a few games where the virtual machine doesnt react fast enough, but I have played most audio games with success on a virtual machine, and I would like to share my experiences on how to do that.I assume you have installed a working Windows on a virtual machine on your Mac running Fusion and you know how to start and stop your virtual machine. Ill not go into details on how to do that, but might mention you need to do that to access some important settings in Fusion. If you have any comments, any tips, any problems by doing some of the stuff Im mentioning in the article, any typos, any grammatical stuff you want to have changed or anything else to say, then feel free to drop me a mail by clicking the mail link in this post or in my profile to get in touch with me. Please dont send me private messages using the forum. I always forget to check those, and the forum doesnt alert by a mail or any message when you get a new private message.Well, lets get started. Enjoy a pretty long article:Switching between Fusion and the other programs on your Mac:Yeah, you already know how to do this I know, but Ill mention this anyway, because there is something which might have pissed you off for a while which Ill try to explain:As you properly know, command tab switches between your open programs or applications. However, when switching from an application to Fusion and your virtual machine, you might experience some weird lag. This is normal. Dont panic and dont press any button for at leased 3 seconds or so, because thatll make the lag even more worse. Instead, just wait 3 seconds, and it should react normal again. In a virtual machine, the alt key is the option key, which means you have to press option tab to do alt tab. This might take some time to get used to, when command tab switches between the applications on your Mac, and option tab switches between the opened windows on your virtual machine. You already properly know that if youve installed your Windows, but just mentioning for others who dont know this.Ill always recommend you to turn off Voiceover when using a virtual machine. Please note that the command key is your Windows key in Fusion, so what happens when you do command f5 to turn off Voiceover? Voiceover will be turned off on your Mac, and youll open up the start menu in Windows, and get the focus away for whatever running game you might have in focus. So, for that reason, I sometimes first turn off Voiceover, and then switches to Fusion by pressing command tab to avoid this. However, that requires you fully understand how command tab works on the Mac, which Ill describe very shortly with an example. In Mac OSX, you can easily arrange in what order your applications are in. That means if you have iTunes, VLC player or whatever media player running in the background, you can kind of put this away, if safari and Fusion only is what you need to work with for now.So, to rearrange your apps you can do the following:1: Hold down the command key and press the tab key to safari, and then release the keys.2: Hold down the command key again, and press the tab key to Fusion, and then release the keys. Now, when you quickly press command tab, youll only switch between Safari and Fusion. Really handy trick if you wanna work with safari on your Mac, while doing other stuff on your virtual machine. this is also very handy if you wanna stop Voiceover before switching to Fusion. In this way, you know youll switch to Fusion when pressing command tab, instead of switching to whatever other random application.Full screen mode:Its always a good idea to run games and your virtual machine in general in full screen. Please note full screen reacts differently on different computers. If the machine doesnt run in full screen, you might experience focusing issues. For some reason, the full screen mode suddenly change how it reacts on my computer. That means when I switch back to Fusion after having worked with other programs on my Mac, my focus is not on the virtual machine but in the list of virtual machines. Then I choose single view instead. Others are experiencing that differently, so you might have to play around with this a bit. Then, suddenly, my Fusion reacts differently, and then I switch back to the full screen view again. You can choose between the different views by going to the menubar (VO m,) open up the view menu and either choose single window or full screen. There are other ways to do that as well, but mentioning all those ways might just end up in confusion. If you cant press VO m to open up the menubar in Fusion, you can press ctrl f2 or ctrl FN f2 instead, depending on your keyboard settings on your Mac. Full screen view
